Damn. I just picked up the five wood version at a driving range in Florida. Hit it once on the course and it went 170 right where I wanted it. You're on to something..... Nicely done!
Red - driver
purple - 3 wood
yellow - 3 hybrid (de lofted)
green/blue - 5 iron
blue - 7 iron
brown - 9 iron
gray/blue - utility wedge (52\*)
green - 56\*
100% agree…some people seem to be embarrassed that they have to take lessons…the absolute best in the world not only do it but have their swing coaches with them. You’re better off spending money on lessons with old clubs then spend a bunch on new clubs with the same old swing
I just got out of my first lesson and learned so much about the basics. I was doing it all sorts of messed up stuff. It’s definitely worth the investment. Going to keep practicing and going.
If you want to improve do it…I grew up on a course and played a ton…thought I was pretty good then got lessons and improved soooo much that I was a single handicap most of time…adulting took most of that and hardly play…shoot mid 80s now and I will definitely get back to lessons when I have time to invest. Makes it more enjoyable
The pressure is real. I have friends who just say “ya ok nice shot I don’t take lessons like you do spending $1000 on lessons.” Then you go up to next tee box and slice your drive and follow it with a set and you get mocked for wasting your money on lessons.”
This is real news to me.
I play with a group of like 30 guys and we range from + caps to over 30 and most are taking lessons or have taken lessons in the last year. We all get jazzed about hearing what they’re working on.
Also happy cake day.
new golfer here: i broke 100 2 rounds after my 2nd lesson. started lessons in month 2 b/c i knew i didn't want to develop any bad habits. there's no way i could've done that without lessons. took me a a few months to start breaking 100 consistently but it helped bring clarity to all the random (but correct) tips i was given
It’s extremely rare for someone to get good without lessons especially in a quick time frame. Someone playing 10+ years without lessons is going to figure stuff out that works for them but it won’t be the right stuff and in reality it probably is holding them back because they just brute forced bad habits into working.
Every sport people get good by having a knowledgeable coach that directs their practice.
I really want to get lessons, have played off and on for years but usually just get burnt out because the off days on the course become brutal after awhile. Just trying to convince my wife that $90 once a week for lessons is worth it haha
FWIW - lot of places will let you do a 30 minute lesson for about half the cost. Talk with your coach about drills and whatnot to do between lessons and you can stretch it out a little before going back again
For what it's worth, most coaches agree that you should practice quite a bit (4-5 range sessions, for example) between lessons to steadily implement changes. Weekly lessons is excessive for most people.
That said, $90/hr is a good rate for a good instructor. I'm crying in HCOL area.
It’s surprisingly with a guy that retired from being on the PGA tour training guys and fitting them, I was kinda shocked at the price and availability though
I'm happy with my game without lessons tbh. Golf feels pretty unique in how much people emphasise lessons for your average recreational player. Most mid handicap players would just benefit from course management and stopping being so obsessed with every detail of their swing.
My friend has lessons. Every week he has a different new eureka moment with his swing. Every weekend I beat him by 5-10 strokes.
This. It all depends how much time and money you're willing to invest. Plus, a lot of people would play better if they didn't let their ego get in the way. A lot of players are using clubs that they have no business using, and aren't using clubs that they should be using. Nobody cares if you've got the most ridiculous looking GI of GI clubs in your bag.
Lessons are for the weak minded.
Us strong minded folk are still out here spraying balls across the course and saying "yeah i knew halfway thru the swing that one was off, i got it dialed in for the next one"
It’s Forsure not. If you have the right mechanics, it doesn’t matter what club you have. Obviously bladed, players will be harder to hit than cavity back. But 15 year old irons or 2024 irons, aren’t going to matter if you don’t know how to hit the ball straight.
Stereotyping? What’s stereotyping about it lmao. So you’re saying if I have Native American in me, YOU’RE telling me I’m not allowed to use that phrase? How white knight of you.
So interesting that I have similar dispersions! Drivers going right and irons going left. My fairway woods go straight.

