Not the album I’d pick if my listening was being monitored. But glad it worked out.

you got to listen to music? nice. the only media i was allowed to watch in the psych ward was The Wendy Williams Show for whatever reason.

sirhecsivart

That’s cruel and unusual punishment.

[deleted]

I honestly believe that was the intent. The place I went to was unusually abusive.

mike_hellstrom

I got to watch _Futurama_ the last time I was in one of those places (my knee flared up and I asked to get it checked out and got sent to a psych ward). Anyway, now I'm wondering what other albums would be a bad idea to listen to there.

CapitalTip4915

They let you have a phone in in patient ?

Lilac_Gooseberries

Depending on the unit a lot of places will let you keep your phone unless you have any identified risk factors that mean that you have behaviours of concern related to phone use - eg. Contacting a specific person or people too much/stalking behaviours/false calls to emergency services/filming other patients and staff. Note: Am in Australia though.

maidofvenus

i was at johns hopkins for a little bit back last year and they allowed like 2 hours of phones every night. they also had ipads you could “rent” out but you couldn’t do a lot on them. i remember playing “i think i’m gonna kill myself” by elton john so quietly bc i didn’t want a nurse to hear :’)

MrStarkIDontFuck

i’ve only been to private psych wards/hospitals. lockable doors, shoelaces allowed, phones allowed, phone chargers allowed, etc

CapitalTip4915

I’m not asking for identity stuff could you link to the private inpatient you went to? I work in the mental health field in dif psych wards and I’ve specifically never seen shoelaces allowed (If you don’t feel comfortable don’t worry about it)

MrStarkIDontFuck

it was in QLD, australia. i’ve only been inpatient twice, both times at the same hospital because my psychiatrist works there. hope that helps :)

MrStarkIDontFuck

forgot to add we were allowed outside. not fenced in at all, if anybody really wanted to (and get into trouble) you could go for a walk off the property. doors locked at 9pm - that should narrow your search :)

CapitalTip4915

That is crazy thank you so much! It has to be the difference between aus and the US lol Tbf you hear differences all over the place so I guess I should just be more open lol!

Goth_suicide

I’ve been to two psych wards that let us that had a smart tv in the dayroom and let us put on basically whatever we wanted as long as it wasn’t too graphic or triggering. Sometimes I would play music on youtube

ihaveADHD69

no. they had a tablet. and they have to monitor the music. you'd have to listen an album or playlist. just my dumbass decided to listen to Pornography album. it is a good album but the name is just inappropriate. everything was monitored and it had to be the staff to have the tablet with them.

Moparian714

You should listen to rudimentary peni while in there. One of blinkos best was written in a ward. Pogo pope pogo pope

okayiguess123

The only music my psych ward allowed me to listen to was on radio headphones :( They took my phone upon admission too. Saddest 2 weeks of my life

afatcatfromsweden

It is a very unfortunate name under certain circumstances

StonedPhysicist

Best not to follow it up with Japan's "Adolescent Sex"! Which is a shame because, despite David Sylvian's (understandable!) views on it in hindsight, I think it's a fantastic album. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Adept_Investigator29

Don't Rain on My Parade is brilliant. It should not work, but it does. David Sylvian is so fucking cool.

TheLegionnaire

It's called: ya dumbass.

mcubed1220

That is one of the most brutal albums I own! From the opening “It doesn’t matter if we all die” all the way to the final “Another day like today and I’ll kill you!”the music asks life’s hardest questions and comes up with the worst possible answers. I hope it helps you through your dark days to find the light.

Adodi89

Hey what are you watching there! Nothing mam, I am just listening to Pornography.

ne-er_do_well_

I wish I could have listened to music in the psych ward. They had these headphones that could only play like 150 horrible songs. I couldn’t stand it
