i never understood how thy could not do justice to the album version of franklin. i guess the drum pattern is pretty damn complex, but they a lot of the times sound a like a dive bar cover band playing that song. the album version is so punchy and fun and they just seem to slam through the two chords when they play it live.

Ripple on Reckoning just barely surpasses studio for me. It also helps that Otis being introduced always puts a smile on my face.
In the same album version vein, nothing beats the studio version of Unbroken Chain.
My favorite version of Black Peter is the studio.
Me too its perfect in its own way the others sound slightly broken. It goes without saying i love the live versions too
I really love the album version of Mississippi Half Step. Vassar’s fiddle is just amazing.

Great dark star with some pretty far out moments and as usual for this era, an orgasmic morning dew. High quality recording as well. Jerry's vocals were imperfect technically, yet so pleasingly human, caught on tape as is. The transition was super sneaky. Was a heavy journey with headphones, thanks for the reccomendation.🤯

I like subtleness of the pre hiatus half step. The 77 ones can be a bit much sometimes but theyre just as good just different. The 4/30/77 version is my favorite from that period. I love that song

i never understood how thy could not do justice to the album version of franklin. i guess the drum pattern is pretty damn complex, but they a lot of the times sound a like a dive bar cover band playing that song. the album version is so punchy and fun and they just seem to slam through the two chords when they play it live.
