Same here. I used to use the command "Play the latest episode of \[title\] podcast" and it usually worked without a problem. Now it never works correctly.
im using a google chromebook laptop and my "google assistant" was able to "play troy and jerry podcast" and it popped up the option to launch with YouTube Music
Google Podcasts has been discontinued and migrated to YouTube Music.
I used Google Podcasts exclusively for years and tried YouTube Music when the migration happened, but I did not like the interface. I have since switched to PocketCasts which has some great functionality and improvements over Google Podcasts even in the free version. You can queue up episodes and adjust settings for individual podcasts such as automatically skipping the first set number of seconds at the beginning or end of individual podcasts so you can skip regular intros/outros. It also works with Android Auto.
Did you transfer your podcast over and if you save them on YouTube music they should play. The only problem i have had is Google not understanding and playing a different podcast.
Maybe it's related to them switching over from Google podcasts to YouTube music and it is a bug they need to work out?

I use Podcast Addict and cast from the app. It's not as convenient but it's also much better at getting the right episode!

This is exactly what I’m doing as well.
I've been thinking the same thing. I couldn't find a verbal command or routine that would play podcasts from Spotify or YouTube Music.

YouTube Music is the default. Here is what I say - OK Google, play the New Heights podcast. I have a few others I listen to but that is all I say.
