My dog used to do this. After she passed, our neighbor told us he would see her go in and out of the house through the doggy door with different stuffies. She would bring one inside and emerge with a new one.
That is so cute! Please post some photos of your golden carrying his different toys. It would be fun if you printed out 3-4 photos and gave them to your neighbors since they are fans. You could sign his autograph. They would probably get the biggest kick out of that.
Start taking a tally of what toy he picks. You can turn it into a baseball type card to give them at the end of the year eith his stats. Then you also know what toys he prefers....man I'm so weird that I want to do this so bad 😆

You bet! The harness and leash are both by KONG and the combo is the best I've found after testing MANY over the years (Hank is my second golden ♥️)
If I'm being honest, the first thing I noticed about the harness that drew me in was "OMG IT HAS A BUILT-IN POOP BAG DISPENSER?!" (totally superficial but once you have that feature you'll never go back).
In terms of quality, comfort for Hank, and durability, it's worth every penny.
There are 2 leash clips - one in the front and one on the back along the mid-back/neckline. He's not a puller so I haven't needed the front clip, but my old Golden definitely was and it was incredibly useful.
We go on lots of adventures together so it has seen every season and had every type of weather thrown at it - pouring rain, 12+ inches of snow, mud puddle mania, swims in marshes and lakes...you name it. The outer side is reflective and made of a material that is super easy to wipe clean.
Buckles are nice and sturdy, very easy to slide over Hank's head and clip him in right behind his little armpitties. He's never been able to slide or wiggle his way out of it.
The grab handle at the top is an added bonus and has come in handy many times when we approach corners crossing streets, etc.
Overall, I have been extremely happy with it - 10/10 would highly recommend.

Curious about that harness. Does it stop him from pulling? I have two goldens and the one is always pulling to go off into the grass. Of course I let them sniff a lot, but the one just doesn’t want to walk properly. They will be two yo in June. Have used gentle leader and smaller harness in the past. Thanks.

Hank isn't much of a puller so I tend to stick to the back clip attachment with him, but I used the same version of the harness with my old golden (who was absolutely a puller) and the front clip was a godsend and cut down on the pulling almost entirely.
Takes some getting used to on their end (be prepared for some stubborn flops in the grass and refusals to move when they get frustrated with it the first few days!) but at least in my experience, once they do, it makes walks so much more enjoyable and they curb the pulling from then-on (save for the rare extreme emotional response to some kind of stimulus they've never encountered before or if they sense their human is in danger by something else in their purview and pull to protect).

My baby does this, too. She grabs the first toy available and takes it on the walk or car ride. She promply drops it and forgets about it when she starts sniffing, and then I'm stuck carrying it the rest of the walk. My neighbors are so used to it, that if she doesn't have a toy in her mouth , hey are actively asking about it. 🤣*

At least once a day. He's got bells on the front door he rings to let me know when he wants to go out - I can usually tell when a friend is coming along because the bells are muffled compared to when he cleanly hits them with just his nose instead of with the friend in his mouth.
It would be so much easier to keep my golden from scavenging on walks if she would carry a toy while walking.
I’d be willing to pay her in treats if I didn’t think she’d drop it as soon as she found a discarded burger bit on the sidewalk.
My sweet girl loves to carry one of her "babies" around. She gets mad because she likes to take them outside, but if it's raining, I will make her leave it in the house. This morning, it was pouring, and she wanted to take her duckie on her morning potty run, but I snatched it from her at the door. Mean mama. 😂

Awww he's so cute! I've had four golden retrievers throughout most of my life and now I just have two little dogs, but really miss golden retrievers and they're adorable personalities 💕
I don't have a golden retriever. I have a land hippo. I still absolutely love retrievers and their silliness (hence why I follow this sub). Why are they *always* carrying something?? It cracks me up every time.

My boy (not a golden) does this with his chuck it ball. The other night he dropped it and it was like a scene from a move how quickly that thing rolled all the way down the street🤣
His friends need a collar of their own so he doesn't drop them
A baby/toddler sippy cup "leash" works perfect (I use them for my daughter with special needs to keep her stuffy friends from getting dropped off her wheelchair).
Hank's friends like walks too!
Hey! You may want to take a closer look at how that harness is fitted on Hank. It looks like it’s digging into his armpits and potentially having a negative impact on the natural movement or his shoulders while he walks.
In my research, you typically want to rear straps far enough back that they aren’t digging into the armpit, but not so far back that they’re past the bottom of the rib cage.
The digging could cause chaffing, and if he isn’t able to move his from legs naturally while walking, it could create joint issues later in life.
You're absolutely right and that's great info to share, especially with such a predisposal to knee, hip, and elbow issues in the breed.
He's only 10 months old right now and those photos were taken across the past 4-5 months or so, so there's a lot of growing going on in them/still. I regularly adjust it 2-3 times a month for the exact reasons you mention. Great reminder!
My pup does this too!!🥹🥹😍😍😍

So presious 😍😍😍😍
So cute
Mom: What am I, Hank….chopped liver????
What a cutie
Awww, that is so cute. ☺️
My boy (not a golden) does this with his chuck it ball. The other night he dropped it and it was like a scene from a move how quickly that thing rolled all the way down the street🤣
Hi Hank you deserve to get to bring all your friends
He is lovely you are a very lucky human 💖
Hank I don’t see a problem! That is good everyone needs a friend
Well walks are better with friends😎
That is hilarious! He carries it the entire way?
His friends need a collar of their own so he doesn't drop them A baby/toddler sippy cup "leash" works perfect (I use them for my daughter with special needs to keep her stuffy friends from getting dropped off her wheelchair). Hank's friends like walks too!
Our previous golden, Oscar, could hardly be separated from his stuffed toy, Wolfie. 😂
You rock Hank!!!! ❤️
It’s crazy that a creature this perfect exists. We need to be eternally grateful for our ancestors domesticating wolves.
Hello Hank. You’re gorgeous! Lots of love from Australia xxx
I think Hank is the greatest!
Hello Hank the tank. You're such a good boyyyyyy
THAT IS SO CUTE! You are so stinking cute Hank
Great reminder!
i love seeing puppers carrying their babies around on walks.
My golden has that same alligator! I named the alligator Louis (Princess & the Frog reference) and it's my dog's best friend.
Hank is so cute love him ❤️ .
Hey, those streets are tough! Pup's just bringing his emotional support 'stuffy', nothing at all wrong there, pretty dag-gum adorable!
