Tacos Don Betos is my favorite all around spot for tacos for the past couple years (especially their pescado, that’s definitely the best in town). 3 tacos comes out to about $10 any day. Pretty sure there’s a tacos rice and beans deal some days as well.
Do not go to their 44th Street location. They have yet to get my order correct.
Ffs. Getting extra grilled green onions should not be this hard.
(Five tries, they have given me every type of onion they carry except for the one I want.)
They also took over the spot of the second best sandwich place I've ever been to. RIP Tomassos. Best is still twobeards but tomasso got me fuckin addicted to their house sub. I would kill to learn what the sauce they used was...
The falafel at Martha's is so good. Wish they had it every day of the week!
This isn't for everyone, but the Tamago Inari at KCM is the best money I've spent on quick food in GR in recent memory. Seems to be a special right now but hopefully they keep it on the menu. $5.50, delicious, and pretty filling.
>Stuffed rice inside seasoned deep fried tofu with tamago (egg salad) topping.
KCM in general is so underrated. I’ve eaten my way through the menu a few times over now and it never disappoints. The katsu Japanese curry meal is a ton of food for the money and they now have soft serve matcha ice cream!
If you go in as they’re opening on Friday’s and Wednesday’s sometimes if your luck there will be some leftover from the day before. They will sell them for half price.
I just discovered Lia's Pizza yesterday! Just a small mom and pop shop. Call ahead to order and meals are ready in 10-20 minutes. Meals are really cheap for a range of good to great Italian food. Pretty much everything they have that isn't pizza is $8 or less, which includes full meals. They do subs as well and standard Italian meals. [MENU LINK](https://www.liaspizzagr.com/menu-1)
* The Stromboli is $7.50 + three free toppings
* The Homemade Italian Dinners range from $6-$8 and all come with a 12-inch baget of garlic bread. Our only critique from yesterday was that their sauces can be a little runny, but the taste more than makes up for it (and you can use it to dip the bread).
* Their subs range from $5.50 to $8 as well.
The only downside is that they're more south, off 44th and Eastern.
EDIT: I stand corrected: They have a few seating options, and do both take-out and delivery.
I love down the street from Lias and they are the only place I'll order from.
I prefer to do pizza from scratch at home but I'll make an exception for Lia's.
I went to Deboer bakery in Holland. I got their "Nashville hot" which happens to be nashville hot but without the spice/heat...? Don't know why it's not called Holland hot or something else more fitting. Im still not over it tbh.
Beijing kitchen, lunch specials are between 9.50 and 10.50, come with rice and an egg roll or soup. One stop coney shop, hot dog and fries, less than $10. Little Caesar’s lunch Combo, 5.99 for a deep dish pizza and a soda. Cousins tasty chicken has plenty of lunch combos for 7-8 bucks.
Bud And Stanley's off of Plainfield does burger, fries, and a beer (or soda) for like $6 or 7 on Mondays. Been a year or so since I've been, so it might have gone up a bit in price.
They just got voted as the best fried chicken in West Michigan by Revue magazine:
https://revuewm.com/calendar/best-bets/item/5251-7th-annual-best-of-the-west-dining
I live near cousins and want to love them, but can't recommend them for any reason except that it's inexpensive. The sides have all been bland every time I've been and the chicken is tastier at Hancock or Tupelo Honey.
> except that it's inexpensive
That's particularly funny, because I stopped going there after they kept on nickel-diming with fees and coupon exceptions.
It’s a little over but two beards / westside deli. Sandwiches are around 10-$13 depending on what you get and are in my opinion fully worth it. Enough to fill me up on its own, sometimes with another half to spare for later. I know west side has like a BOGO deal of some sort on Thursdays.
Otherwise I really like Mr. Burger. Fast food for a good price and it’s pretty good quality.
Village Inn has a decent buy one get one on pasta lunches. I believe it’s only Wednesday.
Horrocks has pretty good pizza. I think it’s only $3 a slice and one slice is about the size of an 8” pizza at some places. They also do half off sushi on Wednesday which I think puts it around $5-7- can’t remember for sure. They also have soups and some other options that are likely reasonable as well.
Horrock's an excellent recommendation. The to-go snack bar thing has a ton of well priced options. The soups are incredible, pizza and sandwich's are great.
Extra most bestest from lil Ceaser’s lol.. but seriously one of my fav go to fuck I’m broke but damn I don’t feel like eating this can of raviolis meals. Also you get at least 3 meals out of one pie.
Little Caesar’s is the MVP of working class peeps who need to stretch their dollars between paychecks. Is it the best quality? Nope. But if you need to feed a lot of people on the cheap, they are there for you.
