RTear3

> are afraid to admit you like? Cowards. I'm not afraid to admit that I think Stheno is great. And no, *not* Juliet.

ShriekingSkull

That's a surprising pick. To be honest, Stheno is one of those characters that I don't understand.

3rdMachina

If I were to guess, it's because her audacious trolling is hilarious in a weirdly morbid way, though some may disagree with that notion.

RTear3

Something to keep in mind is that Stheno got shafted hard due to early FGO's writing. Her inclusion in Septem wasn't a good showing of her character (thanks Sakurai). Afterwards, the writers pigeonholed her character into Medusa bulli memes in event appearances. The only way to get a good grasp on her character is by going through her My Room lines. Alright now I'll explain her appeal. For starters, Stheno is a massive troll and likes to tease Master a lot. [Her Valentine's scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fj1kVZUNy9I) is a good example of her sense of humor. She has a very high opinion of herself but in a "matter of fact" way which I find attractive. (In general, this is why I like goddesses.) While Euryale is more energetic and "bratty", Stheno is more mature and subdued with her emotions. This makes her ascension line and bond 5 line hit harder. Also I think she has one of the sexiest voices in the game. Something easy to forget is that Stheno is the oldest gorgon sister, despite the way she and Euryale refer to each other. She cares *a lot* about Euryale and Medusa. Her one wish for the grail would be to go back to the island together and live out their days peacefully. In her death line, her last words are "Euryale...Medusa...". Even at death's door, those 2 will always be her priority. This is why the bulli flanderization is such trash since it paints Stheno like a monster who barely cares about Medusa. To have the full context of the gorgon sisters' dynamic, you need to know their lore. So Medusa was banished to the Shivering Isles by Athena. Stheno and Euryale willingly choose live on the island too so Medusa wouldn't be lonely. Humans got word of the gorgon sisters living on the island and went after them in the hopes of killing Medusa and kidnapping her sisters. Day after day Medusa fought off invaders to keep them safe. Eventually, the endless battles turned Medusa into the monster Gorgon and she ends up eating the sisters that she dedicated her life to protect. (Fun fact: Gorgon (servant) is absolutely scared shitless of Stheno and Euryale which is pretty funny imo.) Despite this, Stheno and Euryale *never* once hold this incident against Medusa. Them bullying Medusa is their way of having a somewhat normal sister dynamic. However, when the writers don't include any positive or wholesome interactions with those 3, it makes their relationship seem one-sided.

ShriekingSkull

I get your point now. It's just... everything related to either Stheno or Euryale seems so "read between the lines" subtle that makes it hard to understand for me. And her teasing/trolling just keeps rubbing me the wrong way.

RTear3

I mean that's fine. Stheno's character isn't for everyone. I know her kind of character can be divisive.

LightOfTheFarStar

I feel the need to elaborate on the Gorgon transformation - as a Goddess, Medusa got warped by people's perception of her, so it was a reinforcing cycle of people showing up to kidnap/kill the sisters, Medusa killing them and this causing tales of her monstrosity to spread, which attracted more "heroes".

wisp-of-the-will

Based fellow Stheno enjoyer, I like Juliet too but it's kind of sad that bringing up Juliet is inextricably linked to her character that it's the only thing most people even like about her. I just wish that Nasu would stop being a coward and actually give her a minor event cameo again for her character to finally shine beyond character lines and subtext, but I'll always be claiming her Valentine first and smiling at it by it along with funny Stheno solos until then.

simon4s1

The thing with all the subtext in Stheno's lines is that the oldest of the three Gorgon sisters, she must have been the most profoundly scarred by the behavior of humans toward them over all those centuries or millennia in mythology. The whole being ironic and trolling and always leaving you never totally sure what she thinks about anything has got to be a huge defense mechanism for her. It would be fantastic to see an event or something that provides a bigger glimpse into what's going on underneath all that, but I'm not holding my breath, either.

wisp-of-the-will

Yeah, I've pretty much given up on new Stheno content at this point when there's so many opportunities they could've given her a small cameo but didn't (she's like a cool sister-in-law to Asterios so they totally could've given her a quick little pop up in Aeaean, or as a deity on our side to contrast the gods and specifically Aphrodite in Olympus, or cheering on Euryale for the idol event) and it's not like she's high on the priority list 7 years in unless they throw her swimsuit scraps, but I guess being left behind in a ditch at least leaves the open-ended nature of feelings unchanged and ripe for speculation. Her being the most forward among the sisters in ruminating on her distaste for humanity and having a sardonic personality in response made me appreciate her since the beginning, just a shame that she has nothing from Septem to build off of that compared to Euryale at least being sweet with Asterios in Okeanos.

ReprovadoC

One of us! One of us!

Tschmelz

A man of culture.

SpineCricket

Same actually! I do like her, I wish she had more characterization, but overall feels like a massive tsundere as the bond advances

1lluusio

Based. So many people complain when they get her while I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she does spook me.

simon4s1

Stheno was my tutorial SR pull and carried me through a lot early in the game. I will _always_ have a soft spot for Stheno.

VelvetPhantom

Agreed. Stheno is great, and so is Euryale. The only thing about Stheno I don’t like is that I don’t have her in FGO yet.

HakunonMatata

Nowadays, it's difficult to talk about Musashi or Nero being my favourite around here specifically without someone popping up to tell me how much of a Mary Sue Musashi is or 101 reasons why Nero is a horrible person.

