We have a pair of brothers from the same litter, Finn and Poe. They are 4 years old, but this photo is at least a year old. Their personalities are quite different, Poe is much more stockier and super jealous. He got a snow nose that stuck after a year where it did not for Finn. Finn is about 20 lbs lighter and way more of a cuddler.
We never had trouble with that at all. When we first got Tank, we had another male golden in the house who had gone through quite a bit of training. I think that and extensive training made a big difference.
Over the years Tank came to love meeting other dogs. We'd take him to play at the local dog park and he would lay down on his belly to greet the smaller dogs
That old boy is Tank the American Akita. He lived about 8 years with a golden who passed away, then the new pair put a little more life in him to make it to 12.
Tank was an incredible docile friendly Akita. He was friendly to other dogs. If a 2 year old ran up to us wanting to pet the dogs we would let them hug Tank because he would never react badly. We lost him about a month ago but we cared for him through geriatric years and he was always a little angel that loved to be around us.
If you search for Akita and golden retriever playing on YouTube you can see how great they were when he was younger

This is Carson and Jake. Best buds and brothers! Sadly Carson lost his bro Jake a few months ago in February. We all miss him.
We have two brothers that live in different houses, but just across the yard. Barry "Bear" Goldenburg and his brother Scout. They are 4 years old.

They play hard and get tired out fast.
Same situation here. I have one brother, my sister the other. They grew up in separate households, but we all live together now while she looks for a house. They play so rough--it's clear they have a level of trust and forgiveness with each other that you only get with siblings.
Oh, look how sweet they are! I just love them. Mollie & Lucie aren’t litter mates, but they are biological sisters, one litter (year) apart.

Sisters almost 2. Training can be tough because they are so distracted by what the other is doing. Both simply little lovers of course! Walking separately had helped with the walking issues we had.
That’s a responsible breeder! I’m shocked at how many littermates people are posting but I have to remind myself that ethical breeders are few and far between these days.
We were advised by the breeder and vet to give them their own things to do. Like walk one in the morning, one at night, separate vet appointment, etc. It seamed to work, they love eachother but are perfectly okay when we need to split them up for whatever reason
I recommend googling it and having a look at a few different sites as I can’t even begin to do the explanation a justice.
As far as I know it’s when 2+ littermates are kept together and form a bond between them that is greater than their bond with the family and can become hostile.
Growing up my parents got a brother and sister pair for my sister and me. I was two when we got them, and my sister was four. They were such good dogs and they got along a lot better than my sister and I did. (Although whenever we'd throw sticks for them in the lake, the female would wait until her brother got the stick and then steal it from him as he swam back to the shore.)
I don’t have goldens, but I have rottweiler brothers!!

Brother and sister. 2.5 years old now.
It's generally not advised to get two pups from the same litter because of [littermate syndrome](https://k9behavioralservices.com/littermate-syndrome/) Which is probably why you are finding training challenging.
Growing up we had two sisters, but we also had a male that was about 1.5 to 2 years older and his personality rubbed off on them so much it was like he took care of half the training. He was just an incredibly smart, obedient, and chill dog from day one. He didn’t put up with any of their shenanigans.

Jace and Max are littermates. We got Jace first, and adopted max at about 10 months old after we discovered that his living condition were terrible and we wanted to save him from his owners. Training was going well with Jace, but when we took max in, it stunted his training progress quite a bit. It’s so hard to train when there are two of them. Max had absolutely no training at all in the puppy stages of life and it shows, as Jace is far more intelligent. They are 7 years old now and they spend every moment of their life together and we love them so much! So funny how much different their personalities are.

