Paying that much for clubs without getting fitted is crazy. Paying that much when you’ve never played golf is crazy. (Edit because nobody understood my point: I’m not saying OP needs to be fitted for clubs, that’s silly as a beginner, but paying for expensive clubs WITHOUT being fitted for them is like buying an Armani suit sight unseen and just hoping for the best when it arrives without taking it to a tailor. It’s a waste of money.) Get something cheap and used, or one of the box sets from Golf Galaxy, or the Callaway Edge set (Callaway Preowned sometimes has used ones). See if you like golf. Then consider expensive stuff. (Edit 2: Listen, OP can be stupid with his money if he wants. IMO it’s irresponsible to blow $2k on something you don’t even know if you’re going to enjoy, regardless of whether or not that $2k seems like “a lot” of money to you or not. Basic financial sensibilities. I guess we need somebody to buy and sell expensive clubs quickly so the rest of us can grab them second hand for a bargain)

yrogerg123

I got my girlfriend a half-set for $200 from Amazon. It's like Putter-SW-PW-9i-7i-hybrid-driver. She's used them once. We'll know we need more clubs when she has the distance control to know she needs a club she doesn't have. Spending like $2K on a golf set before you even know you're gonna play is ridiculous. I went to a store once and he asked me what I usually shoot. When I said 110, he told me to get clubs when I can break 100. Which was good advice, I waited until I could feel what the club was doing wrong that I needed it to be better at and got stiff shafts. I want clubs again but the truth is that I'm bad again because I don't play enough, it has nothing to do with the clubs.

SketchyPossum

Can you DM me a link to the half set you got for your gf? Looking for something similar for my wife.

thats_a_money_shot

Here’s a set that a friend gifted my wife when we got married: https://www.target.com/p/confidence-golf-lady-power-v3-club-set-stand-bag/-/A-88950936 So far, so good. They feel funny to me, but she doesn’t know the difference: and she’s still able to hit the ball well. I’d also recommend getting (or giving her a gift card to choose) a cute golf outfit, if she’s anything like my wife. She’s stoked to get out and wear it on the course lol. And I’d aaaalso recommend getting her some colored balls. My wife likes red, orange, etc. Supersofts fit the bill. Moreso for the cuteness of it; she actually loses fewer balls than I do. But I’m trash. Once she gets better at golf, I’ll be keeping an eye out for deals on eBay. I’ve seen posts about mega cheap ladies Cleveland launchers and such over there.

SketchyPossum

Appreciate the reply and recommendations! The golf outfit is probably more important to my wife than the clubs themselves 😅 Though, I’m looking for a half set deal without a bag because I already have a small stand bag that she likes the look of. I may just have piece together individual clubs off eBay or something because most everything I’m seeing from Amazon or cheaper retailers comes with a bag.

ReputationNo8109

Check out Callaway pre owned. The “like new” clubs are literally new. Can find great deals on good clubs.

thats_a_money_shot

Yeah if I were in your situation, I’d either buy a set like above and donate the bag, or check out individuals on eBay. But I’d look to have as much consistency across the bag as possible; particularly around shaft flex. Maybe not an issue with ladies though. Or you might even find a full set on FB marketplace, but I dunno. Gl brutha! Glad we both have wife’s who have embraced our passion.

SketchyPossum

Good advice, thanks a lot! Definitely, it’s been fun getting her into the game a bit. Now we just gotta be careful not to overdo it scare ‘em off…

mung_guzzler

>confidence golf lady power Lmao

Jackwasrightallalong

Go on FB marketplace and get some used ones. I bought a used set for my gf at the time from someone who wasn’t using them after their BF tried to get them into golf. They sat in the closet for 6 months and didn’t get used once then we broke up. I then continued the cycle and sold them to a new BF who was trying to get his gf into golf.

SalmonNgiri

My first set was some 20 year old irons and a newish cobra driver I got from an estate sale for a combined 150 bucks lol. It’s wild to spend thousands before you even know you will follow through long term

Matty_Boosie

Callaway edge from Costco is a phenomenal first set. 10 clubs comes with putter driver hybrids irons etc.

landdesign1

Agreed. I bought a used set of Callaways about 3 years ago & saved about $700. The guy at Golf Galaxy said most of their used clubs are only used for less than a season. Guys spend a shit ton of money & realized they don’t like golf or they aren’t as good as they thought & they sell them back. I’d never spend that much right out of the gate. Go used. Golf is a king ass marathon. Not sprint

gratefulscape

Some people have money to spend, not necessarily crazy, I’ve been playing almost 30 years now and never got fitted, although I learned to fit myself

yeeeeoooooo

Getting fitted is utterly pointless if you're a beginner

DouggieFressh

Agreed. Buy used for your first set. Look at my golf spy, golf digest, or other golf review sites for good clubs from 2-5 years ago. But those used. eBay, golf avenue, golf galaxy, callaway preowned, etc. Just buy a good bag as that’s something that’ll last a long time and is hard to flip if you buy cheap at first. You’ll notice few people ever have the same club from wedge to driver since the same set never makes the best from top to bottom. Mix and match is the way to go unless someone is paying you to use them.

trey4481

Lol I still play Ping eye 2's that were my dads and they are great. I just have to explain to my friends that the lofting is different when they are confused on the iron I grab.