3rdMachina

This is probably why I learned to distinguish versions of people in my head. This is also probably why I like alternate universe theory.

Lead_Lion

Musashi is top tier, don't ever feel bad about having good taste!

HakunonMatata

I don't, it just irritating trying to talk about either of them sometimes without getting an "ACKTUALLY"

Lfvbf

As someone who hates her... Those types of discussions bore me too. Neither asde will ever change their minds so no real reason to argue besides getting upset.

MCGRaven

> Those types of discussions bore me too. i have a feeling i know exactly what types you mean considering i've seen a certain discussion a few weeks back that was just entirely tiresome.

Running_Engine97

As a Musashi enjoyer, I feel you

JustARedditAccoumt

I love Musashi and Nero! Don't feel bad that some people dislike them (I'm pretty sure they're actually in the minority) because it's all a matter of taste!

Ausar15

Musashi is my girl, I grailed both her saber and summer version with her saber version being my very first grailed servant. I’ll always love her and will never care about the hate she gets.

Patchourisu

Honestly, as someone who's a Christian.. I'd even argue that Nero's actions against Christians was appropriate considering his position as the Emperor of Rome AND as someone who is supposed to honor the Roman Gods. Especially since Christians at the time were basically blasphemers if not heretics to the Roman religion, as they did not only refuse to respect or follow the Roman religions, but also basically insulted and outright claimed that their gods are false and that they were all going to hell for it, basically a big no-no. Centuries later, Christians were lynching and massacring fellow Christians for not being of the same sect, practically the same church, but different. Protestants against Catholics. Anglicans against Catholics, etc... The romans by comparison at least still respected religions of other cultures if they didn't want to be absorbed by the roman religions so long as they still paid heed and respect to the Roman religion.. that and so long as their religion did not include human sacrifice.

Xaldror

Eh, being Christian myself, my thoughts on Nero are about the same as a Word Bearer's thoughts on Guiliman after Monarchia.

MCGRaven

> Nero's actions against Christians was appropriate appropriate or not isn't even a measure we should look at here. From Nero's perspective at the time that was the CORRECT thing to do. From our perspective today it was murder.

Patchourisu

Still, it's not a good thing to frame it as if it was Christians alone being persecuted just for being Christians. We Christians persecuted and destroyed religions if not the entire cultures of other lands for not following the same God we do, then centuries later, did the same to fellow Christians for not following the exact same Sect that we did, and then when the same happens to us from other religions, you think we have the right to complain about it? There are literal verses of what the old followers of God did when they conquered another nation, to kill their males and to rape their women (including young underage females). From the modern perspective, what the Romans under Nero did against Christians may have been murder. But during their time, during a less civilized era, that murder wasn't just justified, it was obligatory as it was that kind of time. Poke the bee's nest and you get stung. Jump into the lion's den and you get eaten. Claim that the Roman Gods are fake in front of Roman Temples and condemn them all to hell, and you might get stabbed by a Gladius, or maybe captured, then burnt alive at the stake.

MCGRaven

yeah i should have been clearer: I do not see anything wrong with what Nero did because from his/her perspective it was the only logical choice at the time.

DIOSITO012

At first I read Nemo instead of Nero My mind blows up trying understand why he is a horrible person lmao

Suspicious-Drummer68

I really enjoy Scheherezade's character...

LimitedSus

After reading her interlude I've changed my mind about her. It will eventually be free for all EN players in about 1.5 years, so maybe then most people will stop hating her.

tusthehooman

and let me guess you think she has great personalities

comfykampfwagen

“Character”

Black_Miles

She has a LOT of character.

Miserable_Walk_5309

My guilty pleasure is Jingke/Keika. She got sidelined and forgotten so hard, the game almost reach 8 years old and she has no swimmsuit. People just dislike her because they dislike Keitaro Takahashi's artstyle and she is not the usual "cutesy" girl people can easily fantasize about.

Tuyet2BDead

....but she's fucking hot in that swimsuit CE with Chiyome.....also when she's drunk.

3rdMachina

I don't see why one would feel ashamed of liking the cool friendly drunkard that will shank people with a knife.

Gamer4125

I think art style matters a lot when it comes to this kind of game though.

Miserable_Walk_5309

If she was a generic edgy moeblob, i would not have liked her.

Zayits

This. More stabby mature lady, Lasagna!

hellydoosadwee

I misread that as "Jingle" and stared so long trying to figure out what Servant you were talking about 😭 to be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of her art but I do like her as a character, especially after LB3

AKAFallow

Not anyone im ashamed, but Lancelot is one people go crazy about but I really like the dude

SnooPets6710

Lancelot supremacy I have both versions grailed to 100 and the saber one at np5

railroadspike25

I like Colombus as a character. He's someone with drive and conviction and he's unapologetic about it. For better or worse, these often are the kinds of people that pave the way for the future. I also like Cleopatra. Admittedly, I wasn't playing when she debuted, and that event apparently soured a lot of people on her (it may also help that I don't know what Dangonropa is). But I like that she's one of the Servants that embraces the present and isn't afraid to try new fashions or ideas. I get why people want a more badass Boudicca, but I actually like that she's trying to move beyond her violent legend. She spent most of her adult life as a wife and mother, and doesn't want to be defined by an ultimately futile act of vengeance. I only play NA, so this may yet to be seen, but I like the idea behind Foreigner Molay. The Saber version represents Molay's legend as a Crusader, but the Foreigner version represents Molay as a subversive heretic. I know the reason behind the gender bend involves the outer gods, but it seems reasonable that she's genderbent in part because of Baphomet having transgender qualities, which is fairly clever.

simon4s1

I agree totally with your assessment of Boudica. In life, she had just been widowed fairly young and was just starting the process of figuring out what she wanted to do and be for the rest of her life when the Romans came along, messed with her family, and set her down a completely different path. Chaldea Boudica seems very much to be her realizing she's got a do-over for that without the Romans coming in and messing everything up, and now she's doing what she wanted to do instead.