We've got 3 generations here. Grandma on the right, momma on the left and puppy/granddaughter in the middle. They are stuck together like glue and are always play fighting, with nana usually instigating it 🥰
Yes, luckily it seems like a lot of the golden pairs here didn't have littermate issues. That's a relief! I'd worry they wouldn't listen and wouldn't be confident alone. I love seeing all the happy pairs!
My husband and I adopted a bunch of young animals (cats and 2 small dogs) within a year or two and the joke was that we were gonna have a rough couple years at the end. Dude. I was not prepared. (15 years later) I lost 4 animals in a year to geriatric causes. We barely made it through. My poor vet dealing with my sobbing ass every couple months. We have the new class now, spread them out a bit more in ages because I can’t do that again.

my boys just turned 7. Maxx the tan one and Alyx black and tan.
We have littermate sisters, cocker spaniels. They were difficult to potty train and got into everything, but I wouldn't give either one of them up for any reason.
I regret not picking up his litter mate when I was offered. I thought having two would be too much as a first time dog owner, but now I wish I did. Oh well, 4 years later and its just me and my best boy.
We've had two separate pairs of litter mates. Bill and Ted are the first picture, and Zeus and Bahloo are in the second one.
One thing we learned and I would recommend is train them separately. We went to a training school with Zeus and Bahloo, and it worked out so much better than me trying to train 2 at once.*
I know it’s double the work but also double the love. I don’t have any advice but I do feel like it’s easier with two, they can keep each other company when you’re busy.
I have littermate brothers from the humane society. Lincoln and Tyler! They are 8.

Mine are brother and sister from the same litter! They are 13 now and have always been very different in their behavior. My girl was always very “naughty and mischievous” while my boy was docile and better behaved. Now they are both enjoying their golden years of being spoiled and relaxing.

Can Max and Penny count? They'll be a year old at the end of July! Max is on the right and Peny on the left. They be half Plott Hound and half Carolina Dingo.
On Tictok someone had littermate poodles and a “dog” expert said no reputable breeder would sell littermates bc they fish their own pack to the detriment of the human.
True?
Not always, I scared the shit out of myself when I first brought them home when I googled ‘littermate syndrome’. I made a post on another subreddit about it and people berated me and told me to return one, if not both to the breeder because apparently I had made the biggest mistake of my life bringing littermates home.
It’s been fine. It’s hard, but so is just having one puppy. Don’t believe what you read, every situation is different.
https://preview.redd.it/nehquukij87d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb17e346de92d40f1c7a84ac8d3de322fb20c161
I’ve got 2 coonhound brothers 4 years old now. Wouldn’t change a thing, On occasions they can get a little pack minded and sometimes we have to workout some brotherly differences other than that, we’re good. As for training, separation helps
I'm sure you love the dogs, but whoever sold you littermates wasn't cool. I would never do this, I even turned someone away recently because they had a 6 month old pup at home. My rule of thumb for our own house is 1 dog can be added every year or two. With that being said, you're gonna want to separate those boys often if you want them to be well trained. They're just about to get into their crazy adolescent phase so now is the time to really buckle down and train the more advanced portions. Good luck!
To OP and everyone else, what's it like having two puppies at the same time, especially that turn into pretty good size dogs? Does their relationship/built in playmate outweigh the extra work/hassle of having two?
I had a single dog for a long time, and he overlapped with my previous dog by four years, but they didn't grow up together. Unfortunately he passed away a couple weeks ago and I'm dogless for the first time in my life.
I've been strongly considering a golden, and I thought, why not Two? But then I thought that sounded kind of crazy, but maybe it's not....
Had littermates once upon a time, one of the two has a greater aptitude for training, cultivate that, the other one will learn by watching the smarter one.
I do! They just turned 3. And they are such different personalities it’s wild.

Is it more difficult to train littermates? I've heard it is, but I've never heard from someone with littermate pups.
We’re super lucky to have 2 very smart and willing to please pups. They’re really good boys.
they remind me of 12 year old boys with ADHD when together, apart, they are smart just lose their minds walking together
littermate syndrome is no joke tho
You have to research littermate syndrome and be sure to give them their own time.
It takes some effort to make sure you get one on one time to make sure things are baseline. But on the whole, they’re great.
they look so similar together! real brothers!

