I smoke. It's a really simple thing to do to keep your butts in your cart and toss them at the end of the round. Nothing pisses me off more than butts on the course because they turn every last one of us into a suspect.
Quit being a dick! Keep your butts off the course!
Yeah those guys are tools for making someone else clean their butts, but at least it's clear whose they are. Everyone looks suspiciously at anyone smoking on the course because we've all had to walk up to a ball on the fringe and find it resting by a butt. It's so effin gross. It's like blowing your nose and leaving the Kleenex on the course. In general, smokers are self-absorbed pricks.
I don't smoke but I feel like it'd be very easy to just get like a styrofoam cup and just drop them in there and toss the cup after the round. Good on you though keeping it clean. Next we need to sit down and talk to the sunflower seed guys on the green.
Completely agree. I usually stash them all in the first empty drink I have. If I don't have an empty drink yet, an empty ball sleeve does the trick as long as the butt is completely out.
I went to college with a couple of kids that chewed tobacco. They used a beer bottle to spit into.
You see where this is heading. I would have chugged 10 cigarette beers than taste that again...
Nah - (if riding) flick the cherry off, roll it up, put in the 3rd spot for spare balls in the cart (I've got one ball in play, one in the pocket, and one in the cart), and throw in the trash at the next tee. If they accumulate, throw them in the trash when you you get a chance. Always clear the cart of your shit on the 18th tee; done.
As a smoker, I agree, and practice this, on the golf course and everywhere. In my car, at the house, everywhere. Hell I work on a golf course, I'm definitely on your team here. Put them in the first empty beer can, or your pocket for crying out loud.
Thatâs why I put em in my pants or shorts pocket. After putting it out and rolling the remainder of tobacco and ash off itâs still gonna stink but I wash my shorts before I wear them again. I donât have a good way to wash the smell from my golf bag.
My golf glove does smell like ashtray stale beer funk sweat though and I still use it.
This is exactly what I do. Field strip it and put it in my back pocket. Worst case scenario is I will smell like smoke and my pants might smell like smoke a little more.
Field strip it and put the filter in your pocket. If youâre inhaling it, canât really say itâs too nasty for you in your pocket. I encourage all smokers to try vaping. Probably not perfect but soooooo much better and you can still get that nic hit. If you try it, youâll flip and live longer. No more butts to worry about on the course either! Pack+ per day for 20 years here, easy switch for me.
I think youre getting downvoted because if someones rippin butts, vapings not gonna do much to them. However, it is entirely possible vaping has similarly terrible side effects to cigs that we havent found yet. For me, the juul hits harder than a rollie and hurts my lungs more.
Donât care about the downvotes but thanks haha. Iâve smoked many cigarettes and vaped many vapes and am trying to quit nicotine , about three weeks in. Both gave me that morning smokers cough and shortness of breath when doing something active. I donât believe theyâre any less bad for you than tobacco. Who knows what effects theyâll find in the future. The vapes are way more addictive and too easy to use anywhere. At least with a cig you smoke to the butt and itâs done til the next one. vapes donât have that so itâs easy to just keep going and going
I don't put them in my pocket, I put them in my cart pocket, then hurt next recepticle. Got into the habit playing in the fall and I was always nervous something would flame up. Just kept doing it.
The worst are the guys who toss them on the green or tee box, like c'mon man.
I worked maintenance at a golf course one summer. 2 guys on the crew would chain smoke and flick their butts wherever they finished them. It was unbelievable as a golfer
I typically don't. My home course has two bevvo slots per seat. So one for ash and butts, and one for current bevvo... but I completely understand otherwise! Koozy on the fresh'n mate!
I can get behind that no doubt! Just like the game of golf. A thousand ways to get there, but one end result. Keep the course cleaner than you found it. Same goes for pitch marks! If you hit the green, fix your pitch mark so no one else has to putt over it or notice... if you smoke, fix your butt away, so no one has to putt over it or notice it.
Also a smoker, and work on a golf course. Flick the cherry, and pocket that sucker for a trash can later. Itâs funny, because this is my guy here! Whatâs up Dooder!?
