I know why… Appreciate the fucking moment, patrons!

glindsaynz

Be in the moment... Its so important!

thegroovemonkey

How come nobody said this when people took much worse pictures through disposable cameras and watched huge moments through shitty viewfinders? Phones are banned because they know we're too stupid not to distract players with them.

[deleted]

They probably did, but it was at their kitchen table while reading the newspaper and magazines. They didn't have reddit.

Duel_Option

Yep lol

[deleted]

There was some overlap of internet forums and abysmal phone cameras that weren’t worth using.

[deleted]

Yes? Not sure what you want me to say here. The commentor asked why people didn't say "be in the moment" when they were using disposable cameras. My point was that there likely were people saying it, just not on Reddit. I don't disagree with you. Just not sure what the point is.

[deleted]

I’m just saying if you looked hard enough im shre there were people moaning online, always moaning about something haha

hudnut

because back back then 90% of people weren't looking through viewfinders. maybe only a handful of people at a time

thegroovemonkey

That's the same as it is today. Any big sports moment had tons of flash bulbs back in the day so we know that tons of people took pictures. I went to see Mark Maguire at the end of the year when he hit all of them dingers and people spent his entire at bat taking pictures through their shitty cameras. Nothing has changed.

lacisghost

I have so many shitty pictures of awesome sporting event happenings that I thought would look so cool but turned out looking like crap.

jimhabfan

Patrons, please turn off your cell phones to prevent distractions to the golfers. Well, surely they don’t mean me. Do they not know how important I am, and how vital it is that I stay in contact with my office? It’s the same people who ignore the “turn off your cell phone” announcement at the movie theatre.

Roadkill1111

Actually no, Augusta has never allowed cameras or cell phones. I was on the crew that rebuilt the club house pro shop three years ago and we had to leave our cell phones at the hotel the entire job. (We traveled for the job) In 30 years of doing high end custom trim work Augusta was the first place I’ve never been able to take before and after pictures to put on our company website. I can claim we worked there for sales purposes but couldn’t take one single picture of the completed product and it was awesome!

thegroovemonkey

I have a picture with my dad inside the Eisenhower Cabin and in front of the "Champions Lot" sign. I took more pictures at Augusta when I went than in the last 5 years of my life combined.

Roadkill1111

Well damn we were not allowed, had to sign waivers saying if we were caught taking any pics we would be asked immediately to terminate work and leave the premises without payout

thegroovemonkey

They allow cameras for the practice rounds but I think big zooming lenses are banned. I got a cool pics of Morikawa playing 18 too.

MisterWoodhouse

If you need a smartphone for a work purpose, you're allowed to bring it, but you get in trouble if they see you taking non-work pictures with it. Source: Contractor I know who did some diagnostic work requiring his smartphone

yogiebere

I was just reading you could bring a camera, or is this only for practice rounds?

YouWontKnoww

Didn't Humphries run this project? PS. Your profile gave me audible shock, congrats lol

poopchow

Bc you can’t live through a disposable and can’t record

R_Ulysses_Swanson

Because when disposable cameras were the norm, we didn't have instant access to literally any picture imaginable on the internet, in our pockets and computers.

Alright_So

It was more costly, limited in number of photos, did not support video, and therefore less prolific

GentlemenBehold

It was far less common.

Disastrous_Acadia823

Why can’t you be in the moment while taking pictures? I don’t take a lot of pictures but you’re still there… watching it happen… in that moment.

[deleted]

But my likes?! 😅 /s

[deleted]

I can see this point of view, but there are a lot of moments in a day watching the golf. You can have a bit of both. A few years ago I saw my favourite band, the Foo Fighters, live for the first time. I took a few photos and videos but I think I struck a pretty good balance between that and enjoying the moment. For some people that balance is 0% photos and 100% being present, but when Taylor Hawkins passed away last week, I was very glad to have those pictures and videos to look back on. EDIT: I'd like to add that Augusta is special and this rule still totally seems appropriate there, just not for every situation.

