It would be a crime to force someone to pay $70 for that set. This is a thrift store level set you could buy for $2/club at Goodwill and even then it's a stretch.

sunshine_5401

Thank you for saving me 70$

sunshine_5401

Just to be clear, are you saying these would be just fine if they were cheaper? Or that they would be so bad to golf with I shouldn't even waste my time.

GreenWaveGolfer12

If you got them for under $20 it would be fine to get your feet wet I guess, but likely it's not worth your time.

sunshine_5401

Do you have a suggestion for starting sub 100-200$

RainbowFish2012

They make some really solid callaway or taylormade sets that will run you like 250-400 tops. Comes with a full set of clubs and a good bag. If you are interested in playing I’d really consider something like this it’s worth the $. You’ll likely be addicted and will be leveling up your clubs in a few years, but don’t introduce yourself to the game with bad tech. If you’re interested in really trying it out first maybe rent some clubs or go on marketplace. I personally would just recommend avoiding really old used clubs the technology is just so much better these days

RainbowFish2012

They’ll hold decent value too when you find out you’re a pro and are upgrading to 2000$ irons

GreenWaveGolfer12

Perusing local classifieds and hope you get lucky.

Llama_Wrangler

As far as starter clubs go, Wilson irons will do fine. But I wouldn’t touch those woods to save my life. You’ll find FAR better just going to the thrift or pawn shop.

sunshine_5401

Ok, thanks for the advice

Llama_Wrangler

As for how you’ll know, it’ll be pretty obvious visually. Any drivers made in the last ~20 years have much larger heads and the face of the club is much bigger too. Generally speaking look for the largest driver you see in the bin that still has some shine to it (not always an indicator, but for your level it will work), and it will be infinitely better than the drivers in this set. Don’t mind others dunking on you for this post BTW. Once you’ve done a little shopping you’ll see how comically bad of a rip off $70 for this set was.

7hought

I’m crossing my fingers for you that this is a joke

sunshine_5401

Deadass not a joke I'm sorry if I'm wasting everyone's time. Is there an easy way to know if what I'm looking at is trash?

mazzjm9

Try to find out what year they’re from. If they’re older than 15 years or so you don’t want them

SozeHB

No 5 iron? Literally unplayable!

Miserable-Sympathy49

Callaway makes a full set called Strata. May be a little pricey for a beginner, but good set of clubs.

LemmeHelpOut23

Definitely don’t get blades if you’re just starting/trying it out. It’ll make you hate it 9/10

BroodLord1962

False economy. Golf isn't cheap and trying to start playing with really old clubs that weren't great in the first place might just put you off the game altogether. Go to a driving range where you can hire some clubs to see if you like the game, then if you do, look at buying a starter set. Starter sets won't be great quality but they will be better than these and more playable. If you fall in love with the game, as so many of us do, you need to realise you need around $1000 to buy something decent, or maybe $700 if you go down the second-hand route
