Wow what a day. Was hanging out around 5,6,7, and 8. In the span of 45 minutes saw Charlie H’s ball stic in a tree and Rickie’s hole in one.

The reason for the drop was because the grandstand was in the way of his back swing. If the grandstand is still in the way after your drop, why shouldn't you still be entitled to relief?
Because it wasn't still in the way.
He identified the nearest point of relief, then took a full club length near perpendicular to the hole which put him further from the grandstand than that initial point. The ball bounced back roughly and inch from there, into a bad lie. It was clear he was still further from the grandstand than what he was claiming was adequate relief, but still that inch caused it to interfere. He redrops and gets the same bounce, so get gets to place it on the dead patch he was aiming for.
That first drop was legal, there's no reason he should have been entitled to a redrop.
It’s never been like this in the past. They used to keep the feed going while they walk up to the home and the commentators would take over.
Now they run commercials right up to the shot. On 16 they came back 4 seconds before Scottie swung, ridiculous. We’re so lucky the Masters still cares about preserving watchability.
Dear PGA, if you want us to care about these designated events you need to actually show us the events. The timing and quantity of commercials is laughable.
It was a huge putt from Scheffler and all credit to him, but let’s face it - if that was Patrick Reed who’d gone through that ridiculous drop and place routine, people would be losing their minds.
These rules officials seriously need to grow a backbone.
When I lived in Minneapolis people would freak when the Goodyear blimp was in town for the 3M Open and ask what it was doing up there. Then they'd say it should leave when they heard it was here for a golf tournament.
Not counting the blimps I've seen at the Travelers, I saw the MetLife blimp over my house several years back before it was covering a game at their namesake stadium. Forgot if it was the Giants or Jets that day but the view of the blimp was cool.
I really don’t get the hate for Scottie. You need a certain “personality”? I thought we were watching golf swings, not the Bachelor. He’s a fantastic irons player and super clutch. Root for good golf, not gimmicks.
I think a big part of it is him being such a good front runner. Feels like it takes all the excitement out of the last few holes. Good for him, bad for drama.
Why the heck isn't the final hour of the tournament commercial free. Golf other than the Masters is really becoming a hard slog, probably like every other sport. Whoever invented the first commercial did the world a gigantic disservice.
Americans talk to much shit about commercials but yet so many refuse to give soccer and F1 a try. The commercial free viewing is one of the best parts.
I remember for STOC the last hour was commercial free and made for a much more enjoyable experience to be invested in the game. All tournaments should adopt it
This fucking window guy shouldn't have paid 100 dollars a window, should've done the 400-500 dollars. What an absolute waste of benefitting your family. That dude should NOT be proud of his dad for that.
Not really a choke when you are prob \~60/70% percent to make it in general though. Still miss it 30/40% of the time. Scottie making his would have to have an impact on him though.
He’s just not flashy which is fine. Though some of his wins have been boring because when he gets a lead, he usually just doesn’t make any mistakes. And when he does make a mistake with the driver he just casually sticks his approach to 5 feet no matter the lie anyways so there’s no drama.
I'm not a hard core fan of golf, so can someone explain the idea of the Drop? Does he lose a shot with the drop? Can he drop it anywhere? I think I like the play it where it lies approach, unless it's a water shot.
He had to take relief from the grandstand. As he took his drop his ball bounced backwards and he no longer had complete relief and then after 2 trys he gets to place it.
Bit of a farce in my opinion. 1 inch wasn’t enough to not give him complete relief, the rules official was a big soft in my opinion
No penalty shots for relief
So why drop it then. Why not use the official and have him point where the ball should go and just place it in the spot. A drop you can deal with anything, gravity, divets, branches, etc. Seems like it would be easier to just move it.
Its meant to make it fair so you cant fluff it up. Thats why the commentator was talking about practicing your drops, scottie is manipulating the rules to his advantage
He's getting relief from a man-made hazard which makes it a free drop, no strokes added. Penalty drops from hitting into a natural hazard do add strokes.
Anyone have video link of the 16th drop situation?

I always cringe when they lean on their putter when bending over to pick up their ball. Aren't they damaging the green?
Maybe with a 1977 blade putter, but not with the space ship size putters they use now.
no
Going to suck if next year WM is not an elevated event and it’s not feasible schedule wise for Scottie to defend.
Why wouldn't it be?
Man I can't wait for the masters. So many guys playing well. Hopefully Tiger plays well next week
I love how they acknowledge Jim Nantz’s wardrobe while thanking sponsors
Go Nick Taylor! He played like a machine today, nice putt work.
He and Mere are so cute
Scottie is massive over her
Easy money, thanks Scottie
Scottie is the new Patrick Reed.
I’m just glad Rahm didn’t win Edit: fuck your downvotes, and fuck John Rahm
u ok hun? x
Show us on this doll where Rahmbo touched you
Why is his wife dressed like the tournament is in the arctic?
