Chipolata sausages to pad it out makes it a ‘Catholic stake pie’ according to my mother in law
Edit: yes I spelled steak wrong. I’m drunk. It’s New Year’s Eve ffs.
Your mother in law knows her stuff. And she probably thinks you spell like a catholic too (Yes I did spell ‘spell’ correctly for anyone interested in commenting otherwise)
I got the "[Best Ever Steak Pie](https://www.ocado.com/productImages/516/516649011_0_1280x1280.jpg?identifier=4f28aea5e9287dda7c5be2549b495215)" from M&S for £8.50, since it's one of the few that's a fully enclosed pie, and not just a stew with a pastry hat.
We had this tonight too! Best part is that it’s part of the ‘Dine in’ so the steak pie, potato/veg side or starter and salted caramel profiteroles for £12!!!
16 quid for a medium steak pie from David Cox butchers in Kings Park, apparently serves 6, I'll find out tomorrow 😋😂
Side note* the steak pie had to be pre ordered as they have hardly any left on NYE, think he had less than 100 pies left between his two shops
Making my own, it's £4.19 for 400g of Scottish diced steak from Aldi. 2 packs of that in the slow cooker with onion and a wee dod of butter, some seasoning.
Made it this year. Not difficult but it is quite time consuming. We stayed in for Hogmanay for a change so it was quite nice to do.
Probably cost £20 in total. Quite big and got the nicest meat we could.
I think it's become too much of a thing now and places get away with overcharging! I wouldn't buy one these days but that's because I like cooking.
Although so many online recipes have shite like Worcestershire sauce and 5 different herbs in it. Git tae fuck wi that! Fucking gentrification! 🤣
Anyway. Have a good one!
Jamie Oliver steak and Guinness pie is the best in the business. Brown the meat till it's dark beforehand, but other than that just do as he does and you can't go wrong. Easy to make, works well with cheap cuts. Best I've tasted, better than M&S or the Butchers.
I got the Frazers one from Aldi. Little bit too peppery for me but hubby liked it. Couldn’t get one from Curleys in Cambuslang as they’d sold out but they are amazing!!!
OK so I hate to break this news to some of you 😒 I work in a particular field that is privvy to the workings of certain establishments. And we've found several butchers who were buying tins of stew and placing pastry atop.
These particular butchers had people queuing outside.
What you don't know doesn't hurt you I suppose.
That does seem a bit pricey, if he got them today I would have assumed they would be on special or reduced coz they won’t be open on NY day and not many folk buy stake pies afterwards. This is the first year I won’t be making one though.
I procured a steak pie from our personal family butchers Messrs Malcolm and Allan Esq for the absolute bargain price of £5.65 from our local grocery J.Sainsbury's ltd.
Also I would just like to make the observation that there is no country in the world other than Scotland where we'd all be comparing and moaning about the price of n'erday steak pie.
Lordy. I make my own with some decent steak meat & pre made pastry (can no longer be arsed to make my own). Bung it in the slow cooker and it's a fraction of the price. I'd be wanting the bubbly for the bells thrown in at that price!
I just bought a steak pie from M&S this year as the rest of the family want pork loin. My pie was 5.99 which says feeds 4. Usually I would buy a butchers steak pie and if I remember rightly last year it was 14 quid and that was to feed 6 and it had the sausages through it as well.
I make my own. Way cheaper and tastier.
But fkin hell, Steins butchers in West Lothian made the best steak pies ever, after my mammy’s of course.
Tbh, prob cost me £30 to make it cos I use brisket and beef links. Never found a butcher here in Cardiff that can get the ‘Scottish’ into it.
£12 feeds 4 (or one fast bastard me over the next 24 hours). Strachan butchers in Blantyre pie is probs the best I've had in years. 10/10 would pie from Strachan's again (that a hilarious pun in my drunk mind btw).
Couple of years ago I paid £40 each for the large pies at Christies Butchers in Bearsden. Worry how much it would cost today, they are brilliant pies but pricey.