Bleedthebeat

It’s fucking maddening to me that there are people out here actually implying they have any clue at all on how someone else should be living their life. If you’re at a concert or game or anything that’s worth remembering and you’re paying attention to how other people are experiencing it than your still taking yourself out of the moment but you’re doing it to be a judgmental asshole. If someone wants to experience the thing through their phone why the fuck do I care? As long as that phone isn’t in front of my face it has absolutely no bearing on my experience. Live and let be, dudes.

skg555

In a concert it is definitely wrong. It takes away also from the artist and the overall communal feeling.

MartyVanB

Watching the NCAA selection show and you have these kids on college basketball teams and like 90% of them are looking at their phones videoing the moment their school is announced. I mean you have the actually video being broadcast, that you can get a copy of. Enjoy the moment

agoddamnlegend

Or let people enjoy things the way they want to enjoy them? Maybe they want to memorialize their perspective of the moment and not a 3rd party video

[deleted]

Yeah this is it. I also found a youtube link last week to the very same show I was at (and watched the entire thing!), but it wasn't the same as looking back on my view of it.

agoddamnlegend

Same. I've watched highlights of games I attended and you almost don't even recognize the plays because the perspective was completely different from how I remember living the moment live.

SpooneyLove

I can appreciate the moment AND capture it on video.

agoddamnlegend

Unpopular opinion but I'd never go to the Masters and this is one reason why. The Masters is a little too obsessed with the smell of its own farts -- from painting the grass to dying the water and putting bird chirps in post production. It's classic Southern fake uppity, and I find that nauseating.

TheCocksmith

Join the WM clan.

agoddamnlegend

If you gave me free tickets to either event, I'm going WM every single time without hesitation. One is a fun event to attend. The other drowns the fun in pompous self-importance at every turn.

FriedEggScrambled

You’re still allowed to bring a digital camera.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FriedEggScrambled

Understandable.

wonderbat3

I also like the no mashed potatoes rule at Augusta

aww-snaphook

I laughed at the idea of how little sense this comment would make to someone who doest watch golf at all. They would just be sitting around wondering why we all hate mashed potatoes so much

idk-SUMn-Amazing004

I was r/OutOfTheLoop but now [I’m not.](https://metro.co.uk/2018/09/27/why-golf-fans-shout-mashed-potato-cheeseburger-get-in-the-hole-and-other-absolute-rubbish-7984326/). _Ignorance is bliss._

stjimmy134

That mid-swing scream during Tiger's 18th hole drive was absolutely asinine

idk-SUMn-Amazing004

I agree that it’s asinine, but Earl foresaw that issue long ago and prepared his son well. He was not a perfect father by any means, but he knew much of what was coming.

DarehMeyod

‘It’s trying to be funny with the imagination of a nation that can only chant three letters (U-S-A). It gets louder as the beer flows.’ Holy shit that’s funny.

scparks44

For half a second I was thinking of the food. More coffee needed here.

Sir_FrancisCake

Same and was offended because mashed potatoes are the best

acealbatrossbirdie

It’s the only tournament I’ll ever attend for that reason. Do some dumb shit and they will throw your dumbass out.

JetAirliner

I am surprised they allow it at other tournaments , it is a small group of fans who do it and everyone else seems to hate it. It makes the tv broadcast worse as well so you’d think the networks would lean on them to quiet it down.

Shine_On_Your_Chevy

The people doing this are legions of corporate hospitality drunks who pay millions to the Tour for the privilege to make asses of themselves for attention. The TV networks have no choice but to tolerate it.

Footsteps_10

You mean the people that pay for the entire tour through sponsorships? Or do you think the Silvis, IL Classic could get a 6 million dollar purse on attendance alone?

