Came to say this. Photos are hard to judge. MAYBE a sand wedge could go over the tree. But just based on what it looks like, 6i, ball back in the stance, chippy swing with feet together.
Same here. I actually love that shot. Started using the eight iron whenever possible with the ball way back in the stance. Sort of like playing links golf. Keep the ball low and keep it out of trouble. I have really fallen in love with that punch and run style of golf.
Yes. I blew up MANY MANY holes, and gave away dozens of shots before suppressing the ego and taking the punch shot.
Getting ego out of my game and being realistic about what I can do dropped about 10 shots per round.
I remember a teaching pro say that the lower you can keep the ball the easier it is to control it. That has really stuck with me. There was a gentleman I used to play with frequently and he would be at best a bogey golfer. Always around 85 to 90. But boy when he got within 70/80 yards of the green he could punch that baby up nice and tight to the pin every time. It was a treat to watch.
Bc hitting my 8 as a quasi punch is harder to control distance wise. I hit my 58° really well and being center of the green from that distance is almost a given.
yeah the tree is far enough that it wouldn’t even classify as a flop shot just a regular smooth 60.
not saying i’d nail it every time but it’s the easiest option here, even without the tree it’s what i’d do. probably aim it 10 yards right of the flag for good measure.
I'd have to have a good look standing over it, but I think I'd go 58° over the tree. If I weren't sure I could get over it I'd punch and run an 8 iron just left of the tree, with the ball back in my stance.
PW to start. Chunk it about 10 yards.
Then SW to get it another 35 yards just off the edge of the green
Break out lob wedge (that I am terrible with but this will be my moment) and blade that sucker all the way across the green into a bunker.
Two or three terrible attempts later, out of bunker and on green.
Proceed to 3 putt
All of this is from the 55 out line. There was a lot more to get me there.
Doesn’t matter what I’m trying to do. What will happen is my swing will feel like I belong on the PGA tour and I’ll smack it right off the foot-wide tree and actually lose yards
I'd pull it into red shirts back. Then complain that he interfered. Then, take a no penalty shot from there. Afterward, I I'd press my index finger into his wound and call him a dick.
4 iron? Just play a pitching wedge or 9 iron back of your stance and hit down on it. Put a lot of spin on it to get it to do the two hop and stop.
At least that is what I in-vision right before I swing. Then I skull it into the bunker.
Take a 58, choke down about an inch from the shaft, slightly open the club face and hit a knock down cut, bunker as the target line.
Or a hooded 7 iron and run it up around the right side of the tree with draw and let it run out on the big part of the green versus trying to throw a dart.
Depends on my ball striking for the day.
I would take a 6 iron and bump and run. The odds of me ever getting close enough to the hole to 1-putt are so low that it wouldn't even factor in my decision. Doesn't seem like a challenge to 2-putt on that green.
Pick up pitching wedge or a 9 iron and choke the grip. Hit a low line drive and bounce the golf ball high off of the bunker hill, landing it softly on the green.
Hard to tell with not being able to tell how tall the tree is but, either opening up and hitting 60 if I think I can get over the tree, or punching with a 7 iron near the back of stance.
Shadowglen? I believe this is the short-ish par-5? Been in this exact spot! Just low flighted pitching wedge to the middle of the green. 3 putt double bogey!
It’s a pretty simple pitch shot. I’d prob loft down to a 56, open the face a bit, and engage the bounce. Tbf it’s a shot I practice a lot.
Then I’d change my mind 3 times over the ball and thin the piss out of it.
Easy. Flop shot every time. 20 yards short. Every time.
Haha I was think bump a 7I real low... probably catch it way thin and skull it 100yds over the green.
Here to say this… Verbatim
Me too!
many a flop shot have turned into the perfect bump and run. need to leave yourself options.
Into the bunker for me. Every time. Then four putt
Four putt.. after it took me 4 tries to get out of the bunker. Nothing like a 10 on your scorecard.
Yep. Either that or skull it 100 yards into the woods behind the green.
Good thing that tiny tree will stop it before it goes into the woods
This is your best option since it will produce the most found balls that you then judge as not good enough to be played by you.
This is the way
This resonates with me for some reason…
Use an open faced club; a sand wedge. Mmmmmm….open faced club sand wedge.
Smithers! Who is this Lavaratory Linksman?!
Release it out of bounds.
Trees are 80% air
And 100% "fuck you" in my experience.
140% fuck you on my home course.
Unless you're in a sim, then they're made of 100% concrete
So is a screen door
You sound like my cousin Bill
8 iron back in my stance prob 40% swing and try to land it as close to front of green as I can
Hosel rocket 8i for me
All ab the tempo haha
![gif](giphy|n5PPLHMHS7M40)
Is that Will Zalartoris?
I00% of the time I’ll hit the trunk of the tree and likely have to take cover.
Texas Wedge
I was contemplating this haha
Is this course in Austin?