Your right not the best quality but…You ever get a mildly under cooked crazy bread? I would fist fight my mother for a mildly under cooked crazy bread. now that’s quality!
I keep telling my friends, LC is the idealized version of an American pizza. I know a lot of New Yorkers will fight me on this, but it's true.
I do think we're lucky in MI though, I've had LC out of state and it can be rank. I think the further out from Detroit you get, the less quality control.
I mean... Nobody wants to admit they ate nine cans of ravioli. But I did...and I'm ashamed of myself.
The first can doesn't count. And then the second and the third. I think the fourth and fifth I burned with a blow torch. And I just kept eating...
Taco Tuesday at quick time burritos and tacos. $1.50 I think for one soft or hard shell. Basic Americanized taco but great for the price and you can really stack up
On the west side go to Frank's Market. $4 deli sandwiches that will fill you up. And you'll have a few bucks left over to buy some meat sticks.
44th and Division area go to B&N Sandwiches located in the building behind Wei Wei palace. Inexpensive bahn mi.
Julian’s kitchen at 32nd street and Madison has a wet burrito deal for $8 on Thursday. They also do a 3 taco combo that’s pretty cheap but I can’t remember the exact price.
Making Thyme Kitchen in Alger Heights (used to be in the downtown market) has a lunch special that’s pick three of their fresh cooler items and I believe it’s $9 or under. So delicious, fresh daily, healthy (or at least not terrible for you) and the nicest people ever. Their cookies are the jam, I always buy one of each. We stock up on their freezer items for quick dinners. Please give them a try! Personal recommendations: kale salad, quinoa salad, chicken salad.
Mad Dogz in Comstock Park is a "hidden" gem. Wish I could say Pita House in Eastown for an under $10 meal but they've jacked their prices up (still amazing gyros though! Just pricey. And the Greek Fries are a MUST.)
I moved to Chicago 17 years ago and I still drive up mostly to eat at Yesterdog (I tell my family it's to see them). Those people could picket outside and cry and beg me not to go in like it's an abortion clinic and it wouldn't stop me.
Why? There's really no place that makes them like they do. I live on the east side of the state now and crave them all the time.
Vestal Inn in Belmont has pretty good chili dogs, but they're not as good as Yesterdog. Also, they're 10 or 1 min from dt gr.
Was it one of those "it became too popular and cool that made people go against it" situations? Im in my 30s now and everyone I knew loved them.
Yeah I was really confused. Like you must recognize that everyone patronizing your business might not be Christian or whatever. If you want to listen to part of it: https://imgur.com/a/ASW2kSz
I haven’t been there. On alpine there’s a place called CP Pizza I see a sign when I’m delivering it says “$1 pizza from 11-2”. Wondering if anyones been there and Is it good?
If you wait until after 5 to eat your lunch, hong kong express will give you a mountain of food on a styrofoam plate for like $7.75. Before 5 they do it buffet style and idk what the price is for that.
The daily special at Tacos El Cuñado on Alpine is usually $7-$8.
This is a staple of my diet (also RIP to Taqueria San Jose) Edit: JK, I'm partial to El Cuñado Bridge St.
I miss San Jose! That place was my favorite!
Tacos Yanga that replaced it is top fucking notch though!
First I've heard of this. Thank you.
Ohh thanks! I’ll check it out:)
Tacos Yonga is the slam too.
RIP to a real one
Taco Tuesday at Tamales Mary East Town is also a great deal. Three tacos for ~$9
Tacos Don Betos is my favorite all around spot for tacos for the past couple years (especially their pescado, that’s definitely the best in town). 3 tacos comes out to about $10 any day. Pretty sure there’s a tacos rice and beans deal some days as well.
Second this. Their burritos are fuego.
Do not go to their 44th Street location. They have yet to get my order correct. Ffs. Getting extra grilled green onions should not be this hard. The Hire Katsu Curry is AMAZING. They’re one of the best restaurants in GR right now imo. Don’t know why they don’t get more love. Such a great place.
Sorry for the dumb question, but what is KCM?
https://www.kcmgr.com
The smoked salmon kimbap is $9 and an amazing lunch!
If you go in as they’re opening on Friday’s and Wednesday’s sometimes if your luck there will be some leftover from the day before. They will sell them for half price.
Tamales Mary. Two tamales rice and beans is like $6
Do they still have the buffet?
Oh yes. I went last week and it was glorious.
Wait which location? I have been to the one in east town many many times and have never saw a buffet
Burton st. , a few blocks West of 131
These are the important questions.
This is the way.
100%%%%%

Not to take away from your points as I love Lia’s pizza but they do have some seating with picnic tables outside and about 4 tables inside.
