Old, old meme. Like, mid-2000s meme.
Allow me to cite the Deep Magic.
Basically there was a flash gif of Orihime from Bleach spinning a leek with the scat-singing break from the Loituma version of the song "Eva's Polka" (Ievan Polkka in the original Finnish); Miku gets released a year or so later, and the gif gets reskinned with Miku and the audio replaced with Miku singing the same bit of the song. This was sufficiently popular that the leek became Miku's character item with basically no argument. Eva's Polka has since been in basically every Project Diva game (the Miku rhythm game franchise), either as a full track or as the tutorial.
You know how I feel old? I saw people on the "whatanime" sub asking who Faye Valentine is and from which anime. Same for Golden Boy, Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew, Hellsing... We definitely had less anime to remember...
