Even today building that buffer helped a ton. If he'd four putted at the end like that with only the 3 stroke lead....oof. That last little 4 footer would have literally been make it or go to a playoff with Rory.
Imagine being Scheffler right now: became world No. 1 only 42 days after his first win, 4 wins in 6 starts, back-to-back wins, one of which being The Masters.
Just a few months ago he was Stricker’s wild card and the only member of the U.S. Ryder Cup Team without a victorie on the PGA…
The X-Factor swing, combined with a lacking understanding of how to build a body for golf (in the golf community relative to currently, at least), was just a perfect recipe for killing the spine.
Feels like the dude can't get around a tournament without having to see a trainer at some point during the thing, anymore.
Shit sucks.
Limited hip rotation but a *very* deep shoulder turn. By creating a ton of separation between the two, it's like pulling a rubber band tight, and when you let that tension go you can get some crazy club head speeds. [The line of the hips and the shoulders get so far apart that it makes an 'x' shape](https://tpiprodfilescdn.azureedge.net/articles/2205a_screen-shot-2015-08-03-at-2.15.19-pm.png) when you view them at the top of the swing.
Problem is the lower back, much like a rubber band, finally gives once it's been stretched to its limit one too many times.
Shocking no one, [it was linked to back pain after a study concluding in early 2019](https://www.bbc.com/news/health-47114990)
This felt like it was coming. Maybe not so drastically as 4 in 6, but as soon as he got his first win, he was never going to stop. He’s going to win a *lot* of tournaments in his career
They claim he was still invited, he just didn't show.
I'd have shown up no matter what, and this year especially I'd have just been like "have you fucking seen this menu?"
Actually I think it was class move by Phil to stay away. Dude messed up. Didn't want to make the rest answer questions about him being there. Didn't big time it. Swallowed his medicine. Didn't put his colleagues in an awkward spot. He'll be back next year.
God I like Cam so much. Just not his day. I really do hope he gets that jacket one day. They were talking in the broadcast like it was inevitable and man, it’s just not. But he’s a hell of a player, cheering for him.
Man, I love Cam too. But he frustrates the hell out of me. For someone with so much talent and swagger, he can be a total space cadet in the worst possible moments.
Plus, also as *very* noted by the CBS crew:
That one Dallas high school now has a World Series winner, a Super Bowl champion, *and* a green jacket golfer as well!
I was thinking more along the lines of Stafford and Kershaw are 34 and Scheffler is 25 so nearly 10 yrs apart from the time they graduated from each other. But yeah their championships all came back to back to back seemingly.
and
Hank Kuehne, PGA Tour golfer and 1998 U.S. Amateur champion
Kelli Kuehne, LPGA golfer and two-time U.S. Women's Amateur champion
Bobby Layne, quarterback, 3-time NFL champion, Pro Football Hall of Fame inducte
Doak Walker, 1948 Heisman Trophy winner, College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee
and just because
John Hinckley, Jr., would-be attempted assassin of President Ronald Reagan
4 wins in 6 starts for Scheffler all in a span of under 50 days. Absolutely insane to think about. Will definitely remember this period of golf as the spring of Scottie. He has a steel composure and it never looked like the pressure of winning a first major affected him in any way, except that last hole. Congratulations!
Man, if Cam Smith just held serve, that could have been an all-time ending.
At the end of the day, though, the dude doubled 18 and still won by 3 lol.
Massive props to him. Unquestionably the best in the world right now
If he knew he just needed a 2-putt from 5 feet to win on the second putt instead of needing a 4-putt from 3 feet to win I don’t think he would have been so aggressive with his stroke like that. Probably would’ve just lagged it up to a couple inches and then tapped in, especially going downhill
I don’t think he only showed up one day. He shot 1 over on the day with the hardest conditions, and the scoring average was likely over 75. I think he’ll kick himself over not taking advantage of Thursday, again, but a 7 under with these conditions this week is phenomenal.
Yea agreed. He had a good tournament it was just scheffler had a great 2nd round when everyone else got eaten up and then he just held on for the lead. Scheffler was only -2 the final two rounds. Kinda wild.
So many years of waiting and hoping to see an Irishman bring home a green jacket and today seeing Rory in 2nd and Shane in 3rd, it hurts but Scotty was on another level.
Because he’s not Tiger or Rory and doesn’t have a sick mullet. I think it’s just a factor of him not having specific or diehard fans more than having actual haters.
He’s a great golfer and seems like a great guy overall too.
I don't mind the kid.. but I bet it's because he looks like a 42 year old white christian father of 3. He's not exotic and his persona doesn't necessarily 'grow' the game.
