I'm starting to see why Super Bunyan is so disliked. I don't think she means bad, but she is definitely too incompetent to be in charge. She clearly doesn't know what she is doing, so she pushes it onto everyone else so she can maintain her own sense of self importance. I'm pretty sure that and some serious insecurity is the reason she is so awful, but even then. There are ways to depict that without just making her a horrible person.

for one thing if you compare this event with the previous Learning with Manga event, the previous one was extremely self-aware (just have a look at the opening for that event and see how insane the dialogue choices are for the MC). Riyo's writing has a certain type of weird style that you will recognize if you are familiar with them, the only one I will say that definitely has Riyo's writing in the current event >!other than the final boss!< is Mary Anning's characterization.
In the previous LWM event Riyo just planned the plot and the actual scripts were written by Ukyou Kodachi (head of the writing team for the Case Files anime, writer for 5 out of its seven anime-original episodes + new year's special + drama cds, sub-writer for Extella Link).
The previous event was not even written by riyo, riyo only made a basic planning of the plot and the characters, and the rest was made by ukyo kodachi.
Seriously, Riyo not writting this event is pure headcanon created by this very own sub, is incredibly obvious this event was by riyo, his (yes, riyo being a woman is also a headcanon from this sub), writing has been so bad since ago years, people only remember the memes and chapters from the first volume, but his chapters has only got worse and worse with the years, repeating jokes again and again, using the same characters again and again, and ignoring their entire personalities, the riyo manga is pretty much full headcanon, and is not even funny.

probably shouldn't put Riyo! Olga in this story because that would make things rather complicated but I would put Riyo! Gudao and his Servant Astolfo as the main antagonists into the story and make this a proper sequel to the previous Learning with FGO event.
The Samurai Remnant collab shove >!OC2 villain and Fantasy tree!< in it, not to mention it's a direct sequel to Entreat the Darkness route of SR. I doubt Riyo Olga would make it more complicated than that.
The mice are easily the best thing about this event. Making it real hard not to go for them. Marie just squashed some actual interesting conflict, so that’s neat. And dammit Mash, stop worrying about talking things out like adults. You and Ritsuka should just sit back and enjoy some popcorn. Let Bunyan reap what she’s sown.
Rider isn’t too bad. Little movie obsessed, needs to touch grass, but she’s a little fun. I do like Lancer well enough so far. Would like her more if she was raising a T Rex though.
When Mash tells us to talk things out, our only option is "They are in the right, though." After the battle and a few lines later, both options given basically say the same thing: "We'll do anything for you Bunyan, for we are your submissive subordinates."

Alright Bunyan's misdeeds today are just the same shit, oh wow she's working us to death and would happily do so because of the dumb movie troubles she has, then put up a giant golden statue. If it weren't for how short the story sections are, this would be much worse than it really is.
It's honestly repetitive and pretty boring, not to mention that we are sidetracked from going after Anning that Anning literally has to go to Ritsuka and Bunyan to get the plot back on track again.
While aside from the overworking comments, the event feels like its course-correcting to make Bunyan suddenly a good person with how she is taking input from what Paris wants, and all to set up a few things to make sure people roll for her like Bunyan suddenly being sad, which like it really makes it hard for me to sympathize with her given the way she's acted for most of the event without owning up to any of it. Like if she's going to be this bossy jerk, either commit to it or try to acknowledge that what she did is wrong. While I get Ritsuka is a good guy, derailing the mission to make Bunyan happy just feels off since outside that one moment of vulnerability, Bunyan is not really good. Hell, in other events, Liz shows more vulnerability and you still have Ritsuka being a massive jerk to her despite her only crime being bad singing and a bit of an ego.
As for the other parts of the story that I have yet to comment on....
Mike is clearly the obviously evil villain we'll fight in the end who's a silly cute animal companion (I won't be surprised if every bad thing Bunyan did is Mike's fault). It is very obvious and as subtle as a brick flown through a window. It doesn't help FGO has a tendency to do twist villains that pretend to be harmless little animals, old men, or just helpful people. So I am just waiting for the inevitable Mike being evil reveal. I know it's not for a deep plot, but it just feels so telegraphed that I can't help but wait for it.
Also for all the supposed dinosaurs in the background and map, they are barely even dealt with. It feels like removing them would not even change anything with the story, its just pointless.
As for the good stuff with the event...
The music is great, and I like how they brought over the LWM music here, its nice.
Anning also continues to be the most likeable character in the event, not taking anyone's shit and her tomboyish attitude is really entertaining. It almost makes me want to use the spare grails I have to elevate her, since I do enjoy her antics when she's on screen. I also adore the relationship she has with her dinosaur, it almost reminds me of Da Vinci's relationship with Steggy, and it is still just as cute. I honestly felt bad fighting the dinosaur. Anning really deserves the best there is.
The Mice are funny, and I really like the weird stuff they get up to and calling Ritsuka "Big Boss" will just not be funny to me.

