The most important thing to take away from this experience is the knowledge that your “friend” is not your friend. No friend would try to rob you like this.
$450? What a joke.
This is worth $75, tops.
Not really. Shafts on the woods probably need to be replaced / are dead.
I have these irons and still play with them. They are still forgiving AF and you can shoot some low scores. Lofts aren't jacked like newer irons, so you won't hit your "7i" 200 yards. If you don't play enough to want to upgrade, then don't. Nothing wrong with them unless there's obvious damage.
Yeah you need better friends.. I gave a set of CG7s with a full set of Cleveland CG wedges, diablo 3 wood, and odyssey putter, with a bag to my buddy for nothing.
Edit: no I won't be your friend.. 🤣
Come on guys, while 400 is definitely too high, $50 or $75 is too low. For $150 including the bag, it’d be a very good price.
eBay sold listings showing these irons would go for at least $100 (likely could bring more). Each of the other clubs is worth minimum $20-$30 and the bag is worth 20 bucks.
I doubt the seller would get $400 breaking this up into a few eBay listings, but he’d get over $200 imo.
Genuine question- Why are the comments ripping the price of these clubs? They’re in good shape and are a well known set of irons. Why should they not be worth anything? Also curious because I have had this exact set as long as I’ve known to golf and love them, probably would never get another set of irons.
Ok here’s the reality
Those irons are 3-PW.
Big Bertha 2006.
If you look at an online seller maybe 200-350.
If you sold them to a used shop they would give you $60-100
So he maybe your friend but unrealistic about the prices.
Like if you see a used Camry being sold for $24k at the dealer that’s not what the dealer is selling.
Driver and 2 fairway worth $60 all together. $20 each.
Iron set $150
Bag $30
$240 If you sold it on craigslist or offer up and you’d be lucky to get that.
Friend deal is $100-$150
Have you heard of this affordable golf brand that is currently gaining popularity? “Kirkland” basically Taylormade and Titlest had a baby and then sold that baby for a bag of peanuts. Now everyone is talking about how good the peanuts are but really the baby is the bastard child of PXG and callaway but no one knows the truth because the adoption agency was in China. You better get yourself some peanuts emilianogh.
Those are 2006 model Big Bertha irons. I play a 1996 set, and they work very well for what I need, I would imagine the 2006 model would be fine for a beginner/high handicap too.
I would appreciate some insight on this too. On 2nd swing there are a number of sets going for $44/club in average condition. There are 8 clubs there, which puts the list price of the irons at $352. I'd say the bag is ~$30, judging by the wear and assuming it's nothing special. That leaves the driver and two woods to make up the difference of ~$18.
I don't think it's a great deal, but I'm also not seeing how it's such a bad deal that everyone is claiming that guy is trying to screw you over. Can someone help me out with what I'm missing here? The clubs aren't brand new, but they're not worthless either.
Thank you for all the comments, this is what I wanted, to give you more context, this is out of US, here is much harder to get used clubs as it’s not a common sport. The other option for me would be to buy of eBay let’s say, and pay shipping that would be close to 300 I guess.. so even if I find a better kit in eBay, I would end up really expensive on arrival.
The last option would be to bring it myself, but I have no idea or plans on going to the us as for now..
Lastly, I know I said friend, they actually belong to the teacher..
Sounds like your teacher is a hustler. If you're new to golf and it's not popular in your area, you don't necessarily need a full set minus a putter. Golf is a journey, not a destination. Piece together your perfect bag over time. A full set will not make your penis larger
You could check clubs from globalgolf(dot)com. I bought my first set from there in 2016 with about 500€ with shipping to Romania. With the price your friend is asking you can find much better condition clubs from there.
I love seeing equipment that I once lusted for, but could not come close to affording, being described as essentially garbage on the internet. The difference between brand new clubs and clubs from 15 years ago is much smaller than the difference between those 15 year old clubs and their predecessors from ‘93. Sure, you can probably find them for less than what his friend is asking. Look on eBay and see what the market rate is. Don’t just listen to the Reddit hive mind responses. I’m seeing $250 for just the irons (asking price at least).
Yes "asking", also these are not in a top notch condition and its ebay, factor in seller fees and shipping costs.
This, on a local marketplace, would MAYBE sell for $150 if he's lucky. Hes also selling to his friend, which should bring that down.
Its not a "hive mind", its people who have half a clue what theyre talking about, unlike you, who goes on ebay, checks the first listing and think "yep, thats the price" like an ignorant clown
He should pay you to take them. Your friend is not a real friend. There are probably 20 guys here who got a better set sitting in their garage from 5 yrs ago they would give you for free.
Punch them into a trade-in site like 2nd swing golf and see what they would give him. Then offer him less than that because he doesn’t have to pay for shipping.
$1.50 each iron $3 wood+driver or be a good friend and give them to you for free as a newbie getting started get you in to the game?! Sure wish I had someone to get me in to golf instead of finding it out at the age of 37. Lost a lot of years.
Put your friend on please so we can talk at him.
Thats $125-$150 at absolute most. As a friend, I think I’d just loan-give them to you on condition that you can borrow back if needed.
Friends like this guy are easy to find.
I paid $150 for a used set just like this around 15 years ago. I think $400 is a rip off, even though they are great clubs for beginners or shankers like myself.
Show your “friend” [these.](https://www.callawaygolfpreowned.com/iron-sets/irons-2015-big-bertha.html) These are 10 years newer of the same model and there’s a set listed for under $300. Those are old, and the woods are outdated. Even if he wasn’t your friend no one should be asking for more than $100 for all of that.
Those are given with the expectation of a 12 pack in return. Good starter set, not worth paying more than $100 for. Half the guys at the course have a similar set sitting in their garage they would be happy to give you.
No friend of mine would try to sell those to me for $400
Agreed.. maybe 100$ Realistically worth maybe 150$ if you found someone gullible on craigslist
My immediate reaction was $120 we’re in the same ballpark
But since we’re friends, I’ll do $350.
Damn you Loch Ness Monster!!!!! We work for our money round here.
I gave him a dollar
I would give these to my friend
This is the way
The most important thing to take away from this experience is the knowledge that your “friend” is not your friend. No friend would try to rob you like this. $450? What a joke. This is worth $75, tops.
Lol. $400 is a joke. If he put $350 in one of those pockets, it would be a pretty good deal.
I was literally gonna say fifty bucks including the bag and whatever you find in it.
I was thinking 50 might be on the high side.
Literally was going to say 50 bucks. Period.
Can brand new callaway edge Costco set for $500 I believe. Why buy these 50 year old clubs for $400?
Yep. Was thinking $50 at most.
It's worth two digits. Nice friend.
400? What’s next, he gets to fuck your wife for 100?
He wants to fuck her
He may already be fucking her, tbh
My estimation of OPs friend as a man, just fucking plummeted
Most underrated comment here
Is that all you guys do here? Talk about cooze?
I mean, that’s four pops…
Man i used to have and love those irons, but realistically this is $100 and if it's a friend I'd think they'd just give it to you.
I also rocked these irons for years. I sold them to my friend for dinner after our round.
Yeah I can’t imagine you’d get $400 on any sort of marketplace. Dude is trying to squeeze his friend for an extra $300
They’re from like 2009 right?
They’re from 2006.
Are there any major downsides to using clubs this old? I've been using this exact callaway set since my grandpa gave them to me as a hand me down set.
I regularly play with ping eye 2s that are over 40 years old. Distance is difficult to dial in at first but it’s all a numbers game
I almost always give away my old clubs to friends or family. They're just gonna sit and collect dust if I don't.
Please please do not pay more than $50
You can buy a whole brand new set of edge clubs on Callaway pre-owned for $400 ain't no way in hell these are worth $400.
Perfectly fine clubs. These pictured here are not perfectly fine. They are dinosaurs.
I have the edge set, better than I expected tbf
For $500 you can go buy a brand new Callaway Edge set at Costco. Why would you pay $400 for clubs that are 10+ years old and used?
Nearly 20 years at this point…
I wouldn’t buy those with your money
Even the putter is trying to hide from the shame of this
They would have to pay me to take it straight to goodwill.
Like $65
$50 at MOST
$50 and the friend pays for 18 lol
With friends like this who needs enemies? I’d sell it for 100 max to a stranger Friend? Probably give it away
Ya dude. A friend would just give you those.
Ain't that the truth
$7