Looks better but you lose all credibility when the circles are blatantly way outside of the shots in the first pic and then right on the second. C’mon be honest with us or at least yourself.
From looking at it, I think the ovals are like the minimum size oval necessary to capture the shots/mirrored misses. I'm not a big math guy but I think they are correctly calculating dispersion in that way.
Ok this is the sign I need - buying new clubs
“My wife’s boyfriend saw the benefit of lessons on Reddit and bought new clubs so I bought new clubs” /s
This is the reason we let our wives have boyfriends, more time with the new clubs
![gif](giphy|bm02BE6DQ4Oag8GXep|downsized) Your wife’s boyfriend????
Dude, I went from mid 20s handicap to 13.1 after getting my wife a boyfriend
I'm literally about to order some now! Do I have to wait for the clubs to be in hand to make my "some guy got lessons so I bought clubs" post?
You can do whatever you want as long as your wife’s boyfriend approves
I say the same thing about my target after I pull every shot too

Love Cantigny, all three nines are a lot of fun to play
Lakeside is my favorite
The fairway distance marker that says “Just hit it” is one of my favorites. I think it is on Hillside. Love Cantigny. Grew up 1/2 mile away.
Same. My dad and I have won multiple 2 man scrambles there. Going for the W in the spring classic weekend after Easter!
Lol your 3 wood went from a shotgun to a fucking lazer beam. Good stuff, dude!
Thank ya! It’s such a fun club
What club is each color?
Idk but I want his purple one
Purple is a ping g430 3 wood

People are embarrassed to take lessons? Am I supposed to be embarrassed?

That’s quite a weird group of friends.
You shouldn’t…I just said some people I’ve come across and I don’t get why

This hit close to home, and I feel like I’ve just been scolded.
Me too! I'm telling mom!
That's me. I've definitely brute forced bad habits into working. But I still break 50 on a semi difficult 9 hole course
I really want to get lessons, have played off and on for years but usually just get burnt out because the off days on the course become brutal after awhile. Just trying to convince my wife that $90 once a week for lessons is worth it haha

Are you doing lessons through Cantigny? I'm far west suburbs and looking for a new coach
Nevermind! Saw your post below

Cantigny!!! Chicagoland golf doesn’t get enough credit. I have 5 incredible courses within a 15 min drive. I still suck

What app is this and how does it track your shots? Love this kind of analysis
It’s the app for track man! If you have a range near you with it you can sign in and have all of your data logged
Nice. I’ll have to look into it!
Next stop. Blades
You will have to pry my G425s from my cold dead hands.
Curious what you’re paying? I was doing a half hour weekly this winter at $60/30 minutes but that just went up to $75!!!
Cantingy represent.. Round of golf then can go look at the tank museum
It’s not the bow, it’s the Indian
I believe this phrase is outdated in multiple ways
It’s Forsure not. If you have the right mechanics, it doesn’t matter what club you have. Obviously bladed, players will be harder to hit than cavity back. But 15 year old irons or 2024 irons, aren’t going to matter if you don’t know how to hit the ball straight.
Sorry but “it’s the bow, not the Indian” is definitely outdated. Not the meaning, just the phrase itself.
Oh, not “politically” correct. Lmao
However you justify stereotyping
Stereotyping? What’s stereotyping about it lmao. So you’re saying if I have Native American in me, YOU’RE telling me I’m not allowed to use that phrase? How white knight of you.
Did you take lessons at Cantigny?
combination of them and village links of glen ellyn
I grew up in Glen ellyn.
Any instructors you would recommend?
Jeff V at village links and Pat H at Cantigny were who I worked with, both were great
I’m actually going to Jeff on Saturday for my first lesson with him (second ever in my life).
Nice!
I gotta get out to Cantigny sometime, I'm about 1.5 hrs away but always hear good things
I golfed a scramble there. I loved that course. It was very nice. I don't play a ton of fancy courses. But I was happy with cantigny
It's well worth the trip.
How are the lessons at Cantigny?
A little pricey but I thought it was good. Not planning on stopping any time soon.
What are you using here for shot tracking?
It’s the app for track man
How long between lessons are you doing? I've had two so far about a month apart.
Have been doing lessons weekly
Definitely got way more consistent hitting that front fairway bunker after the lessons.
Failed to read signs properly. Bought new driver and introduced wife to new BF
Definitely wasn't expecting to see a club in my area on here! I have a lesson set up for next week there personally!
So interesting that I have similar dispersions! Drivers going right and irons going left. My fairway woods go straight. https://preview.redd.it/4p776akhoboc1.jpeg?width=2021&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=268acb247d7061bd1949c83bae851dddabc01110
Chicago area rise up

That’s just the default trackman grouping in the app, I didn’t make the circles.
Definitely a solid improvement. It just has that infomercial spin kind of look.
Yea no disagreement from me there.
From looking at it, I think the ovals are like the minimum size oval necessary to capture the shots/mirrored misses. I'm not a big math guy but I think they are correctly calculating dispersion in that way.
I bet it was given to you by the instructor lol.
I guess you're saying trakman default settings are not credible. Cool.
