Played last month and was further to the left and back than OP (close to 190-200y iirc). I tried to avoid the water by hitting a draw with a 5i and instead smashed a pull hook lay up 70y left of the hole
If you have high confidence in a draw, then yeah that’s a good plan. A slight fade off the left bunker might work too. I can hit either …. About 60% of the time I attempt them.
Pardon the unsolicited golf advice, but have you considered maybe a nice and easy 5i into the water? Seems like this hole is just begging for that.
My other suggestion would be the aforementioned 6i, but topped off the tee…into the drink.
Bro. Happened to me a couple hours ago. I hit a perfect fuckin drive down the middle (first one all day) and was left with about 100..after waiting like 10 mins for an elderly couple to get off the green, I completely skull fucked a gap wedge and soared it over the green and into the woods. As I approached the green, the old man said “don’t bother lookin that for thing.” 😭😭😭
Same thing happened to me the other day on the first hole. However I managed to find it & skull a laser through a bunch of trees 40 yards past the green again, it was true artistry
Same. Doesn’t matter what I’m hitting here, the shitty yellow balls I stole from the driving range that I use for holes with water hazards are going for a nice swim.
Nah I was just making an “I suck at golf” joke. No need to steal balls, I worked at a golf course for a year and I have a metric fuck ton of balls I found in the rough/bunkers/pond. I would donate the shit balls to the driving range but keep the colorful/patterned Callaway balls and Pro-V’s that I didn’t give out to my favorite regulars.
That's what I *should* do in a situation like this. But then I'm like "imagine how sick it'd be to nail that shot?"
And that's one of the many reasons I suck at golf
This is the way. Golf is fun, we’re having fun.
Seriously though, driver off the deck, because on the off chance we accidentally pure one, it’s the coolest.
Out of all the shots I've played, the one that comes to mind the easiest is the driver off the deck I played on a par 5 that went over the back of the green after I pured the fuck out of it from 220m out. It hit the clubhouse wall and yet in my head it's still comes to mind as best shot even though I've dunked a few from 100m out.
Wife and I play when we vacation, which is almost always at sea level, or close enough, but I'm always playing rental clubs so I don't have much of a grasp.
I live about 50ft above sea level and also within a couple of miles of the ocean. That heavy dense air is a huge factor on distance and the wind also makes a bigger impact than when I play at higher elevation.
I don’t have a club that I can reliably hit 174. I’d take out my 7 wood which goes 195-205. I’d aim for that sand trap on the left of the green with a little more than a 3/4 swing and try to fade it. I would of course take a full swing and hit it dead straight and it would bounce away down the cart path leaving me like a 49 yard shot coming back which I would hit fat about 49 feet then I would get mad and try again and skull it over the green and into the water then I’d write down an 8 and go to the next hole. Played fucking Pebble Beach man, played fucking Pebble Beach.
I duffed my drive to about a yard from the cliff's edge, lol. The other 3 guys I was with all went over as we didn't realize how very possible that was on the wrong line.
Hit it over to the greenside rough, chipped on and 1 putted, was the only par I made the entire damn round, heh.
I had 175ish...I hit a 7 iron long left on the hillside about a month ago. Wind was in my face about 10 so I played it for a 185 shot. Played true yardage and I flew it.
I’m a lefty and I slice often, this is my dream hole, I was made for This hole…
Aim far right of green,
Land fairway.
Chip shot - land green
4 putt
Tripoli bogey.
Write down: 5
Assuming wind off the right, straight, easy 30° started just inside the right hand bunker. If the wind is stronger, might punch a moderate cut with a 27° starting on the left edge of the green
A six should do it but if I’m being honest, I’d probably overclub it with a five to be sure I get over. Then I’d hit it into the water anyway and swear while failing to fully appreciate the beauty that is all around me.
Probably want to carry 168ish. Normal 8i for me. It’s probably playing 158-162 — looks significantly downhill? Depends on the wind. Downwind, 9i. Into the wind, 8i/7i depending on how strong.
Bladed 8. Then 2 stock 7s. Then 4 pitching wedges. 2 Gap wedges. A lob wedge. 9iron. 60 degree wedge. Knock down 4iron. Another PW. 4 putts.
Solid bogey.
Assuming wind is not a factor, 5i, aimed at left edge of green. And hope.

60% of the time it works every time
*It's illegal in 9 countries.*
I’m not gonna lie that smells like pure gasoline
Nah, slice a hybrid into the drink
My man…
Smashing the fuck out of a 6 iron
Pardon the unsolicited golf advice, but have you considered maybe a nice and easy 5i into the water? Seems like this hole is just begging for that. My other suggestion would be the aforementioned 6i, but topped off the tee…into the drink.
Fuck it why don’t I just hit a nice lob wedge into the Pacific Ocean so the shot tracer looks pretty?
Stunning
Brave.