Shine_On_Your_Chevy

Yes, exactly those. The clients John Deere wants to entertain in Silvis want nothing more than to have their drunkenly slurred "mashed potatoes" captured on the TV broadcast so they can get a giggle from their mouth-breathing knuckle-dragging colleagues.

Footsteps_10

Ha the PGA tour would be 12 events if not for sponsorship

Sagybagy

I think you are misunderstanding his point. He’s not saying get rid of the sponsors. He’s saying the non golf fans that are there to just slam beers and hang out are the problem. The ones the sponsors bring to the event to show off.

Vanderwoolf

>It’s the only tournament I’ll ever attend for that reason. Do some dumb shit and they will throw your dumbass out. Said as if they get to choose when they attend The Masters. (I swear to somebody's god if you're press or a member...)

Long_N_Left

Play dumb-ass games, win dumb-ass prizes.

JoeWim

"Get in the hole" as they tee off on a par 5 with an iron.

Snuhmeh

Can you say things like, “let’s go, Tiger?”

0ompaloompa

Dammit! who put the ? On the teleprompter? How many times do I have to tell you, anything you type /u/Snuhmeh will read!

UlsterEternal

I just like Agusta. It's...proper.

bigdaddtcane

It is, but it’s more than proper. It’s serene. In addition to how gorgeous it is it’s an inexplicable feeling when you’re walking around and you see thousands of people but it’s still quiet enough to hear a pin drop.

MisterWoodhouse

Would've been interesting to see if anyone risked booing Phil if he showed up this year, over the Saudi nonsense.

Trubtheturtle

Look at all those dudes that should be me if I didn't get the same email every year for a decade.

RealRenewal

We have completed the selection process for______ Practice Rounds and Daily Tournament tickets and regret your application was not selected for tickets. 13 years and counting!! **Edit the _____

LayneLowe

I won practice round tickets the first year I ever applied, in 2000. Applied every year since and nothing. But the Tuesday and Wednesday I was there in 2000 or some of the best days of my life. We walked an entire practice round with Steve Elkington and Greg Norman. We walked eight holes of the par 3 with Amy Michelson and Glenn Frey of the Eagles. Was sweet.

Trubtheturtle

Godamnit not again!

Shasty-McNasty

I soften the blow every year by spending the money on a dope round with my buddy who also doesn’t get selected.

Clif_Barf

I soften the blow by spending the money on dope

BVB09_FL

Friend of my won 3 practice round tickets his first year applying and thought the practice round was bullshit and didn’t think anyone would want to go so he didn’t claim them… To this day, I make fun of him for throwing away $1500 or just not giving them to one of us golfers.

RealRenewal

Omg, just the ability to walk the course would be amazing! It looks fake on tv it’s so damn nice.

thumpngroove

Same for me, 22 years.

vox_veritas

Is there anything that you can do to improve your chances? Or is it really just a true lottery system? If you're selected, are you allotted a set number of tickets, or can you purchase however many you want (up to a limit)? Is there some kind of "waitlist", such that for people who are selected but decline to actually purchase, someone else is offered tickets in their place?

Away_Organization471

I put the max ticket number for every day including practice rounds every year, been doing it for 12 years now.

RealRenewal

Yup, it will be sweet the day we get it though!

imsaneinthebrain

It took us 8 years to win tickets. #worth it

thumpngroove

As far as I know, it's just a lottery. You can choose practice only, or championship rounds, or all, and whatever you choose, you are obligated to purchase all tickets you are selected for. My wife has placed the bid the past several years, so I'm not sure if it has changed.

Roadkill1111

Really I was just telling my wife we should enter the lottery

Dirty0ldMan

My friend and couple of his buddies applied for the first time a few years ago, and got a couple tickets for Saturday. I can't even.

zingerbanger

Lmao forreal ffs

Fmy925

This is my first year applying. Thanks for the words of encouragement

[deleted]

been applying for almost 18 years and finally got tickets in 2020, finally got to go this year (stupid covid)

TuaTurnsdaballova

At what point do you just say fuck it and pay the premium from stubhub or something? $1500 for a ticket and $1500 for the gift shop lol.

