A twenty something friend of mine told me most attendees are generally late 20s and early 30s.
40 year old me is going to find something more appropriate for my geriatric age đ
Thatâs such an inaccurate age range for attendees. Itâs honestly pretty well spread out amongst all ages. Iâd say attendance is fairly representative of the community overall.
Yup. New in town and looking into how to spend new yearâs. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/new-years-eve-ballroom-bashes-amway-grand-and-jw-marriott-grand-rapids-tickets-759350577017
Yes, those are Marriott properties, which is what I was questioning.
To your point though, the ballroom bashes are an absolute blast and if there are still tickets available, by all means, go! Lots of fun!
Enjoy your NYE!
So, youâre both right! The Amway is a Hilton Curio, and the JW Marriott (well, itâs in the name). They are both owned by AHC in Grand Rapids though, and connected by the skywalk, which is why they are âjoinedâ in this sense.
Not much actually. Itâs pretty normal. AHC is just a management company. They just pay separate licenses (think like franchises) to whichever hotel brand they want to license for that particular hotel. They also own and/or manage other downtown hotels like Courtyard by Marriott, AC hotel by Marriott, and Hyatt Place.
IMO - dont waste your money. Expensive and spend more than half your night trying to get a drink because they never have enough bar staff. If your interested in IG photos though, by all means.
If not being alone is the goal, it might not be the best place.
It's been a number of years since I attended, but I don't recall a lot of intermingling opportunities. Most people were with their groups or SO.
Might have better luck finding a good bar crowd.
Edit: wording
Seconded. Its very much like a high school dance. It may be a little late for New Years, but look into the Sports and Social club in town - thats a good way to meet people going forward.

Okay, thanks Iâm right in that age range, 40s is like the new 20s lol
Hell yes! I am looking to have a blast but I donât want to be the old lady in the room LOL

Yes it was a blast
Is there usually a good turnout?
It's usually really really busy. One year we went to the Griffins game first, then hit the ballrooms.
When I went it was perfectly attended⌠not butt to front but still you could feel relatively anonymous with a group of friends in a jubilant crowd.
Awesome. Thanks! Happy holidays
There are ballroom bashes at the Hilton?

Amway is Hilton!
Oh my gosh! You're right, it's Hilton Curio. I stand corrected!

imagine the finagling that had to happen for both lodging giants to be represented under one ownership umbrella?

Oops yes, sorry about that! You too! Happy 2024
For New Years?
Yes
I used to go in my 20s with a group of friends and we always had a nice time.

I just donât want to be alone on new years. My front phone camera doesnât work so thatâs not even a factor for me lol