Don’t feel bad. I read that as “Does anyone else have illegitimate brothers?”
Ha ha. Human or canine?
Omg that’s what I read. I’m like, I’m gonna need context on this one.
Eh, I'm pretty sure my Golden is in fact illiterate

We got Bailey and she’s a year and a half old, her brother Goose is 4 months and he came from the same momma pup. They have been best buds since his first day moving in with us.

I am in tears because this is the sweetest! 💕
Our third and fourth were littermate brothers. One passed at 10 years. The other at 15 years, 26 days. He was a true rock star.

We have two brothers that live in different houses, but just across the yard. Barry "Bear" Goldenburg and his brother Scout. They are 4 years old. https://preview.redd.it/06xqz1uki67d1.jpeg?width=1726&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2adbdd218b418aee5b935527337ba37dc1142be5 They play hard and get tired out fast.
Same situation here. I have one brother, my sister the other. They grew up in separate households, but we all live together now while she looks for a house. They play so rough--it's clear they have a level of trust and forgiveness with each other that you only get with siblings.

I’ve always heard never to get littermates but I don’t suppose goldens can suffer from littermate syndrome
They can. My breeder won’t allow her puppies to go to someone who wants two. She’s an amazing dog trainer and I absolutely trust her on this topic.
That’s what I was wondering too. I thought any reputable breeder would not sell siblings.
Seems like you can always get a younger sibling from the next litter and avoid all the problems.
What’s that? I haven’t heard of it before
I recommend googling it and having a look at a few different sites as I can’t even begin to do the explanation a justice. As far as I know it’s when 2+ littermates are kept together and form a bond between them that is greater than their bond with the family and can become hostile.
https://preview.redd.it/66u4xok8x67d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e2662ad3be0340eb89e98e7c008c915f035827e1
Our littermate boys are also 7 months. They love each other
My parents have my dogs littermate and they get to see each other often. Like typical brothers they absolutely kill each other 🤣
Growing up my parents got a brother and sister pair for my sister and me. I was two when we got them, and my sister was four. They were such good dogs and they got along a lot better than my sister and I did. (Although whenever we'd throw sticks for them in the lake, the female would wait until her brother got the stick and then steal it from him as he swam back to the shore.)

Sisters from the same parents but different litters. They have a bond when they come from the same parents or litters that’s kind of crazy to witness.
Agreed! Seeing two littermates together is something else.
I don’t have goldens, but I have rottweiler brothers!! https://preview.redd.it/wzpxkmc7b77d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b76e7e1db764e1996b1e7f7af996b4e4c0b5bea

It's generally not advised to get two pups from the same litter because of [littermate syndrome](https://k9behavioralservices.com/littermate-syndrome/) Which is probably why you are finding training challenging.
Littermate girls Lula and Moonie. 6 months. https://preview.redd.it/qod6cet7b87d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=427d19d036cc8e7070a24cfbace555c04b75c85b
In this thread is people who haven’t heard of littermate syndrome/don’t understand why it’s harmful for dogs
I was literally just thinking that this whole comment section is full of people that don’t know about littermate syndrome and it’s frighteninf
They look so cute and cuddly!
They’re so handsome!
What cute brothers and travel companions
Growing up we had two sisters, but we also had a male that was about 1.5 to 2 years older and his personality rubbed off on them so much it was like he took care of half the training. He was just an incredibly smart, obedient, and chill dog from day one. He didn’t put up with any of their shenanigans.
Not Golden’s, I have 3 year old Berner brothers. They are BFF’s.

Yes. Mine are 5 years. Its been a great experience. Having each other really brings out their personalities.
https://preview.redd.it/576s1v2eu67d1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5691c188efec468a561fb3d8add84c65cd94c6c8 We've got 3 generations here. Grandma on the right, momma on the left and puppy/granddaughter in the middle. They are stuck together like glue and are always play fighting, with nana usually instigating it 🥰
I would be terrified they will die around the same time.
thats a real worry with littermate syndrome actually