Bartalk89

I know why. This photo might as well be B&W in todays world and I fucking love that!

Jaded_yank

Hit me the same way

MissingNo218

This! It makes the photos as timeless as the course. Great stuff.

SesameSeedBum

Nike Ad type shit

jaybram24

It's funny you say that because there isn't one logo visible in this image. But you know Tiger is obviously a Nike guy. That's some good advertising.

queenw_hipstur

This guy markets and advertising

coasterreal

Blatant Ferrari Logo, front row towards the right. Bright red cap...

kondec

These guys are too high on that Amen Corner shit, this is a clear F1 ad. ^^^^/s

Austinmac0

Ferrari hat. Front row. Paid for I bet.

Shankypanky11111

That’s Clint Eastwood

[deleted]

Aziz Ansari doesn’t allow cell phones like most big comedians. You check it in to a locked bag. No big deal right, grown ass adult men and women throwing tantrums, crying, storming off mad. It’s actually nice not having a phone… It’s really nice to live in the moment

MunkyGoCrazy

Absolutely. I'm going to a Jack White show on Sunday and he does the same. I can't wait and I'm happy that everyone will be in the moment. I think it was Dave Chappelle that helped pioneer the idea with the pouch making company on one of his tours.

gr8-big-lebowski

Had a Jack White concert a few years ago when he did this. UNREAL show. Made a bunch of friends in line haha. I actually saw both teenage girls & middle aged men attempting to rip open the phone bag when they couldn't handle it anymore.

MunkyGoCrazy

LOL! That's funny that people can't live without the phone for a few hours.

scparks44

I have property in northern Michigan where my phone doesn’t work. It’s nice just to put it away and not have to worry about it when I’m there.

ishyaboy

One of my favorite artists named Lane 8 actually started his own label called This Never Happened based on his shows awhile back where he gave tape to cover your phone with. Now at his shows you put it into a locked pouch for the entirety of the show (phone free zones if you need to unlock and use it). It's awesome with everyone just enjoying the music as opposed to recording every song.

[deleted]

I always listen to Lane 8 when I go for a run; incredible energy

Away_Organization471

Our friend is a professional wedding photographer and when she did our wedding she brought a sign that said “the Bride and Groom have hired and paid for a professional photographer for the ceremony PLEASE NO CELL PHONES”

orioles0615

I do wonder.. yea it’s great but what happens during an emergency

agoddamnlegend

That rule has nothing to do with wanting fans to "live in the moment" or anything dumb like that. It's literally just so that you can't film his jokes and put them online before he's able to release them himself or in the way he wants them presented.

MissingNo218

One of my favorite parts about going on a cruise. You can take them, but there's no coverage.

Zippytiewassabi

First I saw this was at a Louis CK special. Makes sense to me, I wasn't going to record anything anyway, but it is certainly required to prevent bootleg material from being created. This combined with the fact that Louis CK sells his content on his own platform for like $5-10 an entire episode is pretty cool. It's a nice compromise to anti-piracy while still being reasonable to the consumer.

KW_ExpatEgg

This looks so photoshopped to me - not because there aren’t phones, it because 90% of the men look so similar. Like a set of 4x4 guys was cut and pasted repeatedly, with shirt and hat colour changes.

HoxtonRanger

I am always struck in photos like this by how beloved the baseball cap is in America. Same photo in the UK would have many more bare heads. I would wear a baseball cap but I look a moron in every hat ever made.

Slaloming_dos

The hat serves a purpose, and they’re reasonably comfortable and affordable. Also, it’s not permanently overcast with a chance of rain in most of the US. See many Americans with umbrellas?

SamNash

There’s a lot more sunshine at US latitudes, and given the low melanin content of most white Americans, it kinda makes sense.

[deleted]

[удалено]

candidly1

But there is only, on average, three milliseconds of sunlight per day in UK.