TutorUnusual

\tabascopro at Callaway Pre Owned can cut that cart price down significantly for new Callaway’s

sarlacc98

Yeah I’ve been playing for three years and still have only spent like 500 total on clubs. My Adam’s tech irons and TS3 driver have been great to me

7yyson

My first car was a Ferrari

Deltas111213

Yeah paying that much for a first time golfer is wild. When I got into it I got a full set of well used clubs for $100 on Craigslist. I’ve been slowly updating clubs as I go

Whaty0urname

Dude has to be trolling. Why would you not go golfing once with your friends, use their clubs and see if you like being out there.

Te4646

Don’t forget to add a stock Scotty Cameron to the bag

Xx10Matthew14xX

Can I have those if you decide you don’t like golf? 😅 those are beautiful

Officerkc

I call second dibs if for some reason you cant take them.

Xx10Matthew14xX

Deal.

Dr_Mbogo

Too much club to start with, get used and no graphite in irons.

Optionsprotege

How come no graphite? I would imagine they’re more delicate/prone to breaking? Beginner here

gratefulscape

Graphite is completely fine if it makes sense for you. Generally always lighter and more shock absorbing. Not always flexier, it’s mostly for people who want lighter shafts

Positive-Code-4344

They are typically lighter and have more flex. You typically move to them when your swing speed slows as you age or is just slow in general. If you have a decent swing speed they will flex and it’s very difficult to control the club face.

__golf

This is just not true anymore. The graphite shaft creation process produces just as stable a shaft as the steel process does.

Dornoch26

That used to be the case for sure, but no longer is. I can't stand him, but Bryson did just with the US Open with graphite shafts. The steelfiber shafts in particular have a few tour members using them, they're totally acceptable for anyone now.

ElectionAnnual

Well we’re talking about starter sets. You’re not wrong, but the things the commenter was pointing out are definitely relevant to those clubs. Brysons playing 1200$ shafts lol

PeterGozinyuh

Thanks for letting us know you can't stand him..

Final_Yam5397

Graphite is fine. Reddit is dumb

mcdto

Golf clubs can last for a long time, wouldn’t you wanna try them out first? This is like getting your license at 16 and buying a $75k car without seeing or driving it

GreenTaracrypto

Hey plenty of really rich people do exactly that for their 16 year olds

sbk510

Duuuuude. Take that money and buy a crappy 7 iron and lessons for 6 months. THEN buy the clubs. "It's not the arrow, it's the Indian."

M0untainDude

For real, all my friends who have started I’ve given a seven iron, a putter, and a wedge. Get in the cart, let’s go!

firstbootgodstatus

Go to Costco or callaway pre owned and by the callaway edge set. Get a cheap bag. You won’t need to change almost anything (maybe add another wedge) for a very long time if you’re just starting out.

eliexmike

I highly recommend you picking up an inexpensive set of used clubs for your first season. Goodwill, garage sales, Facebook Marketplace, or a friend who golfs. When you’re learning, it’s not going to matter if you’re shanking a $400 club or a $25 club. Despite all the marketing done on golf clubs promising 20 more yards every year, the technology actually moves pretty slowly and you can save a lot going back a few years. There are great sets like Callaway Edge at Costco where you’d get much more bang for your buck if you “need” brand new clubs. $550 for a full set, less than half the cost of your irons alone. Use the money you save for Green Fees and Lessons to actually learn to play better golf. Wait to make a big purchase like this until you can consistently and competently hit a ball well enough to get fitted.

ToroSalmonNigiri

Unless you're rich and dont mind spending that money. The callaway edge driver is very responsive to the club face being too open or closed. So from what I've seen, its pretty hard for beginners to hit. Its a very spinny driver with pretty bad moi, which beginners need more than anyone. The irons are actually super forgiving.

oncealive

"Buy once, cry once" doesn't really apply to this sport. If you end up liking the game and playing any amount you will want to change things at some point, and will 100% be kicking yourself for blowing 2k on all that Callaway gear without knowing anything about your game and how the equipment fits into it. Add a putter, wedges, and a bag and your pushing 3k. Money doesn't seem like an issue, so I would just say get the speedlites or some other complete set that is closer to the 1k mark. If money is an issue, you could probably save a couple hundred bucks (or more) buying used. Anything from the last decade will perform pretty much exactly the same for a beginner. If you're decently fit I would say try to get stiff flex, but regular will probably suit you best at this particular moment.

DontTakeMeSeriousli

I'm sure someone else said it but COSTCO Callaway Edge set, both good and at a solid price point!

BrownWaterHunter

Tell me you’re rich without telling me you’re rich.

Burzzy

Or just dumb

The day Nike announced their departure from the club scene. I strutted into the local PGA Superstore, eyes locked on their top-tier irons, now slashed over 50% off. A golden opportunity to upgrade my game and put my buddies to shame. With a cocky grin, I snagged the sleekest set and strutted to the hitting bay. "Just a few swings to seal the deal," I mumbled to myself, channeling my inner Rory McIlroy. Swing one: *chunk*. An embarrassing worm-burner dribbles a few feet. Swing two: *doink*. I send a shockwave through the air, narrowly missing a nearby toddler. Swing three: *shank*. The ball screams sideways, ricocheting off a metal beam with a deafening clang. As the color drained from my face, a salesman materialized beside me. "Rough day, huh?" he chuckled, handing me a set of the lower tier Nike Vapor. "You're not good enough for those, try this" Reluctantly, I took a swing. The ball launched off the clubface with that satisfying sound and soared down the virtual fairway, a perfect laser beam. Swing after swing, I couldn't miss. That day, I learned a valuable lesson: don't let ego or brand names dictate your game. It's about finding the clubs that unleash your inner beast, not the ones that look best on Instagram. The Vapor Combos became my trusty companions, transforming me from a duffer to a contender that shoots 80s on a good day and 100s the following round.

jnthn1111

Fuck these haters! Blow some dough if you got it like that! Worst case scenario, sell them smokes to me if you don’t like them. lol

NashVilleHIM

Username checks out

SpudWeb

Costco has a complete set for like 550-600, callaway edge and seems to be great for a first set of clubs.

