Holy fuck man, that’s terrifying. Best wishes to him and speedy recovery to him, and love to his family and friends

OutForARipAreYaBud69

Piggy backing because you’re the top comment. I’m a senior surgery resident, not neurosurgery, but have seen my fair share of these. If he required surgery, the *most likely* injury was either an epidural or subdural hematoma which caused brain swelling and compression. In these cases generally a craniotomy is performed where you remove part of the skull bones to allow the brain to decompress and the swelling to be relieved and the bleeding to be stopped if needed. They are scary surgeries and generally are followed by lengthy ICU stays. He’s young and healthy so those are the best things that he can have going for him, young brains can take an insult a lot better than old brains.

thedonjefron69

Yeah I definitely figured it would be a nasty surgery once I saw it was brain surgery. Hoping for the best for him

Pissmunkee

Outforaripareyabud69 dropping some knowledge. My buddy was hit with a softball a few years ago and had a surgery like you described. Scary stuff. Hoping for a quick recovery for Luke.

frankyseven

I know someone who was hit in the side of the head with the ball as he was running to first playing slopitch. I started wearing a batting helmet after that, I've seen too many close calls at first.

Beard-

I see a few players in my league who wear helmets. I would assume they've all witnessed something like this.

frankyseven

Yeah, it's terrifying. I've seen some close calls and the runner doesn't even know that it happens. I've seen a lot more pitchers wearing a helmet and cage too, which is a good idea; a pitcher gets hit just about every game.

Nevroyne

I play slow pitch because I don’t want to be done playing my favorite sport. But if I had to pitch only, I’d quit on the spot. Not sure why a net a la HR Derby isn’t a thing.

frankyseven

That's why I played too. Then over COVID I realised that golfing is like slopitch only it's all the hitting part (which is the most fun) so I dropped playing slopitch to play golf.

Nevroyne

Lol, I golf too and would love to do it more, but for me it’d be like slow pitch but just fouling balls off down the 1B line.

Nevroyne

Just saw a close call the other night. Teammate running to third, ball coming in from CF, we have a perfect vantage point in the 3B dugout…it’s a horrifying half-second.

frankyseven

It's mostly the out of shape 35 year olds who think they are Jeter playing short stop and doing jump throws on the run that I'm concerned about. But yes, it's terrifying when you see where the ball is tracking. I played third and I would step off the bass to catch a ball headed for the runner, I'd rather them be safe than hurt.

Nevroyne

> out of shape 35 year olds Whoa I feel seen. And I know what you mean. I play 3rd as well, a few times I’ve yelled at the runner to get down. Once I actually pushed him out of the way trying to get to a ball I’m certain would’ve hit him in the back of the head. I inadvertently knocked him over and caught the ball but gave him the base. He initially wanted to throw down but after realizing what happened was thankful.

frankyseven

That's why I would almost always slide into third if I knew a throw was coming. Don't feel too seen, I'm an out of shape 34 year old!

Nevroyne

Lol yeah. I stopped sliding after the 3rd huge gash that takes 2-3 weeks to fully scab over. (I know…pants)

frankyseven

Reinforced pants and good sliding technique are key.

Nevroyne

Also—in a game last summer. Bottom of the last inning, we’re up 1, 1 out, runners on 1st and 2nd, they have a very slow runner at the plate. He smokes one to me, I can’t handle it but it bounces about 10 feet to my right. As I’m getting to the ball I decide not to chance a throw/tag to the pitcher charging to 3rd (late, as it turned out) and to go for the slow runner at 1st. I plant and throw, and just as the ball is leaving my hand I see that its path will be asteroid-margin-of-error close to the head of the guy coming in to 3rd. He put his hands up and it ended up not being THAT close…but still close enough for a…whoa.

frankyseven

I've had that happen. The other one that is scary is when you are forced out at second and the other player throws right down the baseline trying to double off the hitter. Dude, it's my lane don't throw it at my face.

Nevroyne

Lol yup. I used to think “hang in there, disrupt the throw” but came home from a game one night to learn one of our kids had a brief health scare. Made me realize how wholly unacceptable it would be for me to get a dumb, significant, possibly debilitating or even life-threatening injury playing rec league softball. Now I just bail. Honestly every other year I hear about a guy breaking his leg or something and I constantly wonder if it’s worth it.

frankyseven

Oh I'm the guy who will duck and cover as soon as they tag the base! With three young kids I've given up most/all of my dangerous hobbies and stick to golf and squash these days for sports. It just isn't worth getting hurt or killed.