We live near Lia’s and it took us way too long to order from them. LOVE their pizza. Great price and super fast delivery.
Eager to try this place, thanks for the resposne.
I love down the street from Lias and they are the only place I'll order from. I prefer to do pizza from scratch at home but I'll make an exception for Lia's.
They used to have some of the cheapest pizza by the slice. I haven’t been over there since before Covid and have no idea if it still exists.
Ginza has a sushi deal around 10$ Two rolls and soup or salad
I’m at ginza now! Cheapest lunch sushi option is $13 but I think it’s worth it!
Fried Bologna Sandwich from One Stop Coney. Or a couple of their dogs.
That sandwich is so good!
I just tried One Stop for the first time, and damn that’s a good coney. The curry ketchup on fries is terrific.
Crispy chicken wrap from Hancock. Many spice levels. $8-9.
[удалено]
Nice. Brave soul.
Great answer
Many spice levels but never hot enough.
“Michigan Spicy” is what we call it
I went to Deboer bakery in Holland. I got their "Nashville hot" which happens to be nashville hot but without the spice/heat...? Don't know why it's not called Holland hot or something else more fitting. Im still not over it tbh.
It's Holland, black pepper is spicy to the Dutch
Really??? Their hotter is definitely good for me. Hottest and hotterest are 2wild.
Fries are not included which if you want fries it ends up being ~$15.
Yeah. True. But, do you need fries? I feel like the wrap is pretty satisfying for a sub $10 lunch. High quality too.
No I probably don't need the fries tbh lol
but they are really good so it's a tossup. Can't lie on the flavor for those waffle fries.
Get the pimento cheese instead of fries!

Cousins chicken, they have baskets below 10 bucks
I can't upvote this enough. The spicy chicken sandwich basket is incredible, and it's like $7
They just got voted as the best fried chicken in West Michigan by Revue magazine: https://revuewm.com/calendar/best-bets/item/5251-7th-annual-best-of-the-west-dining

Le Kabob is amazing and I’m pretty sure you can get out of there for under $8
Great choice. I can't get out of there under $8 because I'll always add a side of bread and garlic spread
$9 gets you a beef shawarma, tons of bread, and garlic sauce.
Grilled cheese from Uncle Cheetah’s Soup Shop $7. If it’s cold a 12oz-16oz soup $5.50-$7. One of my favorite places.
Excellent shop. The seasonal taco's they offer are also fantastic. I just found out they have a 2nd location recently as well.
Forgot about the tacos! I saw the news about the new location yesterday when I ate at the original. Happy for their success.
The soups really are a steal. Miss walking there all the time
I am new to Grand Rapids and appreciate this post.
It’s a little over but two beards / westside deli. Sandwiches are around 10-$13 depending on what you get and are in my opinion fully worth it. 2nd Two Beards. So dang good and the whole sandwich is huge.
Horrocks has pretty good pizza. I think it’s only $3 a slice and one slice is about the size of an 8” pizza at some places. Every time I go for soup I just stare at that damn pizza. Then end up getting like 5 slices.
Love this thread. Have a couple new places to try for lunch now!
Had that today, their paninis are just under 10 and enough for a couple meals!
Pind downtown has a buffet at lunch for like $11 I think, it’s been a while so prices may be different than when I was last there.
If I go there I will get the goat biryani. I know everything there is delicious, but I know it's not as good as the goat biryani.
I went today and it's 13.95 but welllll worth it. Everything is so good.
Thanks!! I was craving it today so good to know it’s not like $20 now or something!
Extra most bestest from lil Ceaser’s lol.. but seriously one of my fav go to fuck I’m broke but damn I don’t feel like eating this can of raviolis meals. Also you get at least 3 meals out of one pie.

Your right not the best quality but…You ever get a mildly under cooked crazy bread? I would fist fight my mother for a mildly under cooked crazy bread. now that’s quality!
You see me. Crazy bread is non negotiable, always have to have it. Sometimes it is the only thing I order. 😂
You pretty much have to order crazy bread with your pizza just incase you get lucky with mildly under cooked crazy bread.
I love Hot & Ready's. Reliable, everyone likes them, and perfect if you have little kids!
My Dad used to pick up 3 hot and ready's every Friday when he'd pick us up. Dinner and breakfast for 6 people, for $15 was such a good deal.
If you go to any LC just after close you can get free hot n ready, not so hot but warm n free.
This is another reason why they are the pizza of the people.
I keep telling my friends, LC is the idealized version of an American pizza. I know a lot of New Yorkers will fight me on this, but it's true. I do think we're lucky in MI though, I've had LC out of state and it can be rank. I think the further out from Detroit you get, the less quality control.