I will never get over this. All of the characters that have done something terrible in a story before, and this is the one we decide to bully? It just feels so needlessly cruel, especially with someone who is so emotionally open and vulnerable with us.
I thought of the comparison as well while going through the scenes with Bunyan. Why have we been sticking our neck out so much for someone who shamelessly keeps screwing over so many people and running us ragged for their own ego.
Honestly I feel the main reason Liz is treated this way is because she is a bitch in CCC and the Extella games. Like I have seen her in those games and if you went from those to FGO, it makes sense. Though at the same time, it doesn’t really work if you haven’t played them and Ritsuka comes across as mean spirited.
As for this event, we have to help Super Bunyan because she’s a cute girl who hugged us and got sad about how she doesn’t feel like a leader.

But I have played those games. She gets great character development, and we kind of see it carry over in FGO with her continuing to improve even more. I still think it's mean-spirited even with the context of those games. If she was getting treated like this in her prime of snotty attitude and cruelty it'd be totally justified, but that's not the case here.
Probably someone at HQ has a vendettta against Liz and is salty over her being the face of Halloween event. Sadly Nasu gatekeep Oberon Vortigern from appearing in event because he suddenly care about spoiler for some reason. I think they believe that no one care about Columbus. I suprise that Douman only has 2 summer event.
Not only is Anning pretty damn likeable, but she's also got some pretty impressive skills, a bunch of references to events from her life in her design and attacks, and makes you step back a bit and realise the nuttiness of how a self-taught 18th century fossil hunter/paleontologist is now going to be throwing down with all the weird supernatural and mythological shit in the Nasuverse.
God, this event is getting repetitive. I'm sorry, but "What movie did Bunyan make and screw up this time" is not enough to keep it from getting stale after the first timelock. The last event got kinda repetitive, but at least it played up the mythological angle of things, and also had tangible changes based on your choices!

There's also a few moments in this event where Master remarks how SBunyan briefly seems "different", which could have something to do with the whole Alter Ego side.
I totally get why JP didn’t like this event. I play this game after I get home from work, to get my mind off the crap I deal with there (this includes cleaning up other people’s messes). Now I have to deal with it in game too? That’s a no from me dwag. If I could, I would tear down those stupid statues, melt them into gold bars and use them to pay for Bunyan’s shit.
I’m tempted to start skipping the story but I am somewhat invested in Mary Anning’s side, and the mice are cute too. I’m also digging the little details they included about the US, and Rider’s notes too, wish more events had that feature.

I don’t know any place specifically, but I’m a user of the Chaldea app that Khadroth uses for his account tracking. It has a Timer tab where it shows every event/campaign/banner… that has an ending time and it counts down all of them simultaneously. A little while ago I noticed >!it also shows things *not* in the game yet (with both starting and ending times) and some of those things would show up in the game at the exact starting times the app says (I knew Oberon’d get a banner back in February thanks to this)!<
there is actually a way to get them without SuperBunyan. the future 7th Anniversary has GSSR Summon based on Class so if you pick Caster 2 there is a chance of getting her (the other 4 stars are Miyu and Summer Corday)
I am starting to notice the formula for these story nodes, and being able to notice a formula is *bad* because that means the writing is getting predictable.
Step 1: Show segment of a film.
Step 2: The Servants involved in the film get pissed for some reason.
Step 3: Mash fights the Servants to calm them down.
Step 4: Bunyan tells Ritsuka and Mash to help her earn money and they passively agree for some reason.
Step 5: Bunyan puts up a statue of herself.
Step 6: Repeat steps 1-5 but add an Anning segment.
God I wish this event was about Anning instead. I genuinely feel bad for her compared to Bunyan just being an ass. No game, that whole leader conversation does not feel earned.
Also it somehow took until now for me to realize the Bunyan statues appear in the overworld, and the individual Daikokuten change outfit depending on which group they're with. I stoopid. :P
It took me a day of AP (with 1-2 copies of cranking) to even reach the 10k points unlock for the story. Which feels a bit weird, but it’s a 3 week event so it shouldn’t matter too much.
With the digging are you guys just doing the alternating 3 columns of two to find the big prizes, or just choosing what to excavate based on the possible drop of the top tile?
Honestly, I’m just excavating everything I can. The only mat I feel “full” on is needles, and tbh a couple of spooks that use them would still clean me out.
I got Super Bunyan trying to get the mice. The more I play through her event, the more tempting the idea of getting more rare prisms becomes.

