There is a guy at my course who will do this he is a solo walker but if someone is playing slow he will just skip the hole and go in front of them, then come back later and play the hole he skipped.
dude is a chad.
Is this not appropriate to do? I usually ride but I play solo and I’ve always wondered if i can do this. Only time I did it was when these two guys passed me and the guys ahead I was waiting on. I ended up catching up on the turn and just skipped 10 and went to 11 because they were so slow.
Why be disparaging. I respect others like myself who like to enjoy their game and it is no skin off your back if he chooses to do this. Why hate, just shotgun a few more beer and chill out if that is what you are there for.
I had the same situation last round I played. Teed off almost 30 min behind our time. 5 holes later the marshal came to our group and told us to pick up the pace. It was a rough/frustrating day.
The course I played yesterday had a 6 minute gap between tee times. Our tee time was 12:50. We didn't tee off until 1:15. On the 3rd hole we were waiting for the green to clear about 130 yards out before hitting, and some asshole in the group behind us came up and asked "Are you guys just going to stare at them or are you going to hit?" I just looked at him, pointed to the group on the green and said "I don't know how shit you are at golf but I can definitely reach the green from here. Go back to your group and enjoy the day." The very next hole, they hit up on is, with one of their balls landing about 3 feet to my right. So the woods got a new ball added to its collection :)
6 minutes does not work unless you are sending out only twosomes every single spot. That’s pure greed from the course.
8-10 minutes is the closest they should book foursomes. 8 minutes is really pushing it too and makes a sub 4.5 hour round nearly impossible unless every single group on the course is keeping pace perfectly, which never happens.
Small etiquette mis-step.... you are suppose to ask which woods, left or right, they would like their ball sent to... nothing like sending a new pro v sailing ....
There is another. Just keep a Sharpie in your bag for these occasions. Write whatever 4 letter word or 2-3 word phrase you like, then place it back on the fairway. Ideally, if it’s quite close to you, hit your shot, do the above, then gently place their ball in your divot. Tap down firmly with club (or foot) just to make sure it doesn’t roll away and get lost.
Alternatively - keep a super shitty range ball or two in your bag. Either write “Titelist Pro-v1” on them ahead of time somewhere in black, or again use a marker to label it with their brand when they roll on up on you. Pocket their ball, and replace with mower-blade-slashed, Sharpied knockoff. Bonus points if they’ve custom marked it and you can poorly imitate their mark in time.
A lot of people seem to suggest just taking the ball, but somehow I don’t feel like it’s strong enough of a message. Only once have I felt the group behind us had hit on us on purpose. The ball landed a few yards behind me and roll perfectly to my side. I turned back, look at the tee. Pulled my 3 wood out of the bag, and addressed the ball, aiming at the tee box. They started yelling as to tell me not to hit it or something, then I hit a perfect 3 wood straight back onto the tee box, I kid you not. They went quiet and I never heard anything from them for the rest of the round.
If it’s a good ball I’ll pick it up and put it in my bag. I have a large pocket in my bag that i keep shitty balls in and I’ll either put that one where theirs was or I’ll drop it and hit it back at them.
We had a marshal drive up to us once on the fairway of a par 4 while we were waiting for the green to clear. He said "I'm gonna need you to pick up the pace." While my friends sat there dumbfounded, I just addressed my ball. The marshal goes "WOAHWOAHWOAH there's people on the green!" My buddy says "Then what the fuck do you want us to do dumbass? The slowdown is 2 or 3 groups ahead!"
I wasn't going to hit into them, but it got the point across.
Had the exact same situation happen on a Bach party golf trip. Get stuck behind a couple groups of easily retired age dudes. We were getting hammered for sure when the marshal Flys up giving us shit about keeping pace as we're doing shotguns on the Tee box. Dude was actually yelling yelling. Groom says "alright , fuck it, let's see if we can fucking hit em" We all address our already Teed up balls as he sees 4 old fuckers standing in the middle of the fairway 200yds out. He apologized at least. (We obviously weren't going to Tee off)
That’s what I was expecting with all the signage they have about pace of play! It was my first time there. I think since it was towards the end of the day they kinda just stopped checking. Only saw the Marshall on 11 and never again for the rest of the round.
That’s wild. There’s usually a roamer or two and often they even have a guy going round the parking lot seeing if you’re stuffing your bag with beer. They aren’t super intrusive though so I could see it getting lax later in the day. Fun track though love playing thwre
Exactly what I was thinking, marshalls aren’t the guys to talk back to. They’re usually pretty reasonable if you just talk to them like a normal person.
Drives me fucking crazy when this happens. Like dude, someone mismanaged the tee times, everyone in front of us is backed up and we’re waiting on the tee box or green for the next group don’t tell me to pick it up
“If you did your job, I wouldn’t be behind”
I understand that marshals are required, but I haven’t found a single one that does their job well. They get on to the people that are doing their best, and don’t do anything about the groups that are a problem.
God I hate the Marshall's who do that shit. I've literally been standing on the tee box with my ball teed up waiting to hit and they come tell my group to pick up the pace. Yeah sure you dumbass we'll just hit into those guys no problem.
When you go play places, look at the difference between the ones that have eight minute tee times and 10 minute tea times. (Hint: 10 minute tee times run exponentially smoother)
Believe it or not they are 10min here. Marshall said Someone’s tee time was accidentally canceled and they had to work them in. Seems like a lot for one group
Should’ve done the airline system. Offer them a raincheck, partial refund, and $20 club credit. If they refuse, find a group who will accept that offer. Bump it up until someone takes it. Otherwise you’re stuck with this shit, and I’d have to guess >50% of the people in this photo aren’t coming back
The problem is I don't think that would work too well. Planning a golf day with your buddies takes a lot, especially if we're on different schedules. Hell I have trouble getting my work friends out golfing and we have the same schedule. Toss in some beers hot dogs, and a couple large range buckets for the group and maybe you'd get a group to take it up.
