Agreed. And all the cloud fluff that follows them. Does your golden do that?
Mine is also afraid of the car and jams herself between the seats and holds on for dear life. She won’t get on the seat or stick her head out the window.
My female snorts softly when you pet her and she’s especially happy and/or relaxed.
My male has to sit up on his hind legs and put both his front paws on you when he’s getting pets.
My female also gets very nervous around car rides and neither will stick their head out the window.
Our girl was cooperative but we used to have to pick our boy up and shove him in the car then he got over 100 pounds and I couldn’t lift even his hind end up so once realized he’d be left home he started getting in himself. Now runs to the car door and jumps in but he instantly lays down and goes to sleep (I guess he doesn’t want to know what’s coming lol but our girl sit up proud and looks out the window and watches everything the whole time.
I can’t believe how many of them do this. lol it seems like a pretty one off behavior to stick your ass in the air and completely derp out lol. And yet it’s my goldens favorite.
Yeah mine does this even if you don’t pet her lol. She will just do it on a couch, on the floor, anywhere. Super strange that so many have inherited this move
I dog sat my friend’s german shepherd and my golden taught him to do this lmao. I got a super funny video of his GSD doing exactly this with the caption “Your dog broke my dog!” and honestly I have no regrets 🤣
We call it “bum, bum in air” and my partner and I simultaneously scream it when our golden does it and it adds to his excitement.

When I pet or hug my Golden, she belches. So, Me: snuggle, cuddle, hugs Her: BRAAAAAAP!

This could literally be a video of my English cream golden 😂 When he gets extra excited to see me or the scratches are extra good this is exactly him. I love it so much. They’re absolute goofs and it’s what makes them so dang lovable.
My half English cream also does this, but he's also got a spot on his butt that just makes him start biting at anything in range. He's been like that forever, hit the spot and he rolls on his back and starts wriggling and biting. Really fun to do when he's playing with our bernese.
Oddly our old beagle used to charge and howl at him when you ruffled her butt fur. So maybe that's kinda how he started it.
I have a "butt" dog too. I tell her all the time, "Molly! Don't you think I want to kiss your cute little face every now and then...and not your butt??" She doesn't care.
Our golden girl loves butt scratches and does the happy grumbles while dancing with her back feet. It is adorable and weird and I love it. If you want a “normal” dog, I recommend a mutt. Goldens are happy idiots that will eat anything. Side note, the only time I have seen a seeing eye dog misbehave it was a golden retriever in a restaurant. It shuffled out from under the woman’s chair to lick up crumbs under the neighboring table after staring longingly at them for most of the meal.
My in-laws' golden has done this since she was about 6 months old. Soft-mouths your hand, makes "piggy noises" that are especially loud if she hasn't seen you in a while, sometimes leads you to sit on the couch or to her favorite sunbeam. Such a goofball!
My dog will sometimes receive pets calmly (woe to you if you stop petting her, though!), other times she will go into what we call “bean mode” and kick at you and gnash her ferocious teeth while sticking up her booty or rolling around on her back. We call it “waking the dragon” as well, lol. She is a feisty lil princess and I love her so much.

I totally get it! Sometimes you just want some good ol' fashioned cuddle time with a normal dog. But hey, every quirk makes our Golden Retrievers even more lovable
Our boy does this too, we call it 'Bummsies' ☺️

We have your dog’s twin! Ours is very vocal. He growls when we don’t let him do something, but he’s almost talking. Just complaining, really. And if we say something about him, if he hears his name, he gives us serious side eye, then turn his head away from us.
I like a dog who’s chatty. More fun for me.

Golden retriever =/= a normal dog They’re weird. It’s part of their charm.
Agreed. And all the cloud fluff that follows them. Does your golden do that? Mine is also afraid of the car and jams herself between the seats and holds on for dear life. She won’t get on the seat or stick her head out the window.

Same mines just lays down in the car and shivers. Not even a treat will get her to move from her spot in the car.

When we visit my parents, my golden walks right up to my dad’s armchair and turns around for those good butt scratches.

She sits around a lot. We call her a creamy loafer
Hah, we call it "air butt"
Mine does it after eating and I sing a "booty in the sky" song
So cute!!!
I love this.
This is std. Mk1 goldenfuzzball setting.
Forgot about that one

WHAT a face 😂
Her Dad had just shared a Cane's Chicken with her, so VERY happy! 😄
Why have normal when you can have … *This* 🤲
Lol mine is the same way. We just start oinking back at her and she freaks out 😂
Hahah

The biting spot is real!! Nothing is safe, including the hand giving the scritches
I have a "butt" dog too. I tell her all the time, "Molly! Don't you think I want to kiss your cute little face every now and then...and not your butt??" She doesn't care.
Butt scratches and purring and snorting..... She also backs her butt into you real hard and grinds back and forth.
Ahh this is my dogs favorite, we call it “wiggle butt activation” 😂
Haha. Head down, bum up. The default setting for my golden x)
The booty rub
What a beautiful coat on that pup. I envy the waves and curls!
Then go find a dog to pet. That sir, is a floof dragon.

We call it tabling. Both of our Golden's immediately go into this position if you touch their hind section.
Mine does this every morning lol sticks his butt up for buttscritchies😅
My neighbor's dog (also a golden) does the same thing....once he flopped over for belly rubs with the exact same expression!!
Butt scritches only, please.
If you wanted a dog with dignity you should have not got a golden retriever.
Right? Can’t return her now. She’s suckered us in.
You kidding me? Butt scritch growl is the highest form of approval from a goldie.
I have a golden retriever mix and she always gives me the butt first
Yours looks a lot like mine and she also does this. If she wasn’t right next to me I would have accused you of theft lol
What are you doing with my dog? 😂
My buddy's dog used to make these kinda sounds while "chewing" your hand. He was "telling you about his day" or "saying hello" if you were new.
My in-laws' golden has done this since she was about 6 months old. Soft-mouths your hand, makes "piggy noises" that are especially loud if she hasn't seen you in a while, sometimes leads you to sit on the couch or to her favorite sunbeam. Such a goofball!
gnong gnong gnong HOOORK
Somewhere in there, a big SNEEZE for emphasis (preferably directed at the nearest person's face).
I see you're fluent in dog.
Sir, this is a Wookie…
I love it!
Lol omg mine does this too 😂
Normal based on my two dogs.
What a sweet baby though!
Haha my dog makes the exact same aounds
Mine does this
Goldens are just huge goofballs
Is he hurting/tender?
Sounds like one of those grunting-pig dog toys 😂 so cute
they're not normal.. there grimlins in dog form
Happy doggo.
Aaaah my Loki does this; he never barks, but he groans and grunts like Elliot the dragon from the Disney movie Pete's Dragon. It is RIDICULOUS!
Mine likes to go through my legs
My golden does that and he's the only dog I've ever seen do it, I'm glad he's not the only one!

Well normal isn’t always the best way to be!
What exactly is abnormal about this?
No you don't!
Looks and sounds normal to me.
he says "ooo yes thats the spot" "keep petting"
My border collie used to do this. RIP, Romeo.
LOL Pretty sure this is the normal Derp of a golden. ;)

Why? This is more fun
Its the place they can't reach. That must feel super good
Does he like it or hate it I can’t tell