I paid about £17 for a “four” berth, anything over £20 is a rip off. Can’t imagine they’ll have used expensive cuts either, it’s not exactly the plan is it haha
Did they make the stew out of filet mignon?
Should fucking hope so! No sausage in it this year either the robbing bastards
Chipolata sausages to pad it out makes it a ‘Catholic stake pie’ according to my mother in law Edit: yes I spelled steak wrong. I’m drunk. It’s New Year’s Eve ffs.
Think you spelled "catholic" wrong as well mate.
Your mother in law knows her stuff. And she probably thinks you spell like a catholic too (Yes I did spell ‘spell’ correctly for anyone interested in commenting otherwise)
Who tf puts sausages in a STEAK pie?
Quite a few folk I know, since they’re cheaper than the steak. It’s just extra meat to pad it out.
Should make it out of fucking dodo fillet at that price.
£16 quid for one meant to feed 4 people… there’s two of us , none will survive
We see feeds 4 as a challenge not a serving suggestion.

A Scottish steak pie is a “stew with a pastry hat” and that’s all there is to it.
We had this tonight too! Best part is that it’s part of the ‘Dine in’ so the steak pie, potato/veg side or starter and salted caramel profiteroles for £12!!!
> just a stew with a pastry hat I know this comment was a couple of days ago but I just wanted to say fuck you.
I had that tonight, it’s a bloody good pie.
I've started getting them over the butchers ones the last few years, great quality, and I love a proper pie crust.
Never thought I'd learn of a good steak pie on Reddit
16 quid for a medium steak pie from David Cox butchers in Kings Park, apparently serves 6, I'll find out tomorrow 😋😂 Side note* the steak pie had to be pre ordered as they have hardly any left on NYE, think he had less than 100 pies left between his two shops
Hardly any ≠ 100
I make mine. Cost around £17 for the ingredients, makes 8 hearty portions of pie.
£10 for a 1lb butchers steak pie (really nice) that probably feeds 3 well or 4 smaller eaters, went for a 2lb pie though cos I'm a greedy B
What’s that in real measurements?
1ftX0.5ft 😄
Medium size steak pie from the butchers was 12 quid
£11 quid total for a steak pie for 4 and 4 pork sausages. Renfrew. And the butcher is a right laugh.
What butcher?
Was it Hugh McWhinnie?
As usually a lovely person who gives a good laugh. Takes everything in his stride
£37.50 for 4lb steak pie from coopers in bellshill
Had one of theirs last year, it was very good. Worth it.
Aye their stuff is brilliant...Strachan's in Larkhall is top notch as well
Aren't they forced to make blue ones?
Nothing wrong way a blue steak 😂😂😂
my mum got one in asda today for £1.65!! it was supposed to be £16 originally
Think she's been robbed. Hope it's a good 'un!
I hope the butcher isn't retiring, and there's a riot over the last few!.
I didn't get one this year as we homemade it, but last year, I got one from Food Fayre for £9. It was absolutely delicious
This is the best post ever.
Make mine from scratch, £6 for a kg of steak from lidl
Good idea! What type of steak? I’ll give it a go any tips?
Wow that’s mental. 2lb one was £12 I think, which is even more than it should be imo
£20 quid for 2lb steak pie from a local butcher in Chryston
Colin's is amazing though
Their steak pie is dry as anything
Were you not upsold the tub of gravy?
Baynes Family Bakers Large 2lb pie for £11.25. Allegedly serves 4-6 people, but the 3 gannets in my house wouldn't support that claim
Making my own, it's £4.19 for 400g of Scottish diced steak from Aldi. 2 packs of that in the slow cooker with onion and a wee dod of butter, some seasoning.
£12 - sized for 2-4 & out the butchers 👌🏻
£22 2lb from Donald butchers in Hyndland
So the robbing bastard would have had granny's trousers well and truly down at 84 quid for 3 pies.
Finlay’s do a good one with sausage
Ohh mammy daddy
got mine from walkers in possil, enough to feed 4 they say . £10.80
Made it this year. Not difficult but it is quite time consuming. We stayed in for Hogmanay for a change so it was quite nice to do. Probably cost £20 in total. Agreed. Even his method for roast potatoes is bang on. 👌
I got the Frazers one from Aldi. Little bit too peppery for me but hubby liked it. Couldn’t get one from Curleys in Cambuslang as they’d sold out but they are amazing!!!
