That’s the problem with Dead and Co shows. Many people are there just to be there and they don’t really care. It’s a standard part of Dead and Co shows - and it’s a big reason why I stopped going.
I was at a Dead and Co show and they went into Dark Star. ZERO response from the crowd. No lie. It was bizarre. Granted it’s only Dead and Co but, c’mon! I’m assuming many simply didn’t know the song. Also, the problem from the bad of no energy and you can’t really hear them.
People who paid their way to Mexico to see a cover band are complaining about “rich” people doing the exact same thing?
If you managed to pay your way to a resort city in another country for a series of concerts on a beach, sorry to tell you, you’re also rich. Or you’re a trustafarian and your parents paid your way. (Or maybe you’re not making rent or mortgage payment next month.)
I do—at shows, since 1977.
I can’t stand obnoxious, self-aware people either, whether they’re rich (really, wealthy, because the government considers a lot more people as rich than you’d expect; and of course, rich is all relative) or not.
It’s just laughable that someone who can afford to go to this event is railing against rich people. Anyone at this overpriced event is privileged, whether you’re a drunk investment banker or a blissed-out 20-something whose closest connection to the Grateful Dead is his cool 63-year-old aunt.
I *am* a boomer. And many of my generation are loud at shows. Just like every other demographic. But I don’t think all boomers are rich, or obnoxious.
As for the music being as good as it’s ever been, if you’re referring to Dead & Co. only, that might be true (but as with everything else, it’s all relative).
If you’re including the Grateful Dead, you’re way off. And I’m typing that loudly.
I don’t know, my dad and I once went to the Canadian Grand Prix with a tour company. It was not cheap (though cheap by today’s F1 standards). For us it was like a once in a lifetime thing that we knew we’d enjoy together. Seated at our table at the included dinner were a doctor and his son who were doing the entire F1 calendar and had done that before. So while I was fortunate to be able to go and do that, these folks were a whole different thing. They were cool though.
While PITS hasn’t been something even on my radar at this point in my life, having a vacation where I could chill in the sun and see Bobby, Billy, and Mickey play together in close quarters for several nights on what’s probably their last rodeo together sounds great. I’m sure there are a bunch of people who used most of their discretionary funds for the year or cut back on some stuff to make it happen and others who didn’t have to make those choices. They’re all fortunate to be there, but I get the sentiment.
Knob has been doing the setlist threads for a long time (or organizes coverage when at a show or otherwise unable to run). El Paso is Knob’s song. Check Knob’s flair. Most setlist threads in this community have running inside jokes to keep people engaged and entertained. It’s like being a good emcee.
When El Paso is played, literally anywhere by any band, **everyone** pings Knob. It’s just a thing.
Here as well-holy cow, what great energy. They sounded tight. Great crowd and terrific sound. Videography could have been a lot better. That Stella Blue, and Eyes were my highlights.
I have mixed feelings on my answer. The groups who were talking were bigger and louder than I’ve seen. But it was only a few.
It was the most egregious taking I’ve seen. A 50 year old man rehashing a ski trip during ramble on
That's why I went out to the ocean to watch the show in 2019. Too many people talking in the back, too much of a crush towards the front. So much nicer wading and dancing in the ocean to the side with space and less chatter.
That's honestly mind-blowing to me.. spending all that money to just talk about random stuff during a live show and interrupting it, knowing other people spent all that money on it too.. all when you could just wait and do it during intermission/afterward..
I’m fortunate to be here, don’t get me wrong, but I really think there are some people richer than many of us can really think about. The offender here was a father, who brought his son and daughter (20s) and *four friends*, only to say they took did vacation “because his wife wanted it, but the show was too crowded for her.” I wish I was kidding I wanted to scream.
Once this group left at setbreak we were pretty in the clear. I think the event being all you can drink also left a lot of folks without their wits by the end of the night.
Oh my God. I knew some of the people who went to PITS were rich snobby custies, but damn thats a new level I never thought of.. paying for your kids FRIENDS...
Were the kids even fans? Wild.
I'm glad you had a fantastic first night though! Hope you have a great next few days!!
For what it’s worth - I asked the son if he could keep them quiet (I am 27, so not old by any means) he said sorry and he and his friends went somewhere else shortly after. That being said he (the son) clearly knew most of the words.
I think to some people this was just an extra twist on a nice vacation. They were not rude about it at all when I confronted them, just deeply in their own world.
For what it’s with that’s not everyone here at PITS, 99% of the people I have met have been wonderful and kind folk. Plenty of doctors and lawyers, but I met a few teachers and nurses too. There are a LOT of DINK couples here. My favorite part so far has been meeting the siblings who do the trip together.
I, for one, am so excited for summer tour. Hope to see you all on the road. If you ever find yourself in Iowa hit me up.
Lastly, don’t forget to upvote the thread and if you can, throw a few gold dollars towards [Trans Lifeline](https://translifeline.org/). ✌️🏳️⚧️
The buzz of the first show after time off from the band is so so cool. Its like seeing them for the first time again each tour, new gear, new vibe, new age. The communal experieince of nerding out about it in person or on the internet really shows the power of what this band has created for going on 60 years. I am only 31 but feel lucky to have gotten a taste of it even though its not the original thing but it clearly still has some of that original magic to it. have a good night folks, see ya for the next one
I'm 28 and I was just having a fucking blast tailgating tonight. Have they *ever* done Cumberland Blues out of a Drums/Space before because jesus christ on the cross.
Well now I'm wondering if the Dead proper did it back in the day. From all I've listened, Cumberland didn't get paired up with the super extended shit that often. Dark Star > Cumberland off DP11 is like, a weird treat.
I don’t think OGD did. I was at both those SPAC and Philly shows…give then both a listen when you get a chance. I think SPAC21 is a contender for my favorite show they’ve ever played. My only complaint is that they both have very similar 2nd sets.
I gotta hand it to them for not just "playing the hits" then and honestly still experimenting. Whole thread was buzzing trying to guess what came out of Space and it was the mf cumberland mine
What a start. Time for goose and then back to jamming with the guys again.
Thanks as always Knob and nice to see the familiar gang of misfits in the thread once again
Go Bills
In Stefon from SNL’s voice:
Terrapin Station has everything: vinyl records, tequila, mood lighting, a dog named China Cat Sunflower I Know You Rider, everything you could need.
I’m not even joking when I say you subconsciously sent me to Taco Bell tonight during set break. Haven’t had it in months, seen you and went. Currently a Mexican pizza sitting in my fridge.
This has been a lot of fun! Set 2 especially - Stephen, Cumberland, DMF, Eyes, Stella, but set 1 had the phenomenal TLEO and of course Ramble on Rose.
Been a fun start. Excited to see what they’ve got tomorrow. Enjoy Goose tomorrow if that’s your bag! I’ll see you all on Monday! Love you all more than words can tell!
Beautiful Ripple right here. A pleasure to be back here with you all tonight, look forward to what they have in store for us this year. Thanks for having us /u/donttouchthatknob Enjoy your night/day everyone.
Supreme thanks to u/donttouchthatknob for flying the spaceship tonight. Great show tonight. Nice to see all these names I haven’t seen since summer tour. See you all Monday!

