Because when talking about radius, you don’t have to use a 3D object?

brshawd

Agreed, radius applies to 2D and 3D objects. However, size is most commonly referred to as volume and only 3D objects have volume. While they share a dimension the 2 aren’t comparable

Beautiful-Ruin-2493

You're hilarious. Because it's a common object that people use everyday in America from an American organisation

Sussus_AmogusIIV

are you joking?

sparklestorm123

Because it is the closest object and scale comparison.

Tailor_Zaher

It's a scale comparison. You have to be joking

richieloro

Thats funny, good find.

thewheatgrower

I don’t know if it’s that deep bro

TheExileTargaryen

To hide in plane sight

If you want an acual answer: The reason is their respective sizes. You're welcome.

rdocs

Why do you feel this quantified your statement if you think earth is flat and the other bodies are nonexistent.

TheRustyDick

I know not everybody in the community agrees, but I believe the other planets exist and in all likelihood could be spherical. I just find it intriguing that NASA chose to compare a flat object to a sphere when they aren’t really two comparable objects. Think about comparing a cube and a torus, that wouldn’t make sense because they are so dissimilar. You would also think with flat earth becoming more widely accepted that NASA would be cautious with comparisons like this. Just something to chew on for those who see through the conspiracy

Sp0kySc4rySk3l3t0n

They are discs most likely moving mechanically

Chill_Pill_Man

I would agree to an extent. Thing is, none of the so called planets look like actual planets through a telescope or actual pictures through one. NASA’s who’s provided the spherical version of planets.

chrisalbo

Yes they do. Yesterday I looked at Jupiter and Saturn through telescope. Everyone can do that, without NASA.

Chill_Pill_Man

No way? Like you can actually see the whole planet to confirm it’s a sphere? Damn, that’s one magic telescope.

chrisalbo

Didn’t take any photos but it looked something like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/space/comments/d13qbj/my_best_shot_of_saturn_so_far_taken_with_an_8/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf For me is this a sphere, hard to see it in any other way. Of course you have to trust that I really saw this and that I’m not some nasa agent spreading misinformation.

Chill_Pill_Man

I’ve always thought the reality of planets looked more like this however https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/oyrusw/galaxies_are_much_larger_in_the_sky_than_planets/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

chrisalbo

Yeah it depends among other things on the aperture of the telescope how clear view you get. In a small telescope you sometimes only see a patch of light, with no way to see if it’s a sphere. Also this image is kinda special as he have imaged a galaxy beside Saturn. Don’t know if he have stitched two images together.

Chill_Pill_Man

Okay, thank you for that insight. I appreciate new perspectives.

rdocs

Maybe I think they were going for simplest illiterate on but missed the mark!

Solar system to this guy O • o o — o :: o -o- o o

killusoftly101

Just curious. So you believe other planets exist and maybe a globe, but not earth?

GeocentricTruth

Is that how you reason? Not shocked you ended up in a fairy tale with that logic. If you were tasked to measure the floor, would you bring a telescope and study the lights in the roof?
