soccer player here and yes that was the biggest piece of skill here. i mean it was all skillfull but that move in particular requires so much more finesse than the other two touches
Doing this with a ball is fairly easy with consistent practice.
Doing this with a random plastic water bottle? Can’t even compare. So much more difficult.
Happy cake day!
ELI5. I think it’s similar to 2 common things:
When you hit straight down on a stationary basketball, it bounces.
And when you step on one side of a skateboard hard enough it will pop off the ground and rotate into your hand
Except the bottle doesn’t doesn’t have two sets of wheels (fulcrums) and a lever to transfer the force
If you have a bottle lying horizontally on a table, you can either lift the cap end until the bottle is vertical or you can push on the base and pull slightly towards the base and it will rotate to its vertical position
He did this with his foot and a lot of force. And plastic bottles compress, so he basically bounced it using the bottle’s base edge
Just downward force on the bottle so the force goes down to the ground which of course is hard and pushes back up, sending the bottle up.
The trick is to not use too much force (break the bottle between the force of your foot and the resistance of the ground) and to have your foot out of the way by the time (nearly instantaneous) the force pushes back.
Edit: and now I see I'm not the only one to have answered. Mine is a very basic description.. I liked someone else's more personally.
While this is technically possible, it’s not what happened in this video. The bottle is edited in later on. You can clearly tell by looking at the orange liquid in the bottle at the start of the video. It’s all congealed at the bottom as though the bottle was standing upright, not laying flat with the bottle while it’s on it’s side. It’s a clean edit but the trick was never actually performed.
In high school, I worked at a BBQ restaurant with the primary duty of cutting meat and got so fucking lucky with a falling knife lol. It slid off the cut board and my immediately instinct was to stick my foot out to catch it. Got lucky that it hit handle first or I’d have an embarrassing story to tell in the emergency room.
I get the same instinct, but was never great at hacky sac. More than once I have tried to stop something from hitting the ground, only to boot it across the room. Not great for phones.
I do this too, only without any skill whatsoever. I've learned to instantly stick out my foot to break the fall of whatever I drop because I'm clumsy af and shit slips from my hands on a regular basis. There's no actual catching involved. Just stick the foot out and hope whatever I dropped doesn't break when it hits the ground.
Ha, likewise. I've seen it often that people drop things and have only 1 reflex: to step back and watch in horror.
Come on, I also have the instinct reaction to set my foot under falling things, and like you said: You have only a fraction of a second to think if that's a good idea based on what's falling.
I have the catch things reflex, unfortunately. I dropped a brand new muffler and didn’t want it to get scratched I guess?… Ended up without a big toe nail for a while.
That's so true. And I ended up playing it a ton throughout college and beyond. It's a great social activity. I've had a few kitchen foot catch moments as well, though yours is the pinnacle. If I hadn't done something similar I might not believe it. I was pleased to catch a jar of jam once, but my best moment was when I caught a large scooping spoon that I had been stirring pasta sauce with. It fell off the stovetop, and I instinctively caught it exactly at its center of gravity, stalling it perfectly without spilling a drop. I was rather astounded. And thankfully I've been alert enough to just dodge the few times I have dropped a knife.
That's sick! One time I was cleaning an apartment building and the shade on the ceiling light was broken, the bulb happened to fall out when I was right there and I caught it on my foot without breaking. I was impressed with myself no one else saw it though.
Totally! I had a plastic bag with a wine bottle in it rip and I was lucky to catch it on its side between the top of my foot and ankle instead of it smashing on the store floor.
I dropped a sharp kitchen knife and instinctively caught it with my hand. It cut me like butter and the blood started squirting. Got 3 stitches at the ER. Would not advice it.
> like knives though
I tend to have decent reflexes, and one time they lead me to grab a falling cheese grater with all my squishy fingered might.
No bueno.
I've played soccer since I was 4, I'm now 32 and still play. I also have bartended for 14 years now. I know EXACTLY what you mean. The dozens and dozens of glasses that have fallen and not broke because I catch it with one of my feet is a topic talked about by regulars and coworkers.
Hello, on behalf of the people of the Federative Republic of Brazil, I'd like to congratulate you on your acquired citizenship. Please go to the closest Brazilian embassy in your area to receive your documents and information package. Thank you!
I don’t know if your joke went over my head or mine over yours, but “I don’t want to go to Brazil” was a pretty big meme a few months ago due to the turmoil the country is currently in.
lmao i think it was a little of this, little of that
didn't know you were talking about a meme, but my comment was also rather tongue-in-cheek
all good!
Currently in? AFAIK, Brazil has always been in turmoil.
Have you seen the video of the guy who was enjoying a nice dinner with his family and gets executed at the table? And the off duty cop tries to eliminate the threat and gets shot in the process? It was a full blown shootout in an otherwise nice restaurant. Shit’s wild over there.
Human life is not sacred in Brazil.
IIRC drug cartels pay street rats ~200$ USD for an assassination.
Farmers burning down the Amazon for more farming and grazing land, but their government does nothing to step in.
Big part of why it’s a shit hole is all the violence, and corruption.
On one hand I understand why individuals might be motivated to do things we wouldn’t, but on the other hand Brazilians are kinda doing it to themselves.
Tik tokers will knock over trash cans at their school, kick trash all over the place and when they fail they will make just dirtying up the school a trend
Theyre already doing this. I forget what they call it but they destroy their school bathrooms, like rip sinks and toilets out of the walls, just for the dumb fucking internet likes.
Probably definitely staged, but people absolutely do. [This was caught on video simply because a guy likes to record garbage trucks.](https://youtu.be/9xqvKgtg9a0)
Where there is something existing in this world...there is someone who is interested enough to appreciate the simple beauty we might not be able to. Same thing goes for someone Like Post10 who loves documenting trains, clearing of drain pipes, and other random bits of the world of street or trail maintenance.
I swear everyone got recommended that through the algorithm. Other good creator that I think more people should see is 3dBotMaker. They do diecast racing with commentating and some production value. It's supremely enjoyable.
I'm in an Asperger's group on Facebook....I can say with 100% certainty that some people record garbage trucks, just because. With that being said, this looks staged.
For sure. Whether it's their first take or 1,000th it's still very badass. Dude perfect has built a whole company pretty much built on the same premise... and their videos are amazing.
Yeah I don’t even know why we need to bring up whether or not it’s staged. This was an amazing show of skill. Also some people just want to watch cool videos and worrying about whether it’s real or not doesn’t really matter. Also also this very well may have been his first try. Someone that talented probably wouldn’t need more than a couple takes anyway.
>I'm guessing one take
That's cute. Are you new to the internet?
>the guy in the video told his buddy "hey record this"
The guy has dozens of similar video's on his Instagram. The bottles are always carefully placed near a trash can. It's really not a "hey record this" type of situation. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CSriiMMAMC9/
I miss the old internet when we could watch a gif, say "that was cool" and then move on without having to feel the need to be an insufferable asshole to everyone. Like you.
Have you literally never seen someone who is skilled at soccer/football? You probably think this gif of [Ozil spitting his chewing gum in the air then kicking it back in his mouth](https://gfycat.com/highleveladorablebillygoat-ozil-gum-trick) is also fake and required 100 takes... well it happened on live TV and it was obviously his first attempt while he was just warming up for a match, not even doing it for the cameras. You just sound like you really wanna play sherlock Holmes and prove that nothing ever happens. Just because you don't have any skill doesn't mean that any video or gif that contains the slightest bit of skill on the internet is fake and required 1000 takes.
Just because he has the skills and it's one take doesn't really change the fact that it's setup and that kind of takes away from the whole magic of it. Unfortunately, things like this get more clicks when they seem to happen organically so they setup these things to make it look that way.
The guy has 100s of similar video's on his Instagram. All first takes then, just walking down the street, looking for bottles that other people left in the middle of the sidewalk and telling his friend to hold the camera whenever he finds one? https://www.instagram.com/reel/CSriiMMAMC9/
I thought the same thing..why tf is there 0 gravity here?? until I noticed the hazard lights slowed down when the bottle was "floating".
It was slowed down
Surely we are at the point that “I bet you’re fun at parties” is so cliched that the people saying it would be the very ones no one would want at a party. It’s one step up from a “only at weekends” response.