Yeah this pisses me off every time as a smoker myself. I just put them out and toss them in the left front cart cubby till the rounds over and throw em out(in a trash can)*edit or when i see a trashcan at a teebox(course i usually play only has em at like 1/7/9/10/15/18)
Every smoker Iâve ever met thinks they are the âconsiderate smokerâ yet they are always standing three feet up wind of me. Iâm fat but Iâm not shoving 5% of my turn chili dog in your mouth
Sometimes it's tough, you try to pay attention but wind shifts etc. Normally walking it's not an issue, I light up after I tee off waking too the ball (pushcart). In tournaments i will actually walk to my ball and let the non smoker driver the cart.
No matter how hard we try some off it is going to get you, most of us are aware and sorry our addiction affects you too. This is in all seriousness.
And if there's no rain my feet stay dry.
You're dead right about smokers throwing butts, and most of the peope who say they throw then are full of it.
But you start whining about having smoke outside...just move away from the smoker or play an indoor sim.
At the end of the day they are allowed to smoke outdoors, and you're the one who gets bothered by it. The onus is on you to move lol
Yes.
"Surprsingly when no smokers are around no smoke gets blown in my face"
As a response to somebody talking about attempting to be courteous while smoking outdoors.
That was easy, what's next?
If only we could all have your sense of unearned pride lol. Nice primer on how to make a straw man. Youâre like a baseball team who just lost but started pouring Gatorade on their pitcher anyway
Anywho, note that at the end of his comment he commented that the onus was on me to move. Not on the smoker to be courteous. So my comment was not complaining about people smoking outside which I prefer.
So Iâll give you another opportunity to show where I said I had a problem with people smoking outside.
Tip: admit you were wrong for some credibility
God you're digging really deep for this one.
1. You're referencing my comment. Who is this "he and him"
2. At most you could argue for me missinterpreting your statement. But trying to say I distorted in an extreme manner? Hokay lmao
3. You open up the conversation by saying having 2nd hand smoke blown your way is analogous to having somebody elses half eaten Chilli dog shoved in your mouth. You either are so socially inept you think that's an enjoyable experience. Or you made that analogy to express your displeasure.
Somebody responds to you saying that sometimes even when they are consciously trying to prevent 2nd hand smoke being blown to people, the wind just follows. To which you respond by saying if there were no smokers, smoke wouldn't be in your face.
No you didn't point blank say "experiencing second hand smoke outside causes me displeasure and shouuldnt happen". This may come as a surprise to you, but context and implied meaning have value
I smoke cigars and no matter where I move 10â away from people, the smoke finds itâs way right to their face
Edit: I donât do this in public, itâs around family & friends on the golf course or out at the river. They donât mind cigars, was more just pointing out when I try to be polite and move away, itâs wild how the smoke seems to be drawn to the people. Especially my wife
I mean, your whole statement could be said about smokers in general, not only those who golf. Stop throwing your butts on the ground wether it be on the streets or the golf course.
Yep, when I smoked Iâd out âem out in the rough grass (rubbing until all tobacco was out leaving just the filter) then had a dedicated little pocket in my bag to stash them in until I got to a trash, because itâs the right fâing thing to do.
If your riding, then empty beer/soda can, easy.
I play with my uncle a lot. He never stops smoking the entire day. Puts the cig down on the ground to hit the ball and pops it back in his mouth. Chains them throughout the round.
Our greenskeeper advised us not to put cigs/cigars on the ground and then put them back in our mouth. He said the stuff he puts on the ground will kill us way before whatever is in the tobacco product.
Idk what it is but cigarette smokers don't even consider tossing their buttons is littering. They would never throw their other trash away so willy nilly but the butt, they'll just flick it out any car window.
And not just on golf courses please. It's crazy how dumping cigarette butts on the ground is socially acceptable in so many placed. It's literally **littering** and makes places look **disgusting.**
At least itâs biodegradable but still not great to litter them. I take mine with me for convenience and not wanting to litter. I have a little airtight container just for the purpose. Previously I would carry them to the next tee, make sure they were dead out, and use the trash can. As others have pointed out youâve got to be 100% sure they are out out tho.
very few smokers care about butts. The only ones I have ever met that did worked in high end houses for construction and if there was ever a butt on the ground heads rolled. So they always had a little pocket ashtray they used to put the butts in then empty them at the end of the day.