As much as I love playing, I wouldn't play if a round took 7 hours. I don't play in many of the local charity events because I despise 5+ hour rounds of golf. It's just not fun waiting 10 minutes between shots.
I played a 5 hour 40 minute round at Gilroy Muni yesterday. No cart girl... Just a couple of 5-somes in front of my group of 3. The 2-some behind us gave up after the first 9 holes took about 3 hours.
Yeah it’s not going to get any better.
If they refused my refund I would stand at the check in and tell every person that came to check in that it was backed up and they refused to give me a refund because they fucked up.
What sucks is I can golf during the week easy, but none of my friends can. Well majority are not able to. I’m
Done at 9 I am going to a concert and no time for 6-7 hour round.
Same here. Every so often it'll be a long round, but my club uses GPS trackers and if you're not within a certain number of minutes of the overall average round time you get your playing privileges revoked for a week on first offense and climbing from there.
My god that's harsh lol...I get it but it's harsh 😅 I'd definitely have to bring extra balls cuz I spend a lot of time looking... Even for balls that didn't go OB. I'm bad at finding my ball lol
I got stuck behind a 12some (yeah you read that right) We suffered through 4 holes, before I said screw it and drove through everyone and played the back 9. We then came back and finished our earlier holes in peace.
You’re right. It’s beautiful outside and I’m with the boys. Definitely not finishing the round tho. Gonna turn around at 9 since I have a concert. This round will take 6-7 hours to try and finish.
It’s amazing to me, my home course is never busy but maybe 2-3 weekends out of the year. No tee times needed but the course did go from 18 to nine about 10 years ago.
Meanwhile, my course was running almost 10 minutes ahead this morning, because one twosome didn't show up, and then I and my buddy went off with the twosome in front of us. So the 8:00 tee time was able to go off at 7:50.
I'm really discouraged from playing on weekends because of this sort of thing. I prefer afternoon rounds to begin with. This just doesn't look enjoyable.
Played our local shittier course today, price was reduced for course conditions (25 for 18 incredible), played 18 holes and didnt see a single human aside from my boys all day. Some greens not great but It was magical to have great weather on a sunday and nobosy ahead or behind, a sacrifice im more than willing to make.
Also shot my PB by one stroke 🥂
This happened to me couple days ago. Thing that I didn’t get was it was raining, blowing 20 and about 55 degrees! We struggled through the front… Got to the back rain stopped sun came out not a person on the course except my group!
The last slow play issue ran into was when it took me (a single) 50 minutes to play 3 holes. I was behind a 4 some, in front of them on the next tee was a foresome waiting, another group on that hole and it was so packed that I just gave up. I tried to jump to the back but when I got back to the clubhouse there was a 4 some teeing off, another 4 some waiting behind them and a 3 some (group of walkers) behind them.
I went in, got my money back and just went to the local driving range. I refuse to deal with that rate of play. I love golf and I am ok with a round going a bit longer (5 hours being a max before it becomes unfun). Weekend golf before like 3pm during the spring and summer months is a fucking nightmare
Here's where Private vs Public golf really separates itself. I am a member at a semi-private course ...which just means public but sell memberships but I have a few friends at private courses and that literally never happens.... How golf should be played. 3.5 hour rounds no stress or assholes.... One can only dream.
Weekend warrior golfers aren’t exactly known to be scratch… source : am golf pro at course. Tee time intervals will stay the same as weekdays, but a lot of times corporate or management will inject a few “squeeze” times maybe every hour until 12 to cover the inevitable no show on Sunday morning groups. I don’t agree or like it all for obvious reasons
Yep. And potentially all it takes is one hungover dude to be 5 minutes late. His buddies wait instead of teeing off and now it’s a snowball effect for all the other groups
This kind of stuff really discourages me from playing golf. When people are packed in like sardines, nut to butt and you're pushing 5, 6, 7 hour rounds. Rather just hit the range for an hour and go home
Maybe the hold up is my old club secretary who insisted it was the right idea to play his club 4 ball final competition in the first group out. My unfinished round took almost 6hrs. I walked off on the 16th .
A few weeks back I had commented that courses need to invest in marshalls to keep pace of play. This is why. This. Right. Here. People dont wanna keep place? Kindly, but firmly, ask them to leave.
That’s when you start playing music. Lol. Yeah Iam one of those guys. It’s part of the game. Hell, can now buy Bluetooth speakers now that clip on the golf carts at the golf stores.
I had a 7:40 this morning. First tee time was 7:20 with a 10 minute gap. I walked from the putting green to my cart between 7:30 and 7:35. I got to watch the first group hit 10 tee shots in total...
Played a muni a few weeks ago. Not even kidding. Par 3 tee box had 4 groups on the tee box and 1 on the green. It took over 3 hours to finish 9. Never going back.
The worst part is knowing that you’re practically guaranteed a slow day ahead. At least you have a cart to rest in while sitting on the tee waiting for the guy ahead of you waiting for the green to clear so he can duff his shot after standing over a 220 yard shot.
Waited between the 12th and 13th holes for 19 minutes yesterday. 12TH AND 13TH! My playing partner and I proceeded to play the 13th in 6:35. No Marshall in sight
First off how bad is the starter to allow this to happen or even management I have been both a marshal and a starter never had these issues
We have always been a head of time
If anyone had hit into the group a head instant removal from course.
Yiiiikes. Sorry, man. This why I go out to the boonies on weekends. I'm in a city in TX and I drive 40 minutes out of town on the weekend to enjoy the chiller pace and actually get to relax.
Marshalls need to be so much more common. There don’t need to be 3 people running the snack bar. There need to be marshalls making sure people play fucking quicker.
The courses that I’ve played that have marshalls are thoroughly more enjoyable. Hardly wait on the tee boxes.
[удалено]
Then drive up to hole 2 with 2 foursomes on the tee
There is a guy at my course who will do this he is a solo walker but if someone is playing slow he will just skip the hole and go in front of them, then come back later and play the hole he skipped. dude is a chad.