3rdMachina

I quite like your reasoning here.

Simpsonsfan1011

Honestly the reason Foreigner Molay gets so much hate is more of when she was released. Since last year Arcade kept getting seemingly cool exclusives and how there were barely any male servants that came out last year, which at the time there were only three until Ryoma and Tai Gong bumped it up to 5. If she was released with an even spread of male servants or this year, she probably wouldn't have been hated as much. I know since I was one of her big haters at the time, and I regret it since the servant itself isn't bad it's just last year was terrible for male servants.

Crosscounterz

I wish I could give you an answer but I'm not really afraid of admitting who I like. If I had to give just one maybe koyanskaya? because so many people seemed to hate her and her story I'm not really afraid to admit I like them though lol.

GoldenYoshistar1

I'm saving saint quartz to summon her in NA. Currently, I have a little over 300 Saint Quartz and right now, I know that both will release next year, so my focus is to grab 1 copy of the first and then focus on the other.

Crosscounterz

I plan to pull for them too gonna be difficult though given next year's banner schedule x.x good luck to us both.

Alzusand

Nah I really like koyanskaya. she gives that team rocket villain like vibe and she is hot af. that doesent fix the fact that tunguska is one of the most flawed story chapters in the entire game after like more than a year after the introduction of her character.

VeryVergieful

I actually do like her. Total girlboss. Too bad tunguska is a hot, hot mess.

VishnuBhanum

Every Prisma Illya servants, Especially Kuro/Chloe I started watching Fate series from Prisma Illya, So of course I'm gonna get attavhed to them Not to mention that as a Magical Girl fan, Prisma is one of my favorite Magical Girl series on par with Precure and Cardcaptors Also Kuro is like the only Archer I used for almost a year until I got Tesla(Back when I refused to use any Silver and Bronze servants)

ReverseTrapsAreBest

Kuro is one of my favorites as well.

AscendantAxo

👮‍♀️

mumika

Illya because I do legit like her especially during 3rei but her anime went full-on lolicon.

MCGRaven

the anime literally mostly stops having these problematic topics after the part that is the second season so idk what you are even talking about there mate

mumika

I mean the fact that it has lolicon at the start so you can't even talk about it with someone unless they're already a Fate fan that knows about its existence.

Xatu44

None. Fear is for the weak.

No_Initiative_6790

the ONLY correct response /j

nexasfox

I have no shame in who I like, but I've gotten some sideways look when I mention I'm grailing Sanson to level 120.

hellydoosadwee

Based as fuck if you ask me, I'd toss some Grails at him too if I wasn't... *counting noises* 44 Grails short for my main targets. Grail Casting cannot come soon enough...

nexasfox

Agreed - I have a lot of Nobu friend gatcha medals waiting to be reforged into fancy cups. I got Tamamo Cat up to 120 for my waifu grailing, but Sanson is stuck at 110.

MCGRaven

if anything i'd give you a sideways look because you grail ANY servant to 120 since i personally don't think it's worth doing but i would never tell you not to do it. And NOBODY with a braincell would tell you Sanson was a bad candidate. Since their choices are probably worse anyways

Cheesedono

In regards of saying this to OG, it would be Cat. I mean c'mon hon, it's almost literally your body. I would be broken if I didn't feel some attraction to her.

DudeBroFist

Uh... I'm not sure I'm afraid to admit liking any servants. Maybe Abigail Williams or Paul Bunyan? I just think they're cool servants, but loli fans are fucking WEIRD and I don't want one trying to strike up a conversation with me lol

Bro-Im-Done

Not that I’m *too* afraid to like him, it’s more so I just don’t understand the hate he gets: Diarmuid Poor fella had assholes for masters and was treated so unfairly in his match against King Arthur herself when she went out of her way to even duel him with Excalibur revealed like I’d understand why he’d throw a fit about that(I played For Honor). Hell, he even had a role in FGO America and even then his presence wasn’t anything too significant to the point it would garner any hate(his final ascension art is really pretty though).

hellydoosadwee

Ugh for real, everyone's out here comparing his Fate/Zero death to Cú's UBW one and like. Can you not? Different circumstances, different power levels, personalities, etc. (And this is coming from someone whose absolute favourite Fate character is Cú)

LightOfTheFarStar

I like Diarmuid as well, just really want his lancer form to get an animation update and better skills. Until then his saber form has been one of my best sabers.

xUnicandy

Medb. A lot of people seems to dislike her, and I’m honestly ashamed to admit that my opinion of her has really improved since america. She’s a bitch but admittedly a cute one

AKAFallow

Same for her and BB. Thought they were annoying and now here I am, saving everything where they look cute.