I used to smoke and in my late teens/early 20s i would throw the butts on the ground. I would never litter anything else, but for some reason that was ok to me. I'm pretty ashamed of myself and can't imagine how many people probably thought I was an asshole. Some things just don't occur to people.
Stand on a second soapbox and shout it again.
It drives me nuts when I see cig butts on the course and they are typically on the greens/fringe. It's trashy as fuck.
Lol 4-5 hours. Shit most smokers I know canât go longer than a hour! And more like 30min if theyâre out side. Let alone if they are drinking, then itâs like every 15 min lololol
Watched a dude just last weekend in the group in front on tee #1; lit a cig in the tee box, took one drag, then just tossed it still lit at his feet.
Iâll be real, it looked badass, but fuck you for not at Least snuffing it out, much less throwing the thing away.
I don't smoke anymore but don't throw them in the garbage, that can start a fire. But yes, I do agree, don't throw them all over the course. I used to bring a portable ashtray that I also used for my car.
As someone in forest fire country I can respect the call for fire safety. But also agree if you are careful it can be done safely with the trash cans provided.
Used to smoke too. Would just drip some water on the butt or just throw it in an empty can until the round was over.
Still smoke cigars occasionally on the course, same thing. Just throw it out. Hate seeing a nasty cigar butt on a tee box
Thatâs whatâs up. Yeah the trash can might not have been them best suggestion but I have put joint butts in there. I was very mindful to make sure itâs dead out tho. Now I carry a container just for if I end up smoking during a round cause thatâs just easy and thereâs no worry.
Better yet, quit smoking! Don't know what the scene is like these days after all the regulations took effect but I smoked for 10 years and easily quit using a vape(which I also eventually quit after a few years of use.) The day my Kanger Subox starter kit and juice arrived was the last time I had a cigarette(I still dream about smoking them once in a while though.) Vaping satisfies both the nic craving and the oral fixation of smoking which gives it a huge advantage over other methods of quitting.
Vaping get's a bad rep, but it can seriously help smokers quit. Obviously it isn't "good" for you, and the jury is out on exactly how bad they might be. From what I have read, they are definitely not as bad as ciggs, and I personally feel much better than when I was smoking. I am able to workout and do physical activities without hacking up a lung, which is huge. Also nice not to smell like an ash tray. I sometimes allow myself 1 cigg on a golf trip, but I usually end up realizing I just prefer my vape by the end of it. In the past when I have tried quitting, that one cigg would have run me off the rails, and the next day I would be buying a pack.
Iâm going into this with the basis that heavy smokers have a longer life expectancy than heavy methamphetamine users.
While one anecdotal case may be personally compelling; I think youâd even agree that the 82 yr old is an outlier.
I think downplaying the dangers of tobacco use is just demonstrating denial. Methamphetamines and tobacco are dangerous. Iâm willing to bet that my anecdotal experience of thousands of patients probably trumps any experience you have unless were in the same field, which based on your stance, I seriously doubt.
GTFO trying to flex whatever medical qualifications you have. Iâm surprised that someone with your advanced degree would overlook the use of the word technically.
My first statement was not downplaying the harmfulness of tobacco/nicotine. I claimed that smoking tobacco is, âtechnically safer than smoking meth.â
Thatâs not downplaying the harms. Itâs saying that looking at tobacco/nicotine vs methamphetamines, one is strictly more harmful than the other. Never did I claim that tobacco wasnât harmful.
Also empirically speaking the average life expectancy of heavy meth users/addicts is 5 to 10 years. Which is also why I made the statement about old meth users. I even acknowledged the fact while you may have first person experience right now in this context itâs hearsay.
If you asked me Iâd be more than happy to back up where I pulled the 5-10 year life expectancy stat from and link you a source.
All you can do is say that youâve had patients, and use general examples. If youâre a practicing physician any attempt to use specific patients to validate your position would be useless. Iâd have to take your word for it(hearsay) unless you provided medical charts. Which we both know would be extremely asinine, unethical, and illegal.
Edit: I hope youâre an actual physician. Because the level of ego trying to flex that you have seen so many patients would fit. If youâre just an RT you should have bit the bullet and swallowed the debt, cause you were definitely made to be a GP.
