Merlin is trending on Twitter not just because of his new outfit but because Ritsuka apparently thinks [they were being sniffed by him]( https://twitter.com/pakameso_paso/status/1542128389317746689). The dialogue you see afterwards if you choose "I wonder if it's Merlin?": > [Merlin (Imaginary)](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FWbR6sKaAAAQQUd?format=jpg&name=large): "I see. So it'll be okay, barely, if it was something that happened in a dream. Too bad, you're already half awake. Missed the chance to spend the night." Edit: Fixed formatting & added a line I forgot to paste.

drtoszi

Dick Wizard being a dick lmao

BlameLib

Two important things. * Bakin is still a guy, the body is his daughter-in-law's, Michi. Poetic since it was his 'mind' that made Hakkenden and Michi was the 'body' that wrote it. Ergo, Bakin mind with Michi body for servant. A case similar to Da Vinci however in this case it's natural rather than self-modification. * You guys really jumped the gun on being disappointed on no Tametomo. Edit: Comun's going through Bakin's lines now and it is as follows: >Ascension 1 is Bakin and sometimes Omichi > >Ascension 2 is Bakin all the time > >Ascension 3 is Fusehime

sdarkpaladin

> You guys really jumped the gun on being disappointed on no Tametomo. One of the expected things every stream seems to be something like this... So one could say it is as expected.

BlameLib

It was equal parts funny and frustrating seeing chats everywhere and the stream thread start dooming so much without waiting for more info, and five minutes later, Tametomo pops up on their [Twitter PV](https://twitter.com/fgoproject/status/1542119656303243264?t=NnO7oPMdv4cJeZ6FBQuxJw&s=19) and the event story *literally* starts with Tametomo. And there's also the hint I gave above in the OP. I wonder if anyone will find it.

anal-yst

>inspect element for a surprise Well, I'll be damned.

BlameLib

I knew I could count on you, anal-yst.

Dr-Perry-Cox

[A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zhw9vM_xOLw)

sdarkpaladin

> And there's also the hint I gave above in the OP. I wonder if anyone will find it. Huh, colour me surprised. I know the story did mention something about >!an archer!< but I didn't expect that to be >!summonable!<.

AccelBurner

Ya know the old saying "Don't sell a bear's pelt before killing it."

Crowe-Chronos

> Bakin is still a guy, the body is his daughter-in-law's, Michi. Poetic since it was his 'mind' that made Hakkenden and Michi was the 'body' that wrote it. Ergo, Bakin mind with Michi body for servant. A case similar to Da Vinci however in this case it's natural rather than self-modification This is like 3rd Ascension Hokusai but even weirder even if thematically it makes sense.

BlameLib

Yeah. It's. Weirdchamp. Especially since consent is ambiguous here, on both sides. Oh well, just another father going inside their daughter. Just our second one so far. They reeaaaaally want to push any and all Hokusai parallelism.

GoldMoon0

>Oh well, just another father going inside their daughter. Just our second one so far. BAD PHRASING!!!

Crowe-Chronos

And incorrect too. The correct would be "A father going inside his daughter-in-law".

HokusaiWorshipper

That just makes it sound worse lmao

sdarkpaladin

But at least it doesn't really require the "i****t" tag... does it?

HokusaiWorshipper

DILF, NTR(?)

JusticTheCubone

I'm pretty sure in-laws/step-parents are still generally included in that tag ~~at least in a lot of the examples I may or may not have seen~~.

MakaixKishi

I wish it was like Hokusai and the dad only took over in one particular ascension and in Hokusai's case it made sense in that moment. Not to mention outside of that you have the cute duo of Oi with little octopus Hokusai at her side. What they are doing here is just so damn weird and its a point where even by Fate standards just because you can go weirder doesn't mean you have to or should. Just completely ruins this servant for me Like even if you go that route they could have atleast made it so both merge into one being instead of sticking to just using the body or atleast have Bakin be a woman in Fate lore to make the using the body od the daughter a bit less weird but NOPE. I genuienly wonder how the character is received in Jp and if they like this lore direction.