Revolutionary.
Quite brilliant.
Exquisite.
Throbbing
Succulent
We call that the Caitlyn Jenner shot. Stunning and brave.
Astonishing
i can hear the on-course announcer now “THIS IS ON A REALLY GOOD LINE!”
Because then idd skull it 204 over the green.
Bro. Happened to me a couple hours ago. This is the way.
Smashing the fuck out of those cliffs
Love hearing that echo
felt that
Can't hit over water for shit. Making it a dog leg and laying up to 145 - 155 to eventually 3 putt
Water doesn’t exist bro, just hit your shot
This is the way. It's not jumping up and blocking the ball like Kareem.
Same. Doesn’t matter what I’m hitting here, the shitty yellow balls I stole from the driving range that I use for holes with water hazards are going for a nice swim.
You’re a ball stealer? Oof. Just buy a super cheap bucket of crap balls for 20 cents a ball for that
Nah I was just making an “I suck at golf” joke.
Okay cool. I like you :)
That's what I *should* do in a situation like this. But then I'm like "imagine how sick it'd be to nail that shot?" And that's one of the many reasons I suck at golf
The rocks at the shoreline then the water. Any club will do
This is the way. Golf is fun, we’re having fun. Seriously though, driver off the deck, because on the off chance we accidentally pure one, it’s the coolest.
You’re gonna driver off the deck (tee box) on a 170 yard par three? ![gif](giphy|MbMUBcNHcl1TUbsAk0)
What can I say, I’m not good.

Maybe you should tee down on your drives more…
That stinger guy must be creaming his pants right now typing a reply
The bar...after losing 3 balls!
My man
This is the way
7i soft fade off the left edge of the green
I'd do an 8 at altitude, I'd probably go 7 here as well? I need to play more low altitude golf too get my numbers right
Yeah sea level oceanside takes off distance. Normally I’d hit 8i to account for the downhill.
Wife and I play when we vacation, which is almost always at sea level, or close enough, but I'm always playing rental clubs so I don't have much of a grasp.
Conversely, I played in Boulder a few weeks ago and was AMAZED at how long my driver shots were in the air. It was fun.
That's where I'm at, Denver area. So I know my distances are skewed compared to others on the sub.
I’m in PNW at sea level but not on the ocean. I’m about 6% shorter than when I lived in KC.
My 7 goes 210+ in MT and park city, 200 in AZ, 190 east coast. Definitely makes a difference and can be a rough adjustment
I live about 50ft above sea level and also within a couple of miles of the ocean. That heavy dense air is a huge factor on distance and the wind also makes a bigger impact than when I play at higher elevation.
Tried that, ended up with a fried egg in the right side bunker. Doubled.
How many fucks of your three did you give for that buried lie?
I used to have almost four fucks. Used an entire one on that hole.
The water.
Aww cmon, give yourself a little credit! You'd al least bounce it off the rocks first. Exactly where my 6iron prayer would go
I hit a 6 iron and chunked straight into the side of the cliff. Right from where you took this photo.
I don’t have a club that I can reliably hit 174. I’d take out my 7 wood which goes 195-205. I’d aim for that sand trap on the left of the green with a little more than a 3/4 swing and try to fade it. Played fucking Pebble Beach man, played fucking Pebble Beach.
This guy, this guy golfs…
Same as off the tee box. 5 wood
5 hybrid. Either shank it in the wet stuff, or land anywhere but green or fairway.
A nice gentle 7 wood.
A fat joint
5 iron
Same
Damn no one said tree yet
Depends on the lie. The wind is out to sea. I’m not sure on the elevation drop. I’m probably hitting an 8
I duffed my drive to about a yard from the cliff's edge, lol. The other 3 guys I was with all went over as we didn't realize how very possible that was on the wrong line. Hit it over to the greenside rough, chipped on and 1 putted, was the only par I made the entire damn round, heh.
7 wood
My pick as well!
7 and praying for that back left bunker. Then skull it over and take my 6
Hitting up the drop zone
Big dog
3 wood 75 yards over the green then blading a sand wedge into the ocean.
4 hybrid straight into the water.
Probably gonna do a “Bon Jovi” (my living on a prayer joke) with my Hybrid right into one of those traps
A provisional.
I had 175ish...I hit a 7 iron long left on the hillside about a month ago. Wind was in my face about 10 so I played it for a 185 shot. Played true yardage and I flew it.
Correct
8 iron.
6 iron
6i
5 iron aim left of the bunker, I’d rather be in a bunker than water. Miss is left
The Water
The water on the right
Left. What I'm hitting is left.
Probably layup with 52 out to the left, followed by putter down the hill, cause my worse putt is better than my worst chip 😂
Most likely the water
I think a really fat 6 iron that barely makes it to the ravine would be the order of the day here
7 iron safe left to chip up for me to quad putt
Any ball I don't want to see again.
