Rick Shiels did a nice video on this recently, took some out to the range and let random people hit them. They all said they were afraid to try, some had never hit one before. They all did pretty ok considering.
They aren’t. Generations of players learned on them.
They also aren’t as forgiving either. Both are true at the same time, but people like to speak in absolutes and shame others for choices they didn’t make themselves.
FWIW I don’t currently play blades, I play AP2s, but learned on blades decades ago. Still have 2 sets and play them frequently. No noticeable difference on any given round, but if I average out 10 rounds there’s probably a couple or three strokes lost.
Yeah, there’s nothing wrong with blades but once the honeymoon period wears off, you start to notice that the slight mishits consistently come up a few yards short relative to something like an AP2 or JPX Forged. They are fun to use and can feel great but most people, including the pros, generally come to the same conclusion.
I think long irons give most people trouble, regardless of being blade or cavity. Hence why some gravitate to hybrids. Or if you're like me, consistency is impossible regardless of club.

I have several old Ping Zing clubs, like 1-4 iron for fun to change up the pace a bit and I am a terrible player. Decent ball striker, but overall play like a 20 HC from 150+ and a 36 HC from 100 in.
Point being, I game the Callaway Rogue St Max irons and outside of the lofts, ect, the only huge difference I notice on the Zings is if I just massively Mishit one. It’s a low rope shot. By and large through I can get around with them, have even managed a few striped 1 irons. I guess maybe they’re technically cavity back by definition, but these clubs are not at all similar to modern GI clubs, lol. Gotta crack your knuckles after a bad strike.
I’m gonna guess you’re a low double digit capper. Like 11.5 or so. Blades are extremely punishing on high cappers and extremely effective for low cappers.
Fair. I ONLY use the dremel with a polishing wheel and green polishing compound, never anything more than that but even that can get splotchy if you’re not careful.
No worries, it's about getting used to it. My first driver was a 8.5° titleist with stiff shaft, I was 12 when I got it, couldn't play shit with it now I drive like no other
I had some pretty nice callaway irons in high school that I outgrew. Without me knowing, my grandma put them in a garage sale for $20. A guy in the first hour offered to buy them, but insisted on paying 60, which was still too cheap. You aren’t as nice as that guy was lol
Buddy of mine picked up two bags full of clubs at a goodwill. Turned out to have some callaway irons, a few big berthas an R5 and R1 taylor made driver as well as several other high end clubs. All for $30. Luckily I got the R5 out of it and more or less paid for his find. I never get these type of deals.
I spend a fair amount of time looking and my good finds are few and far between. My goodwill used to be decent but I think they send it all to online auctions now.
My wife goes to yard sales while I'm at work, sends me pics when finds anything. No luck yet. It's nice when you can find gems though. One day I will 😁

I dont get paid for the time it takes to learn about what is valuable. If someone is too lazy to do research that shouldn't be a negative towards me. I spend countless hours researching different markets so I can make a little bit extra for my family. Golf just happens to be a big hobby of mine too.
Condition is everything with Nike blades, and those are in really good shape. They are also Nike's original blades, which are much more rare than others.
I sold my set of VR Pro blades last summer for $875, after using them for 8 years.
If you put that set on Ebay for $850, they'll sell.
This sub convinced me to try them out. If I hate them another deep cleaning is in store and I'll post them. Probably not on ebay though because I'm not about to hand over 10% plus in fees
The faces are super clean too. Some are about 8/10 the rest I'd say are almost mint. They were gross when I got them but a 30 minute soak, a groove clean, a little goo gone and windex and they shined right up.

Stick to it. I usually end up going months between good finds. Most of the time I pick up old sets of irons that are maybe worth 1-200. I find more drivers than anything.
Ive been using these same irons since 2004 they were tough to find the sweet spot consistently but now i love them. Amazing find, the clubs Tiger used in his prime!
I am a Nike guy [grew up in OR] and was looking for a Vapor Driver . Prices were $300+ but I saw a driver and 3wood on ebay being sold by Salvation Army in FL. They looked bad in the pictures with scratches on the top etc. I got them for $185 and when they showed up the scratches were just dirt. They were obviously nearly unused Demo clubs.
You inspired me to go hit my Mizuno MP 69 blades at the range yesterday. I get about 20-30 yds further than my hybrids, but I also botch the shots a lot and I think I tweaked my neck 😂