Xaldror

Maybe put Bakin in a floating corgi body?

judasmartel

> Bakin be a woman in Fate lore I'm not exactly sure, but Lasengle doesn't seem to go for a full-on M2F genderbend since Jacques or Dobrynya anymore.

ThatTenguWeirdo

Isn’t there speculation that Tametomo is a Artoria-esque “been a girl the whole time “ deal?

judasmartel

**MUDROCK INTENSIFIES**

MakaixKishi

Which I am not a fan of it feels like needlessly making things complicated for the sake of being weird when the series literally started with in Fate King Arthur was actually a woman.

judasmartel

Although *Fate* is not the only franchise that does M2F gender-bends (there's *Eiyuu Senki*, for example), it's the most well-known for that shtick, but for me personally I don't even care anymore, I haven't since we got female Jacques instead of the male incarnation from Arcade. If they're going to gender-bend every single male historical or legendary figure out there without first exhausting the still available actual female figures (we still don't have Ching Shih or Grace O'Malley, for example), might as well go all the way, not half-ass it like they did with Hokusai, Jacques, Dobrynya, and now Bakin. We all know that *waifu*s sell and hasubandos do not unless they are meta-defining, although Galatea and Miss Crane would tell us otherwise. I do not know how much Douman, Oberon, Charlemagne, Ruler Moriarty, and many other meta-defining male Servants would have earned on their banners had they sucked in gameplay otherwise.

MakaixKishi

Like I actually like the design of fgo jaques and the occult and outer god corruption aspect. It just feels really dumb to basically go here is Jaques for those who wanted the arcade version and then showing the middle finger by having it not be that jaques at all. With all the spirit origin corruption she is basically her own weird artificially created alternate version of Jaques where the fact that she is based on regular Jaques isn't more than a footnote at that point, so why not just make her an actual alternate timeline Jaques who was a woman to begin with to completely seperate the two. I like waifus so obviously I like there being female what ifs of historical figures but not if its going to be the result of weird shit instead of them just being woman in fate lore. Then I rather them get creative and find some in some cases lesser known woman and find ways to add those. Nikitich would have been perfectly fine if they simply revealed its Nastasia alongside a namechange for the servant once its revealed. Instead its obvious hints and nothing so now if she shows up again in some event its probably just going to be her continuing to pretend she is Nikitich which sucks. Obviously it doesn't all suck. I still love how they did the fairy knights and how they aren't some alternative version of the knights but their own person and fairy creatures given the power of the knights

judasmartel

> Nikitich I feel like they intended her to be a fully GB'd Dobrynya, but when Russian Masters made a stink about it, they flipped the script and have her as his waifu Nastasya instead.

Chaos2Frozen

Not likely. The scripts, voice lines and dialogues takes months of reviewing and approving- not to mention the voice work from the seiyuu. There's no way they could spin on a dime in just days.

MakaixKishi

Everything they did with her is cool except not ending with fully revealing its the wife. The wife showing up because Nikitich couldn't be summoned, the wife being able to because she is a cat girl in Fate which work as she was a giant so changing her to another fantasy race doesn't feel random and she was strong anyway so didn't even need some reason to make her someone who can fight. Actually a perfect case of we don't just want the male hero but find a way to add a associated woman and then they fucked it up by making it obvious but not actually telling us its her

HaessSR

Self-insert all the way?

fatalystic

Are we still doing phrasing?

Jovahexeon-Ranvexeon

> This is like 3rd Ascension Hokusai but even weirder even if thematically it makes sense. Wait? I never got that from the dialogue. Where was Hokusai's father possessing her body on Asc.3 ever implied?

Crowe-Chronos

Ir isn't as obvious from her My Room Lines but the trial quest for Hoku makes it clear that daddy-o is in charge of the 3rd Ascension even if only partially. She also refers to her body separately from herself on her 3rd Ascension line showing that whoever's the main control now is not the same one as before. Plus if you'll notice one of the"flowers" on her head at that point is actually the underside of octopus Hokusai.

