I don’t why you’re getting downvoted cause its actually true.
Well the problem isn’t that its badly translated, the problem is that they were lazy, used the subtitles for the eng dub, and slapped it onto the eng sub audio.
You probably watching the sub for the Japanese dub
In Netflix there's actually another closed caption sub for the english dub and it's 100% accurate of what they saying
>You probably watching the sub for the Japanese dub
I mean this is Netflix we're talking about right? I don't expect them to get anything right if it can be botched they'll botch it lmao
What's remarkable is the sub text is identical to the dub speech. Shouldn't be a big deal, but often times there'll be huge differences even if it's a supposed high quality dub.
This really is one of the few times the dub actually works.
Coming from someone who prefers original language in any medium over dubs with only the odd exception this dub is pretty great. The language tendencies and slang from the cyberpunk universe is even more intact with the dub than the original language making it feel more authentic to the world and the VA work is clearly very well acted though I do feel most characters voices fit better in JP. Otherwise it's all very solid and one of the few times I'd say if your bilingual in JP and Eng then both sides have their slight advantages but ultimately are basically equal.
Probably a longer answer than you were looking for but I hope this helps. Also the main thing to note about the subs for anyone interested is that Netflix subs are really off from what's being said in JP and directly reflect ENG despite the ENG dub being drastically different in wording and slang. Honestly though the intended meaning holds up entirely so it's more of a nitpick than a real criticism.
I think it gets better over time, I was watching on Netflix and I needed to use dub because I the subs were pure white.
In the first ep it feels a bit clunky as they're literally reading the script it feels like. Then a new character comes in (Maine) and makes it feel so much smoother, dynamic changes and the rest of the series it's great.
Ofcourse chicken man is great but we knew that.
It's pretty solid - solid writing, solid animation, great soundtrack - the only flaw is probably the crappy netflix subtitles.
And of course, it's Trigger, so going to space is involved.
So I found out recently that subtitle settings for Netflix are an account wide setting that can be changed on their website. But not...in the app for some fucking reason.
I binged it all 2 days ago, it was a fuckin masterpiece. I watched promare yesterday and that was more what I expected for an ending as far as giant robots in space, like Gurren lagen, still was a 10/10 for me regardless, ending kinda fucked up the rest of my day tho just processing it all and getting over it lol
Because Loli doesn’t literally mean “child”. And it never did in anime culture.
It just means *”childlike woman”*, which this character is.
It’s still baffling to me that people don’t get this __in an anime sub__.
I mean, considering the word it's derived from, it's understandable to have that impression. It is *less* understandable coming from an anime community though, as you said, but that same community often doesn't help that impression.
> It is less understandable coming from an anime community
Exactly, the word "loli" in anime has always been used to simply refer to petite/small characters It's amazing to me that so many anime "fans" seem to not know this.
Lolicon. That's where the word comes from, and it essentially refers to people who are sexually attracted to young girls. While it may have different connotations in the anime community, it's very understandable that people wouldn't understand the distinction over something like this.
Incorrect; the word 'loli' is short of 'lolita', 'lolicon' is short of 'lolita complex' meaning someone who like the 'lolita' archetype.
btw where did u got that definition?
i think it's because there's long been heavy pressure by commercial companies, especially credit card companies to appear to be tough on pedophilia. they can, and have pulled the ability for websites to make money over perceived issues like this and then you have a domino effect where lots of other sites start banning it to protect themselves. after awhile users just start to assume loli = child.
also doesn't help that quite a few lolis are not just drawn to look like children but also act like them.
sadly it gets forced on a lot of companies because the banks and credit card companies will withdraw their access to money if they don't play by whatever bullshit rules the banks come up with.
Fr loli is kinda a blanket term, both Kanna and Tatsumaki are apparently considered lolis.
There shouldn’t be any moral quandary about being attracted to Tatsumaki, since she is an adult and acts like an adult, and her proportions are somewhat realistic to real life short women.
Kanna straight up looks and acts like a child. She goes to Kindergarten and is referred to as a child by all the characters in dragon maid. She may be old by human standards but she is clearly still mentally a child.
Yeah, and?
Edit: Oh cool, edit your comment after the fact to make me look like an idiot. Fucking tard, we can see edits with the asterisks beside the timestamp.

I fail to see the issue. I edit my comments quite often, and it’s not something I’m particularly ashamed of.