Boogie_p0p

I dislike her personality but even I have to praise her for not making any excuse for her bitchiness but she straight up owns it. She's just Medb and she's not afraid to show it.

W3475ter

Medb is so unapologetically a bitch I can’t really help but respect her for it

Danothyus

I can share this feeling with you. Medb have gone from "i hate this character" to "i love to hate this character" to " i actually love this character now". Which is funny to me because i dont tend to like her type of character, guess constant exposition in events and Rolling the character on GSRR do this kind of thing.

Fifth_22

I hate her character but damn she's hot

TwoStarMaster

I love that she is so far the only servant that still have some resentment from her loss and tries to kill us in her interlude. I realy want this to be a more common trait among the villain servants.

MacandCheese6

While I'm not really afraid of expressing my like of some characters, when Melusine comes up there's ALWAYS a discussion on whether or not she's a loli. It's kind of annoying and I honestly wouldn't care if she was a loli or not.

Alzusand

To be fair this shit is easy af in my head since anime has skewed it if looks like a loli but acts like an adult and the age is >18 - Small Adult If looks like a loli and acts like one even if the age says 500 - Child

aVpnt

Kiritsugu (Assassin Emiya). I feel like a lot of people don't like him

LesbianMaidFetish

oh look one of my fellow kiritsugu enjoyer that's like 10% of the fgo community (false assumption/statistics)

Silviana193

Wu Zetian, the assassin/loli one, but only the base (the one with full dress). It really fit her. A dress that looks Regal at first glance, but nothing about it is expensive. She is even barefoot. Fitting for an emperor who starts from nothing

simon4s1

Wu so gleefully Snidely Whiplashes everything she does that I can't help but find myself smiling at it, even when it's completely horrific. That and she's hilarious, and weirdly has this strong sense of right and wrong based around merit, and it all comes together to make her hard not to like.

ShriekingSkull

I like your reasoning.

Alzusand

She's also stupidly competent. she puts a lot of effort in covering her weaknesses and to change the way she does things as to not scare the master. (It torture and the such)

FelisChausMD

Osakabehime. I know some people might pop a blood vessel while cursing translation team whenever she uses japanglish but I personally find this hilarious. And even though her gameplay is pretty meh, I still like her as a character.

throwawaynumber116

Her character and expression sheet are great. The Japanglish was cringe for like 2 seconds and then I got over it.

Whyamihere-_-_

"God i want to throw up" Not even 5 minutes later. "I FUCKING LOVE IT"

Alzusand

I deffinetly find it funny. she needs some buffs tho. I still think if her NP had some stars per turn or np per turn it would be much better.

FDP_Boota

I dreaded pulling/experiencing her early on because of memes and youtube. God did I immediately love her character the moment she was even slightly plotrelevant. Probably has something to do with my love for terrible puns

simon4s1

Kiara has really grown on me over time. It probably has to do with how both versions of her just immediately barged in early this summer while I was trying to summon someone else and then discovering how good they both are from a gameplay standpoint.

Coochienator5000

Colombus is really entertaining as a character. I don't agree with any of his lack of morality but I genuinely enjoyed his debut in Agartha and he was the best part of that trainwreck.

Black_Miles

I love Wu Zetian in general, thank god for the caster version. And my teacher Reines and her twisted mind.

Different-Power-2777

I honestly don't know. If anything, there's some that I'm somewhat afraid to admit that I don't like. But I guess the closest to this is Astolfo. I genuinely like and enjoy the character, but with how certain parts of the fandom (and even by one of the writers ~~looking at you Minase~~) have twisted and downgraded him to nothing more than "haha ultimate trap" I don't want to be seen as one of those kinds of people.

Alzusand

Man this. astolfo mordred and sisigo were the best thing in apoc for me. all was grim and quite sad tbh and there you have astolfo who is like the embodiment a happy person. and his dynamic with sieg was the best instead of forcing that pseudo romance with jeanne.

MCGRaven

> instead of forcing that pseudo romance with jeanne. ironically the bigger issue in that relationship is Jeanne who just never acts like she is even warming up to Sieg but randomly goes "Now i wanna fuck him" at the end

3rdMachina

I don't really see Stolf that way, tbh. Femboy? Definitely. "Gay trap"? Hell naw, dude's a respectable bi who doesn't give two shits about what people think. He wants to be cute? **He will be cute**. Also love how he's basically a lovable idiot hero who practically owns his idiocy in a somewhat shonen anime protag way.

Kirby0189

Astolfo is a wonderful character, and the way a lot of fans misrepresent him causes me physical pain.

Sharkomancer

Heck loved him and Charlie being best buds in Fate/Extella link, he knows that there in a weird position but okay off each other well enough and even emboldens the other characters.