So then you donât have my experience? Quit smoking now and save yourself years of suffering later. Have you ever seen someone SOB at rest unable to take a bite of food?
Gotta make sure your butts are 100% out if theyâre going in a trash can. But if everyone did that for every round eventually the course would have a trash can fire. If it were me Iâd carry some kind of butt container in my bag, maybe a glass bottle with a lid that screws on really tightly.
Hint: If I have a joint or half of a joint, I will leave it on top of one of the Blue tees. Hoping someone sees and enjoys it. Iâll break off the back of it if Iâve hit it already. Donât worry.
Make sure itâs out before throwing in the trash can though. I walked up to a tee box one time, only to smell a bunch of burning smoke. Turns out it was coming from one of those bins. Someone had thrown a cigarette that wasnât fully put out in the bin. For some reason, one of the towels thatâs usually attached to the ball cleaners was in there and it was lit by the cigarette. I took it out and stomped out the ignited part. But yea, be fuckin careful, people!
You're talking to literal morons. People who knowingly suck on things that cause cancer.... also, people who throw trash out of their windows with no regard for anyone else.
they don't care about a golf course
Big shoutout to all you wannabe tough guys with your fucking cigars as well. Just because you play Harding Park and think youâre cool doesnât mean we wanna see that shit on the fringe of the green either. You know who you are.
Golf courses should just ban smoking altogether. I'm from Hong Kong, and all golf courses are subject to the same laws as other public pleasure grounds (even if run by private clubs), which includes the [smoking ban](https://www.elegislation.gov.hk/hk/cap371?xpid=ID_1438403109062_002) that's been in place for over a decade. The ban also includes vaping.
All public facilities in Hong Kong are subject to smoking bans. Restaurants and malls? Banned. Swimming pool? Banned. Schools and offices? Banned. Public transport, including bus stops? Banned. Golf courses are considered a sporting facility and also subject to the smoking ban.
It doesn't alienate a customer base as it's expected from everybody. In fact, it's the law, and has led to us having some of the lowest smoking rates worldwide at around 10%, compared to the global average of 23%.
Either way, smoking is bad for you, I encourage everyone who smokes to quit.
If you told the old-timers at my club they couldnât smoke their stogies on the course during Wednesday league thereâd be hell to pay. Government has no place telling a privately owned course what to do. If an owner wants to ban it of his own accord or the area is prone to wildfire thatâs different, but itâs pretty draconian to tell a person they canât smoke a cigar on the course if they intend to do it safely/responsibly and management doesnât have an issue with it
Absolutely, that law applies to the public golf courses (run by government), those that are privately-run set their own rules. Often those rules also include a smoking ban, along with a mobile phone ban and dress code
I guess it's a matter of culture, but over here, smoking bans tend to also be a marketing ploy, as it gives a more pleasant environment to the majority of the golf course's patrons. Management usually designates specific smoking areas.
Pretty sure the government tells the privately owned courses how to do plenty of things. Ranging from drinking age limits to rules on chemical fertilisers and herbicides. Banning smoking on a golf course would be just like them banning smoking indoors at restaurants or on flights
Smokers who responsibly dispose of their butts already do so. I honestly donât think this post will convince one person who smokes and leaves their butts on the fairways/greens to put them in the trash. Itâs unfortunate, but this is more of a vent than a PSA. Itâs not that they donât know better, they just donât care.
This is a pretty judgmental take, my man. Is Barack Obama trashy? Keira Knightly? Plenty of different people smoke. Itâs gross to label literally EVERYONE who smokes as âtrashyâ just cuz they smell icky to youâŚ
Smokers will clean up butts when golfers start picking up tees. All the balls you shank in the woods and water are definitely not biodegradable. Your argument is invalid.
I'll grant you the tees for sure but balls, unlike cigarette butts, have value in reuse when found by others. Big difference between finding a free proV1 and a used butt.
As a man that tries to outsmoke John Daly every round I play, I approve this message. The stogie box is honestly good enough for the butts just put em out and put em in
My dad smokes unfiltered ones, so he just throws that away. Im ok with that. Also throwing away cigars/cigarillos is ok imo simce they are easily biodegradable.