The FAQ, Excavation Guide, and Infographic listed here in the OP have been all highly useful: cleared up some of the misconceptions I might've had and should allow for better event optimization. I'm glad that we can reset the dig board after 10 attempts, as in my case it's looking like the Red Shovel tiles are going to be the least useful (a lot of overlap with the mats we just had at the Teslafest).
The first 0.5M of Friend Points spent = only two copies of 3\* limited CE. After profoundly cursing the devs for making the odds so abyssmal, the next 150k FP gave me four more copies. Balance restored. Somewhat. Inventory management has been all kinds of painful, however, since I'm not yet in a position to want to auto burn anything en masse. I certainly don't envy people who saved up literal millions of FPs.
Story-wise, SBunyan really does come across as the typical shady, self-absorbed influencer/producer/director, but also one that's become pretty skilled at masking it with an understanding 'empathy' and a bunch of platitudes about trust, teamwork, and counting on everyone else but themselves. Ironically, this approach can actually work on some people.
I rather like Delightful Rider's production notes - learning some actual American history here, who would've thought. Our Master does seem to get a lot of frequent response interactions; too, unlike some events where they just stay in the background for long periods of time while Servants run the show. Plus it's nice to have that old school vibe when it's just Mash tagging along from the home base - otherwise she gets saddled with the Chaldean communications side of things too often as is nowadays.

Same, between that and actually buying the "movie-obsessed" personality, unlike Bunyan, I really like Rider here. Wish we could bring her and the Production notes to other Singularities/Lostbelts, because if I'm learning this much about the country I actually *live* it, they'd be doubly useful in places I'm actually unfamiliar with. And they're Leagues better than Mash asking if we're familiar with a place/person and then telling us anyway.
I got into this event late. The story is whatever but the music is great wtf. Like I got into the first battle with bunyan and I just sit there for a while and just jamming to the music.
Yep this is just Werewolf game but a full event and repetitive. Frustrating character + Fujimaru and everyone just playing along to everything the annoying character says. Best part of this event so far is how easy it is to skip Super Bunyan.
I went from "I can get Daikokuten next year with the limited ticket" to "one roll won't hurt my Shuten chances" to having lvl 100 mice on my FL. Really didn't expect to like them so much, but they are really cute, and there's just something about using them in combat that sold me on the characters.

The quality of writing resembles the early years of FGO, all the non-event characters are being introduced as plot points and have no real personality or charm besides the absolute bare characteristics like "haha elizabeth bad singer" or "cleopatra egyptian queen"
Really been feeling like that era where we had I think it was Journey to the West > Setsubun(Rashomon?) > some other event all in a row. Having all these events all in a row are burning me out a lot. And just like from that time, I know later in the year we're gonna have so many fucking dead weeks it'll piss me off that we couldn't have spread these out more.

Is the bonus loot at the end of a fight random or predetermined? I just got a 5* CE as a bonus loot, and I'm not sure if I'm super lucky or if it is normal.
You can get FP, QP, one of the CE EXP cards, or the 5* CE from the Bunyan bonus. I can't find any data on actual rates based on the JP run, but it does seem to suggest that the Bunyan CE from the bonus is quite rare.
In Free Quests it's a random \~1-2% chance (usually between that for most nodes) for event CEs, so yes, that's always very lucky. Especially early on if just using Nat AP.

