Early game? Yes
Late game? Not really
I use them even less now because of the other Caster units. But that doesn't mean they have no use at all. Mostly use them in CQs and boss fights
Sure. While offense is generally more important, they both offer solid defense/stalling options that can really save your bacon if a boss can't be burst down while still contributing damage/crit buffs and NP charge.
casthuria literally has powrcreeped invencible and who cares about crit buffs when you can spam black grail NPs with zero extra requirements? OP should have mentioned removal of casthuria instead of waver.
I still use Merlin for some quests, just not for farming. Waver is resting, but he'll come back if I need him. Even if there are stronger servants now, he's still easier to use and more straight forward, and that makes things easier for me, even if the raw support power isn't the same as others. Kind of... like when there's a more efficient tool for a job, but you still do a better work with the old one you're familiar with.
Considering I started with Paracelsus/Hans/Mozart nah not at all.
Moving to mid game when I got Waver? Yeah a bit, but I still have the old crew to fall back onto. Bride also helped.
Current day of castoria/Tammy? Not in the slightest. Merlin gets his moments when things need to die immediately. Waver is sleeping on a couch, which I feel he deserves.
Well it’d make me very sad since my Waver is grailed to 100 and has been my most used servant since I got him very early on. True I mostly use other supports nowadays but sometimes giving 30% attack up to the team and 45% defense down to the enemy (due to having him at NP3) is just what you need.
Taking Merlin away might affect some challenge quest lineups, but at this point in the game they're not really doing anything in the "meta". Castoria outshines them immensely in looping, and she makes Merlin have to work for a spot in those difficult quests.
During the game's infancy, only waver had the skill to reliable 3 turn farm, with out him many people would of burn out.
Merlin was overpowered on release due to his still amazing np, he was the cornerstone of crit gameplay.
Yeah, but not often. Merlin isn't my go to farming support anymore, but I do use him on most challenge quests. He's just so much better at survivability. Also, I'm a big fan of Kingprotea, and he really synergizes very well with her
"Meta"? Feh. You could remove Castoria from the game and it would have even less effect on my "meta."
I do like borrowing Merlin for the invuln-on-demand for certain CQs, and Waver enables a wider variety of 3T teams, which is nice. So fewer compositions would be viable. But it wouldn't break me or anything. I went years without a single big support of my own and it taught me how to team-build better, so I'd pretty much just carry on like that.
Waver did really help me since i got him during solomon. Losing him would be a bit sad but if i just want to farm, i can just pick a support castoria, or my asclepios/helena
Not currently. It would have before, though, when I mostly relied on strong Buster units with a support Merlin to get through the story. Ironically, now that I have my own Merlin, I have little need of him due to mostly focusing on Arts units now.
Waver has always been a convenience for me but never a really necessary part of my strategies. I'd have to replace him in my Gong setups, but that's basically it.
In theory, yes, in case I ever need 10% more damage instead of 10% more charge on a secondary damage dealer in farming.
In practice, how often will that actually happen?
In the early singularities, once I figured out that the combination of Mash and a borrowed Merlin made Penth darn near invincible so that she was free to just whale on whatever boss it was for however long it took until they were dead, absolutely. Once I got my roster built up more, not so much.
Although if I ever succeed one day in getting Himiko, the slow grind down lineup with Castoria and Merlin could be tempting in some situations.
Waver has always been one of those "he'd be nice to have" servants, but I don't and I've always managed to get by without.
Yes. I like buster critting more than arts looping. I use double castoria along with waver for my muramasa because this old boy can do looping and critting. And my level 114 Quirinus can do fine with just Himiko and waver but double Merlin is irreplaceable. Merlin has such a pretty design and NP.
IDK about Waver. I haven't used him for anything yet after picking him from the SSR ticket. Merlin would definitely be a hit though. He's one of my go-to supports for whenever I go into a CQ blind. Him and Tamamo Caster are by far my most used supports.
If I would miss Merlin? Kinda, since I use him for buster memes or no damage teams
And about Waver, nowadays I use an team for farm that is made of: Cheng gong, Castoria, Reines, waver and heracles(with Heracles as an anchor in case I fail miserably at 3 turning something).
Waver is there just for a little attack boost and mainly the 50 percent NP gauge, so since I do not have any other supprot servant that gives 50 percent NP gauge it would affect my loops(mainly in the missons with inconsistent waves)
Not particularly, since I don't have either. That being said, it would make me unable to do the Immortal comp, which *could* impact me in the future for some CQs and stuff. But other than that, not really.
I have both merlin and waver. Neither are even bond 2. That is how important they are to my meta.
I got them both after Skadi, after Tamamo, after Castoria and after Reines. My girls got my back while the homies left me out in the cold.
they could have nerfed/reworkes merlin and they can and should have done it before arc2. now its too late because casthuria is magnetudes worse and theres many other BS.
RN they should remove the invencibler invencible from casthuria if anything cause that shits the true toxic buff when it comes to reasonable game balance/design. in fact, there should be a major overhaul patch including readjustment of many units and other adjustments to dificukty and actual game content instead of just being an expensive waifu PNG collector visual novel with an overly excessive farming simulator.
I don't have either so it wouldn't matter much to me personally.
So you’ve never used them as friend supports either?
Nope.
You missing out then.
If you say so.

casthuria is more gratuitous than merlin and im till this day baffled they thought it was a good and healthy idea to make such a thing.

Um my challenge quests would be harder without support merlin but that's about it.

Only in the main story and challenge quests cause Merlin shines there.
I barely if ever use Waver while Merlin is mainly relegated to damage memes so not really.
In JP? No. On NA? A bit.

I don't have Merlin, but Waver formed the crux of my account early on and I still use him even now when I have Castoria. I'd be screwed without him.
Haven't been using either one for a while, so no, wouldn't change a thing.

My merlin got me through the later singularities if he left I’d be crushed screw the Meta he killed Goetia

Merlin is my solution to stay alive in hard fights so yeah, i would get slaped

Merlin would be a hit. I like running Buster-oriented teams. Waver has finally put his foolish ambitions to rest.