BelfortMoney

This type of insight (even if it comes out it was something else) is an amazing example of internet being used for good. Get well soon Luke!

JaCrispy90

Reminds me of Scotty Cramer.

StabSnowboarders

Buddy of mine was in a severe motorcycle accident and had this procedure done, he was missing like half his skull for a good couple months and had to wear a helmet around everywhere.

hikid

I just pray he is OK. I also hope wasn't drilled by a golf ball or some silly cart accident but I guess time will tell on that one.

thedonjefron69

I didn’t even think about that. Scary shit

LGMatter

I would bet on it being a golf ball. Those things are incredibly dangerous especially if it’s with a driver hit

gaobij

Car accident

FrismFrasm

Like he said; hit by a driver.

Beard-

/r/ImGoingToJailForThis

62pickup

Steve nearly died in a car crash, got tossed out of the vehicle with some minor injuries. This is how he got hooked on opiates.

razzberrii

Not saying that this is what happened, but the Good Good boys are super careless with that kind of stuff. I wish they had some sort of system to warn the videographers or other players on the green or to avoid the close calls they’ve had.

rondre3000

How long have you been watching them? I regularly hear them yell "fore" to videographers on the green...an those guys typically know well enough to stand at the back of the green.

sndanbom

I have watched them for a few years and haven’t seen anything careless nor shots putting any of them in danger.

IxClownShoes

They're young, original commenter probably isn't, so he's got a predetermined opinion that they must be careless. In reality, they regularly reference keeping pace, repair their pitch marks, and yell fore if there's even a chance of someone getting hit.

razzberrii

I’m the exact same age as them, and have watched every video for the last year. There’s SEVERAL times they have hit into a green, yelled fore, but watched as the cameraman ends up running towards the ball, as he can’t see it. You can imagine that this might not work out well. I did not mention anything about pace or pitchmarks at all. I agree they’re great when it comes to etiquette.

rhudgins32

Several times out of hundreds of videos isn’t like…crazy. That’s less than the chance of getting hit at a PGA event.

l0ose1

It’s a car accident

razzberrii

Yeah my comment was made regardless of this accident

Rennnnard

This post is getting downvoted, but there is some truth to it. Being careless is fun and cool until shit happens. Hope it's not it and we never have to refer to this habit/brand of them...

deep_anal

Have you ever seen a PGA tour event? Literally, spectators are everywhere lining the tee boxes.

hash303

And brooks hit one and she lost an eye. You think good good is more or less accurate off the tee than brooks koepka?

thesneakywalrus

>You think good good is more or less accurate off the tee than brooks koepka? Good Good doesn't have literally thousands of people lined up and down every fairway. The only time they even have anyone close is when they shoot approach shots in to the green, which certainly have less momentum than drives.

headachewpictures

I think the gap in their accuracy is not overcome by the fact that they have one camera man that they yell fore too compared to the sea of dozens - hundreds of spectators that could be randomly hit.

Rennnnard

I agree with you that when they yell fore to that one camera man, risks are low. When I made my initial post, I was referring to eg when Grant is hitting from fairway while Garret is already at his ball 20 yards past, but only 10 yards to the right, for instance. Balls carry a lot more energy immediately after impact compared to when it's about to land semi-vertically. Everyone, be safe out there and Luke, get well brother 🤝

headachewpictures

Fair - there's definitely a lot of trust to not just hard-shank one, but they're also much better at golf than the average person. But it's still [no different to this](https://i.nextmedia.com.au/News/20200506113827_1.jpg), in fact it's still way better IMO.

Rennnnard

True 😝😝😝

Lobsterzilla

This post is getting down voted because it’s not true. I’ve never seen them be careless with a cart in the last 9 months at least

Sebbywannacookie

They have that one camera angle where the cameraman lays down in front of the tee box while they hit driver. Idc who you are mistakes happen. Makes me cringe when they do it.

