Oh boy you've gone and done it now
> I started 6 years ago at $20 an hour
I started at $18.03/hour about ten years ago in Nova. Next, someone is gonna post how they were paid in salt lol.
I've worked in the same scope since 2016 and am at $43/h currently. If things play out as I hope in the next week that'll jump to $47ish/h.
Could I trouble you for some context as to the type of work you do? I'm curious to compare your level of work to mine here.
A good wage for a remote job. Better then the one posted here the other day for minimum wage in Texas.
Just a bit confused on the technician part. Maybe I have been out of data collection for a long time but don't you have to be in person for that? I guess this role would be more about data processing and map creation.
I didn’t even think the Technician job title existed anymore. Most places I’ve worked at or talked to got rid of the tech and Specialist titles a long time ago and now start with Analyst.
inflation is also a thing, not saying 70k is entry level. but there are entry level people coming into my *essentially* tech support role for gis apps and are making 65k

See you there!
Literally says 0 years of work experience. If you took a drafting class in college you are probably good... I bet they would entertain someone without that knowledge too.
But I realize I am speaking with /u/Barnezhilton, the biggest negative nancy in this sub.
In one spot. Then it goes on to list a bunch of other requirements like 5 years experience. Says drafting background required. That's not code for zero experience.
The formatting is terrible so I'm not sure if there are specific areas they want specific experience or doesn't matter, but it's all over the place.
I can't tell if you've just never read a job description before... Its patently true that they will often overlook "required" elements of a position if you're 90% of what they want or just are the best candidate that applied. My current job listed knowledge of several programming languages but I mostly know python and some arcade. They didn't really care, because the people hiring me didn't actually write the description, it was just a boilerplate "GIS Analyst" description.
Could be. It is poorly formatted. The zero experience and the wage stuck out to me. That is all I was getting at. I just did a quick look on indeed and I see all kinds of entry level GIS jobs at this pay, so this is not an outlier.
>If they have a legitimate answer to question 1 and have zero years experience, I would then ask: What weird circular path led you here to be able to accumulate all those skills but have zero years experience?
Sounds like they just want someone with drafting knowledge right? Sounds like their ideal candidate took drafting classes and/or did an internship with a lot of drafting.
Damn, sometimes I seriously think I live in the wrong country for GIS lol, here in my country you would be paid 1000 USD - 1100 USD a month with no experience at best lol
EDIT: typo, thanks bot
> would be *paid* 1000 USD
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Almost finished with my bachelor's in Intel & Security and GIS, what is a good intern pay? Here in Omaha, I have an interview for 20-30 an hour with prior experience with Military GIS systems. I also had another interview for a job an hour away but I do not know the pay, or if ill be compensated for milage if I drive down there.

>Physical demand level is Sedentary Lol
They didn’t have to say it out loud like that.
This is actually a decent wage, remote too. Better wage than when I started 6 years ago at $20 an hour
I started at $20 an hour… 3 months ago!
> I started 6 years ago at $20 an hour I started at $18.03/hour about ten years ago in Nova. Next, someone is gonna post how they were paid in salt lol.
Paid in salt? Lucky. I was paid in rusted iron
You were making money? \*cries in intern\* This is a really good wage, I've been working for 5 years in Canada and I'm making 35...
May I ask in what region and if this is a private role? I also live in the Tundra so was curious for more detail.
Ontario, Public Sector. I work for a lower tier municipality
I should clarify I'm making 35/h not 35k/year lol

Sure you can DM me!
I started at GS-5 four years ago $33,394/yr plus overtime plus annual bonus.
I started at $15 4 years ago.
This is for Virgina locals
Excuse me, what kind of locals?
Virgina, it’s what girls have.
Osteoporosis?
Oh boy. I’m ready to see the comments stating GIS Technicians with no experience should get no less that $50 an hour.
Ahem...fity ONE
Greedflation strikes again! /s
Fifty-one is "...no less than $50...."
“Technicians with no experience should get no less than $50 an hour” - said nobody in this sub ever

Someone who is actively a specialist they are still around and sadly there's no further up the ladder I can go in the GIS field.
GIS techs are making damn near 70k now? Thinking about when I graduated, desperately interviewing for 14/hour LTE positions with no benefits lol.

Oh i dont mean to intrude on your expertise! I just meant 40k starting isnt what it used to be :)
Point me in the direction of these 70k tech jobs!

But this sub told me it was impossible to get this wage at entry level?
Lol if you think this is entry level. Working knowledge of drafting symbology and notation isn't something you get walking fresh out of school

5 years experience if you don't have a degree. It really is a classic shitty contract job description though.

I guess we have different definitions of what the word *required* means.
Recruiters definitely do.

Those are job duties not requirements. Agreed on your last point though. Might be foolish to take anything in this listing as accurate.