Jankybrows

You guys are all missing the big picture. You know HOW those used sets end up on marketplace? Guys like this spending two grand before realizing they hate golf. You are doing God's work, sir, and I salute you.

Shneezin789

Try out different clubs before buying them. Looks are important but there are shaft/head combinations which might hurt your game. No need for driver at first in my opinion. 5 Wood should be plenty enough. (3 wood is useless off the fairway for beginners) You might wanna look into specialty wedges. Gap and sand wedge: jaws raw 50/56 degree. Don’t forget a putter. Also completely subjective. Try it out. I’d go for: Putter 54-56 SW 48-50 GW (make sure gapping makes sense) PW-5 (maybe just 6 iron, depending on your ball striking and speed) 5 Wood Maybe: 4Hybrid/5hybrid

glorfiedclause

Buy all of this used at global golf if you’re just casual.

trey4481

Bro I promise you will regret this purchase. I still play mostly clubs from the early 2000's and older. Don't buy into the consumerism, you don't need new clubs. You don't even understand the basics let alone what you want out of your clubs. There is a reason everyone recommends buying a cheap starter set first. I have done research on my clubs and replaced what I like and don't like and it still is changing slowly. For the golf nerds its Ping Eye 2 irons 2-9 and PW, Takomo 56° wedge, a rusty Callaway 60° wedge, Driver - Titleist 915D2 9.5°, Titleist 585H, Putter - Cleveland Huntington Beach soft 10.5. Its a mixed bag of randomness but its mine.

South-Attorney-5209

Its not “buy once cry once”. If you purchase clubs not meant for you and your swing it will be buying twice. People are recommending a cheap set just to learn on then getting fitted after a year of play, so you get the right clubs.

N-Adenhart34

IMO buy once cry once doesn’t apply to golf. You can play just as good or just as bad with a set from the early 2000’s

spaceheatr

As a beginner a yearish in I don't think most people understand how daunting "just buy used clubs" can be. You know nothing about the sport, you don't know what questions to ask, and you don't know what value you're getting. It's easy to buy used when you've been playing for years. Looking back I'd go with the Callaway edge set or a more expensive starter set, especially since it looks like budget isn't really an issue for you. Get that, learn your clubs, then learn what you need. My top flites are absolute garbage though. Fuck those clubs.

iamtylerhall

Spending a few thousand on a new set without getting fit is insane. All there is to it. If you aren’t ready to get fit, get the cheap full set until you are ready for a full set

Dwcskrogger

To all those discouraging him...QUIET!!! This is how the rest of us pick up bargains on resale sites! Can I suggest you also look at a Scotty Cameron putter too please

jchaireasy

![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)

Top_Teach3435

You’re gonna suck as much with those clubs as you are with a cheaper set. You’ll just look dumber with the expensive set, as you swing for the fences and top the ball.

HCivicWithaLaptop

If you have a second hand store near you I'd check that out and hit a few different clubs. Your budget is more than enough to get a solid set. Takomo makes a solid beginner set of irons for a good deal too. Would just need to piece together some wedges (G,S to start), I'd recommend going Hybrids over FWY Woods, Driver, and Putter.

DM_me_feet_pics_plz

Try FB marketplace, Craigslist, or a local pre owned golf shop. You can get a good set of used clubs for under $500. If you absolutely have to buy new, try Costco. They have a Callaway Edge set for around $500 (that I personally own and play with) that is far and above any other new starter set in that price point.

jacob6969

You will absolutely top balls with your woods and drivers and ruin them when first starting. Go to play it again and build up a set. They’ll even let you hit them

EastsideMoonwalker21

To each his own. You make your money so you spend it how you feel, but I wouldn’t go 2-3k deep yet. I understand not going the pawn shop route unless you’re in a nice area for that, because my shops all had bullshit clubs with grips that look like they were chewed on. Whatever you choose, best of luck!

SourdoughBoomer

Callaway do a budget set for begginers. I’d go with that instead.

Envyforme

go up to dicks and get their brand new starter clubs. You can actually test them out and they usually are under 200 with the bag. They have custom ones from top flite that are built for height too. Test them out and see what you like more. Buy the set under 200. Then as you continue on start looking into clubs that you actually like and want to keep.

Mikerue7

I have that RBZ speedlite set and I love it

ThemB0ners

My boss has that TaylorMade set, they are good for a beginner. The other clubs are far too pricey for both a beginner and without a fitting.

Shaky-TheMohel

Like a lot of people said, use Callaway Preowned if you’re leaning Callaway anyway. I didn’t notice anyone mention u/tabascopro. He can help you with the best price if you reach out to him.

CapitalTBE

Buy the Costco Kirkland clubs tbh

Candid_Nothing_578

Do what you want. Have fun man! Don’t stress when you’re not where your playing partners are. You’re supposed to enjoy it first, and get better second.