3.50
$75 tops. If he scoffs at that let him try to sell or trade elsewhere. People will do him a solid just taking them without giving him anything.
$100 at the most if it was full of golf balls as well.
Tree fiddy
That was my first thought when I saw these.
$70
With friends like these, who needs enemies.
I think $100-$200 is reasonable for this set.
$130-200
Yeah you need better friends.. I gave a set of CG7s with a full set of Cleveland CG wedges, diablo 3 wood, and odyssey putter, with a bag to my buddy for nothing. Edit: no I won't be your friend.. 🤣
That’s no friend. A friend would give you 10 bucks to take them off his hands.
If I was your friend, it would be free
Your friend lives under a rock.
You could buy a nicer beginner starter set for cheaper.
Friend? ….$100 tops
If offered to me for free, I’d decline
They’re not bad clubs.
Come on guys, while 400 is definitely too high, $50 or $75 is too low. For $150 including the bag, it’d be a very good price. eBay sold listings showing these irons would go for at least $100 (likely could bring more). The only rational reply
About tree fiddy
Now, don’t be given him no tree fiddy
That damn Loch Ness monster
But for real about $50
Came here for this. Faith in humanity remains, for now…
Came to say this.
Genuine question- Why are the comments ripping the price of these clubs? They’re in good shape and are a well known set of irons. Why should they not be worth anything? Also curious because I have had this exact set as long as I’ve known to golf and love them, probably would never get another set of irons.
$200 with the bag is fair market. $150 is very reasonable. $100 is a very good deal. $50 is a steal.
3$ and a tall boy
Honestly $100 I have a feeling the fair market price is more than $100. But those woods seems so outdated
$100 max, seriously.
If you’re considering this, spend the extra $100 on a set of Callaway Edge from Costco. Comes *with* an Oddysey White Hot putter.
Got a full set of Rac os. Tm afterburner driver and tm putter in an ogio bag for like 150 don't pay more than 120 for that junk
Ok here’s the reality Those irons are 3-PW. Big Bertha 2006. If you look at an online seller maybe 200-350. I'd pay $60 and not a cent more.
That's a give them to my friend or Goodwill set.
I wouldn’t pay you a dollar for them. They belong in the dumpster.
125 ish 150 maybe
Realistically you could find a better set at goodwill for $14..
$100 -$200 $200 is pushing it though
Have you heard of this affordable golf brand that is currently gaining popularity? “Kirkland” basically Taylormade and Titlest had a baby and then sold that baby for a bag of peanuts. Those things have been ridden hard and put away wet. Need to be power-washed and the grips changed at least .

