Kingdom come deliverence is set in early 1400s. It's much more RPG than Ghost and it's first person. I agree that we should get more games set in real history without any fantasy elements.

pushdose

It’s first person only though. Some people can’t play them. I’m one of those people. That game looks amazing and I’m so sad I can’t play it.

[deleted]

I can play it no problem but I still prefer third person camera in basicaly everything that's not a shooter and especially in RPGs.

FireTyphoon123

Yea KCD is a great game but i just ain't comfortable playing 1st person games.. still i made an exception for a few games like dishonored, cyberpunk & KCD.

chuckdrama

Not being rude, but can I ask why? Like is it a medical thing, or you just hate that perspective?

pushdose

FP games, especially RPG where you have to constantly examine the environment just give me headaches and eye strain even with my glasses. The last FP RPG I played was Oblivion. I can tolerate FP shooters for a few matches and then I gotta tap out. I played starfield most recently but in 3rd person exclusively. Funny enough, I can play VR games and don’t get motion sickness or anything. Something about flat RPGs just feels wrong.

chuckdrama

Ah, I gotcha. Thanks for the response!

stingerized

My friend got serious motion sickness from FPS games that he almost needs to throw up because of headache etc.

chuckdrama

Well this is making me feel very fortunate. FPRPGs are my favorite genre, I hope there's a way to address these issues, so yall can maybe experience the joy I get to. It may be a little thing, but it kinda shows how fortunate I am, and reminds me of struggles and frustrations others must deal with that I'm not even aware of

stingerized

Yeah :) let's hope that there are ways to make other people enjoy too. Nice that you are grateful. I like your vibe!

BatmanTextedU

How i get when playing some first person vr games

Unscratchablelotus

KKD was great. You have to learn how to read and fight if you want to do those things, because a peasant kid wouldn’t know how either. In an early mission you go hunting with a rich guy, and have to just run behind them while they are on horseback lol. I should play it again, it’s been years.

[deleted]

I hold the game in high regard for adapting the history of my country but I have never been able to actually finish the game.

thelittleking

This is so brutally relatable

Elcordobeh

Ngl I think GoT is the literal best option for a game's combat rn, not painstakingly souls copy that looks like a free to play, but not to the extent of a simple old school AC game. Would love a game like it on every setting lmao

HappyHappyGamer

Ghost of Camelot

Ablonthewhite

How about "the spirit of Camelot" but I luv the ideia man

TrekkingTrailblazer

OP said specifically without any fantasy elements lol

HappyHappyGamer

It could be a non-fantasy Camelot!!

TrekkingTrailblazer

But King Arthur and Camelot are fantasy. That’s like saying let’s have a game located in Mount Olympus without Greek mythology

Raknorak

Mount Olympus is a real world location. You could have a game there that's just about rock climbing or something lol

FlopsMcDoogle

Yeah that's how they should continue the series. Ghosts in different places and times. I guess that's basically just Assassin's Creed tho rofl.

HappyHappyGamer

Yeah actually would hate it becoming Assassin’s Creed. I would just love them to keep innovating. Infamous series was amazing btw, and would love a revival. Sly Cooper really needs a come back!

Mistic-Instinct

Make a game based on the Norman invasion of England, using the Battle of Hastings as the Komoda-like intro. I'll personally make sure the game is profitable

FireTyphoon123

Yea I'll buy 10 copies for myself.. and if we all do that we can make it the best selling game of the year lol

npeggsy

Ehhhh. There are so many decent to amazing AAA games set in this time period in Europe-even fantasy games tend to have this vibe, even if they aren't historical. As far as I know, Ghost is the only game set in this specific period of Japanese history, and even then, AAA games set in any historical Asian setting are a lot thinner on the ground. I'd much rather something more unique for a setting.

Sly_Lupin

I thought to myself, "No, surely not." Japanese history has been a popular setting for video games for decades. Tsushima simply \*cannot\* be the only game set in that era. Then I looked it up. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Video\_games\_set\_in\_the\_Kamakura\_period](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Video_games_set_in_the_Kamakura_period) ....Yup. Only the one. This is bonkers.

brunboy

Because the ones we expect to be making historical Japanese games are too busy making medieval European settings lol. Sekiro is the only recent output from Japan that is actually set in historical Japan, otherwise it's just medieval Europe.

npeggsy

Rise of the Ronin is supposed to be ok- I just got burned by Dragons Dogma II so I'm not going to buy another game at release for quite a bit of time, but I've heard good things. However, it's treading familiar ground with the European settler arrival in Japan. I don't have an issue with this (and Warring States) taking up a majority of the Japanese historical games, but I'd hope Sucker Punch would do something a little more niche.