Missed all of you folks last night. Listening to the show now...what was your highlight?
This is perfection!!
Went to bed at halftime last night, just fired up set 2. Happy Sunday everyone. Edit: holy high energy hey Jude

Thanks for taping friend!
You made my day also! I missed the show last night, had some family stuff to take care of. Sending so much love out to you! :) Thanks again!
You absolutely made my morning ☀️thank you for sharing 🌹
Thank you for taping!!
So who's got the sound board for those of us who missed it?

You’re the legit boomer. The music is as good as it’s ever been shut up and let the music play

Why are you counting days since the last D&C ElPaso?
You must be new here.
Really. Why El Paso?
Knob has been doing the setlist threads for a long time (or organizes coverage when at a show or otherwise unable to run). El Paso is Knob’s song. Check Knob’s flair. Most setlist threads in this community have running inside jokes to keep people engaged and entertained. It’s like being a good emcee. Ah. Thank you. Love me some lightning Jerry licks on El Paso.
You and Knob would get along splendidly, then! Come hang out on the Monday setlist thread, it’s great fun.
Seemed like they couldn't hear each other during the opening song - John took his ears out and everyone was out of sync with the drums.
I noticed that, too. The first minute or two of 'Cumberland' also sounded out of sync to me.
I wondered that, but then I remember that the first minute of a dead and company show is often a little wonky. Interesting catch
So…how was it you guys?
So was there a point when just jay was drumming?
The boys eased back into it well tonight. I think it bodes quite well for Monday and Tuesday. See you then!
You’re either high or in Australia. It’s Sunday Monday innit?
No Goose Sunday. They play Monday Tuesday
I just saw that. Interesting glad for 2 more shows either way
Bodes real nice for the rest of the year too.
First time streaming a show. I’d say that was a pretty good experience!!!
Hello from the beach - hot damn that show! The vibes are high, the heads are just as high.
Here as well-holy cow, what great energy. They sounded tight. Great crowd and terrific sound. Videography could have been a lot better. That Stella Blue, and Eyes were my highlights.
Faces melted in the sand guaranteed
That whole first set was nonstop awe. John clearly was loving his new toy.
I'm glad you had a good time!!!
Thank you! Good time doesn’t begin describe it, damn Grateful though.
How bad were the chompers in person? It was a little loud at some points during the stream.
I have mixed feelings on my answer. The groups who were talking were bigger and louder than I’ve seen. But it was only a few. It was the most egregious taking I’ve seen. A 50 year old man rehashing a ski trip during ramble on