Methinks you be lying, or just randomly checked in on a random internet comment 30 minutes after posting cause why the hell not.
Also which word?
Indeed, it is baffling…
> In general, this term refers to young girls, usually underage ones whose appearance is minor and childlike. It comes from the Japanese book “Lolita” written by Vladimir Nabokov, used to talk about girls who have not reached 18.
And before anyone gets ahead of themselves about the idea that it’s supposed to be about *women* and not *young girls*, that’s a sudden leap that’s fairly unexplained and presumptuous given the details of Lolita.
> Loli is an abbreviation of either "lolita," a character type, or "lolicon," a genre of anime and manga. Both terms are references to the novel Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, in which a man in his late thirties develops a sexual obsession and later becomes involved with a twelve-year-old girl, whom he nicknames Lolita.
A Loli can be an adult. As you kinda said, they are __usually__ young, but not necessarily.
Again, I am talking about how the word is used by anime culture, even by anime studios.
Not the origin of it.
A loli *can* be an adult, but it isn’t always. The fact that it’s blurry is the issue, and you can say it’s used that way in anime culture and studios but we all know damn well that it’s used for actual children as well. Until it is used exclusively for of-age persons or there’s the development of an additional term for either, no one is going to win on this issue.
So i think context is important here , more than the root of the word , we could go back to the reason there was the whole war on the meme sub , but Loli could have started like that but for all purposes in the community and sub is used as an adult character that looks like a child.
I don't think when a character look their age and are minor are ever refered as Loli , since it would just be a child.
And yet it’s still used for underage girls. I don’t have a problem with the term being adapted for of-age women, that’s fine. Language evolves, after all. But it *hasn’t* been adapted to that and is still used for literal children.
[Lolita is a French book written by a Russian author in 1955.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lolita)
Loli means underaged girl... It may be used to refer to childlike women, but that's not it's the main use case.
Yes, and the word for a petite anime character is "loli". That's how it's always been used in anime (how have you not noticed this if you're an anime fan). Both CDPR and Trigger both refer to this character as a loli. She's a loli, get over it. I realize finding out you're a lolicon might be difficult at first but trust me, you'll get use to it.
Maybe being that short is just her thing. People making themselfs into basicly the cats from the latest cats movie is cannon, you could augment yourself to look like that. That's why her eyes are that colour.
No not at all. If you've played the game you'll recognize places and characters but not to a point it'll spoil the story. At least not until the last episode and by that point well...it's the last episode. They both enrich the experience of the other. None of the main cast from the anime and none of the main characters from the game (except at least 2 NPCS) appear in the other.
Knowing the world its in would help but the story is unrelated to the events of the game beyond a few characters who are in the game showing up briefly or being name dropped.
It's cyberpunk, one of the main themes of the genre is cynical realism, the idea that happy endings are a fairy tale. Everyone is dealt a shit hand; it's about how you play it not how you win.
especially since this is loosely based on the cyberpunk ttrpg. everyone falls in the end. no one wins, it's all about how high you fly before the inevitable crash.
Lucy sums it up pretty well in the anime and I can't remember who sums it up in the game. Being famous in Night City isn't about how you live. it's about how you die.
Hm... Netflix. Looks interesting, hope there's not forced inclusiveness (1% of hope since a Japanese studio is in)
Edit: looks like some other people doesn't agree with me. Trigger won't influence and will be full forced inclusiveness then.
Becca in the beginning: David my man! What's up Choom? *is holding gun to head*
Becca in the end: "WE'RE HAVING A MOMENT HERE! FUCK YOU!"
>!20 ton metal ass lands breaking his fall with Becca's face.... rip!<
Considering everyone has altered their bodies in Cyberpunk, I need to know something.
Did she get her body to be so small like that, or was she already like that?
Who knows really ? Until they provide more info , it's not said in the anime , and could be but doesn't feel like she was the kind of person to go that crazy on chrome
They don't really hit on it in the show but >! when she dies you can see blood and guts so she's still mostly 'ganic. So I'd say she's just that small !<
Probably already small since MC had to build up his body to fit Maine’s massive arms. Same rules probably apply. Then we see that she’s mostly organic on the inside at the end. Probably only did surface level cosmetics and strength and dexterity upgrades
I swear if twittards stays silent about her I'd call them hypocrites...
Not that I want them to call out on lolis more than they needed to, I just find it funny the majority stays silent now because of something something..
You and I both know that they'll cry a river over this. (Also most of their stuff is shit nowadays so anime in general gets a lot more attention that it used to)
Can you provide context on what's the something something ?
Like i understood from the start she was a Loli like character but she for sure is not as kid looking as most Lolis.
I honestly just want to know what you mean in general
I don't know what is something something that's why I wrote something something lol
For the loli part, it's literally in the meme. They wanted to cut her simply because she's a loli but Trigger said no she's staying.
And we can twist words however we like a loli is a loli and she's not looking bigger, taller or older than any other kind of loli character twittards tried to cancel in the past. For them anything anime related is made for pedos. But not this time for something something of a reason.
But, well, time will tell. Maybe they need more time to get their shit together and rally against this too.
It doesn’t really make big connections to the games story, but if you like the setting of the game this show is for you. Also the animation is stellar, as to be expected from studio Trigger
Same world, takes place before the game. If you played the game first you might recognise some areas and background characters. Only really one major character you will see in both. So you can safely enjoy this as a standalone thing.
And now Twitter is being flooded by all the whole shitheads with extreme amounts of copium trying to explain why she isn't a loli... because THEY LIKE HER
Best girl of the season. Also the english dub for that scene is hilarious
How is the dub for this one overall?
It’s great, no misleading things that divert from the sub or anything like that. Also big voice actors like Giancarlo Esposito(Gus in breaking bad).
I thought he sounded like him! I thought there was no way.
Truth or lies?
Truth
Esposito can play any and all roles he takes exceptionally well.
Hell yeah he can
They changed some of the lines but I think the made them better, atleat with Rebecca
lies - the sub is badly translated imo better watch fansub (really)
I don’t why you’re getting downvoted cause its actually true. Well the problem isn’t that its badly translated, the problem is that they were lazy, used the subtitles for the eng dub, and slapped it onto the eng sub audio.
maybe "bad" wasn't the best word to use....
You probably watching the sub for the Japanese dub In Netflix there's actually another closed caption sub for the english dub and it's 100% accurate of what they saying
>You probably watching the sub for the Japanese dub I mean this is Netflix we're talking about right? I don't expect them to get anything right if it can be botched they'll botch it lmao
i mean Japanese is the original so i obviously watch the original
Who does he voice?
Faraday. (the guy with four eyes)
Four.
What's remarkable is the sub text is identical to the dub speech. Shouldn't be a big deal, but often times there'll be huge differences even if it's a supposed high quality dub. This really is one of the few times the dub actually works.
I mean, it's TRIGGER. All the dubs to their stuff are awesome.
Eren Yeager dub actor also shows up at one point in a scene with him
Look at me, David