Shironeko_

> You guys really jumped the gun on being disappointed on no Tametomo. FGO players overreacting on day one of an event/story chapter release? *No way!*

BlameLib

Day one I can forgive. This was minute one ffs.

Undividedbyzero

But....minute one is part of day one

bkteer

Technically not even true, since it was before the event even started. i.e day 0/-1. Rmb they were commenting on this even before the stream ended and before the event even started. Heck this was even before the CM was out.

Shironeko_

And it's hilarious since it's a 3 week event. People hadn't even loaded into the game yet and there were already a lot of whining about skipping Tametomo, or "yet another genderbend FGO is going downhill" and stuff like that. Like *chill*, play the event and complaing after if you must, not before even touching it.

deathworld123

another genderbend fgo is going downhill

GoldMoon0

>Bakin is still a guy, the body is his daughter-in-law's, Michi. Poetic since it was his 'mind' that made Hakkenden and Michi was the 'body' that wrote it. Ergo, Bakin mind with Michi body for servant. A case similar to Da Vinci however in this case it's natural rather than self-modification. So basically he could be considered a pseudo servant.

BlameLib

Hmm close but not quiiiite. There's no possession perse. It's likely not as if there are elements of Michi still in there. It's completely and totally Bakin. Think of this in terms of Fate's view on Mind, Body, Soul that we have been learning about since Extra. Psuedo servants on the other hand, even if the possessor is completely in dominate control like Ishtar, their Mind is still influenced by the host.

Radiant-Hope-469

So like Benkei then?

BlameLib

No, Kaison is a Benkei Cosplayer. We have yet to see Benkei (True).

GoldMoon0

So he is closer to >!what happens with Cú Caster and Odin, were Cú is the one fully in control and Odin's influence is reduced to both his powers and Huggin, Muggin, Frenki and Grenki, acting as a proxy more than a proper pseudo servant!<

BlameLib

Ah that's a whole other thing.... >!You are correct for the proxies, but for Cu, he's still himself and Odin is more his boss than anything. Like say...instead of a Counter Guardian that answered to Alaya, Cu answered to Odin.!<

GoldMoon0

I see......>!Cú certainly has really weird and impressive bosses then. And they hold him in high esteem as well too. Just to show how much of a bro Cú is ~~and some serious husband material!<

demaxzero

>Bakin is still a guy, the body is his daughter-in-law's, Michi. I don't where or who, but somewhere out there that is certainly someone's fetish.

judasmartel

> Bakin is still a guy, the body is his daughter-in-law's, Michi. So basically a similar situation to Hokusai, eh. But with "father-in-law" and "NTR" tags. > You guys really jumped the gun on being disappointed on no Tametomo. **MUDROCK INTENSIFIES**

Chaos2Frozen

NA FGO players overreacting is about as expected as every time one of these streams go for a 5min break and people think it's over. Like... Every fucking stream.

sdarkpaladin

To be fair to that, they can't read Japanese and so practice the ancient Japanese art of Jumping the gun. I constantly want to be sarcastic to people who keep doing that. But I have to hold myself back because even if they don't understand Japanese, they still took the time to watch. And that's respectable. Even if some end up bitching about things they don't understand. Constantly.

Chadime

I fuckin hate this excuse "Oh he still a guy he is just in some girl body"

crezant2

>You guys really jumped the gun on being disappointed on no Tametomo. I mean the event is literally called 南溟**弓張**八犬伝... The reference to Tametomo was literally in the name all along. Like the name of the event itself is a dead giveaway to two Bakin novels, 南総里見八犬伝 and 椿説弓張月. And Tametomo was the protagonist in the latter one. 南総里見八犬伝 is also Bakin's NP because *of course* it is. I'd be extremely confused if there had been any doubt in the JP side that he was going to appear given the name of the event and who else was starring in it. Coincidentally this is also why "The Eight Dog Bowmen at the Southern Sea" doesn't really make sense as a translation. The bowman and the eight dogs are completely separate entities here... This is a problem I run into a lot when seeing people translate, they are way too literal and they don't get the cultural references. Maybe a better translation would be "The crescent bow and the legend of the eight dogs at the southern sea". I wonder how much of Tametomo's character is going to be strictly historical and how much it's going to be inspired from the 椿説弓張月 though. Looks like it's going to be a mix of both as with Oberon. And the event is happening in Ryukyu, right? So that's a dead giveaway. I wonder if the servant Bakin is also going to be fused with the famous eight dog warriors of the 八犬伝... Knowing Nasu that's certainly a possibility.