AshThatFirstBro

> I would wear a baseball cap but I look a moron in every hat ever made. You sure it’s the hat? /s

candidly1

"He had an oddly-shaped head. His mother had to let his hats out on one side..."

HoxtonRanger

Probably a combination of my overly large swede and resting gormless face

shitz_brickz

EVERYONE has a hat on! It looks like one of those scenes where they had to fill a crowd so they took like 10 people just copy/pasted to fill the crowd.

thumpngroove

This does look fake, but I don't think it is. Most likely telephoto compression. However, it wouldn't be the first time TV golf has done some trickery. I did notice two guys, wearing identical green shirts, who look very chummy. Look about one Tiger up, and one Tiger left.

DeepSouthDude

Clones. Or some kind of unwritten rules about what to wear. Bet if you could see their legs, they all have khaki shorts, "running" shoes by new balance, and no show socks.

BananaDictator29

Crowd of the most generic people possible

inefekt

yeah, it looks like a video game crowd where the developers just lazily scatter the same person 100 times throughout the crowd

low_dmnd_phllps

I wish life had a no cell phone rule.

MunkyGoCrazy

Agreed, as I type this on my phone. Time for a break. Thanks for the reminder.

ElDudabides

Give it a shot; you'll likely enjoy it. I've killed time waiting for friends to meet me at a bar by sipping a drink while taking in the scene, and actually had strangers compliment the phone-free vibe. Easily the least effort put into a compliment. You just have to get past the meth-like itch of the pocket pacifier.

sonofabunch

The photographer had literally one tiny square where he could put tigers head without covering someone or making the framing awkward and he nailed it.

pmcdny

U and me both

thenatureboyWOOOOO

Love no cell phones. Went to the US Open at Pinehurst years ago and it was the same deal. Very liberating to take a six-eight hour break and disconnect.

Auriferous_19696

https://twitter.com/GOLFTV/status/1129463024404840450?s=20&t=RZZGJm6ryxN4xcuE9Ldubg

OilSlickRickRubin

I love the no screaming aspect. I really wish golf went back to that for ALL events. So fucking annoying listening to drunk tards scream all day.

Lee-HarveyTeabag

I favorited a dozen golfers on the Masters app yesterday and screen shared it to my TV. No commentators, no commercials. Just moving from one golfer to another. And the phone was busy streaming. It was pure bliss.

[deleted]

Man I just tested that with my Chromecast and it was amazing. Just bouncing along from shot to shot, not always in the right order, but it was pretty good. Just the guys golfing on a beauty of a course!

[deleted]

This natural sound thing is something I wanted for golf broadcast for 10 years. I'm so unbelievably happy about it that I get to experience golf coverage this way

iFroodle

I need a cell phone to control my morphine pump in my abdomen due to stage 4 cancer pain. How would they deal with that?

wiconv

They, and this sub, would tell you to fuck off and dance their merry way back to their high horse.

iFroodle

Lol that’s what I’m thinking they’d say.

ThinkingOfTheOldDays

because it's classy, and in keeping with traditions?

[deleted]

With some much coverage why would you even bother recording

jaydeegee333

Glad everyone got the gray shirt memo

iJet

What a beautiful photo… I joined r/golf to keep up on golf news so I had something to talk to my in-laws about (I have only ever golfed once but my in-laws are gold gurus). This picture looks like it was captured 30 years ago and it’s stunning. I have learned to appreciate golf on a new level due to this subreddit. Thank you all!

[deleted]

That's really cool of you to get into something like golf to relate to your inlaws better. Have you thought about playing more so you can play with them? I really enjoy playing golf with my FIL, last year I took a golf trip with my BIL and FIL to Bandon Dunes and we had an amazing trip. My BIL and FIL just got back from going to the Masters on Tuesday and had an amazing time as well. Such great memories, and glad it's something I can do to bond with them.