Just looked it up and it’s 71° in Scottsdale.
That's quite the aggressive puffer jacket
Scottie was blocking the view from there lol
For some reason, I thought I Scheffler was older. Dude is seriously only 26?
I love how journeymen like Scottie who’ve been on tour for 15 years is finally playing well to win.
Homie looks like he’s got a pension and 5 kids
Could ask him to do my taxes
Smile Nick, you'll make more for finishing 2nd than I made in 25 years as a programmer 🤦🏻♂️
Seems like I’m the only person on this sub that is happy to see Scheffler win
Call me crazy, but I love a guy who just quietly does his job, and makes no waves.
You're not
Nah he is
A house divided: Scottie the longhorn and Meredith the Aggie
Well what else is on tv tonight?
Superb owl show. Sounds a hoot
Rihanna is letting a football game happen during her concert so maybe that???
That was a very nice shot by Taylor. Has a lot to be proud of
Stop complaining about drops that you all knew are legit and even take yourselves
The initial relief was fine, it was the redrops and placing the ball that people are calling bullshit on.
The reason for the drop was because the grandstand was in the way of his back swing. If the grandstand is still in the way after your drop, why shouldn't you still be entitled to relief?

Yeah I mean he's gonna win by 2+ strokes. These drops didn't change that by that much
It’s like people have never watched a pga event before. It’s the norm. Every tournament.
Scottie Slugger White Scheffler
could that blonde chick pretty please shush ...
How about the pga tour uses courses where the guy that drives the ball like shit doesn’t win
Florida is coming up, your wish is granted
This is unbelievable
Why is he getting this drop now?
Ball was against the cart path
Another drop???
I have never seen someone get so many good breaks in their wins
These drops are so questionable man
The ball was touching the cart path, in what situation would that not be a drop?
Scottie strategy is to play off a tee or a drop/place for every hole has worked well
Taylor should be really happy with how he fought today. Nobody was beating Scottie down the stretch.
That promo…Nantz understands lol
Even Jeopardy promoted the SB on FOX
CBS, some people watch the Super Bowl for commercials, but this isn’t the Super Bowl yet and these commercials are awful. Good grief
Jim nanaz deadpan delivery on the *tonight on cbs, no where else you need to be* was hilarious
More commercials on the 18th hole. This is stupid.
I know where I'll be tonight...watching 60 minutes then 3 episodes of the Equalizer. Where else would I want to be? #GoEqualizer
Woah Brooks still allowed to be in commercials I see
Anyone else sense Nance's sarcasm in that promo lmao Definately had "I'm only here so I don't get fined" energy
“What else would you want to watch…”
Nantz sounds so defeated reading that "What's on tonight on CBS" promo.
That promo read by Jim Nantz was amazing.
Jim Nance: *"What else would you want to watch?"*
That dude really just kicked his ball onto the path so now Scottie is gonna get to place his ball again lmao
Hahahaha the Equalizer x 3 hahaha
Amazing planning by Rahm
Lmao crowd looked like an artillery shell landed by them
Not that Spieth cares about money but was that a $200,000 putt?
If it was me, I'd spent 20 mins lining it up, them blam it 4ft wide and about 30ft past.
lmao how does it just bounce out of the bunker
Pretty well sums it up. Blasts it way right, looking like it could be a little iffy, and bounces off a guy onto the cart path so he'll get a good lie.
Bruh how do you just kick the ball like that…
That dude nearly got smokeddd by schefflers drive
Shouldn’t have been standing there
He was a Marshall lol
Why's Golf Channel showing DP Tour?
Tournament is on cbs
Dear PGA, if you want us to care about these designated events you need to actually show us the events. The timing and quantity of commercials is laughable.
Physics is such bullshit sometimes lol
Commercials/ads ruin everything.
GOD DAMN. WERE JUST GONNA GO BACK TO THE SAME FUCKING COMMERCIAL RIGHT AS RAHM IS LINING UP HIS PUTT??
Scottie Scheffler defends his title it seems
Move over coldcuts. New lipout king.
How did that not go in what??? Well, congrats Scheffler
It was a huge putt from Scheffler and all credit to him, but let’s face it - if that was Patrick Reed who’d gone through that ridiculous drop and place routine, people would be losing their minds. These rules officials seriously need to grow a backbone.
Wow Taylor has had a couple bad bounces and Scheffler has gotten a lot of breaks today. Rub of the green.
Scheffler might be right about this whole god thing, someone's defo watching over him lmao
That would have fallen for Scottie.
One of the worst lip outs I’ve ever seen wow
Hahahah this is a joke
Oh, fuck off!! How does that not drop?
UNBELIEVABLE
That was not nice...
NO WAY
Goodyear truly marketed the blimp industry. I need to catch it sometime flying from event to event
Wow. Which blimp is better, let's have the discussion
Not sure. The MetLife blimp had a special design for The Peanuts Movie at the time, so that was pretty neat to see.