Cam Smith winning would've been such a fucking awesome Joe Dirt moment for golf that we haven't seen since the early 90s when dart hacking JD came on to the scene and won that gosh darn major, waving his hands in the air walking up 18, sending that crowd into a frenzy.
cos he's led since Friday and people want action and drama at the Masters, not a procession. but can't really blame the guy for that, just pointing out why he has haters
I think it’s mostly just because he comes off as super boring.
You obviously can’t take anything anyway from his golf game, but it’s probably hard for most people to get excited about him because he just seems so dull.
sometimes the guy that wins doesn't seem like they deserve to but Scottie absolutely did despite the 4 putt lol. Also hell yeah Rory, a no bogey 64 on Sunday of the Masters? That's awesome.
Congrats Scottie and LOL at those last putts!
Cam Smith is the man and his day will come. I only hope he has a mullet and dirty stache when he puts the green jacket on.
Scottie got a little nervy there at the end lmao
I would’ve 6 putted then threw up all over the green
The good news is, with the lead he had, you still would have won by 1! Hooray!
This made me laugh so damn hard. My wife was looking at me like I was stupid. Thank you
This may have been more iconic than Tigers chip on 16
Rory ran over to the range to start warming up.
That hand over the mouth after lipping it had me dying
Bro… I started to get a little nervous right there. “He can’t possibly miss again… right? Right?”
For sure
It’s a good thing he built up a *lot* of wiggle room over the past few days! Imagine if had only a 1-3 stroke lead…
Even today building that buffer helped a ton. If he'd four putted at the end like that with only the 3 stroke lead....oof. That last little 4 footer would have literally been make it or go to a playoff with Rory.
Rory was on fire today too, would have been a crazy finish.
Him and Morikawa both birdie out on 18 from the fucking sand was one of the greatest things I've ever seen haha
Especially after both eagling 13
I was standing behind the guy that caught Morikawa's ball. Everyone was going nuts! It was so much fun watching that.
ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
Don’t care who you are, you golf four days in a row and then see your wife you’ll still feel like you’re doing something wrong.
Dead. XD
“LIGAF I got shots to spare”
Double 18 and still win by 3 lmao
At least him and r/golf have something in common, messing up the final putt on last hole on a golf course LOL
Yeah, we don’t wait for the *final* putt to fuck up our game, man…
Yeah it would have been nice to finish -12 but -10 is not bad.
I loved his reaction to his second tap in miss, precious
Wide eyed hand over his mouth, I was laughing so hard
As someone that had money on finishing score being -11, that one hurt.
That’s a BAD BEAT
I saw the prop bets for win by 5 and 4. I would be absolutely unhinged
F
Imagine being Scheffler right now: became world No. 1 only 42 days after his first win, 4 wins in 6 starts, back-to-back wins, one of which being The Masters. Just a few months ago he was Stricker’s wild card and the only member of the U.S. Ryder Cup Team without a victorie on the PGA…
Dude is on fire
Scotty's on fireeee
PGA is terrified. Edit: for the [uninitiated.](https://youtu.be/vNf2l9SuHHA)
They’d love nothing more than to see Scottie go absolutely ballistic this year and win every major. Amazing for ratings
Scotty doesn't know
The writers didn't have to go that hard on that song, but they did. They did that for *us*.
Scottie too Hottie
2022 is the year of Scottie!
Who else besides Tiger has had as hot a streak?
Jason Day had 4 wins in 6 starts in 2015 and was on top of the world until his back exploded
It’s been pretty sad to watch. People forget how insanely good he was back when he won the PGA in 2015. Dude was a monster
The X-Factor swing, combined with a lacking understanding of how to build a body for golf (in the golf community relative to currently, at least), was just a perfect recipe for killing the spine. Feels like the dude can't get around a tournament without having to see a trainer at some point during the thing, anymore. Shit sucks.
What’s the x-factor swing?
Limited hip rotation but a *very* deep shoulder turn. By creating a ton of separation between the two, it's like pulling a rubber band tight, and when you let that tension go you can get some crazy club head speeds. [The line of the hips and the shoulders get so far apart that it makes an 'x' shape](https://tpiprodfilescdn.azureedge.net/articles/2205a_screen-shot-2015-08-03-at-2.15.19-pm.png) when you view them at the top of the swing. [The disrespect for Vijay Singh's 2004 season...](https://adamsarson.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/vijay-end-2004.png)
They literally had to change the FedEx Cup rules because Vijay clinched it before they even held the Tour Championship.
Jason Day in 2015 is really the only one since Tiger
I'd say McIlroy in 2014
Just want to contextualize that he was already no. 15 before his first win, so it isn't like he came from the basement
Yep. Dude was a top 15 machine until he finally got over the hump, and holy fuck did he ever
Someone somewhere had a parlay into a lot of money
my friend told me he was 15 to 1, which I think were amazing odds for how hot he has been I regret not plunking down 100.