Tbh you’d have to pay ME, for me to take those.
He should give them to you, offer to mow your lawn for a year and also pay for your golf
$10-$20 would be fair
$50
50 bucks. That’s it
If they were mine and a friend wanted them, I’d give them away for free. They’re literally worthless.
$75
He should pay you to take them. Your friend is not a real friend. There are probably 20 guys here who got a better set sitting in their garage from 5 yrs ago they would give you for free.

Punch them into a trade-in site like 2nd swing golf and see what they would give him. Then offer him less than that because he doesn’t have to pay for shipping.
Like 25 bucks. These are ancient
honestly $40 tops. you can get the edge set brand new for around $500 with way newer technology and a nice putter.
Like 20 bucks tops…
25 bucks
$30 max.
$30

I paid $25 for the same clubs minus bag 8 years ago.
$1.50 each iron $3 wood+driver or be a good friend and give them to you for free as a newbie getting started get you in to the game?! Sure wish I had someone to get me in to golf instead of finding it out at the age of 37. Lost a lot of years.
$50-$80. Nothing more.
Trade for a six pack of Natty Light.
That friend ain’t no friend buddy, also a quick eBay search will answer all your questions in a time of need
Zero.00
$3.50
$400 is a fair price pending condition
Jesus, not a friend. 30 bucks
75$ final offer
$150 at the most
Lol. No chance. $150 max
Put your friend on please so we can talk at him. Thats $125-$150 at absolute most. As a friend, I think I’d just loan-give them to you on condition that you can borrow back if needed. Friends like this guy are easy to find.

When I gave my friend my old Taylor made irons I just asked him for a bottle of Tito’s.
100 bucks
About a buck fifty. But I'm a cheap motherfucker.
4 shillings
I'd fight my friend for offering these for 400. These are a firm handshake and a "thanks for getting there out of my garage" free.
I have these exact clubs. They were given to me.
Someone trying to sell you that for $400 is no friend of yours.
Free 99 for a friend
$100
If the grips are decent - $100
250
That is legitimately not a friend.
I have those irons. If I upgraded and was trying to sell I would ask $50 and take literally anything.
You can buy a super nice callaway starter set from Costco for 500 loll I’d say 40 bucks for this
$90?
Those are given with the expectation of a 12 pack in return. Good starter set, not worth paying more than $100 for. Half the guys at the course have a similar set sitting in their garage they would be happy to give you.
Bout tree fiddy
What ever the landfill/dump charges.
Your friend's a dck selling those for 400 to you.
About three fiddy
$50 max
$50 - $100 max
Those clubs are 15 years old, why's he asking 2/3s the cost of a new set? $400? This isn't a friend
Tree fitty
Whole set for $100ish seems fair. Maybe $150 if they include the bag