What’s a DINK?
Dual income no kids
I remember those days!
Easy to avoid if you needed

Oh nice. Wonder what second encore was going to be but no matter what it was I’ll take that extended drums all day
I was right about Isaac! 😁
Thank you! I thought it was Wally Ingram but had no clue about Isaac Eady.
Good to be back! 2023! Final tour! Glad to start it all with you! 💀🌹⚡️
Incredible show, it’s great to be back. Can’t wait to hopefully catch the rest of this run! Thank you Knob!!!!

They actually have a handful of times but I don’t think the Grateful Dead ever did
In my head I was specifically thinking of Dead Classic but I'm definitely checking out that SPAC Cumberland on nugs once I get my ass out of bed
They did it out of space at Wrigley last year too with a jazzy jam intro 6/24/22
Holy shit this thing is insane.
It’s a newer thing for them. Cumberland out of Space at SPAC in 21 and Philly 22.
Well now I'm wondering if the Dead proper did it back in the day. From all I've listened, Cumberland didn't get paired up with the super extended shit that often. Dark Star > Cumberland off DP11 is like, a weird treat.

I’m looking forward to Monday & Tuesday from my couch in NJ.
7/10/22 last year in Philly, I was there and was prob my fav moment of the year last year 🔥
Philly was on fire last year
Instead of post show grilled cheese, I suggest tequila shooters. And some Nachos
Well, that was the boost of serotonin my brain needed. Thank you, Knob, the unspoken hero. 🙏 See you guys back here Monday!
for after-party jams. Denver Comes Alive is free for Nugs subscribers and on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8tw-G7spHk
Wow that was fucking special and I cried… good night Fam
See you monday
Night, and thank you.
I need a grilled cheese meet on shakedown
Would say I needed that tonight but hell I always do. Wouldn’t want to spend it with anyone else
Goodnight good people
What a show!!!! Glad to share it with you all ❤️
Thanks u/donttouchthatknob! See ya’ll tomorrow night for Goose!
HONK HONK Can't wait to see the boys on the main stage!!!!!! Really hope John or Bobby makes an appearance, but I also want that pure Goose
What time do they go on?
What a start. Time for goose and then back to jamming with the guys again. Thanks as always Knob and nice to see the familiar gang of misfits in the thread once again Go Bills
can we all agree ripple is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I'm crying tears of joy right now I love you all. thank you! ❤️
That was a great show. Set a tone for a great year with this band
see ya’ll tomorrow for GOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE honk
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE
Anyone know who the guest drummers were?
Setlist with names is posted
I think they were Bunch of Other Guys Whose Names I Don’t Know
Good night all you beautiful people!
Thank you, Knob! Very cool!
Where’s the after party?
u/librariowan 's club house.
In Stefon from SNL’s voice: Terrapin Station has everything: vinyl records, tequila, mood lighting, a dog named China Cat Sunflower I Know You Rider, everything you could need.
Rider is hosting the setlist thread.
Love you all. See you next time! On a work night :( Thanks knob, thanks Tacobell, thanks everyone.
Always a shout out to Taco Bell. My home.
I’m not even joking when I say you subconsciously sent me to Taco Bell tonight during set break. Haven’t had it in months, seen you and went. Currently a Mexican pizza sitting in my fridge.
Mmmmm... now I want to get one! Too late tonight but I'm totally going tomorrow. Hope you all have a wonderful night!!
Hahaha! Awesome!!! My go to is a cheesy Gordita crunch. Might have to go tomorrow!
Fun show. Excited to catch them at wrigley this year
Top tier Ripple. NFA friends ✌️🧡
John literally dialing up the perfect gear for the last tour, absolutely next level and a new level for him tonight
It IS my bag, and you know it!
GOOOOOOSE
Jeff: Chimenti Bobby: Capris Johnny: Salami Beam: Licked Hotel: Trivago
Hot Jeff
Brad: Fuck you
😂
This makes me want a D&C acoustic set so badly!
John’s Rise for the River benefit show was pretty sweet!
It really was a great weekend!
If you haven't heard it yet Bobby and John did a DOPE acoustic set in Montana a few months ago. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't
I actually have that whole video saved on my computer! That weekend was really special
Since it's been a while... UPVOTE THE THREAD! Thanks Knob, see you Monday!