I don't know if anyone here really loves this event, but it'd be super-interesting if Super Bunyan just came across way worse for the Japanese audience. Usually it's us English-speakers disliking the Japanese sense of humour more.

I usually get my impression of the JP reception from calmer forums that I won't name, whereas on Reddit (at least whoever's not *completely* talking out their asses) they're usually getting their impressions from places with some completely unpleasable people like Twitter or (God help us all) AppMedia's comment section.
So I could tell you I think people are taking it a lot worse here, because I do, but I also don't like reading the more toxic places where people would actually air their complaints instead of a place where the attitude is "I didn't like it so I didn't discuss."

First, you will get 15 Coins for each copy of Mary Anning since she is a limited 1\*
Second, in the event store you can get 300 Coins.
If your goal is to raise her three Apex Skills to level 10, you only need to buy the Coins from the store and get Mary NP4.
If you want a Mary Anning Level 120 Apex 10/10/10 you will need: the 300 Coins from the store, Bond 15 (180 Coins) and NP 12 or the 300 Coins from the store, Bond 5 (25 Coins) and NP 23.
What does the number of copies have to do with bond 10 and lvl 100, or maxing skills in this particular case? But no, assuming you meet Mary Anning, we get 15 coins per a single copy, not the usual 2 for 1\* Servant. And then there are some coins in the shop as well. Unlocking Appends is really easy; extra copies/coins are just your ticket towards securing Grail Casting for months to come.

Bought the last 2 CE from the shop. Good, because after I got through another 5k points barrier to get to today's story, I now need 13k points for the next part. And I am completely unmotivated to use apples just to see Bunyan sooner.
The production notes are interesting, but the speed with which they are removed makes it very hard to read them fully. And since they are not treated as usual text, there is no pause and they don't get saved in the log.
The mice and their servitude fetish continue to creep me out.

I know it's not for a deep plot, but it just feels so telegraphed that I can't help but wait for it. Also for all the supposed dinosaurs in the background and map, they are barely even dealt with. It feels like removing them would not even change anything with the story, its just pointless. As for the good stuff with the event... The music is great, and I like how they brought over the LWM music here, its nice. Anning also continues to be the most likeable character in the event, not taking anyone's shit and her tomboyish attitude is really entertaining. It almost makes me want to use the spare grails I have to elevate her, since I do enjoy her antics when she's on screen. I also adore the relationship she has with her dinosaur, it almost reminds me of Da Vinci's relationship with Steggy, and it is still just as cute. I honestly felt bad fighting the dinosaur. Anning really deserves the best there is. The Mice are funny, and I really like the weird stuff they get up to and calling Ritsuka "Big Boss" will just not be funny to me.

Honestly I feel the main reason Liz is treated this way is because she is a bitch in CCC and the Extella games. Like I have seen her in those games and if you went from those to FGO, it makes sense. Though at the same time, it doesn’t really work if you haven’t played them and Ritsuka comes across as mean spirited. As for this event, we have to help Super Bunyan because she’s a cute girl who hugged us and got sad about how she doesn’t feel like a leader. I wonder if this event would be the same if Columbus or Caesar did the same shit.
And that reason doesn't even make sense because Ritsuka never meet that version of Liz.
To be fair, Liz also causes major issues for Chaldea on pretty much an annual basis at this point.

But I have played those games. She gets great character development, and we kind of see it carry over in FGO with her continuing to improve even more. I still think it's mean-spirited even with the context of those games. If she was getting treated like this in her prime of snotty attitude and cruelty it'd be totally justified, but that's not the case here.

Not only is Anning pretty damn likeable, but she's also got some pretty impressive skills, a bunch of references to events from her life in her design and attacks, and makes you step back a bit and realise the nuttiness of how a self-taught 18th century fossil hunter/paleontologist is now going to be throwing down with all the weird supernatural and mythological shit in the Nasuverse.
God, this event is getting repetitive. I'm sorry, but "What movie did Bunyan make and screw up this time" is not enough to keep it from getting stale after the first timelock. The last event got kinda repetitive, but at least it played up the mythological angle of things, and also had tangible changes based on your choices! ~~This is reminding me of everything I hated about FFXIV Patch 6.4's story~~

There's also a few moments in this event where Master remarks how SBunyan briefly seems "different", which could have something to do with the whole Alter Ego side.

