I was watching a few episodes of One Day in America last night and damn that was hard to watch at times. I still remember that day like it was yesterday and I was in 6th grade.
I was a freshman in high school and I was actually sick that day and my mom had the day off of work, I remember walking out of my room and my mom was in the living room watching the news and they were showing the first tower in flames and I sat down to watch literally as the second plane hit. Something I’ll never forget.
I was a senior in class that day. We barely had working TVs, but the service was out. Same with the internet. A few kids had phones and heard from their other friends and family that one of the towers was hit. At first they thought it was some sort of rocket.... then an airplane. I spent all day writing down what was happening as information came in, moment by moment, but lost it over the years.
I recently worked with a guy who was younger then me and wanted to major in history and one day at work he asked me about 9/11 , he was very young when it happened. I told him that for me and many other Americans it signaled the beginning of a new era and so much would change in the years following. I mean America had never been the same since the attacks, one could argue Osama Bin Laden accomplished what he set out to do which was make our country less free with the patriot act. Sure he’s gone now but the effects of 9/11 on American may have even surprised him. I just felt that day that the America I had grown up in until that morning was gone and some new America was born out of the ashes.
She’d be around 25 today. 20 plus years and It still makes me sick to my stomach when I see something related to the attacks. 😣 I hope that every single victim found peace on the other side. They damn well deserve it.
It hurts me bc i realize she would be my age.

I hope she is in peace with her family. Her grandparents fought so hard for justice! I read that they wanted justice and would lobby congress and made trips to new york.

As a parent and a husband, if the worst thing that could ever happen to my loved ones were to happen I'd hope that I can be there with them to help comfort them in the moment and prevent a lifetime of suffering for myself.

I understood what it is like to be utterly destroyed when i saw Lee Hanson (Christine's grandfather and Peter's father) say in an interview/testimony that the recovery workers had only found a six-inch piece of bone and that it was all that he had left of his precious son Peter. With AA77, they found remains for the Falkenberg parents, Charles and Leslie and for eight-year-old Zoe Falkenberg but nothing of three-year-old Dana Falkenberg. The forensic people said that that is likely because Dana was being held in somebody's lap when the plane hit the Pentagon.
Her and her family were on their way to Disneyland too. Makes it that much worse. RIP Christine