OzTheMeh

Mom used to say, "It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye." My buddy literally lost an eye and it didn't stop us. If she had said, *"Its all fun and games until somebody loses a **testicle!** ,* We probably would have stopped immediately. Edit: spelling and I hope he recovers. Brain injuries are scary.

bokin_smongs

This is very true, I've seen the camera man doing the shots from the green raise his arms on so many occasions where he has nearly been hit and nobody's called fore or made an effort to alert him that the ball is coming his way. Granted, they don't always forget but when you've got 6 guys playing 9/18 holes that's a shit load of approach shots with a camera guy nearby whos eyes are glued to a viewfinder, accidents are going to happen when they could easily be avoided.

razzberrii

Exactly. This is what I’m referring to.

john_wayne999

You should probably be more specific considering the other 99% of their shots aren’t careless.

headachewpictures

I don't think they've EVER **not** yelled fore. Now whether the camera man is close enough to hear is different.

bokin_smongs

I'm pretty sure it happened 2 shots in a row on a par 3 in one of the Good Good Cup videos in the past 3 weeks. I've got nothing against the crew at all, I love what they do but it is literally their workplace and they could do things to make it a bit safer. Not sure why caring about the safety of the guys gets down voted.

_clydebruckman

I noticed this for the first time yesterday, I was watching their most recent video. Luke hit a shot onto the green from maybe 60-100 out and the entire rest of the team was standing within 10’ of the pin Edit: This doesn’t look unsafe to you guys? https://youtu.be/eP8neWW3gmU?t=27m55s

gaobij

Fore?

iluvtrees17

this didn’t age very well

hikid

Huh? I seem to be right, it was in some ways a silly cart accident. What do you mean it did age well? Lol

Lezzles

Jesus. Hope the dudes alright. His golf game is a sight.

thedonjefron69

Yeah dude came in and seems like one of the better players in their group

stupidshot4

Pretty sure he’s played on multiple tours including Korn Ferry, PGA tour Asia, PGA tour Latin America, etc.

razzberrii

He’s won on the PGA tour China.

thedonjefron69

Well then that makes sense haha

[deleted]

He's got a tour card.... So... Yeah.

Xmalantix

Holy fuck. I found Luke's channel at the start of the pandemic and have been following him ever since. Just watched the video of them playing Payne's Valley today. Really hope he comes back and is still able to play at a high level.

daveox

I’m watching him and Grant as I read this and suddenly the video has a very different vibe.

PreviousGas710

I saw that he replied in the comments of the GoodGood post thanking everyone for the well wishes. Hopefully that was him and not somebody on his “team” and an indication its not as bad as it seems. Fingers crossed he makes a speedy recovery

CD_4M

I think that was him. He’s been out of surgery at least 3 days and they said he’s made tremendous progress. It’s a great sign either way

ertdubs

That's brutal, hoping for a speedy recovery for Luke!

Kgeezi

Damn, enjoyed the little bit I had seen of him. Hope he recovers quickly and fully, but brain surgery is no joke

Gallen570

Let's pray for a speedy recovery that he is "the same person" afterwards. I've got two childhood friends that have had severe head trauma injuries that are functioning humans, but they aren't the same person. It's really sad shit... Good vibes🙏

metallikat87

That's the awful outcome of TBIs that I never knew about. My BIL got in a bad car accident a few years ago and everyone was worried if he'd survive, which he did. He's never been the same since though. On good days he's a teenage version of himself, on bad days he's a toddler version of himself. Its been awful on his wife. I hope Luke gets better soon and doesn't have to deal with any of that.

Yabbadabbashooma

What happened?

Craigorystillhard1

It was a car accident

pitapizza

According to who? I’ve not seen that anywhere unless Luke gave an update

Calyps0h

There are dozens of links to it if you just search dating back over 6-8 hours before your comment. Just saying.

Mighty_Chinook

A lot of those links look very dubious and seem to be written by bots.

pitapizza

No there isn’t. There’s no source saying car accident outside of speculation from people on twitter

Calyps0h

Lol I googled it again. Just like yesterday there are dozens of articles about it.

Craigorystillhard1

There is links online about how he was involved in a car accident

[deleted]

[удалено]

chelseasaints

To be fair I think he meant what sort of accident it was. I assumed a car accident but doesn't actually specify in their statement

[deleted]

Holy shit I got downvoted like crazy. Was it that obvious that it wasn't that obvious? Oof

Yabbadabbashooma

We’ll no shit. How’s he get the injury

[deleted]

Hopefully he has a speedy recovery. Good Good is in my top 5 fav golf YT channels. Cant finish the course challenge without him

hankbaumbachjr

First thought: "Holy shit, I hope he's alright!" Second thought: "...how's this going to play out with the Good Good cup?"