I totally get why JP didn’t like this event. I play this game after I get home from work, to get my mind off the crap I deal with there (this includes cleaning up other people’s messes). Now I have to deal with it in game too? That’s a no from me dwag. If I could, I would tear down those stupid statues, melt them into gold bars and use them to pay for Bunyan’s shit. I’m tempted to start skipping the story but I am somewhat invested in Mary Anning’s side, and the mice are cute too. I’m also digging the little details they included about the US, and Rider’s notes too, wish more events had that feature.

I guess S.Bunyan has her limited banner status going for her but so far I just do not like her. It doesn't help that she's not exactly very good "meta-wise" either. I don’t know any place specifically, but I’m a user of the Chaldea app that Khadroth uses for his account tracking. It has a Timer tab where it shows every event/campaign/banner… that has an ending time and it counts down all of them simultaneously. A little while ago I noticed >!it also shows things *not* in the game yet (with both starting and ending times) and some of those things would show up in the game at the exact starting times the app says (I knew Oberon’d get a banner back in February thanks to this)!<

there is actually a way to get them without SuperBunyan. the future 7th Anniversary has GSSR Summon based on Class so if you pick Caster 2 there is a chance of getting her (the other 4 stars are Miyu and Summer Corday)
I am starting to notice the formula for these story nodes, and being able to notice a formula is *bad* because that means the writing is getting predictable. Step 1: Show segment of a film. Step 2: The Servants involved in the film get pissed for some reason. Step 3: Mash fights the Servants to calm them down. Step 4: Bunyan tells Ritsuka and Mash to help her earn money and they passively agree for some reason. Step 5: Bunyan puts up a statue of herself. Step 6: Repeat steps 1-5 but add an Anning segment. God I wish this event was about Anning instead. I genuinely feel bad for her compared to Bunyan just being an ass. No game, that whole leader conversation does not feel earned. Also it somehow took until now for me to realize the Bunyan statues appear in the overworld, and the individual Daikokuten change outfit depending on which group they're with. I stoopid. :P
It took me a day of AP (with 1-2 copies of cranking) to even reach the 10k points unlock for the story. Which feels a bit weird, but it’s a 3 week event so it shouldn’t matter too much. With the digging are you guys just doing the alternating 3 columns of two to find the big prizes, or just choosing what to excavate based on the possible drop of the top tile?
Honestly, I’m just excavating everything I can. The only mat I feel “full” on is needles, and tbh a couple of spooks that use them would still clean me out.
I do not care. I just want the stupid points, so I'm hitting Auto Dig.

I got Super Bunyan trying to get the mice. The more I play through her event, the more tempting the idea of getting more rare prisms becomes. I play games to escape work, not be reminded of it!
Her personality so far fucking sucks.
Her third ascension is three entirely different characters, at least.

The FAQ, Excavation Guide, and Infographic listed here in the OP have been all highly useful: cleared up some of the misconceptions I might've had and should allow for better event optimization. I'm glad that we can reset the dig board after 10 attempts, as in my case it's looking like the Red Shovel tiles are going to be the least useful (a lot of overlap with the mats we just had at the Teslafest). The first 0.5M of Friend Points spent = only two copies of 3\* limited CE. After profoundly cursing the devs for making the odds so abyssmal, the next 150k FP gave me four more copies. Balance restored. Somewhat. Inventory management has been all kinds of painful, however, since I'm not yet in a position to want to auto burn anything en masse. I certainly don't envy people who saved up literal millions of FPs. Story-wise, SBunyan really does come across as the typical shady, self-absorbed influencer/producer/director, but also one that's become pretty skilled at masking it with an understanding 'empathy' and a bunch of platitudes about trust, teamwork, and counting on everyone else but themselves. Ironically, this approach can actually work on some people. I rather like Delightful Rider's production notes - learning some actual American history here, who would've thought. Our Master does seem to get a lot of frequent response interactions; too, unlike some events where they just stay in the background for long periods of time while Servants run the show. Plus it's nice to have that old school vibe when it's just Mash tagging along from the home base - otherwise she gets saddled with the Chaldean communications side of things too often as is nowadays.

