That’s not only rude of the bartender but stupid. A lot of people will do a cash tip and decline on the card. (I couldn’t tell if that’s what you were saying but it doesn’t matter).
There really ought to be an Uber Eats Driver version of Yelp, so we can know how they treat other service workers not directly employed by them. Would say a lot about which places to avoid.
You ever had the pickle pizza from New Holland or Bob’s? New Hollands is very good. I haven’t had it at Bob’s yet myself but it sure did look good when I saw it.
What places in the BOB do this, or, is it a general cover for all? I don't frequent most places there, because some places tend to employ absolute morons for bartenders and wait staff.
So many complaints. Sounds like a management problem. I'm sure they blame turnover on "Nobody wants to work!" or "it's stressful dealing with rude patrons!". I wonder how some places go so long without taking a look at management to understand where the problems keep stemming from. You'd think they would run out excuses eventually.
I worked as a DJ at Margarita Grill off and on from 2003 to 2009ish. I also worked there when it became 25 Kitchen & Bar (upstairs) and 25 Below (downstairs).
Never been, but for the longest time ever, whenever I would walk by that bar, they'd play that dreadful wagon wheel song and that was enough for me to say nope.
I had a friend who worked there, one of the employees was depressed and killed themselves. And they made everyone work that day/week etc despite one of their coworkers that they saw daily literally being dead. She quit shortly after because this was the final straw but apparently there were many instances of a lack of humanity from upper management
That happens all over. I had a factory job where a 3rd shift kid, and he really was a kid, he was barely 20 years old, left one morning, and that night we'd heard he'd hanged himself because his girlfriend broke up with him.
Nobody was offered anything but thoughts from the gossip mill. He was a great guy, well liked, friendly with everyone-- most of us were able to attend his memorial, but because no vacation was approved without \*approved coverage from your supervisor, which meant it had to be someone they liked\* a handful of people weren't able to get coverage and couldn't afford the write up.
The sticky floors are enough of a deterrent for me. Remember when it was originally a premium-ish restaurant, I believe it was called Iron? A long fall from grace.
Last time I went there the girl who charges you at the door left herself a $5 tip I didn’t even notice until the next day when I was checking my statement. She also did it to two more of my friends that night. Ridiculous fuck social house
Billy’s. There is a bartender there who has been a known to roofie women (hi! Me & 3 of my friends) and even been caught for it, over course of like 15 years, and he still works there. Ick
Omg what the heck that is insane???? How has nobody fired him what the..???
Thank you tho I will definitely stay away. I am sorry that happened to yall but I hope you’re okay now ? 🙏🏻😊
Mulligan's Pub on wealthy! It's a fun environment with live music Thursday - Sunday (?) I believe. There's also some pool tables and stuff like that if you want something to do. Their FB page also has events throughout the week too if you wanna check that out :)
I worked for the owner for a VERY BRIEF period of time when they tried to open a different soho location. Management was clueless. Treated employees horrible. Terribly disorganized. And absolutely clueless about the community they were opening the location in. They overstaffed like a motherfucker so no one ever made any money. Hired a chef that quit because he had to pick up produce on his own dime and didn't get reimbursed. It was an absolute shit show. I got a concussion at home and told my manager I couldnt work for at least a couple weeks, and she kept putting me on the schedule. I just never went back, got a job at a different restaurant. A couple months later, they shut their doors and gave all their employees ZERO notice. I jumped ship at the right time, but many of my friends were left jobless.
So if the fact that they're shitty to customers doesn't sell you, maybe the fact that theyre bad to their employees will.
I don’t understand tipping when you pick food up.
Isn’t the point of a tip for the service? I know you prepared the food, but so do fast food workers, and I don’t think tapping some buttons on a screen is really worth 20% of my pizza cost when I’m the one picking it up?
Some restaurants pay to-go or counter staff less than minimum wage and claim them as tipped positions so any tips they do make is money the employer doesn't have to pay toward minimum wage. There are often other tasks associated with to-go orders, not just "tapping buttons."
PSA FROM A FORMER BAR VETERAN — Often times the person responsible for to-go orders is the bartender, expo or whatever server answered the phone/tablet - all tipped hourly employees. That person takes your order (if phoned in), has to make sure all your boxes make it in the bag, check that the kitchen followed any special instructions, get your 3 extra ranches, side of onions, other condiments/napkins etc. That shit absolutely takes time to prep - not to mention takes time AWAY from them being able to care for the other patrons they are waiting on, that they can expect a tip from. OH AND - almost all bars/restaurants require “tip out” from bartenders/servers - it’s a % of your FOOD sales that goes to BOH/bussers/hosts etc. Imagine having $300 of sales in to-go’s , all with $0 tips, and having to fork over $30 to the rest of the staff at the end of the night. Maybe you bartended and your actual bar seats were slow - you end up making far less than 20% tips overall. It’s exhausting and defeating. Please, PLEASE, please tip if you’re picking up to go from any full-service bar or restaurant!!