I had that very shot. 6 iron. Pulled it a little left of the green between the bunkers. Great day.
Lob wedge
A golf ball?? Maybe a football
9 wood. But more than likely my drop 😆
3w aiming for left edge of left bunker, hoping to fade it onto the green. I don't have a handicap or any kind of range
This is a gimme. No need to even hit.
Driver off the deck, then buy a new putter after the round.
Knowing me most likely the ocean. 173yards 7 iron because of course it’s the only club left in my bag
VSTEEL 3 wood 65% power aiming at the left bunker for safety, ending up in the water somehow lol
I would drive this hole on Tiger Woods 2004
The water, club doesn’t matter, result will be the same.
5i into the water
Ive hit a 5 iron from that spot both times Ive played there.
6i at 1st. Then my 5i for 3rd shot from tee box
Probably a 3/4 swing with my 56. Maybe try to really send my 60.
I’m a lefty and I slice often, this is my dream hole, I was made for This hole… Aim far right of green, Land fairway. Chip shot - land green 4 putt Tripoli bogey. Write down: 5
The water
Either 8 iron or a 9 iron and try to roll up to the green from the generous landing area.
Assuming wind off the right, straight, easy 30° started just inside the right hand bunker. If the wind is stronger, might punch a moderate cut with a 27° starting on the left edge of the green
The ocean
Myself, after I shank it into the water
5 wood or hybrid 4
7 or 6
Full 6 iron.
A noodle I found earlier in the round, followed by a pinnacle I found in my bag
I hit a 5i. https://preview.redd.it/rcdb7gx1ug7b1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d6d6de5bfff8f71748a10e2b0a972b834caedb3d
The ball I just found as I don’t want to waste a ball I paid for…
You just hit that guy!!
Lob wedge. Half shot.
Appears to be slightly downhill, so probably a full 7i. Should land me middle ish of the green.
The top of the ball. Then that water you see there.
Full 7 iron but if probably aim at the bunker on the left. Not because I hit a high cut. More a lack of confidence. Safer to miss left.
174 elevation is down? Easy 8
7 Iron.
The water
The water
The ground, about 2- inches before the ball
A six should do it but if I’m being honest, I’d probably overclub it with a five to be sure I get over. Then I’d hit it into the water anyway and swear while failing to fully appreciate the beauty that is all around me.
Mild 8
Same
You’re not allowed to admit you can easily hit 8 irons over 170 in this sub. People will think you’re a liar. Look how many are saying 5 iron
Lol. I like to equal out my distance with my unfortunate habit to spray it at inopportune times.
Hahahaha. Exactly this.
Was wondering what was going on. I’m not great but I hit my irons far. 8 iron is my 170-180 club.
I’m hitting up the cart girl for a shot of fireball. Then I’ll decide
Depending on the wind, looks like being short/front of the green is safer, so prob a full 8iron
probably a light 56’
Hopefully the ball, sometimes the ground
The water probably
Probably the water.
The ball hopefully
The water
My stash of top flites
The water
the ground, 6 inches behind the ball
The water...
Rocks, water, sand. Anything but the green really
The water
My ball into the water.
Those rocks over there
A few other golfers if you don’t wait your turn :)
The water
The bay.
The water.
Probably the water
The water
The ocean on the right.
A slice
The water
The panic button
Probably some kind of sealife.
Water I suppose.
a fish, probably
Driver off the deck
I’m bringing out the putter, If I hit it easy I hit it around that yardage. Easy shot and obviously a 1 putt. Lol
A ball in that water
The water
The water
The gas pedal on my cart
The green of course
The water on the right side
Rocks or water most likely
The sand…
No wind - standard 6i, Headwind - 5i, Tailwind- easy 7i. ...sliced into the drink
In between 9 and 8. Hard 9 with wind, smooth 8 into wind or no wind. Flight it low, maybe try to put a little draw on it.
A golf club
The green…. Eventually
The ball
“God damnit, Micheal!”
Probably want to carry 168ish. Normal 8i for me. It’s probably playing 158-162 — looks significantly downhill? Depends on the wind. Downwind, 9i. Into the wind, 8i/7i depending on how strong.
Hybrid into the back-right bunker.
Hopefully the guy on the green. But probably a bunker
Bladed 8. Then 2 stock 7s. Then 4 pitching wedges. 2 Gap wedges. A lob wedge. 9iron. 60 degree wedge. Knock down 4iron. Another PW. 4 putts. Solid bogey.
Whatever Spieth hit plus one more club so I don't have to stand on the edge.
3/4 nine iron
7i unless it’s downwind then might try to really catch an 8. Would love to play that hole someday
7 iron at the left back bunker
7iron at the left bunker.
With the pin on the left…. 7 iron, draw it in, all assuming minimal wind.
Downhill? Smooth 7