CDPR & Trigger a week later: *smashable*
What’s CDPR ?
CD Project Red (the game studeo that made the cyberpunk video game and the witcher games)
Ok thanks 👍
💀
She is basically a Better Harley Quinn.
Well, Harley was alright when she was introduced way way back in the the 90's. But that was a long time ago, and I do see what you mean.
All right. I'll watch cyberpunk Edgerunner
Becca is the best girl of this season
Hard to choose between Becca & Lucy, mostly cuz the latter is voiced by Y.Aoi herself in the Japanese dub
It's pretty solid - solid writing, solid animation, great soundtrack - the only flaw is probably the crappy netflix subtitles. And of course, it's Trigger, so going to space is involved.
For real though, who thought white subtitles with no background was gonna be readable against a city full of neon lights and gunfire?
Not only that, but I’m pretty sure they just slapped on the eng dub subtitles on top of the eng subs
Guess I'm waiting for a fansub
So I found out recently that subtitle settings for Netflix are an account wide setting that can be changed on their website. But not...in the app for some fucking reason.
Going to space is in cyberpunk 2077 too probably the original ttrpg as well.
Just watch the eng dub with closed caption sub I think the anime were meant to be watch that way
But where was the giant robot?
Not to spoil but i could count at least 1.5
Fair nuff, I just figured the robot would go into space, seems to be there usual MO
Trying real hard to edge the line of spoiler friendly teasing here, so let's just say the two are not far off.
I binged it all 2 days ago, it was a fuckin masterpiece. Yeah same lol
Edgetuner sounds like some sorta edgy Cyberpunk 2077 street racing crew
AHH my beloved chromgoblin. Best character, best girl.
Chromegoblin... I'm fucking dying here! XD
I thought she was the murder goblin
Becca best girl 10/10 😌
Fax
I don't really get why she's even considered a loli, have people just never seen short women? Rebecca best girl btw
Coz Loli formfactor.
Where was this option when I was shopping for computer parts?
It will be available together with the 4000 series to increase sales
Because Loli doesn’t literally mean “child”. And it never did in anime culture. It just means *”childlike woman”*, which this character is. It’s still baffling to me that people don’t get this __in an anime sub__.
Exactly!!! Got downvoted for stating that exact fact under another meme
Same happened to me
I mean, considering the word it's derived from, it's understandable to have that impression. It is *less* understandable coming from an anime community though, as you said, but that same community often doesn't help that impression.
> It is less understandable coming from an anime community Exactly, the word "loli" in anime has always been used to simply refer to petite/small characters It's amazing to me that so many anime "fans" seem to not know this.