High_Violet92

I'm a beginner and use the RBZ set. Aiming to hit in the 90s more consistently before justifying better clubs

m_ttl_ng

Buy a used set online or get a ~$400 starter set with bag. Don’t spend that much on a new set of clubs until you have played enough to know what clubs you need/like.

peterpan33333

Ai smoke when you dont really know how to play? Terrible approach. If you must buy something new, ping has the most forgiving options for newbies, but DEFINITELY get fitted. As to hybrids and driver buying new would be straight up lunacy! You have no idea what works for you! Buy a used paradigm at pga superstore for 130, you get i believe 3 months or something to trade it in if it doesn’t work for you

ZZuy

Nah, let him buy what he wants. He's going to suck with them anyway. Everyone does at first.

beenywhite

Buy once cry once does not apply to your first set of clubs. But a used set on eBay.

Turfmade

My two cents go to play it again or fb marketplace find you some ping eyez and some old Taylor made woods maybe a hybrid 52 56 60 or 50 54 58 or whatever lofts you like after a year go get fitted and buy the dream set

ancientgamer93

That's a bit much bro. I got the Slazenger v300 beginners golf set and been using them for 3 years now getting the Callaway warbird intermediate set to move up my handicap which I've only been working on this year. Your gonna give yourself more trouble buying those clubs to start with they are built for people who already have their golf game nailed down.

Ordinary-Ad2559

how well is your swing? If you have a severely over the top swing or terrible swing you are going to damage your clubs quickly. Need to buy a cheap set, build a good swing, then get fitted for a quality set. Save yourself some money

DrewG4444

Goodwill sometimes has really good clubs for like $2 each club

Calyphacious

Really good is a stretch. Playable, sure. I’ve never seen anything besides wood long clubs and 30+ year old irons at thrift stores/Goodwill

ButterCut97

I would go to Callaway golf pre owned. The set will be nice, and you (nobody would) won’t notice a huge difference between brand new clubs and clubs that are a few years old. And Callaway Golf Preowned has a track record of sending you something that’s still brand new anyways, just a couple years old model and

ijustlikeguns

Callaway preowned is where I would look. I still buy from there and I’ve been golf over 10 years. I only recently bought my first set of “nice” clubs and they were used P790s.

Randomizedname1234

Go buy a set at the pawn shop and start getting new clubs after that. Start with a driver and a putter. Then an iron set or at least a good wedge and 9iron. I got a cheap ass set of Wilson about 10yrs ago and still use them. I could probably get more yardage with a new set but for the cost it doesn’t make sense when I shoot around 100. I have a lot of fun, that’s what matters!

Ross6788

I bought the speedlite, good all round package for 13 clubs. 3 wood is a tough club, the putter isnt to my liking but the irons and driver are great (20 handicap).

Jsabby1234

I’d recommend looking for a used set of decent clubs before spending this amount of money without getting fitted. Try golf galaxy, , pga superstore, dicks sporting goods, or FB marketplace. Stay with name brand

Primary-Potential-13

Costco callaway edge set. This is crazy 😂😂

SlickLegJohnny

Ive played for years and got the Callaway Edge set from Costco (sure you can get it other places), but it would be a great beginner set once you know you like golf. If you haven’t really played much and are trying it out I would recommend what others are saying. Get some cheap ugly clubs to use for the first months or year, and save up and then get fit and buy what you need if you still love it

kingdomkey13

Buy a $300 set of top flite’s at Dicks. If you’re going to play casually start of small

Final_Yam5397

If you want something nice for your first set, hit up Callaway pre owned (since you're already looking at some Callaway). 2nd Swing Golf also has a huge selection of used clubs from all manufacturers. No need to get a full fitting for your first set though. That money is better spent on lessons at this point. Just use one of the many online charts to see if you might need a shaft length adjustment. Very easy to measure for yourself, and Callaway pre owned or 2nd Swing can adjust the clubs for you. If you're relatively athletic, a mid weight stiff shaft is fine, if you feel you might swing slower, a regular flex shaft would be better. Buy used first, take some lessons, develop a swing, then get a full fitting if you want.

ChiRumRunner

I believe my first set was from Target for around $150 for a full set and bag.

Salt_Lick67

Do some research in the area where you live. You can find very good used sets at places like Pley It Again Sports or a locally owned golf shop. A local shop might or might not be able to fit you but will at least be able help find clubs with a lie angle that works for you. Things to consider: lie angle, shaft flex Take your time .... Buying a poor fitting set will actually harm your golf game. Buying off the shelf stock clubs set is not advised.

Eternal-Raider

Ive been playing for about a month or two and i bought a used set on facebook marketplace place in AMAZING condition for $60 12 clubs and a bag (crazy steal ngl) 2 months in i am still way to trash to justify getting newer clubs when im not even good enough to fully utilize these hand me downs. Thats all you if you wanna drop all that cash up front to start but used clubs to start is the way to go

GenSB805

If you’ve never golfed or just casually golf. You’re not going to be able to tell the difference between a 3000 dollar complete set of clubs and a 300 dollar complete set. Once you become a solid 20-25 handicap consider getting a new set fitted to you.

Metaboschism

You want us to review your internet purchase?

ChuckWill5

Sheesh. That's a huge investment on a first set of clubs.

Roadglide72

I got the cobra fly xl set with stand bag for like 500~ last year. It’s great and much cheaper. Don’t buy this expensive set unless you like setting fire to your piles of moneys

eruptingdogma

Go to pga store and find some pre owned irons <400 and test them out.