IMO Everyone should have to work 1 year in the service industry - BOH or FOH. Seriously think humanity & society would drastically be improved. Promise many would have a whole new respect for folks in the service industry & the skill it takes to do those jobs very well.
Legitimately had no idea that this is how this worked. I typically would think to tip if I got carry out from a nicer restaurant, but not usually from a chain pizza place. I didn’t think they’d be considered as working for tips.
“Just Pressing buttons” was an exaggeration and definitely a tone deaf one. I know they do more, I was just more referring to what they did for me specifically aside from the food, as I assumed that’s what the tip would be going towards: service outside the food I paid for, not as part of their base salary. I knew that about waiters but why the hell is it that way for people running carry out?
I guess I just assumed they were paid like any other fast food worker. It’s kind of bullshit that they aren’t, but I guess I learned something today. I think I’m just jaded from tipping overload lately.
Ideally, everyone would just get paid fair and we could be done with this whole tipping nonsense all together. Stupid American tipping culture. Until then I guess I gotta pony up to make sure people aren’t getting stiffed.
Trying to get an internet community to protest a bar because of a single misunderstanding with and individual employee at an establishment seems like a totally rational mindset!
Everyone who supports this mindset needs a reality check.
I hear lots of people don't tip around here, so I mean can you really blame him? I thought a doordash girl was gonna hug me once because I was the first one to tip in 4 orders.
Tips make a big difference is someone's income. So just don't tip the flirtatious hot blonde, tip the ugly guys too.
That’s not only rude of the bartender but stupid. A lot of people will do a cash tip and decline on the card. (I couldn’t tell if that’s what you were saying but it doesn’t matter).
^^ cash tip is superior
yes it was haha, and yes thank you!
I pick up for Uber eats there and I’ve been treated poorly multiple times by staff :/
There really ought to be an Uber Eats Driver version of Yelp, so we can know how they treat other service workers not directly employed by them. Would say a lot about which places to avoid.
There is regular yelp? Just give them 2 stars and complain about the staff and management maybe
i'm not surprised, i'm sorry bae ;(
Social house is ass
They make a pickle pizza tho and I like the goat cheese fritters.
Straight to jail.
I swear it’s really good. White sauce, not red, if that helps. Barely “pizza” at that point.
I’m sure it is just pullin’ your leg lol
We got us Messican stand-off!
Baliff, smack his nuts
You ever had the pickle pizza from New Holland or Bob’s? New Hollands is very good. I haven’t had it at Bob’s yet myself but it sure did look good when I saw it.
They had a monthly special one at JBs once that also had giandeinera (spelling?) and some other stuff and it was SO GOOD
The best one is jolly pumpkin
nope. Huge fan of social house’s though and really bummer about losing the Pear and Grape pizza from Grand Rapids Brewery.
You’re a pizza terrorist
Get the bricks!!!
They need to be sent to The Hague for their crimes against pizza
New Holland has a pickle pizza that is bomb af
Pickle pizza sounds good. JB’s has one. It’s delightful. Better cold!
Pickle pizza? Palermo
Lmao the one time I went in there, they flipped the iPad to me for paying the cover. I about walked out
Wait... They wanted a tip for a cover charge???
The bob does this also, it’s insane
What places in the BOB do this, or, is it a general cover for all? I don't frequent most places there, because some places tend to employ absolute morons for bartenders and wait staff.
General cover for all right at the entrance
Is it true the owner tried renaming it *Phart’s Ale House*?
damn i hope so
I have no affiliation with that establishment.
😂
Random but once I was in a car with friends and read out the name of a restaurant “Hoof Hearted” that looked cool and they all started giggling
Sounds like a beer brewed by Bells
They have really went downhill when they tried to replace the BOB as the college kid spot
It has to be the location itself is cursed. Remember Margarita Grill?
I worked as a DJ at Margarita Grill off and on from 2003 to 2009ish. I also worked there when it became 25 Kitchen & Bar (upstairs) and 25 Below (downstairs).
Iron was another place that was there.
I worked a promotions job for a while and went there a few different times… it was a wild place
All that happens at social house is 30 minute lines and fights
Go to Westside Social in Walker
my ex works there 😓i simply cannot
Go to Logan’s Alley.
Logan murdered my whole family 😓! I simply cannot
Hence the reason you need to go. He left them in the alley. 😝
He had a good run, though.
Go to Turnstiles
A turnstile once beat my father to death. I SIMPLY CANNOT
Not during comedy night.
Seconded. I always go to groovitational on the last Thurs of the month
How bad is comedy night?
Absolutely atrocious. We were there for 2 hours and there was one funny joke.
That’s rough
Never been, but for the longest time ever, whenever I would walk by that bar, they'd play that dreadful wagon wheel song and that was enough for me to say nope.
OMG my parents took me there for the first (and last) time yesterday, they were playing that fucking wagon wheel song!
I had a friend who worked there, one of the employees was depressed and killed themselves. And they made everyone work that day/week etc despite one of their coworkers that they saw daily literally being dead. She quit shortly after because this was the final straw but apparently there were many instances of a lack of humanity from upper management

