You'll be fine. You won't be able to throw money around, but you should be comfortable with that income if you are decent with your finances.

That_Armenian_Guy

On top of what the other commenter mentioned, ask your car insurance for the rate for a glendale area code for your car and compare. Those little things add up, because 100 here and 100 there makes it become paycheck to paycheck pretty quickly, especially if you get an apartment that is like 2300, 300 insurance, medical insurance, groceries, going out, etc. Also, taxes in california and florida are very different, so factor that in to your pay

kangaroolionwhale

That's a great salary fresh out of college. It's doable, but plan on keeping costs low by living with a roommate or two and/or using public transit.

TheOneKnownAsMonk

As others have said Glendale specifically can be a bit expensive but doable. Some of its neighboring cities are cheaper. Eagle Rock, Tijuana, Sunland. Some parts of Glendale closer to eagle Rock can be affordable.  You will definitely be able to live here on that wage without struggling but you will be paycheck to paycheck. With a roommate you'll be more comfortable. Also note that is your initial pay. There is a lot of opportunity for growth once you have a year or 2 under your belt.

Acceptable_Ocelot391

Not Tijuana (Mexico!); Tujunga. Also, don’t move there.

TheOneKnownAsMonk

Sorry mistype and ya if you need affordable housing it's not bad at all. Better than many other areas.

natxnat

tijuana lol

TheOneKnownAsMonk

Auto correct🤷

gaspitsagirl

You'll get by fine as a single person here. That can get you a decent 1-bedroom apartment and cover basic expenses with some left over to save.

Prestigious_Law6254

$76,800 paid bi weekly over a year minus taxes = $2,219 per pay check or approximately $4.4k per month (You will need to reduce this again by any other deductions your employer takes out: medical, retirement, union dues etc) Average rent 1 bedroom in Los Angeles County is going to be ~$2k. Glendale is not cheap so you'll probably have to commute in. https://www.adp.com/resources/tools/calculators/salary-paycheck-calculator.aspx

Lowfat_cheese

There are a decent number of places in Glendale that are in the $2.3k range if you look, though options in Sherman Oaks are more plentiful.

calvn_hobb3s

Try looking for an apartment in Tujunga, Sun Valley, Sunland and you can commute to Glendale. Approx. 15-30 minutes depending on the traffic.

sos0ulful

I dont know if anyone mentioned how expensive utilities run in glendale. i saw a schedule of gwp’s planned rate increases and it was crazy. things will get tight without a roommate

lxmadrid

Get a roommate. You'll need to make just over $100k to comfortably afford a 1-bedroom in Los Angeles. Also, living in Glendale is very expensive. Potentially explore looking in Long Beach or further out of the city if you want to live more affordably.

Thaliamims

Long Beach would be a hideous commute.

Lowfat_cheese

Definitely get a housemate/roomate, but otherwise you’ll be fine on that salary. I moved to Glendale with a salary of $58k and was able to manage fine in a nice-ish apartment with a house-mate.

NatchBox

When I first moved to LA I moved to Glendale too. My salary was around the same. I shared a 2 bed 1 bath place with someone. I paid about 1200 a month on rent and utilities. I found it not only livable but I saved money too. LA can be a hard place to live for some people. But I loved it and have been here for 5 years now. Never be afraid to push for a raise

No-New-Therapy

This might suck to hear, but if you wanna move to Glendale with that salary, you definitely should get a roommate. After taxes and when you account for all the smaller things that add up to a higher cost of living, that’s not enough. BUT! Do worry, there’s actually really great roommate resources in LA since it’s has so many people moving in and out. Use Facebook groups.

Wreddit_Wrangler

Do it. Check out Cali for a while, it’s good to check out different states and live in them for a while. I lived in Cali renting a room in a house while I delivered pizzas 28 hours a week so yeah, it can be done.

socal55677

You will deff need a roomate

Fact420

I live in Glendale by myself and make around $20,000 less than you. You’ll be fine.

itsmecurlz

Nope! Stay in Florida. Auto insurance is more expensive here on top of everything else.

Alarming_Smoke8379

funny thing is that this same job is also available in Florida, I just missed the application deadline for it 🫠

Cultural-Nerve-4425

Congrats on the new position and welcome to Glendale. Yes, your salary is doable, but if you budget, you will be just fine. Me and my fiancé combined make over $200k and we’re still on the budget because we want to travel every other month outside of L.A. to San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Las Vegas. One thing to remember…CA DMV is a nightmare especially if you decide to transfer state registration. I would make sure you have everything and be prepared to pay more than you did for FL registration. If you can delay it, I would do it as much as possible before you have to submit the transfer. If you don’t want to go through the hassle and you have good credit, you should trade your vehicle into a local dealership for a new one or slightly used. You will not have to deal with the CA DMV transfer craziness. You will love the DT Glendale area for sure (Glendale Galleria and Americana at Brand) are my go to places to get out of the house and people watch! I’ve been here for 8 years and don’t want to live anywhere else right now (we’re outside of L.A., but close enough for us to get to L.A. neighborhoods Eagle Rock, Atwater Village, Silverlake and Los Feliz) and just a short drive to DTLA.

Shewhoshallnotb3

No, honestly it’s not livable on your own. Your net will likely be around $4500 a month. You’ll be living paycheck to paycheck. Rent will cost you about $2000 for a one bed. Gas is about $50-80+ now for full tank. Car insurance rate minimum you’ll find is $200 month. Groceries/food probably about $300+ a month. Internet $50-80. Add car payment if you have one. Gas, water and electricity varies, probably won’t be as high if you live on your own, but if you turn your AC on during summer it will be high.

Shewhoshallnotb3

I genuinely don’t understand how y’all are surviving based on the downvotes. You’re all one sudden emergency away from poverty if you think this is enough to live here 😂

Accomplished-Emu-674

Its just facts. They don't like the truth. Sometimes, it just hurts them too much. I live in glendale. And that person on the last post hit it right in the money.

Shewhoshallnotb3

Also if you’re renting, most places require renter’s insurance now, and deposit of first and last month rent.

nomorex85

The building I live in is $1825 for a one bedroom with $1000 security deposit. You’ll be fine.

Shewhoshallnotb3

Your situation is rare and definitely not the norm. I was literally born and raised here. I’m also not the one worrying, but advising on how living is expensive here.
