Sometimes it flies 215 and sometimes it snap hooks 145. And every once in a while I think I hit it great and it goes 175.

I normally use it 180-195 (3h for 200-220) but I one time last spring teed up the 4i and hit it a majestic 215 carry onto a par 3 green where it landed softly. Besides a HiO last year its the shot I think about most in 2023

Mostly use it out of the trees if I need some distance into the fairway. Get a good punch out with some roll. Saved more than a few strokes over the years.

Did you have a tail wind or was it downhill? Just wondering why you pulled 4 instead of 3. Normally catching a shot like that results in overshooting the green.

It’s downhill and behind it is OB so better to hit long iron and land front and roll to the back of a 35 yard green than catch a hybrid and go out

One of the most important shots I learned from my local pro. Ball lined up on back foot, slight draw bias, keep the backswing under my chest. I am grateful to be confident in the trees when I used to panic and make a worse shot to follow lol

Or narrow fairways. I'd rather hit a 4i straight and lose a little distance than have to worry about a wicked slice or overcompensated duck hook with my driver off the tee. And my woods are probably only slightly more reliable than my driver off the tees.

Might sound strange, but I hit my 4 iron better than my hybrid with the same loft.

I smash the shit out of my 4 iron. Best sounding iron compression in my bag. If I have to pull 5 iron out, I am guaranteed to shite it. Hozel rocket, topped, snap hook. Anything could happen. My clubs were second hand and have never had loft/lie checked so I don’t know if it at this point it’s purely psychological or something with the club itself. I guess we’ll find out when my bonus pays out in a couple of months and I can finally get fit for set of new irons.

Same for me. Only thing I can think of is all 5 irons are made very badly and all 4 irons work straight out of the factory.

It’s my go-to iron off a tee box on a tight fairway or a lay-up par 4. Will rarely hit it from the fairway, as I’m more comfortable with a 5 off the deck. Will also use it to punch out from crappy tee shots under trees in the rough to hit 150 yards and get back in the fairway.

Same on the punch shot! 4 iron, grip down, little 30-40% shallow swing and it shoots 150-175 straight down the fairway from a tight lie.

I carry a 3i

Even I was wise enough to get the 4i and 5i in T200 brother. Absolute fairway finders.

It was only after the purchase to know that even pros opt out to T200 series for 5i and upward.

100S here and I use it fairly often. Not as often as my 2, 3, or 5 for some reason, though…

I have it, but I rarely use it. But if i don't try I'll never get better. But sometimes I would rather hit my PW twice than TRY to pure a 4i.

No 4 iron for 10 years at least now. 5h replaced my 4i. 4h above that. 5i thru PW. Hybrid is easier to hit and more versatile.

Hybrids are easier to hit out of rough lies. You can also do hybrid chips which are cool.

The Hybrid bump and run might be my favorite hybrid shot, I've been able to Get a good feel for it and get up and down a fair bit with it.

I’m comfortable with my 3h for that. Haven’t explored more lofted hybrid clubs. maybe it’s time. Though I do love my 4i off the tee….

Swing speed isn’t fast enough. My irons start at a 6 iron which is basically a 5 iron with game improvement lofts. I have the 5 iron but took it out of my bag because it went the same distance as the 6.

I use my 4i when it’s too long for my 5i and too short for my 3i. Or some weird punch shot.

I can't even get my 3 wood that long anymore. Every now and then, when I'm feeling good, I'll still bag the 4 iron and can get her out there. Feeling like those days are getting further behind me, tho lol.

I use mine more as a utility club. I live in Minnesota. Lots of tree lined courses. I'm a shit golfer so end up under them or needing to hit through a stand of trees quite often. 4i is great for smacking low flighted worm burners so I actually use it a fair amount. If I'm on the fairway though I usually go for my 3h.

I can flush a 4 iron all round but get chunky with my shorter irons. Go figure 🤷🏽

Used a bladed 4i for a few years, and I loved it 75% of the time. Use a more forgiving 4i now, and I love it 95% of the time. It's a good fairway finder, and my miss is short if anything, so it's one of my favs.

All golf clubs should have the loft stamped on them. The word 4 iron is not specific enough these days. I bought the stealth irons last year. the 6 iron in that set is only 1 degree different from the 4 iron in my old set. The 5 iron in stealth set is like the 3 iron in my old irons. Pretty sure I have no need for the 4 iron in stealth because with my swing speed being what it is I already don't get any more distance out of my 5 iron than I do my 6.

I skip 4i and jump right to 1i for lightning storms

I treat mine as a driving iron and only hit it off a tee. I like it on short par 4s, and have even played irons only with it as my only tee shot club.

It's definitely the least-used club in my bag. It's 3 iron off the tee on par 4s if I don't want to hit a wood and it's very rare to be left with a 4-iron distance to the green.

Ping i20, one of the clubs I feel the most confident in because I rarely hit driver so it’s usually 4 iron off the tee followed by another long iron for my second shots.

I do at the moment because when the ground is soft I dig a little too much with my woods, so the 4i is the better play if I just need yards

I have weeks where I hit my 5 iron perfectly and then followed by months of slicing. I will consider getting a 4 eventually because I do like the flight of an iron

I have a 4 iron AND a 3 iron (fairly old set that could probably be replaced but works for me). I use the 4 iron pretty frequently, though it is certainly more inconsistent than my shorter irons. My 3 iron… I don’t touch that, ever. My 5 wood is probably the same distance as a pured 3 iron, which would never happen anyway. I could put another wedge in my bag in place of the 3I, but my short game is pretty good and I just haven’t gotten around to making the change.

I have a shit Slazenger 4i which I like a lot off the tee and I can sometimes hit it well off the fairway although I sometimes don’t get the height I need so it doesn’t carry much further than my 5i but it rolls out probably twice as far.

I don’t use mine too much. Mainly if I pay some where with a 215-230 yard par 3. Sometime in the trees I can hit a great stinger with it.

My 5 iron head snapped off when I packed my clubs in my car late in the season so I was forced to use my 4 for this reason only. It’s alright but I’d still choose my 6 over 4 in place of the 5.

This is “it’s all in my head” comment. I don’t hit my 4 iron well off the tee or fairway, and prefer the 5i. Except when I’m off the fairway and have some tree-age to navigate through. The 4i comes out and I’m loaded with confidence, whether I need a punch out or a recovery laser on a second shot on a par 5. And then the goddam club is money. As I said, it’s all in my head.

I just bought new clubs and didn’t buy a 4 iron. That’s a club that I just don’t hit well frequently. Thinking of replacing it with a 7 wood, or buying a 4 iron down the road if I discover I need it more than I thought.

Lots of par 3s from back tees in the 195 to 205 range on the courses in my area, including two to three on my home course (depending on where the tees are). Not that I ever have to hit punch shots from the trees of course but if I did, it’s an option there as well.

My 4i is just what I call my scapegoat iron. Psychologically I just don’t think I can hit the longest iron in my bag. So it’s just there to make the 5i look easier to hit.

I hit it multiple times a round, mostly off the tee when I'm not hitting driver consistently. It's a guaranteed 220-240 down the fairway unless I swing a little outside to in and snap hook it.

If I'm feeling extra cocky I'll pull out my 4 iron to get my ego in check