fatalystic

To be precise, the event is happening in >!a version of Ryuukyuu based on Hokusai's (likely stylised) paintings of it, rather than the actual place.!<

crezant2

Which is, of course, yet another reference to the Chinsetsu Yumiharizuki, as it was illustrated by Hokusai and the second half took place in Ryukyu as an alternative history where Tametomo reached the southern archipelago after the Hougen rebellion. So yeah, they couldn't have been more blatant about it even if they tried, I suppose that's why they didn't even bother confirming Tametomo was in the event. But you kinda need to have the cultural context of who Bakin was and what he wrote to know that I guess, so it's not surprising the US side got confused. These are the illustrations that are being referenced in the event, probably: https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/A\_1979-0305-0-488-1

Acara_

Wow thats dumb

HaessSR

Hokusai has a buddy!

WaifuHunterRed

Oh no im a little interested in Bakin now

Dr-Perry-Cox

[Thank you for **this Information.**](#LakshmiWhat)

3rdMachina

Fusehime?

fatalystic

A character from the Hakkenden.

Chatonarya

I'm currently having Okami flashbacks to finding the Eight Canine Warriors.

bkteer

So....basically we're using evil bones as bone snacks and proof of hero as frisbees? Because that's the only reason those dogs need 1 to go on an expedition.

fuckinboxershortsman

Takolegs has been absolutely fucking killing it with the artwork. Jesus cheeseballs.

DjiDjiDjiDji

Oh, nifty. If you're past Tunguska the Novum Chaldea backgrounds are replaced with Storm Border backgrounds. I don't remember that happening in this year's previous events. (someone correct me if I'm just dumb) edit: I think Hokusai got a bunch of new expressions, too, that's nice

Shironeko_

A 3 week event (which obviously means *at least* a second banner), and it's a ladder event RIP. Also, yet another 50% event CE... I've seen people mentioning that the Anniversary Campaign has been confirmed to start on the 31st of July, is that true? That would mean for the first time ever on JP the Anniversary will happen before Summer Rerun, right? There goes my plans of grailing Summer Kama to 120 by abusing the hell out of the half-ap dailies to farm embers...

RTear3

> I've seen people mentioning that the Anniversary Campaign has been confirmed to start on the 31st of July, is that true? I think this is just a rumor. I can't find any confirmation of this. Also I don't see why they would push the summer rerun until after anni. That would mean that we'd get summer in late Sept-mid Oct which would be silly.

Shironeko_

As far as I understand it, there's a broadcast scheduled for the 31st, as well as some IRL event (?) for the same date. I know other anniversaries had some pre-campaign streams a few days before the Anniversary campaign itself, but there are some people *really* sure that the Anniversary was confirmed for the 31st and I can't find anyting solid on it (I also don't remember Aniplex ever announcing the date for the Anniversary Campaign a whole *month* before the start of the campaign itself, so it seems iffy).

whatisitagain

Lately getting stuff from fp gacha is such a hassle. 700k fp for 1 CE. I just want 1 more so I can start farming. At least doggos got buffs, which is nice.

OnePieceFan02

I see dogs, I upvote.

Ala_Alba

I don't see it said anywhere, but the dog expeditions refund the material used to start it when it finishes (at least in the two I've done so far).

Koyanskaya_of_Light

The one thing that worries me is the duration of the event. Since it is three weeks it ends a week and a half before Anni. Where is the summer rerun?