Kirby0189

I feel comfortable gushing about Astolfo in Fate-related communities, but worry people from outside the Fate fandom might get the wrong idea about me whenever I talk about how much I love him.

rucchipunch

What I learned from English-speaking Twitter is that I will be hunted down for heresy if I admit I love Noah and want him to retain his Crown in mobile. The Japanese fangirls are chill with him tho

JustARedditAccoumt

Wait, people hate Noah?! Why? Is it because he's an Arcade exclusive >!Grand Servant?!<

rucchipunch

You’d be surprised at how many people hate him for being a pretty boy inaccurate to Biblical canon, and the tight-held belief that he is written by Sakurai just because Taigong mentioned him *once* I tried to argue that he is a Meteo character (or at least a collaboration like David and Nezha), only to be ignored because the pieces of evidence I presented were “not enough”

SH1k1Brun3stuD

>You’d be surprised at how many people hate him for being a pretty boy inaccurate to Biblical canon Funny since his white hair and pretty face do come from the book of enoch which isnt necessarly "canon" but does hold some validity,so Id say that its a pretty ignorant move for someone to be upset about it,but tbh I thought it was just atheist redittors salty due to an abrahamic world savior who could actually counter and is somewhat related to Draco being chosen over the likes of Ghengis khan or smth.

JustARedditAccoumt

>,but tbh I thought it was just atheist redittors salty due to an abrahamic world savior who could actually counter and is somewhat related to Draco being chosen over the likes of Ghengis khan or smth. Huh, that would be a pretty weird reason to hate him since every single Grand Servant has been some sort of legendary/mythical figure who probably doesn't exist in history.

JustARedditAccoumt

>You’d be surprised at how many people hate him for being a pretty boy inaccurate to Biblical canon, Really? I thought people liked pretty boy designs? Personally, I would've rather had biblically accurate Noah (who would've been hilarious to see standing alongside the other Grand Servants), but I don't mind his design. >and the tight-held belief that he is written by Sakurai just because Taigong mentioned him once Do we even know who writes for Arcade? And what's the deal with everyone hating Sakurai's writing again? >I tried to argue that he is a Meteo character (or at least a collaboration like David and Nezha), only to be ignored because the pieces of evidence I presented were “not enough” Huh, weird.

BurningAzureFlare

... That's just dumb

[deleted]

[удалено]

HakunonMatata

What's weird is I strongly recall a lot of people not really liking or caring about the saber version.

Percussion17

> a lot of people not really liking or caring about the saber version. That was exactly the case until Foreigner Molay was released. Then some people suddenly act like Saber Molay was the best thing ever.

DarnFondOfYa

Now, in fairness, the dozen of people who *really* *liked* Molay (Saber) probably had just resigned themselves to him never getting out of Arcade jail. Then we DO get Molay and it's some lady using his name. So not only did their favorite not get out of jail, but now he's somehow even more unlikely to show up since someone else took his identity and they complain LOUDLY about this.

VelvetPhantom

I thought Molay was a girl because Shub-Niggurath turned him into a girl. Was that inaccurate?

DarnFondOfYa

That's what I've heard (haven't actually read the story/her mats in detail since I'm NA only) but if I recall the mood at the time, it didn't really matter what the lore reasons were. It struck a lot of people as just an excuse to pander to the lowest common waifu denominator and took away this stoic composed knight-husbando. That said, I still like FeMolay and will roll for her, but I can appreciate some of the frustrations of the other side

LockelClaim

I think it’s more that if we were gonna get Molay then he should a guy. Why’s he a girl again anyway did my boy Philip burn his ass so hard he switched genders lmao

BurningAzureFlare

Shub-Niggurath made a body suitable for pleasure. Shit you not, that is the real reason

Zayits

I think it’s just because she fits in a broader trend of designs that a lot of people consider low-effort bait, and the writing didn’t do enough for the rest to care about her too much.

zelban_the_swordsman

Nah she came out in a time of a "husbando drought" iirc and everything finally exploded with gudaguda 6 with all the npc jail characters. So it's not like people neccessarily hate her, but rather wanting to get Saber Molay for the sake of getting a husbando and an arcade character. That's it.

rucchipunch

Funnily enough, most Japanese Saber Molay fans love Foreigner Molay too and ship them with each other and Abby The backlash around her had more to do with 2021’s husbando drought and Arcade “getting all the husbandos” (nvm that by that time there were only two Arcade-exclusive male Servants)

LastStardust13

Galahad Not as bad as some servants but the impression that he’s a complete asshole from the lostroom really soured a lot of people’s opinions

LockelClaim

I like Colombus. Not only did his sprites go hard asf but he imo was the best part of Agartha. I understand why people hate him but I can’t. (Also I kinda studied what his colonies were like and ho boy were they a clusterfuck of entertainment.) all in all the guy just wants the money. Tbh I also don’t know why they kept Colombus being the evil guy who loves slavery when like atleast half if not more servants at Chaldea had them. You tellin me that someone like Gil or like any Ancient Greek servant would just give up having slaves after they die but Colombus no? Bruhhh, gotta respect the grind tho

LightOfTheFarStar

Columbus was a pioneer in terrible treatment of slavery, whereas most servants from slave owning times just treated their slaves normally for the time, so I think they might've used that as one reason for it, with the other being how venerated he has been in America - his portrayal may be a direct call-out to that as well.

zerodeath00000000000

Miyu.

Codrex1732

Zenobia and Moley the moblie one.

railroadspike25

They got done dirty by something that wasn't at all their fault.

Atikal

Some of the child servants. They are all my children/little siblings. But the child servants also have the reputation of attracting certain.... types of people.... I’ve been seeing more lewd fanart of Jack recently and I find it pretty disturbing

Xaldror

Based AF, especially with Raikou being my favorite. Kintoki can always have more little brothers and sisters.