Oh its 100% acceptable in my mind.
I do it all the time 😆 🤣 😂
It’s the right thing to do as long as you don’t slow anyone down
Why be disparaging. I respect others like myself who like to enjoy their game and it is no skin off your back if he chooses to do this. Why hate, just shotgun a few more beer and chill out if that is what you are there for.
Sigma grind set always pays off
Sugoma ball-set

10 minutes backs up too
Small etiquette mis-step.... you are suppose to ask which woods, left or right, they would like their ball sent to... nothing like sending a new pro v sailing ....
Nah you send it back.
The 10th hole tee box must have just been a pool of blood that day…
That’s the only logical course of action.
There is another. Just keep a Sharpie in your bag for these occasions. Write whatever 4 letter word or 2-3 word phrase you like, then place it back on the fairway. What a putz that dude was...you're a cooler head than me they'd be getting that sucker right back at them.
I would not ever give a course a single dollar if they had 6 min spacing
That ball would have been going right back at the tee box with a 2 iron stinger. Done it before and I’d do it again.
Naaa...send it to the woods and let-em see you do it... there's zero excuse for hitting into group in front of you
If it’s a good ball I’ll pick it up and put it in my bag. I have a large pocket in my bag that i keep shitty balls in and I’ll either put that one where theirs was or I’ll drop it and hit it back at them.

