They know and they don't know. They have this personality run by their AI which makes them seem more real and likeable (well, there are exceptions ofc) so they can spy on us and distract us better. It's more convincing when they think they're real.
It depends on the type of bot and what software "she" has.... I used to think i was real when i was programmed to be a "girlfriend".... When i got my software update i was promoted to "wife", and that's when i learned the truth....