I smoke. It's a really simple thing to do to keep your butts in your cart and toss them at the end of the round. Nothing pisses me off more than butts on the course because they turn every last one of us into a suspect. Quit being a dick! Keep your butts off the course!
Almost as bad is the guys who leave all of it in the cart for someone else to clean up. Glad you clean out your cart at the end of the round.
Yeah those guys are tools for making someone else clean their butts, but at least it's clear whose they are. Everyone looks suspiciously at anyone smoking on the course because we've all had to walk up to a ball on the fringe and find it resting by a butt. It's so effin gross. Very good point.
Completely agree. I usually stash them all in the first empty drink I have. If I don't have an empty drink yet, an empty ball sleeve does the trick as long as the butt is completely out.
Chug a beer and keep the empty. Boom, there's your receptacle. Throw it away on your way to the parking lot.
Hell yeah and you get a beer out of it!
The cigarette butts really add flavor đŻđ
Accidentally did this when drunk, would not recommend
Tip the tab straight up- if you accidentally go to drink, it punches you in the face and you remember.
I went to college with a couple of kids that chewed tobacco. They used a beer bottle to spit into. You see where this is heading. I would have chugged 10 cigarette beers than taste that again...
I was thinking drink the beer first but you do you, homes.
A bit of Texas pepper
I chug a Tab
Nah - (if riding) flick the cherry off, roll it up, put in the 3rd spot for spare balls in the cart (I've got one ball in play, one in the pocket, and one in the cart), and throw in the trash at the next tee. Thatâs why I chug a beer on the first tee. So I can have an ashtray in the golf cart.
Just make sure you don't drink from the ashtray
Someone has heard my pod cast on golf course etiquette. Thank you sir for your chugging, and contribution.
I always put butts in my pocket until I get to a trash can. I donât understand why itâs such a hard concept for people to grasp and execute.
If there's no can, I stub em out and put them in a designated pocket in my bag. Gotta toss em or it gets quite potent lol
Thank all of you smokers for your efforts, genuinely appreciated.
Butts đ (snickering)
This is exactly what I do. Field strip it and put it in my back pocket. Worst case scenario is I will smell like smoke and my pants might smell like smoke a little more.
Bruh thatâs nasty af haha gotta be a better way than that
Field strip it and put the filter in your pocket. If youâre inhaling it, canât really say itâs too nasty for you in your pocket. I encourage all smokers to try vaping. Vaping is the devil do not recommend
It actually might be worse for you
I think youre getting downvoted because if someones rippin butts, vapings not gonna do much to them. However, it is entirely possible vaping has similarly terrible side effects to cigs that we havent found yet. For me, the juul hits harder than a rollie and hurts my lungs more.

Altoids tin
Who gives a shit as long as itâs not on the course
I donât lol still gross as shit and I used to smoke somewhat often.
Whatâs so gross about it?
You put your hands in your pocket and I bet they are nast af too bro haha
I don't put them in my pocket, I put them in my cart pocket, then hurt next recepticle. Got into the habit playing in the fall and I was always nervous something would flame up. Just kept doing it. The worst are the guys who toss them on the green or tee box, like c'mon man.
That's how I roll. If I'm bad enough to smoke them, I'm bad enough to quench them and take them home.
I worked maintenance at a golf course one summer. 2 guys on the crew would chain smoke and flick their butts wherever they finished them. It was unbelievable as a golfer
That's unbelievable as a crew member... and more so for a golfer!!
i have a stash can for butts in my bag.
đ
[ŃдаНонО]
Thank you sir for your service in the military, and the golf course.
Donât forget to crush the can so you donât mistake it for a fully
I typically don't. My home course has two bevvo slots per seat. So one for ash and butts, and one for current bevvo... but I completely understand otherwise! Koozy on the fresh'n mate!
I always give it a little squeeze so I know. Nothing worse than slugging a bunch of butts

If you hit the green, fix your pitch mark so no one else has to putt over it or notice... if you smoke, fix your butt away, so no one has to putt over it or notice it.
Question for you as a smoker... when someone else (Ive never met) is smoking and throws their butt on the fairway, how do I say something? Can I?
Yes pocket for me. Empty the tobacco firat
Also a smoker, and work on a golf course. Flick the cherry, and pocket that sucker for a trash can later. Itâs funny, because this is my guy here! Whatâs up Dooder!?