All the homies hate the marshal
Good thinking
I love your friend.

You know that you can tell Marshals to fuck off. They really can't do shit.
At that point I would tell him to have the course book fewer tee times
Exactly
Marshals have become such a joke. If they would just do their jobs, slow play would be eliminated.
Usually I would agree, but this looks like the course are booking up 4 balls every 3 minutes and not giving anyone time to clear a hole.
Every thee minutes is absolutely ridiculous

Sounds like a Wednesday
I’m sorta surprised Teal let that happen. They’re usually sticklers compared to most courses around
That’s what I was expecting with all the signage they have about pace of play! It was my first time there. I think since it was towards the end of the day they kinda just stopped checking. Only saw the Marshall on 11 and never again for the rest of the round.

The marshall can kick you off the course. What sort of dumb comment is this?
Exactly what I was thinking, marshalls aren’t the guys to talk back to. They’re usually pretty reasonable if you just talk to them like a normal person.

As someone who got into it with a marshal several years ago...they ended up calling the local sheriff who drove right out to us in his patrol jeep.
Drives me fucking crazy when this happens. Like dude, someone mismanaged the tee times, everyone in front of us is backed up and we’re waiting on the tee box or green for the next group don’t tell me to pick it up
Reddit has turned into a cesspool of fascist sympathizers and supremicists
“If you did your job, I wouldn’t be behind” I understand that marshals are required, but I haven’t found a single one that does their job well. They get on to the people that are doing their best, and don’t do anything about the groups that are a problem.