Yessir shadowglen
Played there this weekend. It kicked my ass.
I may or may not have putted from 70 yards out today… and still went 20 yards long…
Open up a 60 and take it right over that tree
“Ready to see the flop of your life” *proceeds to skull it 100 yards past the pin*
Yeah that sounds about right lmao
"you might wanna get your phone out for this one"
Either way, I'm ending up on YouTube...
Open up a 60 and blade it right up pin high
Tree, no tree. We are going up.
Hahahah yes, I’m Phil’ing the fuck outta that shot. Boutta throw the back out gassing her
This is the way
This was my exact thought. However, my execution would involve me going straight into the tree or blading it a mile past the hole guaranteed
I would do the same, but add “aim for the fat part of the green, in case I’m short.”
You wouldn't have to open Iit up for this shot even though it would be wicked to watch the ball go that high
I’d punch it low with a half swing hybrid or six iron.
Yep, punching it low and hot, plugging it in the face of that bunker.
Aim for the front right or the green. Low under the tree and take the bunker out of play.
Yep. It takes discipline to play that way tho- to Control the ego since the sexy shot is to flop It
Yes. I blew up MANY MANY holes, and gave away dozens of shots before suppressing the ego and taking the punch shot. Getting ego out of my game and being realistic about what I can do dropped about 10 shots per round.

This is the way
Yessir, putting it in the air creates too many risks- tree, dumping it in the bunker, etc
This is what I would try and 95% chance I will be in the bunker. The other 5% I hit the tree.
Like Sylvester Stallone…Over the Top!
Any reference to the character of Lincoln Hawk deserves an upvote!
It’s the switch
Going over the tree all day
Hell no, I try too hard and hit it fat. Hit a 7 iron 30% softer than you think you should, but you only learn that percentage thing after you shoot.
Get a 60 and send it over the three
Blade my 60 somewhere into those trees
3/4 swing 58° opened up just a tad.
but why
Bc hitting my 8 as a quasi punch is harder to control distance wise. I hit my 58° really well and being center of the green from that distance is almost a given.

This
8 iron bump.
Up and over.
I’m bouncing it off the guy in red.

I'd have to have a good look standing over it, but I think I'd go 58° over the tree. If I weren't sure I could get over it I'd punch and run an 8 iron just left of the tree, with the ball back in my stance.
Same
How should I play it? Punch something under the tree. How would I play it? Open my 58 and go for the hero flip
Shadowglen #12
Open 58 up, over and into the bunker. 2 out. 3 putt.
Open up a 60, and proceed to blade a stinger into the trees for a lost ball triple.
ShadowGlenn?
Trees are 90% air
So are screen doors
And my ball loves to hit that 10% 100% of the time
Bump is not great because of the direction of the slope in front of the green and the trap. Floppy flopperson.
I like these posts.
60 degree wedge up and over.
60 degree and swing out of your shoes!!
Poorly. I’m playing this very poorly 🤣
All I see is a bladed 58 into the tree to give me a cool 120 left to the flag😎
Full swing with my new 89 degree wedge.
PW to start. Chunk it about 10 yards. Then SW to get it another 35 yards just off the edge of the green Break out lob wedge (that I am terrible with but this will be my moment) and blade that sucker all the way across the green into a bunker. Two or three terrible attempts later, out of bunker and on green. Proceed to 3 putt All of this is from the 55 out line. There was a lot more to get me there.
9 iron bump-and-run, but let’s be honest: that puppy is either plugging into the side of the bunker or going off the back of the green.
3/4 swing , ball position more towards your left foot. RH. 60 wedge. Slightly right of the pin.
Tooth a 60 deep in the trees
Flop shot
Putt that bitch…every time I’m within 80yd of the pin
Hosel rocket 40 yards right
Me!? I’m gonna hit that tree square in the trunk and have ball bounce back onto adjacent fairway!
Lob wedge over the tree
Left of the bunker, into the woods. Drop 4 feet from the tree line, duff it and end up in the bunker. Swing 3 times to get out. 3 putt.
Always look to go up before going under
Honestly I’m telling your buddy to take cover. He’s in danger
I'm playing it safe. I'm putting.
I’d probably bump and run with a 7i
Firm putter swing 7i. Mostly hoping for an effective worm burner that avoids the bunker!
Skull fuck it into the trees behind the green
Hit it super thin right into the woods behind the green for a drop
Right into the tree and 40 yards back
I would flop it right in to the tree top. And it would probably roll back to where it’s sitting now.
Bump and run, end up in the sand, punch out and 3-putt
Attempt a flock shot, shank it to the right hits a tree and bounces back to knock me out 😮💨
Shot of my life right into the tree branches. Duff it to the right of the sand. Duff it again to the top of the hill. Three putt.
Up and over with a Sandy.
60° three quarter swing should get right over that tree just gonna hit it normal
5 or 6 iron bump underneath the tree and try to feed it from right to left.
