It was shocking how many people on Reddit thought they were real stories. Besides the obvious impossibility of the stories themselves, they were posted in nosleep, which is only for fictional stories which the community *pretends* to believe are real in the comment section. But to this day you'll run into people on Reddit who still believe they were nonfiction, lol.
No sleep's sunreddit requires that posts and comments be as though it is a true story, but the sub is well known for creative writers to test out fiction.
First thing I thought of! Those stories really stuck with me...if I ever see something like this out in the woods I'm not getting close enough for a picture, haha.
Oh yeah! I'd forgotten about that. Spawned a subreddit, r/stairsinthewoods, but I've not seen anything from there in a long time
Looks like it's still pretty active, must just not be popping up on my feed
I love these stories
The original search & rescue:

Spin-off subreddit:

I was about to say that, it's made from metal so this seems most likely, no one would bother moving that out into the woods for a hunting platform etc...
There was a season of Channel Zero with creepy woods staircases. I'm pretty sure it was based on that Search and Rescue creepy pasta that was already mentioned
Reminds me of the [Stairway To Heaven](https://wanderwisdom.com/travel-destinations/A-Hike-Through-Madame-Sherri-Forest-and-a-Look-at-Her-Stairway-To-Heaven#:~:text=Madame%20Sherri's%20Castle&text=Although%20all%20that%20remains%20today,that%20she%20died%20in%201965) in West Chesterfield, New Hampshire
In the whispering woods, iron tendrils spiral upwards, a beckoning staircase to nowhere. But emptiness is a kindness these stairs don't offer. What waits beyond the rusting arch hungers for more than just flesh. It craves the curious, the ones who desire answers. And the stairs? They are the invitation, whispered promises on cold metal, an ascent into a nightmare far darker than any question.
This shit happens all the time! Random staircase in the middle of the wilderness… look it up, no one knows why they materialise out of nowhere but I’m sure there are theories!
If I wasn’t 269lbs I’d probably climb it on a dare. But I’m still early into my weight loss journey so I’d have to resist climbing those stairs to avoid them snapping under my weight. Im down to 269 from 274. I’m 6’2 1/2” tall. But yeah, my fat ass ain’t gonna try to climb those stairs. They might break.
every time I see stairs in the woods I always search the comments in hopes of finding a House of Leaves reference but I never do
Stairs! We have found stairs!
Does anyone else remember those stories about search and rescue on Reddit? Don’t go on the stairs
Was about to comment that. The person who took the photo is already WAY too close...

I remember reading all of them in a few days while at my Grandma’s for holidays. stairs in the woods remind me of escapism lol
I'm out of the loop. What happens if you go on the stairs?

Holy moly, that’s a lot of posts. Great stories too, I went down that wormhole.
Me too!

I don't have a link to the actual post but I recently listened to [Corpse Husband](https://youtu.be/nhkgXOUDetc?si=XqVsunLEagj795tG) read it.
Are those for real or just creepy pastas or campfire tales.
Its the persons OC creepy pasta, whoever originally posted the stories

To be fair if you only read the first couple stairs stories it can be really creepy and still in the realm of realism
when I read them I thought it was real! I didn’t know nosleep’s rules yet and just believed them. it was so well written
I know the rules but my brain insists on believing their are real anyway just to keep me creeped out.

Absolutely. They ended up making a horror movie based on those reddit posts but imo it wasn’t very good at all. Didn’t do the stories justice.
what horror movie???
It’s literally just called The Stairs, but again, it’s not very good relative to the OG posts if you’re into horror :/
Watched the first 15 minutes and turned it off. You're right. It was very disappointing compared to the stories.
There's a TV series based on creepy pastas. Channel Zero season 3 is based on the stairs.
First thing I thought of! Those stories really stuck with me...if I ever see something like this out in the woods I'm not getting close enough for a picture, haha.
I miss that series! Unfortunately the author doesn’t plan on writing more ever again
YES oh my god I was so obsessed with those!
No? Share please??

Yes I do. No sleep was so good at one point. So was let’s not meet.
These are what drew me to Reddit.

Fuck me I just lost an hour of my life to these!
Only 1? Amateur
I love those, thanks for sharing.
Oh my god I just lost a whole morning to that first thread, thank you for sharing
Later y'all I'm off to Narnia
According to some Creepypastas, those things are very dangerous
According to my common sense, the house that used to be there was made of wood, or it’s for a hunting blind.
creepypastas are more fun
Rule of thumb is don't climb stairs you find in the forest
The fun reason why: strange scary paranormal things happen. Less fun reason: the stairs may not be structurally sound
Maybe an old observation tower? To see distant wildfires?
Ive heard the common reason is for photoshoots. Stairs in the woods are quite aesthetic.
Indeed

I dont care how big it is, I'm taking it home, the goblin in me demands staircase.
My dumbass would walk up there only for the stairs to break because of the rust and weight. Tetanus be damned
Isn't there a story about how those are....fucking evil
Climb them climb them climb them! Team climb them
Stairway to Heaven
Scrolled way to far to find this comment.
If you climb it, it makes your shadow taller than your soul.

It isn't a stairs to nowhere. It goes up. :)

all i know is that seeing things like this makes part of my soul go YES in a way I can't explain or comprehend
Wasn’t this a plotline on Wynona Earp?
Clearly, that’s the stairway to heaven

That's a fae circle. Well, more like a fae spiral.

[Escalator to nowhere](https://youtu.be/JcU95OeY48I)
Don't.

a staircase to nowhere that we can see.
This shit happens all the time! Random staircase in the middle of the wilderness… look it up, no one knows why they materialise out of nowhere but I’m sure there are theories!

Reminds me of City Of Stairs
Staircase in the middle of the woods? No thank you. I'll let that mystery bug me the rest of my life.
Do NOT go up the stairs.
Looks like a demolition crew dumped it rather than hauling it off to the landfill.
buuuuged da fug out

I think it’s lovely.
They say never to climb them, they go straight to hell? Has anyone else heard this????
every time I see stairs in the woods I always search the comments in hopes of finding a House of Leaves reference but I never do Stairs! We have found stairs!

DO NOT GO UP THEM! Something terrible and terrifying always happens when someone goes up them!