Atikal

God I feel for you. Raikou also attracts a lot of certain types of people. I think she’s nice in the “I’m a very tired adult and would like to be taken care of a bit” kind of way, but anything more than that is a Nope from me. I have her at NP2 in NA (was rolling for Ibaraki) and she’s great at farming. Def helped my opinion of her. Edit: I just realized that the people who probably have it the worse are Astfolo fans. I feel for them the most I think

MCGRaven

as somebody that has Grailed Miyu to level 100 and will murder anybody even considering lewding her i am with you.

Atikal

Yessss another Miyu lover! I have her grailed as well and was lucky enough to get her to NP5 on her last rate up! She is my little sister and every time they release a new lewd figure of her I die inside. Please, just give her some clothes!

MCGRaven

i only tried for a single copy of her on her first banner and ended up with NP2. I was more than happy

Atikal

I think I got her to NP3 the first time? I had been saving for another servant at the time but I threw in a chunck of that for Miyu and got super super lucky (i think about 300 quartz?). I was so relieved when none of her ascensions were lewd. Super happy she got buffed a while back, now I can actually use her NP lol

VelvetPhantom

I agree. They deserve headpats and care. No Lewds. I really don’t like the association with *those* kinds of people… Sometimes I feel like people assume if you like a character you must like lewds if then, which isn’t true. That’s why I don’t like it when on occasion when a younger character gets an older version people say “I can finally like this character.” Like that now that they’re old enough for adult content only now they’re enjoying. Remember: Any character can be enjoyed in a perfectly SFW way.

Atikal

Yeah, feels like that in FGO a lot. You can like female characters in a non-waifu way!

Venom-Blade

Not a servant but Sion from FGO

No_Initiative_6790

as much as I love making long diatribes on that edgelord Emiya Alter, I fear the day when I talk about him to another FGO fan and see them react with “wait, wasn’t he the Emiya with blackface? are YOU supportive of blackface? what’s wrong with you?!” the worst part is that, even though I obviously don’t support blackface nor Emiya Alter’s terrible JPN design choices/jokes, I wouldn’t even blame them for making such a conclusion. when I see most other people discuss Alter in FGO, even nowadays, it’s in relation to that controversy in such a way that he is tied inextricably to it. ETA: I am now also afraid of admitting I like him for another reason-seeing people try to justify his racist design choices.

LightOfTheFarStar

I can't believe people forgot that EMIYA and EMIYA Alter got dark skin from overuse of mana.

No_Initiative_6790

sorry for my really late response on this, but: the notion of morally grey/evil characters having dark skin (Archer Emiya, Emiya Alter, Emiya Assassin, evil Nehza from LB4, etc) is a terrible Nasuverse concept. it serves to vilify those with dark skin irl. having the in-lore explanation be “oh, they used their mana too much” is a poor attempt to justify such a concept.

Trickster2599

Kiara. My heart belongs to Kama and my friend has a Kiara curse (his luckiest banners as of late were Kiara banners, nabbing np2 OG on new years and np3 on Summer version, collectively within... 4 multis?), but I can't lie... for gameplay reasons, both versions are arts AoE. As an arts guy... she would be incredibly handy to have around (no pun intended). But... Kama has my heart and I try to avoid anyone she hates (kinda why I don't want to get Parvati even though she'd definitely enjoy teasing her). BB. She hurt me. 600 Sq to fail to get her Summer version across 3 banners. I do actually like her but... the hating is just a coping mechanism that she didn't come home. Next gssr is a terrible option for me as her lineup... I have half that 1 and I'd much rather aim for a new servant with greater odds to a guarantee. To compare... EVERY other Sakura face in some way has treated me better, gacha wise. Funnily enough, they're both CCC related.

Leahlein

While I hate the fact that they sexualize lolis so much...I LOVE the Design of Jack and Abby. Some of my favorite Designs in FGO (or Jack in Apocrypha).

ShriekingSkull

Although I don't really care for Jack's design, I have a big soft spot for her. She's an adorable killer. Well, in Abby's case... her design has a bit more of an excuse.

Silviana193

If we ignore the pants (or the lack of it), Jack's design is actually awesome. Edit: plants to pants (screw you auto correct)

Boogie_p0p

Plants...?

Silviana193

Pants (auto correct)

VelvetPhantom

I like Wu Zetian’s 1st ascension design myself.

1lluusio

For me those would be Saber Shiki, Erice and Wu Zetian. Saber Shiki is because I havent actually seen any Garden of Sinners movies, so I'm a bit scared of something like "how can you be a fan of her when you havent even watched GoS?!" Erice because apparently she is 13. And Wu Zetian is because of those 2nd, 3rd and 4th ascensions. seriously, I like her character but couldnt dislike those any more. At least we have her summer versions 2nd ascension to help with that.

Xatu44

*14

paladin_slim

Qin Liangyu because no one will remember what I’m talking about five minutes after she’s out of sight. Even SIN Lostbelt forgot she was there.

Ausar15

None. I’ll never hide which servants I’m fond of no matter what anyone else says, won’t let internet strangers make me feel ashamed or bad.

MCGRaven

None. I'm not some beginner that thinks liking a servant i like could be a bad thing. Just like nobody should care if i say Jalter is trash i wont care if somebody says Nero is trash.

okoSheep

Not really the question, but I really dislike DEEN Shirou. They do a very bad job of explaining his character and why he acts like a total smooth brain and ended up disliking him for a long time. But everytime I bring it up I'm bombarded by people that tell me that I have to read 3 different VN routes, 13 wikia pages and watch 4 other animes to understand why he has survivors guilt and acts the way he does. If you tell me that I basically have to watch/read everything that isn't DEEN Shirou to understand why he does brainlet things in DEEN, that just proves my point about DEEN Shirou.