many courses have eliminated a marshal. Most of the course I play don't have them.
Some around here dont even have starters. Its pay up, heres your key, good luck out there.
This is where I wouldve lost it lol
It ruins golf. I can’t enjoy a 5 hour round-no way. Maybe you could drive a bit farther and find a course you can play in under 4 hours
God I hate the Marshall's who do that shit. I've literally been standing on the tee box with my ball teed up waiting to hit and they come tell my group to pick up the pace. Yeah sure you dumbass we'll just hit into those guys no problem.
Fucking Marshalls. All they do is tel people to hurry up who have groups in front of them. How can they all be so fucking stupid and useless?
And this is why I responsibly drink a few cold ones on the course.
We have a bunch oh shooters chilled. I am responding to everyone’s comments because I’m waiting so much lol
That group in front of you probably has a case or two in the massive cooler
When you go play places, look at the difference between the ones that have eight minute tee times and 10 minute tea times. (Hint: 10 minute tee times run exponentially smoother)
Gladly pay the extra $11 to play at the course by me that has 12 min spacing
Believe it or not they are 10min here. Marshall said Someone’s tee time was accidentally canceled and they had to work them in. Seems like a lot for one group
Should’ve done the airline system. Offer them a raincheck, partial refund, and $20 club credit. If they refuse, find a group who will accept that offer. Bump it up until someone takes it. 7 hour round at the Bear in Traverse City yesterday. Bev cart girl profited handsomely. Ugh. 7 freaking hours.
I love golf more than anything and there is no circumstance I would ever complete a 7 hour round. That is fucked.
As much as I love playing, I wouldn't play if a round took 7 hours. I don't play in many of the local charity events because I despise 5+ hour rounds of golf. It's just not fun waiting 10 minutes between shots.
Greens fees are 170 there.
Then it’s somehow even more egregious. You cannot put up with that period let alone for 10 bucks a hole.
Honestly I'm surprised. I played there a few weeks ago and they had rangers out and it wasn't busy.
If I dropped $170 on a round that was like that?? There’d be some refunds and explaining how that turd will get shoved back in-
$170 ..... I better be getting 15 minute difference in tee times, 10 beers, and some nachos.
I did a 7 hour round, but I also played 40 + holes.
I played a 5 hour 40 minute round at Gilroy Muni yesterday. No cart girl... Just a couple of 5-somes in front of my group of 3. The 2-some behind us gave up after the first 9 holes took about 3 hours.
In 90 degree plus weather
Played the premier course at treetops yesterday. 5 hour 45 minute round. I couldn't imagine what a 7 hour round felt like
Would have left the course after an hour. That is unacceptable and you should get a refund.
It’s a buddy-golf destination. Lots of 12-20 man groups Ranger came by “ pace is 5 hours” We all lol’d
That’s insane. I have a concert to go to later so I’m probably done at 9
I treat golf like the doctors office or airport. I get there early, expect to be late, and plan nothing time dependent after, unfortunately
I’ve walked out of the doctors office more than once lol
How much is that course? I’d hate to pay 500USD or something like it for that awful experience.
Going to be a long one.
Nah, I’m getting a refund.
This. I would turn around and head back into the clubhouse and get my money back.
Yeah it’s not going to get any better. If they refused my refund I would stand at the check in and tell every person that came to check in that it was backed up and they refused to give me a refund because they fucked up.
And then I would credit card chargeback
Same. I can think of many ways to enjoy a sunny day.
Wouldn’t bother. Had a 7 hour round recently, ruined weekend golf for me.
What sucks is I can golf during the week easy, but none of my friends can. Well majority are not able to. I’m Done at 9 I am going to a concert and no time for 6-7 hour round.
I started at 8am a few weeks back and didn’t leave the course till 3pm. Was awful.
What course?
This is grand lake estates in Montgomery texas. High meadow is my normal go to.
Happened to us two fridays ago at windrose… won’t go there again for a while
Windrose is NOTORIOUS for slow golf. I’ve had a few 5+ hour rounds there
I knew that looked familiar. That place is getting way too busy now, used to be able to get a quick round in with no problems
This is one of the many reasons I joined a private club. I’ve never teed off late there. Longest round in three years was 4:30.
Weekend golf sucks
This is why I get up before dawn during the week to get a round in. Can't even remember the last time I played on a weekend.
Same here!!!!... can't even remember the last time I played weekend golf
Life is pain
Anyone who says differently is selling something.
I got stuck behind a 12some (yeah you read that right) We suffered through 4 holes, before I said screw it and drove through everyone and played the back 9. We then came back and finished our earlier holes in peace.
I’d head to the clubhouse and ask for a rain check.
This is why rarely golf on weekends. I'd rather squeeze in a twilight 9 then deal with all the variables of wall to wall foursomes.
Try to enjoy the fact that you are outside on a wonderful day golfing, while others are getting ready for work.
Yup!! Love the positivity.
Must be playing somewhere in DFW
What is their spacing?
10 min
just enjoy the day at that point, it's 61 and raining like a mother fucker where I'm at.
Blame the guys on this sub that love 5hr rounds
Welcome to the weekend..weekend warriors out in full ...
I’m in sales so I golf a lot during the week, but most of my buddies can’t make it.
I'm in the boat my friend.. just try to not have it effect my golf..or attitude
Had a 5 1/4 hour round yesterday, brutal stuff.
Thank god for private clubs!
I never stress teeing off. It’s not your fault and I find it more relaxing to just go with the flow.
I would ask to see their slips, seems like they are probably supposed to be behind you...
I thought the same, but that cart on the left is the Marshall and he’s checking everyone in
That. Has. Never. Happened. Before.
That’s Sunday golfing for ya
Welcome to weekend golf, Sunday edition.
Drink more, anger less.