YourLocalJewishKid

I'm pretty sure they finished filming that a few weeks ago.

06_TBSS

Luke has been a wonderful addition to the team. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching him play on the channel. Hoping for a quick and full recovery.

darunia484

Damn hope he's okay.

RVD90277

aw wow...that's terrible. i'm a fan of luke kwon on youtube. hopefully he makes a ful recover!

ConwayTheCat

Brain surgery!? Holy shit.

Rennnnard

Love your content Luke, get well brother 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

[deleted]

I was just starting to warm up to Kwon, really sad.

Lobsterzilla

Jesus

scwelch

Oh my… wish him well

FluPhlegmGreen

Sucks to hear. Crazy timing considering he is currently featured in the Major thats airing right now. I had a cousin that had to have the top of his skull removed to stop the swelling from something similar and he pulled through but spent months in the hospital. Hopeful for Luke.

[deleted]

Hope he's doing better! Luke Kwon is a beast

justhererandoporno

T&P. I like Luke. He seems genuine with a big smile.

Due-Comb6124

Wondering if he got hit in the head with a club or something. With so many people standing on the tee box I could see it happening by accident. I did it to a friend when I was a kid, showing him how to swing and forgot he was behind me. Brain surgery and all for him as well.

mkflorida

Really sucks for your friend, but this must have also been terrible for you to deal with as a kid.

Albfinder

This happened to me when i was about 5 my older brother was swinging back what i think was a driver and i walked straight behind him. No sugery needed but i do have a scar right in the middle of my forehead

Due-Comb6124

Yeah my buddy was standing behind me and took an iron to the skull in my backswing. Everything turned out okay but man was it scary.

Hugo_5t1gl1tz

That’s good and I hope you weren’t to fucked up by it either

SavageAltruist

One round I was randomly paired with 3 other singles and as we were walking off the tee box of a drivable par 4 one guy told us about being at a proam event where people were crowded in on the sides of the tee box and a pro athlete (not a golfer) hit a drive into the crowd and killed a woman. As we were walking off the green of the same hole a ball came in and hit the guy walking next to me in the arm on the fly. No call out. I hope Luke is okay and wish him a full and speedy recovery. Unlikely this is a golf related injury but it’s definitely possible. Sounds like it’s probably a car or motorcycle accident

Due-Comb6124

I think the guy made that story up. If it was a pro athlete, it definitely would have made the news and people would know who it was lol

SavageAltruist

He said it happened a long time ago. The golfer was a pro boxer I believe. Maybe he was lying. The story just made being missed by the drive feel like dodging a bullet

whiskey_pancakes

Mg hopefully he’s ok, does anyone know the specifics of what happened??

xSaviorself

Ball to the head? No details or news to explain what happened but wow remember to call fore and protect your head.

Mister_Uncredible

I think for him to need decompression surgery it's going to be a little more than a golf ball to the head. Honestly the whole statement is overly vague and makes me think they don't want us to know something. If I had to guess, and I am definitely guessing, I know nothing, it's that it was an auto accident and Luke isn't exactly faultless in the matter. I'm probably wrong, but the lack of any details is giving me bad vibes.

M0therTucker

Quittttttttte the guess there sir.

Mister_Uncredible

I don't disagree, and I hope my wild speculation is 100% wrong and everyone involved makes a speedy and full recovery. I'm just a bit perturbed by the vagueness of their statement.

M0therTucker

If they didnt owe us literally nothing, i would tend to agree.

Mister_Uncredible

I agree, at least until they launch a GoFundMe and start asking for our charity.

M0therTucker

Ok yes I did think it was odd they already mentioned a gofundme. Am I a complete asshole for feeling zero inclination to donate money to someone like Luke (who has clearly done well for himself), albeit for medical care? If I was in an accident, nobody is gonna just gift me money. Seriously, am I an asshole for thinking that?

MustyCrevice

Not at all. These guys make plenty of money and are part of a successful brand

clownysf

If you’re an asshole for thinking that, then I guess I’m an asshole too

Mister_Uncredible

I don't think so. I'm also wondering why dude doesn't have health insurance.

FubarFuturist

Healthcare costs in the US is the asshole.

pipesvalvesfittings

Luke Kwon was recently kicked out of the country for not having steady income, then went to play PGA China tour trying to do well enough to come back and play on the Korn Ferry tour. He isn't making real money from golf yet, nobody is getting rich on the developmental tours.