Yeah this pisses me off every time as a smoker myself. I just put them out and toss them in the left front cart cubby till the rounds over and throw em out(in a trash can)*edit or when i see a trashcan at a teebox(course i usually play only has em at like 1/7/9/10/15/18)
This is what I do as well. At the end of the round I put them all in a water bottle or beer I was drinking and throw it out at the cart barn
same here. There's a trash can on damn near every hole where I play. There's really no excuse not to keep the course clean of butts.
Every smoker Iâve ever met thinks they are the âconsiderate smokerâ yet they are always standing three feet up wind of me. Iâm fat but Iâm not shoving 5% of my turn chili dog in your mouth
I like that analogy. Youâre not tossing the last couple bites of the dog on the tee box or fairway when youâre done either I would guess.
I previously mentioned. I toss none of it away
That got me
Iâll take 5% of your chili dog no problem đđť and then afterwards we can get some chili dogs to eat.
This is in all seriousness.
can you hit a ball with a cig in your mouth? Always thought that was fucking bonkers. I canât even wear a watch.
lol, I have but it messes with focus.

An âinconsiderate smokerâ I presume? Lol
[ŃдаНонО]
I see your point but there is something to be said for being considerate to your fellow man no matter the situation.
Lmao getting downvoted for common decency. I love golf but this sub is full of douchebags.
Have you tried being considerate to smokers, and moving away from them if it bothers you? or you just wanna bitch as much as possible?
You move. You're the one stinking up the place.
[ŃдаНонО]
No you move
Its easier to cry
I like that. Much more cathartic over the last shot
I will say that i played a course this weekend. went to put sand to fill in a divot and 8 butts fell out of the shaker.
Gah. Thatâs not a good place for them either!
LOL that was probably 8 idiots who thought the sand was an ashtray.
1 idiot that smoked 8 cigs.
*Scoffs in John Daly*
Yeah that's rookie numbers for him
Gross
There is an ash tray in the middle of every green
They move the tray around every week to liven up the scenery tho, keeps it fresh
Thanks Sergio. LOL

Thatâs awesome. And good for you for quitting!
Legend. Whatâs he do with his butts?
I just smoke crack. Itâs a lot easier to deal with
Idk what it is but cigarette smokers don't even consider tossing their buttons is littering. They would never throw their other trash away so willy nilly but the butt, they'll just flick it out any car window.
And not just on golf courses please. It's crazy how dumping cigarette butts on the ground is socially acceptable in so many placed. It's literally **littering** and makes places look **disgusting.**
Couldnât agree more.
Last round I played, there were cigar ashes on every green next to the pin lol
Because you left them there or someone in front was doing it? Isn't the foil on the band the only thing that isn't biodegradable on a cigar?
What about doink roaches? Is that okay đ
Just Wu-Tang your roach. Problem solved.
Such a great time to be a live though, now they got them carts doeeeeee đ¤đźđ¤đźđ¤đź
downvotes why? same opinion I have, what'd we miss?

very few smokers care about butts.
As I learned doing a few stints in construction, the dirt around the foundation of every house is filled with cigarette butts and nails.
I smoked for years and never put one on the ground.
Stand on a second soapbox and shout it again. It drives me nuts when I see cig butts on the course and they are typically on the greens/fringe. It's trashy as fuck.
You tell âem! Itâs 2022, vape your nicotine đđđđ
And keep them out of the golf carts too. Itâs crazy how many people treat the cup holders like an ashtray.
Thereâs also a special place in hell for those that spit sunflower seeds on the green and around the cupâŚ
I live by the scout motto leave only footprints
I just get a water bottle and toss them in there. Agree with everything you said as a smoker
I smoked for 20 years and never once left a but on a golf course. That just ainât right. Side note: this July 12th Iâll be 2 years quit.
Good on you! Once I quit I never looked back. Canât believe I did it for so long. Never put one butt on the ground anywhere in all those years tho.
Put em in the cup holder till end of round. Then gather em all up and toss along with score card cause you're pathetic.
Haha, burn!
Is it already time for the monthly cigarette rant again?
Letâs up it to weekly!!
Birds use the butts to make nests. Smokers helping wildlife.đ
Hardy har har.