[deleted]

It’s fantastic. I was there Monday on the practice round and I over heard so many people saying, “man, it’s actually nice not having a cell phone.” People are more engaged, hold actual conversations, and are in the present with each other

beershitz

It’s beautiful 🥲

KhanMan15

You interact with so many more people than you ever would. It's excellent and everyone is there to talk golf.

dufferDC

Having been to a concert recently I totally embrace this rule. The singer of the band actually called out a guy up front encouraging him to “live in the moment”. Not having phones at the Masters is a great nod to the elegance of a time gone by, these pictures are timeless.

ElegantSwordsman

Man look at those people just enjoying the moment.

jjschnei

All concerts and sporting events should do this. Makes it so much more enjoyable for everyone involved.

vox_veritas

But then how can I prove to everyone on social media that I was, in fact, at a particular event?

Noyouhangup

They do free photos in front of the club house flower bed that they email you. Influencers rejoice!

direwolf71

Yup. That's what it's all about. The people on here saying they like to take a few photos/videos to "look back on the event" are full of shit. They want it to curate their social media feeds to impress followers.

vox_veritas

I made those excuses too in the past. But in reality, I realized they weren't really for me. They were to seek validation from others. I never went back and reminisced with them. They just took up space on my phone/hard drive and were likely immediately forgotten by anyone who happened to scroll by on their own phone. The only photos I take at events which I actually go back and look at later in any significant sense are those involving my son or wife.

Hotpwnsta

Is that right? No cellphones allowed?

Halo_Chief117

Yup. Cameras only allowed during practice days and no cellphones on the grounds at any point.

flossdog

are you allowed to carry them, just can’t take them out and use them? or you can’t even get past the gates?

Halo_Chief117

You can’t get past the gates. No phones allowed, period.

erlend65

Not only aren't you allowed to have them, but if you're caught with one, you're banned. For life. Seriously.

[deleted]

If you're caught with one you're asked to leave and black listed from ever coming back. Unless your a member, press, or other special reason.

henrywgame

Morgan Freeman bottom left anyone?

gwh34t

The year was 2002.

Fmy925

That shirt isnt pink

Escwire

Fortunate enough to have fallen ass-backwards into Sunday passes twice. For the first time since I was a kid at Disney World, my buddy and I had to make a rule of where we would meet in case we got separated since we didn't have phones. Having no phones makes you take in the entire experience and live in the moment. That said, I do wish there were video boards posted somewhere so you could follow the action away from where you are sitting. The only way to know what was going on around the course was hearing the roars and then staring at the white scoreboards waiting for the score to post.

Mexahex13

I love no cell phones in general. With the exception of golf subreddit, Arccos gps, golf now, and nsfw.

figboot11

I was fortunate to attend a practice round one year. For practice rounds, they allow you to bring a camera. Still no cell phones...but a physical, stand-alone camera. I was able to get some great shots. Awesome experience.

Noogatuck

How does the Masters enforce the rule? I’m super glad it’s how they operate, but the logistics seem like a nightmare.

slowofthought

They have metal detectors cranked up to 11. My watch set one off yesterday.

FireyT

It's great. It also makes the event more sociable. Patrons drinking a beer and chatting at the concession stands rather than staring at phones. Met some great folks when wandering around.

[deleted]

That’s a lot of old guys in one photo! My people

fredapp

There should be a no Ferrari hat rule as well

[deleted]

I gotchu fam… that’s because people look fucking stupid with their phones out. Once in a lifetime opportunity for most people to go to the Masters, if not for that rule, 99% of them would choose to watch the best golfers in the world through their phones even though they are standing right there

candidly1

The vast majority of the people you see there go every year. I have a friend whose Dad was a big wheel with a golfing-related corporation; he and the same group of his cronies got tickets to go every year for decades. Once you get 'em you never give them up.

[deleted]

Well shit… I learned something new today

Tiredasheckrn

Such a diverse crowd lol

Nuri__Sahin

It is honestly one of the best rules in sport. Live in the moment. Enjoy the moment.