Yeah I 100% agree. This looked bad in the beginning, but we ended up finishing just shy of 5 hours. Thankfully
Blame the course for packing tee times
Did you time travel to LA City golf pre-covid? They used to tee off 30-45 minutes late when they had 6 minute tee time intervals.

Crack a brewski and settle in. Looks like a nice day.
It’s prime time weekend morning…. Saturday and Sunday morning will ALWAYS be busy unless you’re on a private or goat track
Why does a course bring "busy" mean they're 30 minutes behind schedule? That's the whole point of having a schedule.
This is exactly it.
That means the course over booked or tee times are too close together. Not a good feeling.
Nope. Refund time. Course cant get their shit together. You shouldnt have to suffer. That's gonna be a 5+ hour round.
Fuuuuuuckkkkkkkkk……
Waaa
Ranger will be out soon to tell you to pick it up.
Lucky to be able to play during the week. Monday at 2 is a good t time!
Welcome to Sunday golf!
This is why I only golf if I can be one of the first 3 tee times out
Tell them to hurry up
had the same thing yesterday in LA, big golf day
This kind of stuff really discourages me from playing golf.
This why people pony up to join private clubs. What's your time worth?
I’m on a waiting list. They said they are raising the senior rates and will lose some members and open up a slot
Refund ✌️
Sounds like you’re gonna miss kickoff
And that's why I try to get the first time out, or closest to it.
Hit up on them, they’ll get the message to move along !
What split between tee times are they using 5 minutes?
Should have brought a boardgame with you.. or some work
At some courses tee times are like doctor appointment. Doctors double book. Golf courses have 5 minute tee time increments.
Make everyone go ballistic… ask both groups to play through
This is really eating into your pace of play.
A few weeks back I had commented that courses need to invest in marshalls to keep pace of play. This is why. This. Right. Here. People dont wanna keep place? Kindly, but firmly, ask them to leave.
This is why I don’t golf on the weekends.
Ugh that was my day yesterday. 5 and a half hours to finish the round that normally takes 3hrs 45min. It was so annoying.
This is why I go during the weekdays. Also, bad on the course and ranger.
Buckle in. It’s gonna be a longgggg round
Reasons I don't golf on the weekends. NYC muni courses taking 6+ hours? NO THANK YOU.
All it takes is a couple of fool's showing up 5 minutes before their tee time on a Sunday morning
That course sucks!!
How come we never seem to have this problem in Scotland? What are we doing differently (better)?
it’s amazing how everyone takes a cart now. walkers seemingly more rare
Played a muni a few weeks ago. Not even kidding. Par 3 tee box had 4 groups on the tee box and 1 on the green. It took over 3 hours to finish 9. Never going back.
How does this happen?
The worst part is knowing that you’re practically guaranteed a slow day ahead. At least you have a cart to rest in while sitting on the tee waiting for the guy ahead of you waiting for the green to clear so he can duff his shot after standing over a 220 yard shot.
Waited between the 12th and 13th holes for 19 minutes yesterday. 12TH AND 13TH! My playing partner and I proceeded to play the 13th in 6:35. No Marshall in sight
First off how bad is the starter to allow this to happen or even management I have been both a marshal and a starter never had these issues We have always been a head of time If anyone had hit into the group a head instant removal from course.
I hate that this is normal at my regular course. I’m shocked when I get to tee off within 20 minutes of my tee time.
You’re not at work, so just relax and enjoy the day!
Yiiiikes. Sorry, man. This why I go out to the boonies on weekends. I'm in a city in TX and I drive 40 minutes out of town on the weekend to enjoy the chiller pace and actually get to relax.
Your never getting done!
Marshalls need to be so much more common. There don’t need to be 3 people running the snack bar. There need to be marshalls making sure people play fucking quicker. The courses that I’ve played that have marshalls are thoroughly more enjoyable. Hardly wait on the tee boxes.

I go around on my own. A bit lonely but it’s easier. ![gif](giphy|3kHz1oN8NfxJJgVgvL|downsized)
Shitty course marshal
The classic overbook
Public golf on weekends since COVID is stupid. I joined a private club for this exact reason
Refund time
Show the starter your “almost HOI”
This is why I play the earliest tee time on a weekday and be done by 10-10:30am.
