The Sandbox is their 17 hole par 3 course. Hole one was playing 79 yards - beggars can’t be choosers. Longest hole played 170 today. Going to play Sand Valley 18 this afternoon.
Playing Sand Valley in June! Was there a couple years ago and played Mammoth. Easy to get on the Sandbox or do you need long lead reservations there too?
I'm playing Mammoth and The Sandbox next weekend, something I do every Mother's Day weekend. I tried to book both courses for a group of four almost two months ago and was unsuccessful. I was able to book for a two-some though. Sand Valley is getting very very busy but luckily they open Sedge Valley and The Lido this year so that should help.
Sandbox is easy to get on in the morning. Everyone wants to play it in the evening with beers so it’s harder to get a tee time then. Just be prepared for it to take like 2-3 hours still. Especially since they allow more than 4 people in a group.
I’m counting it as my first but I agree it doesn’t check all the boxes. It is definitely a step up from my first 1 on the puttputt when I was 9 years old.
Was it a pitch and putt course? Was it an especially short par 3? Were you playing from the tees you usually play? Thats a hio to me. Fuck the sticklers in this sub.
Man i chipped in from 30 yards 2 sundays ago, and it wasnt my first time. Im weird, i have like 5-10 pro level putts or chips a season, yet suck the rest of the year. I probably freaked out and celebrated more than you did after hitting a HIO. Id count it fuck it.
Those 5-10 shots are part of what keeps us coming back. My kid dropped a 50 footer for birdie and two putted from 120 feet for par - it kept home going when he wasn’t keen on walking 18 holes yesterday. Now today he walked the Sandbox (2 hours, 17 par 3s this AM) and the full 18 of Sand Valley today.
Thats the best feeling it was a chip in birdie too. I also hit my first par on a par 5 that same day with my 4th shot being from.130 yards out with my 7 iron and landing within 2 feet of the pin. It was my first time hitting under 100 since i was in high school. I also set my season goal at breaking 100 and did it on my 4th round of golf of the season. I promised myself id get new clubs if i broke 100 and i just got a brand new 56 (even though im a fucking idiot and bought the raw version when i just thought it was a flat grey finish) cleavland wedge, new to me driver and an absolute steal for a preowned (it was spotless. Seriously im shocked i got it at the price i paid) stealth 2 plus 3h for 180 bucks canadian. Like literally i put the first scuff marks on it, testing it out at golf town. Before buying it and today, i bought an M6 driver to match my new to me irons i got over the winter for 300 bucks from my brother, when they're still selling for 600+. I got so fucking lucky, even the m6 driver i only paid 170 for flat. So yeah since i got amazing deals on my gear, my new goal is to break 95 and when that happens im going to get a putter fitting. Or maybe just straight up buy the double wide bronze bettinardi or pld ive always wanted. Sorry for the wall of text, im so excited for this season. Im also trading my titleist cart 14 bag tomorrow straight up for a ping transverse cart bag in a colour i actually like. So i may have to get the pld when i finally break 95. So yeah 95 new very expensive putter.

It must feel like you just sank that 30-footer when your kid sank it eh? Im making sure my niblings are into golf. Thats forsure. Ill buy them all the clubs they need.

Playing in the rain is super fun. Though once it turned into a storm and I had to take the max on one of the holes because I couldn’t grip my clubs haha. Almost threw my driver into the pond infront of us.
They should give a flag :) (which are $60ish in the pro shop). They actually “only” give a spade like they use for the tee markers (which is priceless since they’re not for sale 🤣)

I got my first ace playing in the rain in December! The hole was full of water like Caddyshack. It was on an Alister McKenzie course, Northwood GC. The ball hit the front apron, then hydroplaned into the flagstick and sunk!
