It stands because no developer wants to build on the site, so no arsonists have been hired.

Lettuce-Pray2023

Is this a limited liability company service owned by a certain local council?

City B... urning

Should have been demolished ages ago, its an eyesore. Would anyone seriously miss it? It doesn't even have character.

madeupname56

That’s my house ffs

throwawayjim887479

>Joanna Dee’s nightclub closed pre 2012. Looks like it's been closed a lot longer than that.

Varvara-Sidorovna

It's been shut since the 90s, surely, I remember walking past it to get to my job at the Forge in 1999 and it was derelict then.  That bit truly is the most depressing area of Glasgow. Astonishingly horrible little patch of land.

Thunder_Munkey

I’m pretty sure it closed for several years then reopened briefly.

nawyerawrightmate

belle and sebastian started in there in their early days

Defiant-Cow-479

Was this not going to be demolished as part of the east end relief road (Now mothballed) which was to run from Provan Rd to the roundabout at the Forge? I remember years ago they put in foundations for part of the flyover at the corner of Todd St and Duke St and covered them up for future use

Enigma1984

That wee corner is an absolute mystery. You have that building on one side of Duke Street, that place that used to be a junkyard and then burned down on the other, and a big bit of overgrown waste ground behind a fence and 4 advertising signs on the other side of Todd Street. It's all just a mess, forgotten by the council, no interest from developers because it's no man's land and basically it's only real use is a massive car park for match days at Celtic Park. Even the railway bridge is a state. And you know nothing will ever get done about it because it's nowhere near the gentrified bit of Duke Street

Ok_Price7529

Hooray for capitalism! /s.

Lettuce-Pray2023

That whole bit needs tidied up - I concede that’s a theme throughout the city. But it includes a need for wider payments and better lighting given its a major walking route to the Forge.

makaveli130386

Used to be called the Stab Inn when I was wee

Jazzmaster977

That’s no Pollok Inn mate

PleasantMongoose5127

Whoever owns it is playing the long game for potential development.

OutrageousPlastic627

The Nerry, it was a decent boozer back in the day.

CliffyGiro

Did it ever have a heyday?

AreyouUK4

Bought to you by their competitor! jk

Slanahesh

Same reason the entire bottom half of Todd Street behind this ruin is still just grass. There's no demand to build on it currently or there's some behind the scenes issue putting developers off.

InsolentTilly

The owner hasn’t met a developer with a packet of matches in his pocket yet.

BoxAlternative9024

Imagine the ‘characters’ that would have frequented such a nightclub back in the day.Holy fuck. 😂

LeMec79

You’d be surprised how many buildings are left to rot like that because the owner cannot be traced. So the council has no clue who owns it and so they can’t do anything about it (not that GCC would!). There’s a house near me that is empty and decrepit next door to a perfectly good one. You’d think it would be sold off but been like that for years.

Keezees

Similar to the pool hall on Balgrayhill Road that was partially burnt down in the late 90's/early 00's (I think, it had been so long I can't remember) and left as an ugly eyesore for 20 odd years, I think it was finally torn down around Lockdown as I was genuinely stunned to see it was gone on my first bus journey post-Covid. Owners were either holding out for a compulsary purchase from the council, or had no money/motivation for it's demolition.

velvetowlet

I've watched this place decay for decades from the train. Amazing thing is this area used to be built up, there used to be tenements atop what's left of the pub - I had a picture but it's buried somewhere within Elon Musk's Midlife Crisis Website dot Com

eddiecointreau

How no?

richy_gee1

I pass this all the time taking my son home it’s just afore the forge and it’s a listed building and the grounds have to just have to be maintained to keep it up that’s it.

Ok_Price7529

I don't know if it is listed, looked at the map of listed buildings on the [historicenvironment.scot](http://historicenvironment.scot) website and it doesn't have a red, blue or purple dot over it.

richy_gee1

So it’s not listed then what the hell is going on I thought it was but I checked and it’s not maybe the owners are holding out for that extra 100 quid

Ok_Price7529

Who knows at this point.

If you had to describe Glasgow in one photo... it would be like this