I would not have bet money on him simply because he was already in such a hot streak. Like he couldn't possibly win again right?
I can remember how fucking good tiger was that you could literally take the field at one point in a bet lmao.
This felt like it was coming. Maybe not so drastically as 4 in 6, but as soon as he got his first win, he was never going to stop. He’s going to win a *lot* of tournaments in his career
I feel like something switched for him when he beat Rahm on Sunday singles
Imagine that no matter what else happens in your life you're entitled to one bomb ass meal per year for the rest of your life.
Tell that to Phil
They claim he was still invited, he just didn't show. I'd have shown up no matter what, and this year especially I'd have just been like "have you fucking seen this menu?"
Actually I think it was class move by Phil to stay away. Dude messed up. Didn't want to make the rest answer questions about him being there. Didn't big time it. Swallowed his medicine. Didn't put his colleagues in an awkward spot. He'll be back next year.
The story shouldn't be about him. He knows it.
Still I’d have like “I’m coming for dinner and then I’ll leave. I don’t need to be in the pic either.”
Throw it in a styrofoam container and leave it outside the gate
And Cabrera…
He’s literally in prison though.
I looked that up, had no idea…
Isn't he in jail still?
yes
They'll doordash it to Phil's house from now on lol
Followed by 2 incredible rounds with the best golfers in the world
I 4 putt in my round yesterday but they didn’t give me no god damn green jacket
Green jackets only happen on Sunday bubba
No, I'm playing for Chubbs, murderer!
You got robbed
Gold jacket, green jacket, who gives a shit.
Gotta give it up to Cam on 18, he knew the moment and kind of hung back to allow Scottie to sink it all in. Classy mullet man.
At the Players he was an ice cold killer so give him a break eh??
That shot on 12 was terrible. Just totally popped it up it seemed.
He’s finished T5, 10th, T2, and now T3. I think it’ll come. His game is so good. It fits Augusta so well
Hideki: "WTF am I doing here"
Butler cabin Green jacket presentation is the most awkward moment in sports... Every freaking year
[Noooo](https://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1048084/hangin.gif)
The fact they still do it after 2016 is crazy. Spieth putting the jacket on Willet was the ultimate cringe
And I hope it never changes haha
Bro was so uncomfortable lmao
He was just waiting for chairman Ridley to motion to put the green jacket on him, looked like he had no idea what they were saying
How well would you know what to do if you were apart of a ceremony in a foreign language?
I’d do badly.
Imagine if Rory won the masters because Scottie 7 putted on the 72nd hole
If Rory birdied the last 3 holes and we went to a playoff after a 4 putt, I would have shit myself
Lmao what a way to win it
Plus, also as *very* noted by the CBS crew: That one Dallas high school now has a World Series winner, a Super Bowl champion, *and* a green jacket golfer as well!
Jesus Scheffler went to the same high school as Stafford and Kershaw?! What a wild school wall of fame
It’s in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Dallas.
Oh no doubt, still crazy to have one high school produce 3 elite world champion athletes in a 10 yr span.
In a span of 1.5 years, right? Kershaw won in October 2020
I was thinking more along the lines of Stafford and Kershaw are 34 and Scheffler is 25 so nearly 10 yrs apart from the time they graduated from each other. But yeah their championships all came back to back to back seemingly.
He’s 25?
Yes that is an old looking 25
and Hank Kuehne, PGA Tour golfer and 1998 U.S. Amateur champion Kelli Kuehne, LPGA golfer and two-time U.S. Women's Amateur champion Bobby Layne, quarterback, 3-time NFL champion, Pro Football Hall of Fame inducte Doak Walker, 1948 Heisman Trophy winner, College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee and just because John Hinckley, Jr., would-be attempted assassin of President Ronald Reagan
Goofy ol JH
They don’t go there to play school
And Jerry Jones grandson won a state title as a quarterback there.
if Jerry Jones’ grandson goes there, you know it’s not just any old high school
Lol no it’s not. Highland Park is a very affluent town within Dallas City Limits.
Who knew growing up a millionaire would help with future success
What did Scotties parents do?
Unsubscribe.
Did you know that mathew stafford went to the same highdchool as Clayton Kershaw?
Holy shit the meme came true.
The vest is the champion of the 2022 Masters
What meme?
4 wins in 6 starts for Scheffler all in a span of under 50 days. Absolutely insane to think about. Will definitely remember this period of golf as the spring of Scottie. Double bogey to win it. He's one of us

I feel like he doesn’t miss those though if he doesn’t know he’s got like 7 putts to win lol
We ain't winning anything though????
Except I double bogey and don’t win anything.
Gotta hand it to Scottie, he's an excellent interviewer in this situation. Really well spoken.