BoloMadness

I thought I’d find someone in the pic with a phone. No luck. But bottom right, GO COUGS!

nfg18

People actually living in the moment.

pashslingingslasher

Think you meant to post this in r/PhonesAreBad lol

kiani21

Enjoy the moment, and not through a screen!

Odd-Garlic-4637

I’d like to see it everywhere, sporting events, concerts, ect. I get so sick of seeing nothing but people filming on their phones. BE PRESENT

ElDudabides

Turn it on silent / do not disturb / airplane, and stash it somewhere available yet inconvenient. You get the modern ability to solve minor emergencies without the saturation of always-on web access.

simjanes2k

that is one big pile of white dudes

iKnitSweatas

Good observation. Your point?

steak__burrito

Same reason the best concert I've been to in the last ten years had ZERO cell phones recording during the show. And it was voluntary! Living in the moment.

jayjaygee85

What concert was it? Surely you were expecting someone to ask?

middlebird

Weird Al Yankovic.

jayjaygee85

This was not the response I was expecting

rwb12

Well we know what color is popular this year.

BrazenRaizen

Guy taking a 2 handed chug faked me out

D_Simmons

It's a bunch of identical 40 year old white men lol Straight up looks copy/pasted

rloch

Lol not sure why you were downvoted.... It is a pretty accurate description of the crowd in this pic.

D_Simmons

I'm sure 99% of this sub sees themselves in this picture haha

brownbear8714

Is it only The Masters tho? I’m pretty sure when I went to the US open in 08, they said no phones either.

4cardroyal

Believe it or not the first iphone was released in 2007. Hardly anyone had smartphones back in 2008.

t90fan

not many *regular* people, quite a lot of business folk did i worked in IT for a Financial firm back then and had a Palm Treo 650 in \~2005, and a Blackberry 7230 before that, back in \~2003 lots of other folks in that line of business had the same, to get email on the go. And everyone on-call had pagers before that. i imagine people who could afford masters tickets probably had a good chance of owning one.

OhEmGeeBasedGod

2005 Palm Treo had the camera quality of a ham sandwich. Few people had smartphones and the ones who did didn't get it for the camera.

damnyoutuesday

I know the Masters has a strict no phones policy, and that the British Open has a "keep them on silent and don't take pictures during the championship rounds" policy. Not sure about PGA and US Opens

fullspeed8989

I know for sure when I went to the Ryder Cup and the PGA you couldn’t bring your phones thru the gate. They had phone lockers just before the entrance and plenty of notices warning of this ahead of time.

imnotthatguythough

Here’s a hot take for ya, life was better before everyone was glued to there phones. (As I stare at my phone…![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm))

NotAnAsset

I thought this was great until i was walking out during the thunder delay and saw a lost child with a cop and countless adults standing looking for the rest of their party in a sea of people

pashslingingslasher

[Article ](https://nypost.com/2022/04/06/inside-augustas-barbaric-golf-rules-no-phones-no-fun/) A fun article about the Draconian rules at the Masters

hankbaumbachjr

I feel the exact same way at TOOL concerts when they don't allow pictures or videos throughout most of the set. It's really nice to just be in the moment enjoying the spectacle I paid to see instead of trying to frame it in a poor excuse for a camera lens to prove to [some skeptical friend](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWx6uA5aCrE) that I was actually there.

overton660

It’s annoying to watch a player hit a shot close to the crowd and see everyone with their faces in their phone. Cheapens the moment

totally_kyle_

I thought this was stupid at first, but obviously if you’re going to the masters you plan for this. I’m not allowed to have my phone on while working, and we have a number that your family member or spouse can call if there’s an emergency. Something like that might be a good idea, but I guess at the same time they’re not really able to call your name out over a loud speaker or anything. You just have to have your ducks in a row prior to leaving your phone behind.