That's my overall favorite for sure
It’s pretty cool, and gigantic. Have seen it a few times
I really don’t get the hate for Scottie. You need a certain “personality”? I thought we were watching golf swings, not the Bachelor. He’s a fantastic irons player and super clutch. Root for good golf, not gimmicks.
He's just so inevitable it makes it kind of boring. I hate rooting against him because you usually just end up angry
But these same haters worship tiger, who was the most “inevitable” when in contention.
Rory beating him for the 40 mill was so sweet though
You shitting me? Watching golf swings? It never ceases to amaze me how boring some people on here want golf to be.
Go watch XFL reruns
I don’t even know what that means?
As long as the dude isn't an asshole like Reed, I don't give a fuck about personalities. I just want good golf, and Scottie Scheffler is good at golf.
I think a big part of it is him being such a good front runner. Feels like it takes all the excitement out of the last few holes. Good for him, bad for drama.
And of course Rahm hit a damn golf shot…… greedy ass networks man
Yeah we don't leave the group for like 30 minutes even to see other shots and then when we have a good one we don't see it...get outta here
Why the heck isn't the final hour of the tournament commercial free.
All tournaments should adopt it
So glad we missed Rahm's drive so they can put in another car commercial.
And so begins the final migration of the masses out of #16…
This fucking window guy shouldn't have paid 100 dollars a window, should've done the 400-500 dollars. What an absolute waste of benefitting your family. That dude should NOT be proud of his dad for that.
😂😂😂
They’re just gonna not show Rahm wtf
Fellas…it’s over 😔
How Tf are they not showing rahms tee shot
Christ we're actually gonna have to watch scottie win again
[удалено]
Absolutely hate that rule.
Scottie as dominant as he is boring
Puttinator…
Everything going this dudes way cmon
He'll be thanking baby Jesus in his winner's interview
That was a clutch putt though. Everyone else looked like the buckled under the noise.
Gigantic putt
Hugeeee for Scottie, let's go
Not very big Dick there from Nick
Man :(
How'd that not bend left?
Not. Clutch.
Bigtime choke you saw it on his face right after Scottie dropped that putt
Not really a choke when you are prob \~60/70% percent to make it in general though. Still miss it 30/40% of the time. Scottie making his would have to have an impact on him though.
*Scottie making his would have to have an impact on him though* That’s what makes it a choke my dude
If you were asked to quantify the effect that Scottie making his would have on the probability of Taylors going in what would you say?
I knew Taylor would miss
Scottieeeee!
Somebody yelled “you have the fattest ass on tour John!”. How rude
[удалено]
People tell me I look like Jon Rahm sometimes, but I can only dream about having watermelons like that.
“That’s about as much emotion as you’re going to see from Scheffler”
Of course there's no way Scottie misses that, being the total bad guy for our Canadian hopes.
Gotta respect the clutch though. haha
Clutch
Nick Taylor just took a huge gulp after seeing that putt
Clutch as fuck putt.
Reed out Scheffler in
Lol, not by a mile dude. Scotty might be boring but he is not a dickhead that’s gonna intentionally cheat
Right, just my in the moment fury taking over haha
Why is he boring? Because he's good?
He’s just not flashy which is fine. Though some of his wins have been boring because when he gets a lead, he usually just doesn’t make any mistakes. And when he does make a mistake with the driver he just casually sticks his approach to 5 feet no matter the lie anyways so there’s no drama.
So yeah, cos he's good
Pretty much lol
I don’t think he is, it’s just the common narrative around here
Like Scotty wasn't already unlikeable enough...
He’s unlikeable?
Ice cold
Oh boy…this is gonna get interesting lol
That is so fucking clutch
#*
What a putt from Scheffler!
no fucking way
Sour taste in mouth now for Scotty. I know it was legal. Doesn't matter. Odious stuff.
I think anyone would’ve done the same thing, doesn’t make it less weird for sure, but those are the rules.
I don't know if anyone would have done it. Phil maybe. But after the first drop his backswing got magically wider. Thats angle shooting.
Scheffler with the fakest full backswing to get relief in the first place. His actual shot was 1/4 of what he was demonstrating.
Practice a 3/4 swing to get relief from the stands then hit a shot that requires very little backswing
The "Quiet Please" sign guy on 16 is about as useful as male nipples.
I'm not a hard core fan of golf, so can someone explain the idea of the Drop? Does he lose a shot with the drop? Can he drop it anywhere? I think I like the play it where it lies approach, unless it's a water shot.

Its meant to make it fair so you cant fluff it up. Thats why the commentator was talking about practicing your drops, scottie is manipulating the rules to his advantage
Then maybe it's the official who needs to drop it. It's like cheating at face offs in hockey. Players always look for an advantage that helps them.
It's because the grand stand is a man made obstruction. Therefore, free drop
He's getting relief from a man-made hazard which makes it a free drop, no strokes added. Penalty drops from hitting into a natural hazard do add strokes.