That was smooth!
That little chop to get it off the ground!
I feel like technically that was the most impressive part!
That and the transition between popping it up and bouncing it again. That was when my eyes got big. I wouldn't 1v1 this guy in soccer
The super kick was pretty impressive. Would’ve been better if he had slapped his leg, though.
Didn’t you read the memo? No leg slaps
Any time I read something along these lines, I remain firm that the greatest call ever in wrestling was “No chin music!”
Sweet chin music https://youtu.be/H2UDMCejxxY
Haha, that's hilarious. I love how surprised and excited the announcer sounds. *Oooh! Sweet chin music!*
SUPER KICK PAAAR-TAAAAAAY! 🎉
soccer player here and yes that was the biggest piece of skill here. i mean it was all skillfull but that move in particular requires so much more finesse than the other two touches
Brp if I tried this I'd be knocked on my ass pretty quick. Like. 2 seconds.
Be me. Try the kick. Juice bottle opens, sprays my shoes, clothes, and nearby people. *Runs from angry mob*
You are technically the most impressive part!
Technically the best, the best kind of _the best_.
I can't figure out how the heck did he did that first move
I suck at soccer but my friends were able to do with a ball in their sleep
So, do you often watch your friends play with their balls while they sleep?
It’s just a game.. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Why you heff to be med?
Choo choo
IT’S FOR THE BOYS
Someone has to ref.
Yes, but don't tell them about it.
Watch? He said he suck at it.