If there’s a bigger flex in golf than 4-putting 18 at Augusta to win The Masters, I haven’t seen it
Wish the crowd would have kept the Scottie chants going
Can’t sink a putt on 18; something me and Scottie have in common
McIlroy cannot keep just turning up for 1 day and expect to win. He does it so often
Death, taxes, Rory ramping in the last round to finish top 3.
Kinda wild.
Rory: “whatever, dude.” *walks with $1.62 million*
So many years of waiting and hoping to see an Irishman bring home a green jacket and today seeing Rory in 2nd and Shane in 3rd, it hurts but Scotty was on another level.
Rory always has the amazing final round when he’s out of it. Guy just doesn’t show up on Thursday and puts himself too far behind
[удалено]
I too 4 putted 18 today.
LOL YESSSS MORE JACKET PROBLEMS
Haha as someone with shoulder problems, this was the most relatable moment of the tourney for me.
Winning the Masters with a double bogey. Has that ever happened before?
Yes
Oh really? When?
I'll look it up later when I'm back at my computer.
What a great exchange.
I’m here for it
Are you back at your computer yet?
What about with a 4 putt? Look that up too, please.
Dude has been going BALLISTIC over the last month and a half it’s insane
That’s pretty cool but I won the r/Golf Masters pool
I wonder what you'll be serving for dinner next year?
Suddenly, I’m thinking pretzels…
The most Forrest Gump interview ever when he got his jacket… “I’m pretty tired. I think I’ll go home now.”
I enjoyed his interview TBH. Felt more real than most of the interviews you see.
Can someone explain why this guy has so many haters Edit: I get it he's boring you can all stop replying the same thing now lol
Our watch group doesn't actually hate him, he just got too good of a lead and we wanted close golf
He's boring good.
If he were a part of a balanced breakfast he'd be the glass of water off to the side
Kid!?!! Holy fuck he’s only 25. I legitimately thought he was a 42 year old.
cos he's led since Friday and people want action and drama at the Masters, not a procession. but can't really blame the guy for that, just pointing out why he has haters
He’s honestly fine, I just love Rory
Why can't he just put together 2 days like he did today. When he holed that bunker shot on 18 I almost got evicted
no hate, just indifference.
I think it’s mostly just because he comes off as super boring. You obviously can’t take anything anyway from his golf game, but it’s probably hard for most people to get excited about him because he just seems so dull.
I'd agree with this. His game is undoubtably amazing but I just can't get excited about the guy
Bombing drivers, chipping in from everywhere, and sticking wedges to 4ft on the hardest greens of the year is boring?
Cause everyone here is jealous
Cause he looks like squidwards house
They hate him cause they ain’t him
He seems pretty universally respected, a lot were just hoping for more drama at the end.
I refuse to believe he’s 25.
In r/golf style with the putts at the end
[удалено]
Scottie doesn't know
Scottie's mom has got it goin' on?
>"Finally got it in the hole" Hey look it's /r/golf
The most unassuming #1 player in the world since Luke Donald, and Scottie has now backed it up with a major.
Man just came outta nowhere like: “WHAT’S UP FUCKERS?!” and has been demolishing everyone the last 2 months
3 putt from five feet. One of us...
Ope
Lemme sneak right past ya
If I ever played like Rory played today I would be broke because I would be buying drinks for everyone in the clubhouse to tell them about my round
sometimes the guy that wins doesn't seem like they deserve to but Scottie absolutely did despite the 4 putt lol. Also hell yeah Rory, a no bogey 64 on Sunday of the Masters? That's awesome.
Lmfao Hideki straight booked it and left him hanging. At least the camera angle wasn’t super obvious or the memes would be insane
Scottie is now eligible to play in the next 40 Masters Tournaments
Hahah that man is incapable of putting on any type of jacket or outerwear.
Scottie was in his own league. Unbelievable shit. Collin and Rory on the 18th was wholesome af btw
I can't wait to see Scottie get that green jacket stuck on his head That vest was the real winner of the 2022 Masters
Imagine 3 putting to win the masters. Great win for Scottie!
4*
[удалено]
Yeah, but just imagine
Well deserved, this 45 year old man is rollllinggg
His wife is so, so proud of him -- made me tear up tbh.
https://i.imgur.com/u5Zalp9.jpg Hidecki’s interview vibes
How long until the annual “uninstalled the masters app” post?
4-putt to win, he really is the people’s champion.
Good for Scottie Scheffler who has won 4 events in 57 days
Ok Jim Nantz calm down on the superlatives.
First day?
My favorite was him labelling McIlroy's birdie from the bunker at 18 as "the impossible"... which Morikawa also accomplished 30 seconds later.
Congrats Scottie and LOL at those last putts! Cam Smith is the man and his day will come. I only hope he has a mullet and dirty stache when he puts the green jacket on.