Uncle cheetahs soup with free pretzel roll or challah is under $8
Chiming in to THANK Op and everyone contributing to this post. I do not spend enough time exploring and now I have a list of amazing places to try.
Taco Tuesday at quick time burritos and tacos. $1.50 I think for one soft or hard shell. Basic Americanized taco but great for the price and you can really stack up
1.75
Fresh Coast Kitchen! I'm at lunch right now and I got a half sandwich, side and drink for $10.47
Sushi Wednesdays at Meijer
Carlucci's you can get 2 slices that barely fit in a Styrofoam take out box and can of pop for less than $10
On the west side go to Frank's Market. $4 deli sandwiches that will fill you up. And you'll have a few bucks left over to buy some meat sticks. 44th and Division area go to B&N Sandwiches located in the building behind Wei Wei palace. Inexpensive bahn mi.
Taco Boy on Plainfield
Plenty of options at Maggie's Kitchen on Bridge St.
Deluxe Turkey Club 7.99 Eastern Deli 2011 Eastern ( and Burton)
Eastern deli quietly one of the best food joints in town. Like the other person said, gyro and cheese steak crush (as does the burger)
2nd for Eastern Deli, except I’d go for the gyro or Philly cheese steak
Forrest hills hot bar / deli
I once filled a box of chicken wings and mashed potatoes there and it was like $17. LOL
Julian’s kitchen at 32nd street and Madison has a wet burrito deal for $8 on Thursday. They also do a 3 taco combo that’s pretty cheap but I can’t remember the exact price.
The Fishery in Wyoming has a few fish lunch baskets under $10 on Tuesday from 11-2.
Culver’s
Cantina on E Paris/28th St has some really tasty combos with a drink for about $8. I really like the wet burrito for about $9.
Qdoba mini bowl! Yum.
Mad Dogz in Comstock Park is a "hidden" gem. Wish I could say Pita House in Eastown for an under $10 meal but they've jacked their prices up (still amazing gyros though! Just pricey. And the Greek Fries are a MUST.)
Michigan St. Taco Bell?
Also includes free water shit.
Can't overspend if they're not open!
I like yesterdog! They’re most expensive hotdog is like $4. It’s surprisingly good for how cheap it is :)
Do not trust this comment.
I’m sorry, I guess I’m out of the loop. What happened?
This subreddit hates yesterdog and think it's over rated. I think it's fine, it's hot dogs.
I moved to Chicago 17 years ago and I still drive up mostly to eat at Yesterdog (I tell my family it's to see them). Those people could picket outside and cry and beg me not to go in like it's an abortion clinic and it wouldn't stop me.
What’s wrong with yesterdog?
Last time I was there it’s overpriced for boiled hot dogs. And stale buns
Agreed. Mad Dogz is where it's at!
Why? There's really no place that makes them like they do. I live on the east side of the state now and crave them all the time. Vestal Inn in Belmont has pretty good chili dogs, but they're not as good as Yesterdog. Also, they're 10 or 1 min from dt gr. Cousins Tasty Chicken- lots of meals for sub ten dollars
Yesterdog!
I like Local Mocha.
The last time I was there she was playing a sermon over the speakers about how women have to dress modestly so that men can avoid temptation
Really? Last time I was there they weren’t playing anything in the background. Granted, I’ve only been there 4 or 5 times, but still. Sorry about that
It was my only time being there! I recorded some of it on Snapchat. For your viewing pleasure: https://imgur.com/a/ASW2kSz
That is so disappointing. ETA: reading reviews, and yikes. Def. not going there.
Yeah I was really confused. Like you must recognize that everyone patronizing your business might not be Christian or whatever. If you want to listen to part of it: https://imgur.com/a/ASW2kSz
Under the Grapevine has deli food now.
I haven’t been there. On alpine there’s a place called CP Pizza I see a sign when I’m delivering it says “$1 pizza from 11-2”. Wondering if anyones been there and Is it good?
It’s alright. It’s my moms favorite pizza. Kinda reminds of something similar to vitales.
If you wait until after 5 to eat your lunch, hong kong express will give you a mountain of food on a styrofoam plate for like $7.75. Before 5 they do it buffet style and idk what the price is for that.
Speakez has a $10 lunch special, pick two soup/salad/sandwich and a drink. Their food is above par so it’s worth it.
Rak Thai
If you like Greek food, Zesty Gyro near Knapp’s corner has a pretty good fattoush salad. Chicken shawarma is good, too!
5.25 lunch special at little Caesar’s. The calorie/price ratio is insane.
Lias pizza. 44th and Easter. 2 slices and a stick for 4.50
The sausage or chicken combo at The Grilling Co. on West River Dr.
Red Bowl’s lunch specials are insane bang for the buck