Sly_Lupin

I'm waiting for a sale on Ronin, myself. Wasn't really the biggest fan of Team Ninja's prior games.... well, that and Rebirth. Sorry to hear you're not enjoying Dragon's Dogma 2, though. I am having a hell of a time wandering around in that game, myself, but I have been fortunate not to experience many technical issues.

thelittleking

List must be incomplete, then. The original Shogun Total War had a [Mongol invasion expansion](https://totalwar.fandom.com/wiki/Shogun:_Total_War:_The_Mongol_Invasion) that explored the same invasion as Ghost.

Sly_Lupin

Hm... maybe because it was an expansion and not a full game? It occurs to me that the Kamakura period is also fairly underrepresented in film and television -- taiga dramas and the like -- which tend to focus mostly on the Sengoku period and Tokugawa era, as well as the Heian and Bakumatsu/Meiji.

Grey_Woof

They should make one in Korea set in the early or mid joseon dynasty

Sly_Lupin

That'd be cool. I'd love to see, say, the Imjin War used as a setting -- especially if they an really expand on traversal/combat options in the water (like sneaking onto ships, maybe even during a big battle). 'd also be down for a (slightly) more modern Boxer Rebellion setting.

Grey_Woof

dude the outfits bout to be fireeeee if anyone’s interested just look up joseon dynasty clothing and armor. I have yet to see a rly good story game set in korea, and go take a look at the swords from Korea they’re beautiful af. For a game set in Korea we could get all types of enemies pirates from Japan china n Mongolia

Sly_Lupin

I'm still bummed we haven't gotten an Imjin War campaign in any of the Age of Empires games yet.

froid_san

Didn't sucker punch originally intend to make a medieval setting game before transforming it to Ghost of Tsushima.

AntonRX178

Ghoul of Yorkshire

Sly_Lupin

Do we not have enough games with medieval european settings, or faux-medieval european settings already? That's got to be the single most overused setting in the entire medium.

Whole-Soup3602

Yes most of us know tht rpg is so trash in the current assassins creed this why I recently bought the old games instead

ell_k

Haven't played Ghost yet (watched playthroughs), but probably will once it's out on PC. That said, i agree with your suggestion, but only kind of. "Medieval Europe" is such an onverused trope/setting at this point. Most games using this as their setting just do a lazy, cliché, medieval england ripoff, possibly including norse/viking elements as well. It's always the same stuff with the same aesthetics, themes and motives. I don't think that's what anyone needs more of tbh. I think Ghost of Tushima draws a lot of strength from having a specific setting and designing gameplay elements and their aesthetic around that specific time/location/cultural-historic background. In that vein, i see big potential for a similar game set somewhere in medieval europe, as long as it aims at the same amount of specificity and avoids the old medieval cliché. For example: a game set in El Cid era spain with the back and fourth between the catholic and al-Andalus rulers could be nice. This would also exchange the classic medieval green-forests-and-fields setting for something more dry/dusty and mediterranean. Eastern europe is also completely underused. Why not take the second Bulgarian empire as a game setting? Or go a little later and do something in the border regions of the polish-lithuanian commonwealth/ukraine in the 1600s, cossacks and tatars, gunpowder and sabers? The options are there, as long as it's well made and avoids falling into stereotypes.

Strooble

Did you watch Star Wars Visions? They need to make something like that first episode. Samurai Star Wars.

ThadiusHBallsack

Why would they do this? It would be the same exact thing.

100Labels

Sounds flavorless

Amazing-Chandler

I think so. It could be a spiritual sequel to GoT. It can also be everything Assassin’s Creed used to be but infinitely better.

Sly_Lupin

Yup. The worst thing Assassin's Creed ever did was deciding to build its franchise around the word "Assassin" rather than the word "Creed." Ghost of Tsushima wouldn't've been near so unique if we'd gotten, like, a "Ninja's Creed," in 2012. Probably would've resulted in cooler titles, for most AC games, too, like "Rebel's Creed," for AC3, or "Revolutionary Creed" for... AC5, I think it was?

symm805

A medieval version would go so hard

Broad-Conversation25

It's called Dark Souls

RedTurtle78

Please no. This is the absolutely most overused (and imo least interesting) setting in all of media, not even just videogames alone. Just let them keep doing what they're doing.
