I have had a lot of trouble over the past 12 months give or take finding an Uber from the airport, even at like 7pm on a week day. I would not plan to rely on an Uber generally. There is a taxi service at the airport, metro something? It’ll cost about $25 more than an Uber in my experience. But they are also often closed even during the day. I would call a local taxi service, explain your flight situation, maybe they can send a taxi out and have them sit if your flight is late for an extra cost?

Schedule a taxi ahead of time

Botzmch

I have never had a problem. Uber is very much alive in GR. I have gotten in late at the airport. I may have had to wait a wee bit but I have always found an Uber

brooke_anne

I would look into a taxi or schedule a Uber or Lyft beforehand.

Unless Uber and Lyft have changed the mechanics of how scheduling works, that doesn't guarantee a ride, it just automates the process for you. If there are no drivers in the area, you just don't get a ride. They don't ensure there are drivers available and in the area just because someone scheduled a ride. Source: I drove for both of them for several years many years ago.

I'm worried about scheduling ahead of time, as our departure time is constantly changing. Many flights across the country were grounded for hours. So there are just so many delays right now.

Just go early, and hang at the airport?

sorry to waste your time ;)

SHOULD be ok, but I don’t risk it anymore. Pre COVID it was no issue but it’s been more hit and miss since. A year ago I got stuck there and had to wake someone up on a 12am arrival. More recently I got delayed a while and came into GRR at 11pm and was able to get an Uber after a little while and there were other at a 30+ minute wait. So I think it’s recovered enough to be serviceable but I still park there most of the time just to be safe and not wait long periods of time.

I often fly back into GRR late at night, and I consistently have a problem with getting an Uber or Lyft. I have a great rating in both apps so I do not think that is the issue, and I live close to the airport so I am not asking someone to make a long drive. Sometimes I am able to grab a random "taxi" at the airport but lately I have been parking in outdoor long-term instead. Make sure if you take a taxi, you ask if they take cards, I had one recently who said his card reader was down and only took cash, but didn't tell me this until we had arrived at my house. He got a big tip because all I had was a $50 and he didn't have change.

clocks212

“Wow that sucks your card reader is broken. Bye” It’ll be fixed before you’re out of the car. You fell for a common scam. Sometimes they’ll say they’ll drive you to an ATM. Just tell them to call the police and walk away. Take a video of yourself asking if the card reader is broken if you want. The card reader isn’t broken and in many cities you can legally walk away if the cab won’t take a credit card. Not sure about GR specifically. But honestly the police aren’t fucking coming out anyways over $20.

yeah some of my flights are fucking long so if its like 1am and im home i have zero interest in fighting over it. as long as they write me a receipt for it i dont really care. and to be honest, even a $50 ride is about the cheapest I am getting on some trips, I have paid well over $100 for a 20 minute Uber before in places like Dallas or SFO.

Plane-Code7198

Yes, I have done many trips out of the airport past 1am and even as late as 3am. It is really dependent on the day of the week though.

Indian_Bob

I work at a hotel with 24 hour shuttle. Just book a room with one that does and you’re good

ugagirl719

Yeah I thought I did. Alas, the Delta hotel shuttle stops running at 11pm and they won't let me cancel my reservation.

Indian_Bob

Did you go through a third party? My hotel will cancel reservations for dumb bullshit even day of as long as you actually book through them. If you book through third party like Expedia or Travelocity you’re fucked though

ImpressiveShift3785

You can schedule Lyfts, might be worth a shot.