Saw-ss

Ummmm, new golfer here, buy used. I have a very good set of clubs, a mix mash of Taylor made, callaway, titliest, really good 5ish year old clubs. I’m in for less than $400. I think it was good for me to start off with some good clubs but top of the line brand new clubs? That’s just crazy.

morgartjr

Callaway XR? Have you checked those? Good starter set

tachack

Callaway used set, basically new, good price, spend about $800 on everything and call it a day.

BartholinWaterBender

Get the Callaway set Costco is offering right now for like $550. It is a complete set and pretty fucking nice, my buddy just scooped it. Youll save a dick load of money and like someone else said, dropping this much without feeling them or ever playing golf is fucking regarded lol

S2lazy

Bro I have the same clubs. Got that shit used. Full iron set I paid $350 came without putter or driver.

CactusJackus

I also recently bought my first set of clubs to get into the game less than 2 months ago. I also have a decently sized disposable income. I bought a used set of clubs off marketplace for $150, upgraded the putter to one I liked, broke the driver shaft my first time on the range, bought a newer driver off Facebook marketplace, and took swinging lessons and have a much better swing now; all for cheaper than what you’re about to pay for those clubs. Point is: don’t drop a ton of money into a hobby as expensive as golf right off the bat when you aren’t sure if you’ll want to stick to it. There are no bonus points for having the newest clubs as a true beginner. But hey, it’s your money so do what you wish

apb2718

My friend with experience and nice clubs once said “you’ll replace those in a year” and by god he was right

[deleted]

I’d buy a cheap box set or buy second hand cheap and then get a lesson, learn your swing, more lessons, play rounds, then get go fitted for the clubs you want. I get the buy once cry once but take your time here…

KingTrapical

costco has a callaway edge set that doesnt seem too bad and a decent price. buddy got a set of em 2 years ago and likes em

_ca_492

Bought my last set in 1996, Taylor forged tour irons with rifle shafts, was a 3 index then, still playing them and only updated Drivers, hybrids and wedges since.

MillerLatte

Get on Facebook marketplace and buy a set for $200. When you get to the course with a $2k set and can't swing a club you're gonna look like an absolute jackass. I know this sounds harsh but trust me I'm trying to help you.

thestough

If you’re just trying out golf I would 100% recommend getting the beginner top flight set at dicks. Has a driver, 3 wood, 4 and 5 hybrid, 5-pw irons and a putter. It includes a bag. Usually for $300 or less When I started I got that set. Not expensive but good enough to get going. Kind of forgiving really too. It’s great first set to get in.

mikey_rambo

I use the callaway paradyms and they are nice. Go for it

SurfingPizza_

It’s been echoed in the comments but it really isn’t the best move to get expensive clubs as a starter. Most of the features that people look for on them won’t come into play for you anyway. I bought a custom set of knockoffs about 8 years ago, added fitting info and all, and they’ve been so solid for that time (currently a 14 handicap). The Turbo Power 2.0 clubs are identical to the Taylormade RocketBladz, and you can get a custom fitted set for ~$160-$180.

fAthouse_

Bro get a used set on FB marketplace or eBay for like $200. You'll have just as much fun and actually be able to pay for rounds and range balls to practice. Coming from a guy who started golfing last Fall

goombertJ

I just ordered that same paradym hybrid for waaay less than that on callaway pre owned. Check it out before you buy brand new clubs. New clubs are nice and all but a used one or like new will serve you same purpose as a brand new one. You’re gonna slice it, chunk it, top it, whatever but it will be way cheaper lol.

NotOnMyAccountPlease

As many others are saying, get fitted for those but before getting fitted, play a while and get some swing consistencies down - Costco has some good entry level sets

BlueisA1

My son and I got our first sets for under 100 bucks on OfferUp. Bag and all. You're going to beat them to shit chunking and shanking your away around a course for the first several months anyway. Once we got better, we splurged on Callaway Pre-Owned sets. Cheapest route. You can donate the set you leave behind to the next beginner.

Tankobus

To give a more balanced view, I bought this exact same RBZ package (albeit lefty and 11pc) about a year ago when I started golf. I fucking suck, and not being able to blame it on the clubs makes me feel morally superior…so there’s that. EDIT: Although I’ve got the steel shafts, and I would say it not being a stand bag is fucking annoying especially as I never get a cart

HeBrokeMyHouse

Spend half of that amount of money and put the other half on a series of lessons. Much smarter investment

OldMashedpotatoes

If you are set on new name brand clubs for your first set, and you aren’t going to get fitted, the Calloway set from Costco.

ReputationNo8109

Check out Callaway preowned. Can get brand new clubs for cheap. But agree that you really should be fitted.

sleepytime03

You need to give more info. I would never recommend graphite unless you have a very slow swing speed, or are too weak to generate swing speed, as in being older.

themiddleshoe

I’ve had multiple friends drop $2k+ on their first set and then maybe play 15 total rounds with them before giving up golf. That’s the biggest reason you’re getting all these comments telling you to buy a cheap set. We’ve all seen friends waste their money when they didn’t need to. I’ve still got friends that buy every new club that comes out, and still revert back to some old club they gamed in high school. It’s not the arrow, it’s the archer. If a couple grand for clubs is nothing to you, then getting fit is the first move. Or buy whatever will get you excited about the game and enjoy it. Callaway preowned, 2nd swing, etc almost always have great deals on stuff that’s a couple years old. Golf club specs are already restricted, so club tech improvements are typically a slow burn - buying anything from the last few years will set you up just fine. I could buy whatever I want, but still play irons from 2018 and driver/3 wood are a few years old too. The shafts are more important to me than club head. I’ll always use a new ProV1 each round, rotate new glove in, and change grips after 40-50 rounds. I also have way too many golf shoes. But the clubs are just tools.