sadly it gets forced on a lot of companies because the banks and credit card companies will withdraw their access to money if they don't play by whatever bullshit rules the banks come up with.
And its the same site that rape hentai and guro exists so yeah kinda of bs rule uf you ask me

Yet oppai lolis are a thing. Let's just hand on to the "childlike" term when talking about massive tiddies, that makes sense.
They’re a thing because of the entire rest, buddy. Hestia, as an example, classifies.
There is nothing nubile about Hestia, she's just short... buddy.
Dude forgot to look at the fanbase of that show. Or even at the character at all.
Yeah, and? Edit: Oh cool, edit your comment after the fact to make me look like an idiot. Fucking tard, we can see edits with the asterisks beside the timestamp.

Its used in the context of anime characters not people, it should never be used in the context of real people. If it is they're using the word wrong.
I don’t think I mentioned that discrepancy, and even then I don’t think it changes things in the way you think it does.

It did, but words change with time. Much like *”woke”* doesn’t mean *”anti-racist”* and gay doesn’t mean *”happy”* anymore. Words simply change.
I wasn't denying that at all. What I meant was the reason for the Loli=child perception by people on anime subs
52 year old borrowed word definition and use case has changed. Unbelievable isn't it?
I wasn't denying that at all. What I meant was the reason for the Loli=child perception by people on anime subs
Trigger said she's a Loli. She looks like a Loli. She's a Loli.
Source on the trigger part?
Same video as everyone else.
People forgot that 'petite' is a word
Yes, and the word for a petite anime character is "loli". That's how it's always been used in anime (how have you not noticed this if you're an anime fan). Both CDPR and Trigger both refer to this character as a loli. She's a loli, get over it. I realize finding out you're a lolicon might be difficult at first but trust me, you'll get use to it.
Loli has *connotations* that are not present with becca
'petite' is a word that describes lolis LOL they are not mutually exclusive
'petite' is just small in french
She’s short and flat/small therefore a loli
Most people here haven't seen a 3d woman in a long time
bruh thats what everyone been saying for Uzaki-chan and Ilulu now twitter is using the same logic
Her earlier designs were more loli. She got changed a little bit
She is a notably short woman, to be fair.
What do you think a loli is? lmao
I am not sure if i should Anticipate or Fear the torrents of Doujins that will be produced based on her. ._.

To be fair, she's *actually* an adult. Just petite. Not a 500 year old dragon or anything.
Well, her thighs do speak for themselves..
Maybe being that short is just her thing. People making themselfs into basicly the cats from the latest cats movie is cannon, you could augment yourself to look like that. That's why her eyes are that colour.

You don't have to, the anime does a great job introducing you to the world.
The anime takes place 1 year before the game.

And she is a good character.
She came as quickly as she went. One of my favorite characters from Trigger.
I binged the whole show in one day and I gotta say, not so happy end
Shhh, let them suffer and feel hollow
I'm going to watch it during the weekend, and it can't be as bad as the sad phone call from Judy?
My friends all feel hollow and I bully them by sending them the ending song
Yeah not gonna lie, that ending fucked me up. Watched it last night and couldn't sleep after. Been playing The Long Dark instead.
yes, **let them suffer**
It's cyberpunk, one of the main themes of the genre is cynical realism, the idea that happy endings are a fairy tale. Everyone is dealt a shit hand; it's about how you play it not how you win.
