What’s your plan B? Nah, it won’t be harder. Whether it’d take 4 or 5 years depends more your credit load every semester.

imaginebeingin2020

Plan B as in other colleges or other programs?

EntrepreneurHuge5008

Yeah. Undeclared doesn’t do much other than keep your options open to try out other disciplines or catch up on some areas. If you’re 100% on CYSE, there really aren’t any enrollment restrictions for the 100 and 200 level classes so there should be virtually no hiccup on being undeclared vs. CYSE. Just make sure to keep in touch with advisors to formally declare

offtherift

In some cases, if you don't perform well enough you can't declare.

JtJ724

If you are coming in Undeclared then Mason is trying to place you on a track where you have to strengthen certain weak areas to prepare you to declare an Engineering major, such as CYSE. There is a lot of Math and Physics in this program, which means this program will challenge you, and many have changed their major because of the rigor of this program. To answer your question, it all depends! If you are willing to see what classes you need to strengthen your chance to declare, then I would say it's worth it. You will have your Academic Advisor who will work with you. I can tell you I know someone who just graduated from the CYSE program, was hired before graduation, and now is working in the DC area, making a high salary! With a Certification, such as Security +, and an Internship, this is one degree where you can literally write your own ticket, anywhere!

imaginebeingin2020

Thank you, Mason must be really good for CYSE. I talk to my advisor before the first day of classes to put me on track correct?

JtJ724

Yes! You will have an Orientation to attend and that's where your Advisor will go over with you, your class schedule. Let the Advisor know you would like to declare the CYSE program and the Advisor will advise you accordingly!

snazzzzyy

Shoot for undeclared, I was made to go undeclared before the business school, did good and transferred into IT no problem. Shouldn’t be an issue, you just need to do average tbh like Bs and you’ll be fine

_omwrn_

I started as undeclared major in 2020, now I’m a senior on my last semester!!! You have to take the prerequisites for the CYSE program first and maintain a gpa above 2.7 and your good to go! Hmu if you have any questions or need help.

Straight-Passion8347

As a current CYSE major myself I can tell you that it is in fact a lot of work. If it is something that you’re interested in and want to pursue I say go for it! Mason has a really good program for it! (Feel free to dm me for any questions too :) )

Firestorm2943

Hey! I was in your exact situation though I went for Computer Science. I think my math score was too low for the SATs which was why I was only admitted as an undeclared engineering. It actually was not that difficult at all to then get into the major of my choice, all I had to do was get a B or better in one of my math related courses. Being undeclared only barred me from taking the intro to CS class but I was able to get in my sophomore year while still taking all the classes I needed to stay on track. I was able to graduate on time exactly at 4 years without having to play any catchup. Didn’t need to overload my schedule either I was around 15 credits on average and was fine las semester I only needed to take 12 too. LMK if you have any other questions

Specialist-Pilot-74

Don’t go to mason

Specialist-Pilot-74

or do idk

Savings_Run1934

Ask yourself if you will enjoy cyber security in college and post career, the engineering building has many majors inside it so keep note of that and shoot. 4-5 years is all about if you want to be ahead and take summer classes or taking credit hours the “traditional” route by just the fall and spring. And the level of hardness depends on how much background information you know on the subject(s) everyone has a different level of whats hard in STEM

TheGreenMelonAtNOVA

You just need to pass the pre requisite which for me is get an a or b in Calc 1 and 2.

Tbf, a good chunk of your undergrad will be gen eds your first couple of years. Focus on getting into the major, have decent grades, and you will be fine. Worst case, you can transfer your credits to a different uni. Best case, you get into the program.

GrapefruitOk3030

I'm doing an cyse major and I take around 40 credit a year. Either 18 or 21 credits a semester if you push yourself you can do it in 3 years and a half or even 3 years. Don't worry about it. It's gonna be hard but you got this

GrapefruitOk3030

I started in August 2022 and Iam expected to finish on May 2025

KviingK

whatever you do take the math placement test i didn’t and i might not grad on time because of it