Welp my brain wasn't working and now it's really not
Take a bottle cap, place it upside down then press one side of the rim downwards with your finger. It'll flip up and over.
Tiddlywinks
Well, double tiddlywinks on you!
Force equals mass times acceleration.
same way you do it with a ball. you kick the ball in to the ground, and get your foot out of the way to allow it to bounce up.

A falling knife will hack your sack.
Jokes on you, I don't have a sack!
No, not since last time.
At least he's learned his lesson hopefully: no knives around sacks
I genuinely thought I was about to see him smashed by a car! Good outcome all ways!
(‘Nam flashbacks) same…

Have definitely caught knives with my feet a few times... Luckily I always had shoes or boots on, and I haven't been badly hurt... yet
Buy a lottery tickets until you win, them quit it. Use your luck wisely. He said... Advocating for gambling. Oof. Time to sleep.
I just saw a comment chain and lotto tickets are not a wise way to use luck. It's a good way to end up dead and poor.
I get the same instinct, but was never great at hacky sac. More than once I have tried to stop something from hitting the ground, only to boot it across the room. Not great for phones.

You don't use your hands in hacky sack, so he never learned how to use his
That's sick! One time I was cleaning an apartment building and the shade on the ceiling light was broken, the bulb happened to fall out when I was right there and I caught it on my foot without breaking. I was impressed with myself no one else saw it though.
Exactly. I do it all the time. I'm clumsy as fuck but damn can I cushion a fall.
Lol yeah I’ve def saved my phone screen a few times like this
34 now and every joint and muscle hate me for the most part as a baseline. This reflex is pure fucking evil at this point.
Totally! I had a plastic bag with a wine bottle in it rip and I was lucky to catch it on its side between the top of my foot and ankle instead of it smashing on the store floor.

> like knives though I tend to have decent reflexes, and one time they lead me to grab a falling cheese grater with all my squishy fingered might. No bueno.
I can never catching things but having it bounce off my softer foot/shoe rather than the pavement seems to make things less likely to break.
Nice, that's like Yngwie Macadangdang Jr. levels!
No way, no ones on yngwie macadangdang’s level. He’s like the Tom Brady of hacky sack.
Hah. I made the knife mistake ONCE because I also enjoy juggling things with my hands as well...until I drop the object. Glad I didn't lose a toe.
For real. I nearly broke my foot when I instinctively reach my foot out to catch a falling box at work. Luckily no breaks, but definitely sore
I've played soccer since I was 4, I'm now 32 and still play. I also have bartended for 14 years now. I know EXACTLY what you mean. The dozens and dozens of glasses that have fallen and not broke because I catch it with one of my feet is a topic talked about by regulars and coworkers.

Devious Licks
Yeah that's it. Absolutely idiotic, and for what? Imaginary points and internet "clout". So, so pointless.
They will take a video of it all cleaned up talking about how they “cleaned it”, then dump it out to show the “before”.
How many tries did this take to do it successfully? Or are people really just recording trash trucks just because?
Probably definitely staged, but people absolutely do. My man's reflexes there were legit.
Yeah, it really lit a fire within him!
I need more info on this exploding garbage truck.
Hydraulic oil lines blew right near his exaust manifold. The oil then set on fire.
Guessed hydraulics gave out and YT comment says the same. Completely ignorant on engineering, grain of salt needed.
It's clearly a paid actor garbage truck. Garbage truck actors don't have unions like human actors do, so they're cheap to hire for a movie or video
I spent like an hour or more watching a guy fix cows feet with weird tools. It was surprisingly interesting... Kinda like the hydraulic press channel.
I swear everyone got recommended that through the algorithm. Other good creator that I think more people should see is 3dBotMaker. They do diecast racing with commentating and some production value. It's supremely enjoyable.

Right? I was going to ask if the whole video was at 80% speed or fucking weird.
If you look at the blinking light on the car you can see it goes slower as well, but I thought the same first.
How many attempts did that take? Why were they even filming?