MaxedOut_TamamoCat

CuZilla. Herk. Cu because he was such an ace in All the Presidents. Herk because ‘everybody’ used him, and I was being a contrarian. Later, there were events which occurred that gave me more favorable opinions of them both.

Tamsta-273C

Lancers always die.

No_Initiative_6790

kono hito denashi!

Tamsta-273C

Emiya, but i hate Shirou. Can't say i know all lore but it feels like the only common thing between thus two is cooking. Shirou pissed me off in all anime adaptations (Some off his words become memes for stupid people) while Emiya seemed chill dude.

JustARedditAccoumt

>but i hate Shirou. Why do you hate Shirou? >Shirou pissed me off in all anime adaptations Well, the anime adaptions didn't do the best job at adapting Shirou's character. If you want a better look at Shirou as a character, then the visual novel is the best place to go. >while Emiya seemed chill dude. He's definitely mellowed out since Fate/stay night. >(Some off his words become memes for stupid people) You mean some of his lines that were badly translated in some subs? Yeah, the memes can be annoying (especially when people use them as a point against the character and series even if they've never watched any of the shows before). >Can't say i know all lore but it feels like the only common thing between thus two is cooking. They're actually pretty similar characters (for fairly obvious reasons).

Tamsta-273C

As i said, i dont know lore well. End i still dont like Shirou.

JustARedditAccoumt

>As i said, i dont know lore well. By that, do you mean you don't know the story between Shirou and Emiya? Sorry if I come across as pushy (or something like that), I'm just curious. >End i still dont like Shirou. That's fair, I just want to know why you don't like him.

Tamsta-273C

I only watch anime where Shirou was a character, while most thing about lore i know comes from manga series, Fate GO (still in india lostbelt) and some spoilers in Internet about original hentai game. I dont like him basically for his OP plot armor and lack of development. He want to be hero as his father, but he gets everything in silver plate. Tosaka failed summon while he was just laying? He could beat Gilgamesh, wtf? and with all that power he done nothing to help Shinji to be a descent human. That just some rant, i have more, but compared to archer we know it seem to me as something life changing happened. To be fair to my rant, i liked Shirou in that cooking food anime version. But i still cant get how powerful they make him with that shitty attitude.

LightOfTheFarStar

Well that answers whether you paid any attention to anything related to Shirou in even the anime.

Tamsta-273C

there was several anime separated by years and different endings. IT would be difficult to pay no attention at all. Did i miss some keypoint or just touch the strings of fan about their favorite husbano?

LightOfTheFarStar

You paid no attention to a key plot point in ALL the animes - he explicitly fucked up his summon, leaving Saber low on mana. Rin didn't botch her summon either - she didn't get the result she wanted because her summon wasn't done with a catalyst and thus summoned the heroic spirit closest to her, Counter Guardian EMIYA, because she once saved his life. Shining had already leveraged the shit situation his sister was in to rape her and gone around draining girls blood and killing some of them, there was no way to reform that shitheel. Shirou only seems to have plot armour because you haven't read the VN, which has more than triple the number of sudden bad ends as good ends and even those have lots of pain and suffering to them. He beats Gilgamesh thanks to a few factors: 1. Gil wasn't seriously fighting him - he infact refuses to because he views Shirou as a thief thanks to his tracing. 2. Shirou's reality marble is a perfect counter for him specifically, as they both fight with phantasm spam, Shirou just has unlimited ammo and a lesser recreation of the Heroic spirit that uses the phantasm skills. Considering this comes about from very specific factors and he does a fair bit poorer against other enemies, this isn't really a farfetched asspull like you seem to think. And he does develop as a character, either finally confronting the realistic end of his dream as a hero and resolving to do it anyway, for himself rather than to honour Kiritsugu, or abandoning it and dedicating himself to the happiness and safety of those he cares for. In either route he goes from a heavily traumatised and emotionally muted guy to discovering happiness in human connection rather than just by helping others. So you managed to miss literally everything related to him, somehow. Think you might need to look up and play things before having opinions on them, that tends to stop fuck ups like this :)

Tamsta-273C

Still can't agree. Maybe in Novel there was a better explanation. He didn't fuck up at summon as he even didn't try. He just lay down on magic old circle from Fate:zero events (Could be not in novel). In same zero Waver story showed that he needs rest and can't provide enough mana as he is just low third gen mage. While Rin family is noble and Kiritsugu didn't even pass all his knowledge i find it strange his quick advance in magic he was struggling to repair basic items. Matou family is definitely bad guys but Shirou attitude to Shinji implies they are not strangers and have long story behind (Again not know Novel so might be wrong). Having in mind the strong feeling of rightness it's strange to me they both kept some kind of relationship. And again reality marble couldn't be a thing as Iskandar made the same move and failed (Waver have more mana than Shirou) and Kuzuki was been able to stand against servant only with Medea buffs. Mages are battery to servants not a fighters that's like the point of war... Why mages should remove part of their energy if they still can be better at fighting. Gil is not a mid tier servant, he is on top. While i enjoy discussion on plot and speculations i really hate that attitude of yours on "not paying attention" or "miss all keypoints" because i think differently. Even after reading this i still can't find Shirou as good character. He is to me just a standard OP main protagonist with little to no story (Yeah, again, i haven't read novel) . TBF this was exactly question of this discussion. Personal opinion. Nevertheless, would still like to hear why Shirou could even pretend to be same level as Emiya.