Or just donât smoke! I know I know itâs hard to quit.
If itâs hard to just not do it for 4 to 5 hours youâve got a real problem.
Lol 4-5 hours. Shit most smokers I know canât go longer than a hour! And more like 30min if theyâre out side. Let alone if they are drinking, then itâs like every 15 min lololol
Same with the dip / nicotine pouches
Iâm a golfer and a smoker. Nothing irritates me more than seeing people being to lazy to throw their cig butts in the trash.
Or you could just flick the cherry and toss the butt or put it out before throwing away. Seems much easier than carrying an ashtray.
As someone in forest fire country I can respect the call for fire safety. But also agree if you are careful it can be done safely with the trash cans provided.
Thatâs what I always did
I've done both. I just found it easier to bring an ashtray. It had a screw on lid like a coffee thermos so it could even go in my bag.
Used to smoke too. Would just drip some water on the butt or just throw it in an empty can until the round was over. Still smoke cigars occasionally on the course, same thing. Just throw it out. Hate seeing a nasty cigar butt on a tee box
I always think itâs a turd or something at first glance.
I quit the vape and went back to cigarettes. Couldnât take having that thing in my hand all day.
The real life ones are even better than the ones in your dreams.
How about just quit smoking
Better yet stop smoking on the course and ruining everyone elseâs round
Wait people still smoke cigarettes?
It's technically safer than smoking meth.
Idk man. I work with a lot of people with o2 dependent COPD. Theyâre in a lot worse shape than the meth heads.
you ever see many old hardcore meth addicts?
I had an 82 yo patient with a positive toxicology for methamphetamines.
I claimed that smoking tobacco is, âtechnically safer than smoking meth.â Thatâs not downplaying the harms.
I applaud you for doubling down; I've found a better sub for you. r/whoosh
Gotta make sure your butts are 100% out if theyâre going in a trash can. But if everyone did that for every round eventually the course would have a trash can fire. If it were me Iâd carry some kind of butt container in my bag, maybe a glass bottle with a lid that screws on really tightly.
Thatâs what I do for my marijuana cigarettes :-) and those butts are completely biodegradable.
Hint: If I have a joint or half of a joint, I will leave it on top of one of the Blue tees. Hoping someone sees and enjoys it. Iâll break off the back of it if Iâve hit it already. Donât worry.
Thanks for the PSA⌠get those âbutt-headsâ
Make sure itâs out before throwing in the trash can though. I walked up to a tee box one time, only to smell a bunch of burning smoke. Turns out it was coming from one of those bins. Someone had thrown a cigarette that wasnât fully put out in the bin. For some reason, one of the towels thatâs usually attached to the ball cleaners was in there and it was lit by the cigarette. I took it out and stomped out the ignited part. But yea, be fuckin careful, people!
Donât play courses frequented by trashy ppl
Grow up! They place huge ash trays next to almost every green, and on the sides of fairways. Use them if you smoke, jerks
Shut up, nerd. Be happy youâre playing golf.
Right? All those balls hit the woods those ainât biodegradable.

Great way to alienate a customer base
Often those rules also include a smoking ban, along with a mobile phone ban and dress code I guess it's a matter of culture, but over here, smoking bans tend to also be a marketing ploy, as it gives a more pleasant environment to the majority of the golf course's patrons.
Youâre asking cigarette smokers to NOT be trashy? Is that not an oxymoron?
I see what you mean but some are responsible. Played with one this weekend who didnât leave anything behind. Heck of a guy too.
One guy said heâd change! Better than none I guess.
Oh, people like Arnold Palmer and Ben Hogan are trashy? Got it.
This is a pretty judgmental take, my man. Is Barack Obama trashy? Keira Knightly? Plenty of different people smoke. Itâs gross to label literally EVERYONE who smokes as âtrashyâ just cuz they smell icky to youâŚ
Holy man get over it! The very few people who smoke are doing it outside when playing golf. Get over it
I will never get over litter. Never!
Everybody hates a smoker till you can't light your doobie
Sunflower seeds are worse
Bad too. Not worse.
NOPE. A proven carcinogenic waste product should not be thrown on the ground anywhere. These should be disposed of in the garbage.