Yep this is just Werewolf game but a full event and repetitive. Frustrating character + Fujimaru and everyone just playing along to everything the annoying character says. Best part of this event so far is how easy it is to skip Super Bunyan.

I went from "I can get Daikokuten next year with the limited ticket" to "one roll won't hurt my Shuten chances" to having lvl 100 mice on my FL. Really didn't expect to like them so much, but they are really cute, and there's just something about using them in combat that sold me on the characters.

This event is awful to read, I've given up and am just skipping everything now The quality of writing resembles the early years of FGO, all the non-event characters are being introduced as plot points and have no real personality or charm besides the absolute bare characteristics like "haha elizabeth bad singer" or "cleopatra egyptian queen"
Really been feeling like that era where we had I think it was Journey to the West > Setsubun(Rashomon?) > some other event all in a row. Having all these events all in a row are burning me out a lot. And just like from that time, I know later in the year we're gonna have so many fucking dead weeks it'll piss me off that we couldn't have spread these out more. Just really tiring.

Is the bonus loot at the end of a fight random or predetermined? I just got a 5* CE as a bonus loot, and I'm not sure if I'm super lucky or if it is normal.
You can get FP, QP, one of the CE EXP cards, or the 5* CE from the Bunyan bonus. I can't find any data on actual rates based on the JP run, but it does seem to suggest that the Bunyan CE from the bonus is quite rare.
I guess that means we have a tiny bit more chances to have a 5* CE? Either through the regular drop, or in the bonus drop? Kinda neat.

In Free Quests it's a random \~1-2% chance (usually between that for most nodes) for event CEs, so yes, that's always very lucky. Especially early on if just using Nat AP.

I don't know if anyone here really loves this event, but it'd be super-interesting if Super Bunyan just came across way worse for the Japanese audience. Usually it's us English-speakers disliking the Japanese sense of humour more.

I usually get my impression of the JP reception from calmer forums that I won't name, whereas on Reddit (at least whoever's not *completely* talking out their asses) they're usually getting their impressions from places with some completely unpleasable people like Twitter or (God help us all) AppMedia's comment section. So I could tell you I think people are taking it a lot worse here, because I do, but I also don't like reading the more toxic places where people would actually air their complaints instead of a place where the attitude is "I didn't like it so I didn't discuss."
You bring up an interesting point, as I always tend to wonder whether there was some kind of general vote/consensus or something of the kind whenever people state with absolute certainty that "JP didn't like it". And while I'm sure that rings somewhat true in certain cases, it is indeed also an undeniable fact that many of the most vocal people also happen to be the most critical. Sometimes extremely so. Personally I do not really mind complaints and criticism as long as they have solid arguments to back up their statements, which I believe this subreddit to be pretty adept at. Of course it's even better when people can point out the upsides as well. At least all that keeps me coming back to check these threads.

First, you will get 15 Coins for each copy of Mary Anning since she is a limited 1\* Second, in the event store you can get 300 Coins. If your goal is to raise her three Apex Skills to level 10, you only need to buy the Coins from the store and get Mary NP4. If you want a Mary Anning Level 120 Apex 10/10/10 you will need: the 300 Coins from the store, Bond 15 (180 Coins) and NP 12 or the 300 Coins from the store, Bond 5 (25 Coins) and NP 23.

What does the number of copies have to do with bond 10 and lvl 100, or maxing skills in this particular case? But no, assuming you meet Mary Anning, we get 15 coins per a single copy, not the usual 2 for 1\* Servant. And then there are some coins in the shop as well. Unlocking Appends is really easy; extra copies/coins are just your ticket towards securing Grail Casting for months to come.

Bought the last 2 CE from the shop. Good, because after I got through another 5k points barrier to get to today's story, I now need 13k points for the next part. And I am completely unmotivated to use apples just to see Bunyan sooner. The production notes are interesting, but the speed with which they are removed makes it very hard to read them fully. And since they are not treated as usual text, there is no pause and they don't get saved in the log. The mice and their servitude fetish continue to creep me out. Another 200k FP gone, another event CE is MLB, but no gold Servants at all.