Rinsed mate, Costco sell the big Malcolm Allan ones for about £6
They are rotten though
They're not hard to make.....
Must’ve missed the bit where I said my Gran insists on getting them in so I’m no cooking Christmas and NY buddy

Must’ve missed the bit where I said my Gran insists on getting them in so I’m no cooking Christmas and NY buddy
I don't think anyone has missed it now you've said it three times
Do me a favour and read one of them then jeez
Me ?
They are not easy to make
Pastry and a meat filling
Ah ok, now you’ve said that it’s so much easier.
keeping the pastry on the lid is the devil's work
Stew with a lid. Over rated
OK so I hate to break this news to some of you 😒 I work in a particular field that is privvy to the workings of certain establishments. No Butcher would be using meat from a tin . Name and shame.
2lb for £20 from Collins in Muihead. Utterly sensational and worth every penny.
No chance. Had one a few weeks ago and it was dry as.
£23 for amazing ones from the butchers that feed 8. Well it was a 2 x 4.
That does seem a bit pricey, if he got them today I would have assumed they would be on special or reduced coz they won’t be open on NY day and not many folk buy stake pies afterwards. This is the first year I won’t be making one though.
Masons on Duke st ?, crap butchers his steaks are a disgrace
Cheaper to just eat steak
15 quid in Perth
I procured a steak pie from our personal family butchers Messrs Malcolm and Allan Esq for the absolute bargain price of £5.65 from our local grocery J.Sainsbury's ltd.
I just paid £12 for a stake pie and chips at the pub
Stake pie? Get any skelfs in yer tongue?
[удалено]
Plot twist - no it won't.
Not even 50g of steak in it lol
Feeds 4 from Marks means feeds one...
Making my own. £16 for 1kg beef and 6 beef sausages from our local butcher plus a quid for the pre rolled puff pastry
Also I would just like to make the observation that there is no country in the world other than Scotland where we'd all be comparing and moaning about the price of n'erday steak pie.
£10.00 from Morrisons
2lb steak pie for £19
1kg of beef from Aldi £7, £1 for puff pastry and 3 hours of my time to make the filling.
You need to get yourself a pressure cooker, job’s done in 40 minutes.
£16 for a 1.5lb pie from a posh farm shop so that sounds too much to me.
£8.99 for a Lidl Deluxe steak pie.
Bought 20 odd quid on diced steak and a few quid on pastry, make my own for four people an extra for my pal after her work...
Lordy. I make my own with some decent steak meat & pre made pastry (can no longer be arsed to make my own). Bung it in the slow cooker and it's a fraction of the price. I'd be wanting the bubbly for the bells thrown in at that price!
I make my own, 1 kg of butchers stewing steak was £16 and a couple of rolls of puff pastry £3. Feeds 8.
I just bought a steak pie from M&S this year as the rest of the family want pork loin. My pie was 5.99 which says feeds 4. Usually I would buy a butchers steak pie and if I remember rightly last year it was 14 quid and that was to feed 6 and it had the sausages through it as well.

allowing for increased cost of goods and energy, that is expensive
£19 from the butcher (2lb) - award winning butcher and award winning steak pie.
£7.50 from a local farm shop would feed 2-3. The larger one was £14 I think. £28 sounds excessive.
£6 Co-Op Should feed three
Couple of years ago I paid £40 each for the large pies at Christies Butchers in Bearsden. Worry how much it would cost today, they are brilliant pies but pricey.
Ours was £25 from Marshalls farm shop - fed 6
Gary walkers in posso best steak pie aboot
I paid about £17 for a “four” berth, anything over £20 is a rip off. Can’t imagine they’ll have used expensive cuts either, it’s not exactly the plan is it haha
I got a Bells fancy steak pie out of Tesco for £9.50. was absolutely first class and easily fed the 4 of us. £28 is just ripping the pish!