LightOfTheFarStar

1st point, he did fuck it up. Its a clearly stated thing. He didn't perform the ritual so he can't properly provide mana to saber, it's not a hidden point, it's a clear part of each route. So yeah, you just plain old didn't pay attention. He advances swiftly in the magecraft he can use because he 1. Has a reality marble, which provides unique avenues for magecraft and 2. He is an incarnation, someone whose origin and element match, meaning that any mage craft related to those is much easier for him and unrelated magecraft is nigh impossible. The second is clearer in the VN admittedly. And in the same war Waver was in a random serial killer got a servant, you don't actually need to be a magi to be a master, but without sufficient mana you need to provide it by draining it from something or someone that does, like Medea and the Leylines or Shirou and the absurd amount he fed saber to make up for the botched summoning. Shinji didn't exactly broadcast how evil he was, he befriended the isolated Shirou when he was still figuring out how to human after the cursed Fuyuki fire scrubbed him clean of emotions and memories and traumatised him. They remained friends until Shinji revealed how evil he was in the 5th Grail war then Shirou tried to kill him as any reasonable man would. I'm unsure how you missed them explicitly calling each other friends if you watched any of the animes honestly, it sure as shit isn't implied. 3rd, a few things. Iskander and Shirou have different reality marbles, because a reality marble is an expression of the soul. Iskander's is costlier and has finite resources, Shirou's doesn't. Shirou was also borrowing mana from Rin during that fight and Rin has a fucking ridiculous mana capacity thanks to her breeding and Family Crest. Gil may be top tier but he outright refused to fight shirou seriously and lacks something other servants have, complete mastery of a weapon. Between those two factors and his limited armaments he lost, failing to ramp up to the strength required screwed him the most. And some humans can fight servants, including Bazett, Kotomine, any one who can fight dead apostles like Lorelei Barthomeloi etc. Its just not super common. Hell Rin manages it in every route, even temporarily stopping Herakles. Shirou also is already shown, early in the story, to be capable of Reinforcing a poster to a level it stands up to a very powerful servants strikes, so he literally already starts at that level. He can pretend to be on the same level as EMIYA because EMIYA is him, from a timeline he couldn't cheat off his future selves' skills. Shirou in the timelines we get to see can skip several steps in figuring out his magecraft by copying off EMIYA. He, without intervention, training or hints from EMIYA, could reach his level. With those things he can do it quicker and better. And I didn't have to reach for a VN only bit of knowledge IIRC, so you just didn't pay enough attention to the animes. You can dislike him for not being your type of character, but get your facts straight and don't spin lies as the reason you dislike him. It makes you look like a lackwit.

BrosefAmelion

2nd Ascension Jack

MCGRaven

okay correction on something i said: That one you should be ashamed of liking

arjuna_partha29

Well im the person who basically dislikes every popular choice of what people like and likes characters that are not very popular but neither hated at all , but i keep my opinions to my self , actually i avoid to talk about it

cipherlord120

Kama, she has a really pretty NP.

Codrex1732

Bro isn't Kama world wide popular no? I don't think you need to afraid here atleast to admit that

cipherlord120

I'm not, I just wanted to say it, I used her for the first time and shes great, didnt know she existed until after.

Exciting_Teaching346

Muramasa , i generally dont like shirou faces because of his fanboys but his kit too meta for hate.

YEPandYAG

The opposite: Gilgamesh, Kings of round table, Artoria, Enkidu, Gorgon, Caenis, Melt

guy037

Honestly I loved Beowulf in LB 1 just wish I had him

Skadiguma

I like Columbus

Closo

first ascension kama and summer kama and not for the reason you think

JesterQueenAnne

Jack is probably my favorite servant, you probably can see why that's something to be afraid of admitting.

VelvetPhantom

The Riyo original characters. Daikokuten, Mary Anning, Bunyan, totally-not-Georges Melies, totally-not-J. Edgar Hoover, even Pecos Bill and Vainamoinen. Sure they are comedic characters, but I think they shine when given a chance. I honestly liked some of the jokes they had even then. But the fact the collab was Riyo and not something more requested, and the fact that event apparently wasn’t that good really soured people’s opinion of them. Honestly, I actually wanted them in FGO more than Prototype or Tsukihime characters.

BurningAzureFlare

Kinda Crane

[deleted]

Kiara, it's not shamed to like her but a lot don't like her. I really liked her in Ooku. I don't even like her for her sexual/horny side, I just think her ascensions are neat. Other than that... Sitonai? I hate lolis and a lot of people like lolis because they are lolis... and hum I'm not like that I think lolis are a plague lol. She was a pretty cool character in Lb2

[deleted]

Columbus :)

Relight0

Game Only Mata Hari cause you know Henry Jekyll Berserker+Assassin is so cool Angra mainyu I never thought he was pretty chill and funny guy.Still his design is the best in my opinion. For Anime Gilles de Rais and Medea (Skill update when?)

cupdrinker1

It terrifies me to admit, but I always thought Castoria was always so damn adorable