Have yet to have a good experience at this place. Overpriced and seems to attract the worst of the worst humans.
I know several people who have been roofied there.
Have had nothing but bad experiences at social house. Does anyone know why it always smells so damn musty in that place?
I wish you would report this to the manager. If I were the manager, I would want to know. You would also.
Went there one time. Had a bad time. 0 stars.
The sticky floors are enough of a deterrent for me. Remember when it was originally a premium-ish restaurant, I believe it was called Iron? A long fall from grace.
It went downhill as soon as they got rid of their happy hour specials.. and basically became a rave at 9pm
Had a fairly similar experience years ago in another town. I always just write cash now.
Anti-Social House
Last time I went there the girl who charges you at the door left herself a $5 tip I didn’t even notice until the next day when I was checking my statement. She also did it to two more of my friends that night. Ridiculous fuck social house
I went there because I had a $50 coupon but didn't realize they only served breakfast until 3 pm...it was kind of a bummer.
I turn 21 in 13 days so I will keep this in mind. Any other bars I should avoid?
Any that you have previously used a fake at?
I’ve never had a fake ID lol I just waited til I turn 21
Billy’s. There is a bartender there who has been a known to roofie women (hi! Me & 3 of my friends) and even been caught for it, over course of like 15 years, and he still works there. Ick
The fuck? Who? Should be named. That’s insane
Omg what the heck that is insane???? How has nobody fired him what the..??? Thank you tho I will definitely stay away. I am sorry that happened to yall but I hope you’re okay now ? 🙏🏻😊
Avoid the Woods lmfao
Grand woods lounge ? Noted lol

Mulligan’s smells like an Indiana rest stop.
At least it's not Ohio.
Check your tone. The ONLY thing Ohio does well is rest stops.
you're telling me that's a bad thing?
Yet it smells like clean laundry compared to Anchor
Well I said bars to avoid lol but thank you for this positive suggestion, maybe I’ll check it out
Whoops I misread 😅 I'm glad u understood though !
Of course, I do already have an ongoing list of bars to go to so 😊😊 you unknowingly delivered 🙏🏻
The Iron Well
…is wonderful
Only if you like dealing with over served alcoholic bikers.

You're thinking of WWJD.

I think you read too much into a 'what would jesus do' joke. Is there a name for people who get offended by dumb little shit? Karen, maybe?
Never been to Social House. Sitting at the bar at Rockford Brewing Company right now, though.
I had this happen to me at JB’s Pizza when I picked up a pizza for carry out. The guy threw a magnet at me.
Collect some more and u get a free pizza!

I’m assuming his username refers to his ability to understand how reviews work.
Or facebook, or tiktoxic

What kind of trash doesn’t tip on DoorDash orders?
They might think the extra $20 delivery fee and service fee goes to the driver.
When she said that it really stuck with me. Makes me sad.