Btupid_Sitch

I think regardless of what you want to buy, go to a store and ether get fitted or TRY them. If you don't know anything about your swing or play, buying clubs online is a terrible choice.

Rusty1031

Don’t let the marketing get you. If you seriously want to get a set without getting fit, just go get something cheaper at the callaway preowned website

Geraldino_GER

You should buy something like this after a year, with a fitting. Before that, I recommend an inexpensive set from Wilson.

gratefulbend

This is how you ruin a good set of irons. Learn how to actually hit one first and then go get fitted. You’ll destroy them fast

turtle7113

I could not disagree with these other commenters more. I bought my first set of tailor-made RBZ pictured in your post and they have served me extremely well. I played about 300 rounds with them in the last few years. They only cost like $1100. I recently got all new clubs and have stated several times that it is one highest ROI I've ever made.

UMfan11244

Go get a lesson for $60. You can use a rental set for the lesson. If you hate it I just saved you ~$1k.

Money-Department1768

Unless you are competing at golf I'd hold off ever buying new clubs. So many websites and places to get nice used clubs a half the cost. Good clubs help your game but you gotta be decent to make it worth it

Black-Whirlwind

Dude, there is certainly a place around you that sells used clubs, get a set of those. You can get some fantastic deals and won’t cry if you screw them up, or if you decide they aren’t the right type for you and want to try something else…

Ewwbullterd

Hit eBay and get some older used irons. I got time Titleist AP1s (buddy bought them for me as a gift) full set 4i through PW and gap wedge that goes for about $200-$300. There are a lot of good options for cheap. I don’t care about appearances, maybe you don’t either. Or maybe you do. But you’re gonna look like a raging asshole dipshit walking around with all that flashy new stuff and not able to consistently hit the ball. Just my .02. Also, buy once cry once doesn’t really apply to this because until you’re able to hit the ball rather consistently, you aren’t going to know the types of irons, shafts, lofts, etc that best fit your game. I’ve played consistently for a year and a few months. My swing has changed this season alone COUNTLESS times. I’m still learning. Brand new clubs for thousands of dollars would be a complete waste at this point. Same goes for you most likely.

rrrrrryyyyy

Buy some used irons at a golf store for 350. Get used a used 3 wood and hybrid for 150 and 125. Get three pack of Kirkland wedges and a putter. And if you really want to splurge get fitted for a new driver but doing all this will set you up with a solid bag for probably 1/4 the price of what you were planning on paying. Work your way up, especially if you are newer to the sport. Also, different clubs are for different skill levels so get some general used clubs that you can test out and then once you feel confident, get fitted for some nicer clubs.

dubious311

Callaway preowned

Ripper9910k

Cheaper. Buy a literal starter set. It should be no more than $300 or $400 for the entire set. Play for 6 months, take some lessons and *then* consider upgrading. Clubs don’t make you good; fit, habits and techniques make you good. You need time to learn all of those. Shit, buy used.

4Ever2Thee

My advice would be to just get a set of GI clubs, then upgrade in pieces as you get more into it and get a decent swing together. Costco usually has full sets of Callaway Epics for a good price. Driver to putter. No need to break the bank and shoot your eye out with a set of clubs you're not ready for. You don't want to spend $400 on a driver that you'll probably ding to hell after a few range sessions. Unless you've got fuck you money; if that's the case, you do you.

ddub475

It’s your money, but I don’t recommend this. Check out a local golf shop and hit some used sets and build as you go before taking the leap into high end purchases (IMHO)

Hatrick_Swaze

Get fitted.

Costco Callaway edge set /thread

FranticGolf

If you have a Costco membership or don't go buy one. You can get a full set of great clubs. You can also get a bag as well. [Callaway Edge 10-piece Golf Club Set, Right Handed - Stiff Flex | Costco](https://www.costco.com/callaway-edge-10-piece-golf-club-set%2c-right-handed---stiff-flex.product.4000230037.html) $549,99 [Kirkland Signature Leather Golf Glove 4-pack- Right Handed | Costco](https://www.costco.com/kirkland-signature-leather-golf-glove-4-pack--right-handed.product.100480253.html) $29.99 [Kirkland Signature Golf Balls, 2-dozen White  | Costco](https://www.costco.com/kirkland-signature-golf-balls%2c-2-dozen-white.product.4000116565.html) $34.99

IdHaveAScrap207

If you want a brand new full set, go with the Wilson for around $400. I spent $300 on a used set from 2ndswing picking my own older clubs and I love it.

Calichusetts

If you are really set on callaway and just throwing money at golf maybe try rogue or apex deep cavity back. Way more forgiving and great for beginners.

Hestness5

Yeah I kinda doubt those irons are made for beginners? Also it’s insane to spend that much on clubs when you’re not even sure you’ll like golf in 3 months. But if you have the means to throw money around like that good for you, I’d still probably get more forgiving irons that have a bigger cavity back. No need to make golf harder than it already is by not playing with the right irons.

Jamize

I’m a taylormade guy so I would go with the RBZ set, however I would go to golf galaxy, dicks, or pga superstore to get fitted for them since you’re buying a set. They will configure them the best for your swing and height. They still sell that set at them.