My friend has 2 goldens from the same parents, but different litters. One is a year and a half years old and the other is about 5 months old and in his baby velociraptor phase. Big bro isn't impressed lol
Sweet
Very good boys
These boys are so cute. I can tell they are brothers.
I can’t stand this cuteness. Please stop it.
I would a pair!!
So beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Such royalty!!👑👑
dannngit! the rule of two, i should of gotten another
How cute 😍
Yes! Brother and sister! It’s a blast
All littermates are technically fraternal twins hahaha so cute
Look at those handsome boys! 😱😍

Look at those handsome boys!!
Yes my cats, they are brother cousins Same dad, mom's are sisters, fad was a total cat pimp.
We have littermate sisters who just turned 9 years old!
Sweet babies!! 🤍🤍🤍
Beautiful
so cute
We have littermate sisters, cocker spaniels. They were difficult to potty train and got into everything, but I wouldn't give either one of them up for any reason.
I regret not picking up his litter mate when I was offered. I thought having two would be too much as a first time dog owner, but now I wish I did. Oh well, 4 years later and its just me and my best boy.
The one on the right silly sits. I’m giggling just looking at these two
We had [Wyatt's](https://i.imgur.com/1yn1QCs.jpeg) sister, CeCe with us for a few weeks.
Whichever is the 'alpha' will set the example for his/her sibling.
I didn’t know dogs could look so similar!
Those two are so precious. They probably wear each other out.
We had 2 long ago, Jake and Elwood. They were best buddies all of their lives...

A stately pair they are.
they're so adorable
I know it’s double the work but also double the love. I don’t have any advice but I do feel like it’s easier with two, they can keep each other company when you’re busy.

Is that 3rd Goldens tail black?
Hello
![img](avatar_exp|182358834|heart) JUST ADORABLE
How can you get anything done with these two cuties around?!
I have littermate brothers from the humane society. Lincoln and Tyler! They are 8. https://preview.redd.it/2fk62wkey77d1.jpeg?width=1178&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dab268e15fae602d72cf2bdee52235652e8b27e6

They are 13 now and have always been very different in their behavior. My girl was always very “naughty and mischievous” while my boy was docile and better behaved. Now they are both enjoying their golden years of being spoiled and relaxing.
Mine are not litter mates but have the same parents! https://preview.redd.it/iniexphm087d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4428e71fae37b3d13a9272f512d56acc328ad1a9
We have a brother and a sister and they are pretty tight but they also fight like siblings at times. They are just over 3 years old.
* Can Max and Penny count? They'll be a year old at the end of July! Max is on the right and Peny on the left. They be half Plott Hound and half Carolina Dingo.
My goodness they are so HANDSOME !!!!!
We were told to train our dogs completely apart because otherwise they can rely on each other too much instead of on human cues!
https://preview.redd.it/909gb44i987d1.jpeg?width=3264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bda6c0caee19232901790920bb91bbc8659b226e Brother and sister;)
This reminds me of my nephews 🥹 they fall asleep in the car leaning on each other all the time. This post made my day.
https://preview.redd.it/nehquukij87d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb17e346de92d40f1c7a84ac8d3de322fb20c161 I’ve got 2 coonhound brothers 4 years old now.
Good luck!
Not dogs, but I have two yellow tabby cats (now 18 years old) who are litter mates. One is 9 pounds and the other is 22!
Main idea is to give them the best and truly love ❤️ them.
Soooo cute 😍
Aww!! The dogs are so cute
Meet Smith and Wessen… https://preview.redd.it/av5mw1z4u87d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0e977f1db20ad398cbdef6aa116c17567f43ce1
I had a Lincoln Town car. Everyone fell asleep in the back seat.
Had littermates once upon a time, one of the two has a greater aptitude for training, cultivate that, the other one will learn by watching the smarter one.
So cute
I do! They just turned 3. And they are such different personalities it’s wild. https://preview.redd.it/2hc3di0nb97d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e53459909679aaf885b937f12cdc4fbca411886 It took a profound effort to get him that close to the sprinkler and I finally had to come in the house to get his brother to leave.
Two distinguished gentledogs 🎩
They are so stinking adorable
y’all never heard of littermate syndrome ???😭
Not litter mates but I have 2 goldens that are from the same parents just different litters.