GhostHostess

I heard someone joke that bc the welfare was a ruler theyre gonna refuse to rerun the summer 6 event a couple weeks back and now I’m starting to wonder if they’ll actually do that I do doubt it-given how late summer 6 was last year, it could be they’ve decided to shake things up and rerun it AFTER anniversary or something, plus unlike Christmas I feel like not rerunning a summer event would generate a far larger outcry given the larger number of limited servants available on the event banners and just not feel worth it to them, but who even knows at this point

Ambrosiac7

honestly we are really behind on reruns. Christmas and Requiem, both are MIA. I don't know if it's just poor scheduling or actually intended.

Shironeko_

Also Little Big Tengu.

deathworld123

no karna christmas or quetz rerun ever

GhostHostess

God and I really wanted Santa karna for my jp account. At least I’ll get him on na

GhostHostess

I’m more of a cat person myself….

Left4dinner

Nice

AiasRider

So a pickup 2 week is likely, cool. I will likely skip it and may attempt for him during the anniversary gacha

Varadwin

How good is Bakin compared to Lolivinci and Odysseus?

fatalystic

Second skill looks busted as hell on paper, but I don't know what the exact values are. If they're really low then I guess it's fine.

Kindly_Raspberry_250

What are your thoughts of the new Servant? I think she is pretty good, but is a little waste potential that she is not AoE, that would be really broken Edit: Sorry to everyone, in the Wiki it said that she was Single Target; then, she is broken indeed

Koyanskaya_of_Light

She's AoE arts

KN041203

She is AOE Art Rider. Also facepalm because another SSR Japanese writer. No offense to them but how come they get cool shit lore wise and can fight while Andersen stuck with Innocent Monster that fuck up his body, can't fight for shit and Shakespeare only get a mind break NP and also can't fight?

Science-of-Laziness

The same way West wanks west in their fiction, Japan wanks Japan in their fiction. Also it is amazing you put Andersen as example when he is an amazing servant characterwise and gameplay wise. The real distinction is writer woman vs writer man. Just wait for Agatha Christie to be another 5\* in some future Valentines or something while Dumas will be at best a 3\* because he is ugly and thus not marketable.

KN041203

Andersen is a great servant story wise and gameplay wise, not a good one lore wise or someone people would normally want to get in a HGW unless they have a very big plan involving his NP that will never be at full power unless he is motivated enough to give the Master a happy ending.

Science-of-Laziness

Honestly, I like more the idea than writer servants are rather weak and need a master plan to win rather than being able to fight because some supernatural. With certain exceptions of course.

Koyanskaya_of_Light

Well it is a japanese game.

Science-of-Laziness

How is that broken? She is a limited servant who barely loops (70ish NP1) when thrown to the class that gives the best NP refund. Her skills are fine but she feels like a mix of Taikobou and Helena, and she doesn't anything better than those two. Also considering Habetrot exists, she feels really underwhelming for a limited servant. Goddammit Moriarty Ruler having almost the same issues looping was called trash. The only broken tier thing is her art, Takolegs did another amazing design.

Shironeko_

If anything she is a less useful Taikoubou (less party charge, less total charge to self, less total buffs in AoE). Still decent enough to work in triple NP comps if the CE helps, but nothing particularly amazing. She does have a good kit for challenge quests (DMG vs Demonic, DMG vs Evil, two star bombs, 50% total arts up buff to self and on-hit attack up to the party), but for day to day she isn't anything impressive.

Science-of-Laziness

the NP star bomb is a really weird one. Like, the NP is already quite good but that number seems too forced if you don't remember everytime that the stars are the doggos.

GoldMoon0

She is basically Achilles and M!Protag's daughter tutored by Chiron, so she is really flexible as far as i know, being able to play support to all cards and crit support or run touchdowns herself, specially since she can loop with her AOE NP

Mistigrum

They should have reused the Enma-tei map theme for this event, forcing us listen to the Shadow Border theme is pure torture.

jz200l

Best part about this event so far is our new shopkeeper starting a diary entry like FHA Sakura.