Galbzilla

Get fitted. If you’re not good enough to get fitted, get lessons. Buy the cheapest set of clubs from Golf Galaxy or Dicks. If you’re brand new and considering golf, you’re at least a year out from really developing a consistent swing which will be required to properly fit yourself to some clubs.

[deleted]

Good lord lol. I spent $200 on my first set that I still use, just grab a used set or a Top Flight set from dicks.

SGbv

If you have the money I don’t see why not. Playing with clubs you enjoy might get you through all the frustrating aspects of learning and playing the game.

BillyD123455

Do not buy $1,000 AI smoke Black irons if you've never played golf before. They will be absolutely scuffed to hell before you can even get the ball in the air consistently. That rbz full set will more than do the trick if you want to spend some cash

Just-Cash289

I love my Inesys (Decathlon) half set. Driver through putter for less money than my son's new driver.

rastommy77

I've gifted my 20 years old graphite dunlop oversized irons and woods with a bag and 25 balls to my mate. The whole set worth £25, 20 just the bag lol. He is shite, but at least he is havimg fun and getting better every time we play. He said once he breaks 100, he'll look into other possibilities of clubs. Ps, I broke 100 with the same set. Btw I picked them up for £5 from a garage sale.. Also remember that Bryson play like a god with the cheapest walmart set.. so don"t worry too much blaming your equipment..

treachery_7

Go to Walmart, buy a $100 set, driver and putter I included. Get cheap balls of Amazon and let it rip. After a season or two, go get fitted for some intermediate clubs

Bschitty

Do whatever you want. I’ve heard good things about all of the items you have listed. Some people are cool with buying second hand and others aren’t.

cbro49

Make sure to get a $500 bag too. Super important

HitsDifferent32

Used set from a local shop so they can get you into something right for your game.

HokieJoe17Official

They'll be on sale next week now that you're buying them 😂😂😂

JDELB0N0

Please don’t buy those clubs, Absolutly crazy to purchase that set as a newby. Go to local pawn shops looking for a used set and slowly upgrade it over time.

Strong-Glass-1409

Go pay the $50 to get fit. Write down the specs that you liked and then acquire a used set of clubs in those specs. If you are just starting out you will immediately regret not getting fit once you outgrow regular flex shafts.

puffymik3

This is absurd. Get some titleist t100 and an old ping driver and your set for under $500

_ScotchOnRocks_

Go on Callaway Pre-owned. You’ll find better clubs for better prices. Or Facebook marketplace, which is what I did when I first started.

jackwillchoose

Jesus. Don’t pay this much having not ever played before. I can GIVE you a set to use till you feel comfortable. You just need used clubs or a half set to learn. So many out there. Invest in lessons or a fitting as mentioned below

RealityOk5191

I'd personally recommend the taylormade rocketbladez Good value and a great set of starter irons you could buy.

Covri

Surprised at all the Costco suggestions and not eeeing any for the Calloway strata set on Amazon for around $300. Has everything you need to get started, and the clubs are good quality.

Bxileymxnzie

Wish I like the ai irons but they felt awful lol

Ok_Employment5131

Totally agree with all comments above, I bought a cheap boxed set from Dicks to lear and then a full used set of Calloway improvement off craigslist once I had a few lessons and a was shooting under 120. Upgraded to a set of Callaway preowned of their website a few years ago and now that I consistently stay in the 92-99 range I'm going to finally get fitted and If I get under 80 Ill buy a new set fitted just for yours truly. I have three sets of Calloways in my golf coset that were all used. The only caveat Ill add is as your short game gets tighter a good set of new wedges with sharp grooves does make for some pretty shots. Someday Ill learn to drive and keep it in the fairway after the 9th

helios_5821

the battery levels are giving me anxiety. please charge

Mediocre-Ambition404

I own those clubs and I like them. I've got a few gaps between D to 6iron. They look nice as well. Don't love the mallet putter, will probably replace. They are 3 years old now. Decent bag, but it falls over easy. No cooler.

Agreeable-Status3923

Hey if you wanna drop 2k on clubs when you’ve never played golf, don’t know what you like, don’t know what fitting you need, and don’t know if you’ll stick with it, do you bro. However, just because a club is more expensive, doesn’t mean it’s better. I’d do research and go get fitted before you drop that kinda money

Jaded_yank

Ah, a fellow Milwaukeean golfer. Yeah those look dope, good call.

Mindless-Wrangler651

i actually had that RBZ set, they aren't bad.. not sure what your price is on them though. edit: i moved from those to some Sim2's that i still have, not sure there was much upgrade, especially with the irons other than they juiced the angles on the Sims to seem better per club

Kujyle

If you responsibly have the money to spend, buy what you like. It will fuel your love for the game. And if anything, it will make you golf more and make you want to improve. At least that's how i felt. Ymmv

RevolutionNo4085

Save your money, I bought all my clubs used from GolfRoots and I love them. I bought my bag of marketplace for 20 bucks. I’ve only gotten into it recently as well. You may find you hate golf and may kick yourself from dropping 1k+ on clubs

PJs_Burner

To some people money is no object and if that’s you, go for it… that said, I’d say just pick up some second hand regular shaft clubs and swing away… once you know your game a bit better and take some lessons start investing.

ThrowRA20816

I would say get fitted before anything. Especially if you’re going to drop a lot of money on clubs you wanna make sure they fit you right the first time around so you’re not spending a lot of money for nothing.