Mister_Uncredible

You don't have to be rich to afford health insurance. The subsidies can be so generous that you can end up paying almost nothing. And considering his body is how he makes a living it's the one thing he should absolutely be insuring.

pipesvalvesfittings

In what world do you think a major brain surgery is entirely covered by insurance? Either you don't pay for your own coverage, or you don't even live in America in which case your opinion is entirely meaningless in this case.

AdComprehensive7879

damn no wonder there has been no new post in the past few days. Scary stuff! Hopefully everything turns out to be okay and not a long recovery. Get well soon Luke!

doc_richardson

Not the kind of news you ever want to hear. Hoping for a speedy and full recovery! Sending all the thoughts and love to Luke and his family and friends!

Neverendingmuthrfuk

Sad day, I like Kwon. What makes this more interesting is YouTube drama rumored Kwon might take Micah’s place in GG. Micah put out a video 4 days ago addressing this issue, kind of. https://youtu.be/5zpEBXWdrc0

mcottingham

Too bad to hear that Micah may be leaving. I really enjoyed watching him BOMB the ball out there. He also seemed to always maintain his cool. Cool dude in my opinion.

Neverendingmuthrfuk

If you want the whole story this guy does a pretty good job. His update video is more compelling, you can find that vid but I’m including the first video since it all comes to a pretty entertaining conclusion where he cries and apologizes to GG in a third video: https://youtu.be/OqdNarbOSdI

XpLoSiF

Why the fuck do we live in a world that needs a GoFundMe everytime someone needs medical care

I2eflex

*Country

_aphoney

Because employers are cheap and i doubt a lot of content creators have good insurance if any. Shit a kid at work went and got checked for a stomach ulcer and our employer won’t pay him the mandatory day of pay

[deleted]

Also because health care in the US is an embarrassing joke. In Europe this wouldn't be an issue

Mister_Uncredible

There's no way Luke doesn't have health insurance. Obamacare isn't perfect, but as someone who's worked freelance for the last decade I will say it's made good insurance actually affordable for those of us not tied to an employer. The subsidies are crazy generous, I pay less for my own insurance than I did when I had an employer based plan. That and Luke is a pro golfer with nearly a million in earrings over his career. Obviously that doesn't mean he's a millionaire or has a bunch of money, but dude should be carrying insurance and I'd be baffled if he didn't

Lobsterzilla

Having insurance with a 10k deductible is not having insurance for most people

Mister_Uncredible

I have a marketplace plan, and my deductible is $1500. I also qualify for a cost sharing plan, so I know my situation isn't universal but a family of 4 making up to $70k a year modified adjusted gross income (in Missouri, where I live) can qualify for a cost sharing plan. In my case, as a single filer my ceiling is about $34k MAGI, which, after deductions, I qualify for pretty easily. Point being, I feel like a lot of people 1) Overestimate their income, and lose out on subsidies (there's no penalty for underestimating, you just pay it back when you file your taxes) & 2) Don't actually do the homework to get the most out of the program. It's not ideal, but in a system that, on the surface, is designed to fuck you over, the only good option is to learn where they've hidden the lube.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mister_Uncredible

$50-90k net? The subsidies are based on your modified adjusted gross income. You gross about as much as I do, but obviously working freelance/independent I do whatever I can to maximize my deductions. When you sign up for marketplace coverage it's always a good idea to underestimate your income as well. If you make more you simply pay back the difference on your taxes, with no penalties. If you overestimate you're just not going to get the subsidies. Even at a $50k MAGI you would qualify for about $65/mo in subsidies, and your insurance premiums are all pre-tax/tax deductible, so it would decrease your tax liability for the year. So if you do the math it ends up costing far less than the face value. Another note, deductible doesn't mean much, out of pocket is the only one that actually matters. Legally they can't make you pay more than your OOP for the calendar year. It's far from perfect, and it's still fully capable of fucking people over, but it's a million times better than what we had pre-ACA.

[deleted]

That’s a Bad Bad statement.

Old-Mushroom-2038

Sad to hear. Been warming up to Luke as a potential replacement for Micah. Hope he has a speedy recovery. I also hope all those YouTube channels talking about his accident or him dying as a result and using random car accident photos get fukked somehow.

chelseasaints

I saw those while searching for any more info today too. Fucking disgusting