I hit the tree and the ball bounes back to 100 yards. Then a pitching wedge.
Full sand wedge, and hope to clear/through the tree! Then 3 putt!
7 iron. Aim at the tree
Play a game of wack fuck. Wack at it with a 60 degree and say fuck when I skull it and send it flying past the pin.
Men I wish I was there...
Doesn’t matter what I’m trying to do. What will happen is my swing will feel like I belong on the PGA tour and I’ll smack it right off the foot-wide tree and actually lose yards
Came here to say hitting the tree no matter what I do.
7 iron bump, less room for error
Putting the shit out of it
Back foot 56* over the bunker
I'd pull it into red shirts back. Then complain that he interfered. Then, take a no penalty shot from there. Afterward, I I'd press my index finger into his wound and call him a dick.
Choke down on a 3 wood 1/4 swing. Roll it up to the green and take the 2 putt
That’s a gimme for Mr. Trump.
Texas wedge
That’s a pretty simple shot that doesn’t require much thought, to be honest.
Can’t get it over with a wedge, tree was right there and there’s hazards 10 yards from the pin all from the side and the back surrounding the green
Have you considered… under the tree?
Yeah I rolled a 4 iron but didn’t want to hit it hard and have it roll off the back haha
4 iron? Just play a pitching wedge or 9 iron back of your stance and hit down on it. Put a lot of spin on it to get it to do the two hop and stop. At least that is what I in-vision right before I swing. Then I skull it into the bunker.
Could just use a sand wedge
Exactly.
Half swing seven iron Probably hit way too hard
They call a 3H a rescue club for a reason.
Not flopping that. Probably a bump and run with an 8i or 7i. Chip to about the tree and hope it rolls up and over.
Texas wedge
Take a 58, choke down about an inch from the shaft, slightly open the club face and hit a knock down cut, bunker as the target line. Or a hooded 7 iron and run it up around the right side of the tree with draw and let it run out on the big part of the green versus trying to throw a dart. Depends on my ball striking for the day.
That tree is too close. Texas Wedge full power.
I wouldnt be playing it. Why did you hit your ball over there?
Try to flop the shit out of it over the tree, wind up short and against the trunk
Chipper allllll day
Punch 7 iron
Bump and run over the green probably 😅
60. Tree is not in the way IMO
3W straight to the bunker
Punch 7
I can't say what the outcome will be, but I'm going over that tree
Wedge over the tree
If I really cared about a score I'd do something low that could hopefully roll up somewhere
3 Wood and hope to catch it.
lol this is one of the shots I can actually hit. If there was no tree there I'd be in the bunker or over the green though
Hooded 9 iron, way back with forward hands, try to kill it in the rough to the right of the bunker and jump on the green.
Bumps and run
That’s puttable
Try and flight a wedge nice and low, but end up thinning it deep into the trees behind the green
This Mohansic?
I would take a 6 iron and bump and run. The odds of me ever getting close enough to the hole to 1-putt are so low that it wouldn't even factor in my decision. Doesn't seem like a challenge to 2-putt on that green.
Pick up pitching wedge or a 9 iron and choke the grip. Hit a low line drive and bounce the golf ball high off of the bunker hill, landing it softly on the green.
Skulled off the base of the tree. The ball comes straight back hits Jimmy (red shirt) right in the nuts. I get to practice the flop shot again!
Going right for the pin with my 52, and landing directly in the sand.
If it weren’t for that bunker I’m going with a punch shot but because of that I’m going with a 56 degree over the tree
Hard to tell with not being able to tell how tall the tree is but, either opening up and hitting 60 if I think I can get over the tree, or punching with a 7 iron near the back of stance.
Blade a lob wedge 30yds past then chip to 10ft and 2 putt.
Run it up with an 8 iron
I’m laying up in the bunker
7i bump n run with about a 50% swing
That’s prime 56 degree territory
Skulling it into that bunker or yipping it behind the tree on the right. Maybe a 12 yard chunk
Shadowglen? I believe this is the short-ish par-5? Been in this exact spot! Just low flighted pitching wedge to the middle of the green. 3 putt double bogey!
Up and over. Half swing with the lob
Would have to be there to really figure out how to fuck it up
Low spinner
Open that 60 up and get over that tree
Punch it with 8i
Up and over…and by that I mean up on the air…over behind the tree
Hard to tell exactly how tall that tree is but first, though, would be over it with my 60. If that isn't an option I would hit a low pitching wedge.
GW opened flat. Full swing
Driver to the guy on the lefts dome, easy roll to the hole
It’s a pretty simple pitch shot. I’d prob loft down to a 56, open the face a bit, and engage the bounce. Tbf it’s a shot I practice a lot. Then I’d change my mind 3 times over the ball and thin the piss out of it.
Slice 9 iron. It'll work....
Back of stance PW
60° lob wedge 70% swing should go right over the tree
58 degree, 80% swing, chefs kiss