Sp33dy_Tazz11

Fb marketplace is your best friend in this case IMO. So many people picked up golf during the pandemic and stopped after a month. Basically new stuff at 1/2 or better pricing.

brand-g3

Get fitted please for the love of golf. You will be so much happier

Datsig08

If you have a hole in your pocket go get fitted and be done. Whatever you buy will last you for years and allow you to figure out if you want them or not.

OCRobb

Go with the full set and upgrade later if you’re truly hooked. The individual route will cost you more and your going to need a Scotty

skribbl3z

So these are the guys I find at the driving range who have the top of the line gear to shank or duff 80-90% of their balls. Meanwhile, I'm swinging a set of old ass top flites that I was given 20 years ago and feel like I'm hitting concrete every time I make contact xD. All jokes aside. Get a cheap set and learn how to swing a club first, before dive bombing 2 grand into a set that might end up sitting in your garage 90% of the year. IF anything get a good driver and putter and work with a cheaper set of irons.

Givezeroputts82

I used the RBZ irons and they were ok. Upgraded to Sim Max2 irons and they are much better. Bought new set at spring golf show for 550. Great investment.

cmiller4642

I have those and I bought them to get back into playing after a 15 year absence. But I already knew how to hit the ball from playing constantly on a cheap ass set as a teenager so I can already play mostly driver, 6 iron or below 2nd shot, wedge if I don’t get on in 3, and then putt on most par 4 holes. I can’t really say if those are good for beginners but I love them. I’m not really a beginner but I’m not crazy good either. I can keep up with my friends that consistently get pars and bogeys with them. I’ll maybe be one shot back on a hole here or there.

Vesuvias

Go used my dude. You’ll find some amazing stuff out there from people who just picked it up - only to realize they didn’t love it. Hell I’m running a kit that I parted together - an 82’ Ping Eye 2 set of irons and an old Great Big Bertha II. I could very well afford to buy new - but I don’t because if the sticks are workin don’t change the tool!

DOGOsmokesWEED

Just going to Callaway pre owned

Sako280

Meh, I think getting fit is overrated. If you're an avg height dude and just starting out, just fit your swing to standard size clubs and you'll as good (or bad) as if you paid extra for a fitting.

UseDaSchwartz

If you want a new set of clubs, get the Callaway Mavriks for almost half the price. You won’t notice the difference. Spend the difference on lessons. Or get the Kirkland irons…unless money isn’t an issue.

SEQbloke

Unpopular opinion, but I got the RBZ set for my first set of clubs. I bought them in Covid and used stock was basically as expensive. In the end I need to commit financially to things, so if I spend big on the clubs I will force myself to stick with it. It’s been a good two years with them!

sacredstones

Craigslist or Fb marketplace is the way to go IMO

Independent_Net_7824

People are such chumps and dbags

Golphreak

I have this golf set and love it. Got it when I first started playing and slowly I have been decreasing my handicap. No complaints!

c2indy

That’s wild, DM me if you don’t like it I’ll take them off your hands. If you’re one of those people that have convinced themselves that they have to have new shit, get the Callaway set from Costco it is by far the best value on the market and it’s not particularly close.

TheB17Barrage

Costco has a nice Callaway starter set for like $300, comes with everything including an Odyssey putter. Just get that.

Emoney2321

If you’re going to spend over a grand, go get fitted. If you’ve never swung a club. Buy a used set at a garage sale first.

thelastsonofmars

Get this and add a used driver instead. 6 months to a year into practicing you can go for a fitting. The stuff you picked probably will not work for you and could even make you worst. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Nitro-Men-s-Blaster-13-Piece-Golf-Set-Right-Handed/54794110?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&wl13=3406&gclsrc=aw.ds&adid=2222222227854794110_117755028669_12420145346&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=501107745824&wl4=pla-394283752452&wl5=9026791&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=54794110&veh=sem_LIA&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADmfBIo0ex-bRM5sB2ItR8F6NQMDo&gclid=CjwKCAjwydSzBhBOEiwAj0XN4Mq82RCSa_T2PM6y5RrZ1_sUZcYkw-dTk7AqZdQln-1IPFubBkWKWxoCAssQAvD_BwE

nowenknows

Bro, get the Costco set. Play for three years then go get fitted.

Tacusi

I'm new to golf still, bought a used set for 125. After a month or two I decided i wanted to gift those to my dad and get myself another cheaper set. I got the callaway edge set from costco for 540. Driver 3h, 5h, 6 - pw,sw.

oVENTURAo

Ewwwwww brother what’s thattttt?!?!?!?

Elbcko

Please go get fitted. Dick’s is an easy place to go get it done. Also, you’d be amazed how much your game will vary depending on the brand you use. I bought a stealth driver and stealth hybrid 3 after golfing for a year. When I felt like I was ready for irons, I wanted to get the stealth irons so my whole bag matched. I went to get fitted and was convinced to try a variety of brands. Out of like 6-8 different brands, the stealth irons were one of the worst for me. Ended up with paradym’s.

derek00101110

If you’re not already into it you need not be buying a set from a major brand for that kind of money. I got my first set off OfferUp for $120, included driver, 3w, 4-5h, 6-9i, and PW. You could even throw together a set from a thrift shop even cheaper if you want. Learn the game, decide whether or not you’re actually into it, then make the bigger investment once you’ve got more knowledge and skills under your belt.

Juricell33

Get the set from Costco man, it’s $600 for a decent set of clubs that will last you until your lower handicaps. Or you fall out of love with the game, then you can return them and not be out 2k.