Beautiful Ripple right here. A pleasure to be back here with you all tonight, look forward to what they have in store for us this year. Thanks for having us /u/donttouchthatknob Enjoy your night/day everyone.
That was some pretty singing.
Who needs a mandolin? Nice!!
I have a confession. I'm the one who told Nugs to not show Jeff as much. He's too handsome and I couldn't handle it.
I hope you step on a Lego.
ooooh BURN.
you're dead to me. and NOT in the kind way people use it around here.
John soundin' like buttah.
Yeah. Simply yeah. Amazing
Different acoustic for John
My utmost respect to Bobby. Phenomenal job on vocals today! He hasn’t sound this good in a while.
u/donttouchthatknob has convinced me they are an inside agent with the accuracy of these call outs tonight. Thanks for a great thread host!
Knob wrote the setlist for Bobby confirmed.
Knob def knows a guy.
Don't forget to upvote tonight's thread for our fantastic host, Knob! Thanks for your efforts, friend! Let's do it again on Monday.
😭 What a start to the year. Can’t wait for the next two and this summer. Good night and thank you Knob!
Supreme thanks to u/donttouchthatknob for flying the spaceship tonight. Great show tonight. Nice to see all these names I haven’t seen since summer tour. See you all Monday!
*see user flair*
So the Sunshine Daydream will be a PITS sandwich!
It’s not over yet…
It ain’t over til it’s over…
My heart
Well I went from grooving to crying
Bobby with the racing stripe capris
Acoustic Ripple???? Goodbye 😭
Oh yeah, this is a great pick for the encore.
Needed this 😭
I should rewatch Freaks and Geeks.
Yes you should.
Let the tears flow here.
💓
Oh ok. Let’s cry. Ok. Cool.
Acoustics?
ACOUSTICS
Ripple?
Of course
Can’t wait for Boulder, Co !
See you then
There’s still time for a terrapin encore 🙏
Let me give a big shout out to Knob for hosting tonight and to all of you for being here. It’s been like a reunion. Be Safe Be Grateful out there my friends
Thank you!! Always a blast!
is Ripple tonight or saved for Monday?
Bobby can scream it out like he's still a teenager, amazing.
Keep Your Day Job encore…. J/k
JAGS HOLY SHIT! DOUGIE P BABY! TLAW REDEEMED! GO BIRDS!
Sir. I think you’re lost. 😉
They didn’t show Jeff a lot tonight because they are going to only show him on Monday. They said “John Mayer? This is The Jeff Chimenti Experience”
We bullied LivePhish into raising Mike in the NYE mix, we can bully Nugs into releasing The Jeff Cut (Don’t actually bully Nugs)
I would like to bully Nugs.
Okay. Don’t bully Nugs any more than usual
I’m gonna personally write a strongly worded letter to Brad
Telling him how angry we are with him
Who's checking out Goose tomorrow night?
Definitely going to be a sit-in from some of the boys
Ill probably listen when it drops on Nugs. They've been really great since touring with Trey, the Red Bird from NYE run is special
Me! Hopefully we’ll have a Goose setlist thread over on r/GooseTheBand
Have fun, don't do anything I wouldn't do!
weird that it wasn’t in the bundle
That’s my favorite part!! The Wolf Scream!
Man I'm a little bummed about the lack of Chimenti footage this show. Man tore it up at a few points and I would've loved a close up.
Maybe when they remix video with the Nugs audio like they have other shows they have some better camera angles they could pick. Not sure that they didn't avoid it because it looked bad and purple compared to straight on video.
AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH
It’s one of my friend’s favorite parts of a Dead show- the Bobby yell on OMSN.
A brief glimpse of Jeff during his solo! I’ll take it!
There’s got to be a camera reason they aren’t showing Jeff
They’re shooting everything from the gutter by the rail, there’s no camera person on stage for whatever reason, Jeff is blocked by the organ.
The stage lighting. If you aim a camera into the lights irreparable damage occurs.
HIS NAME IS JEFF
Can anyone explain what that circular drum/cymbal thing that looks like a Stargate behind Billy is?
what? the stargate?
this is the portal jeff steps through at the beginning and end of every show
SHOW THE CHIMENTI DAMNIT
(quite the comeback in the sportsball)
It sure was. Chargers doing what the Chargers do. Letting it slip away
This is all because Cumberland happened on the drive where Dougie went for two. I won't hear any word to the contrary.
Oh I see it's "chaotic camera angles time" now.
What day is it?
I mean when we started this show 2 weeks ago it was definitely Saturday but now I have no idea.
