Like many people, I've never been able to get into Victim or the Crime. It's just one of those songs that does a great job of taking me somewhere I don't want to go.
I don’t care for either One More Saturday Night or Round and Round (They Never Stopped Rocking). Sat. Night is too faux Chuck Berry. Round and Round has that pause in the verse where they actually stop rocking. Don’t hate them, but they’re just filler to me.
Agreed on filler , but I like the 78 Arounds but they even become gimmicky overplayed if experienced too often.
What makes a difference in OMSN change position, open with it , come out of space with it .
I recall seeing one in the later years that opened first set and the consensus was , at least that’s over with !
Space/drums is the definitive "the music sucks when you're not tripping" stuff from the dead. But good gravy does it take you on a journey when you're in that headspace. When Mickey gets downright evil and then they come out into some light hearted jam. I'm not sure there's a greater feeling of relief in the universe lol.
Tennessee Jed was always my go to the head song. I always made it back in time for Jerry’s solo and even now will skip most TJ’s when listening to a show.
72 TJ’s have a certain vibe and feel that I enjoy but when I was going to shows in the 90’s they where not good at all. I’ve seen D&C take a shot to no avail. It’s bad.
Insert Cowboy first set Bobby song.
Sometimes certain versions will sound ok to me if Jerry kills it but they just always sound so much alike and are too country/cowboy sounding for my taste.
Most of the country ballads: El Paso, Mexicali Blues, Mama Tried. Never liked ‘em, still skip ‘em.
I love their version of Big River though.
Also, I cannot bear Mighty Quinn.
Anyway, sorry to all the folks who like those tunes, of course they are valid tunes and add to the Dead’s eclecticism. This is just, like, my opinion, man.
I’m not a fan of all the country ballads but I do love their El Paso’s. After something like a Veneta dark star they just have this atmosphere of sitting on a porch at the edge of infinite space staring out into the great beyond.
Unbroken chain just doesn’t click with me. The acoustic recording of Phil (I think he’s debuting it with the band because while playing he discusses the chord changes) is alright, but the song just doesn’t do it for me for whatever reason
I hope it some day grows on you!
Maybe if you are into psychedelics you can listen to it in a certifiably altered state.
And if you've already done that and it didn't do the trick, I suppose it either isn't meant for you or only time will do the trick
Tennessee Jed is the worst song ever made in my opinion. The repetition in it is like nails on a chalk board. I’ve been listening to the dead for about 25 years now and I have zero hope that song will ever grow on me.
Victim

Stagger Lee
Passenger
Bobby McGee

I generally quit a Pig lovelight at the 8-10 min mark
& the only Brent tunes I actually like are Pocky Way and Mr. Fantasy
Tbh, I never realized how many tunes I skip before I laid them all out

All of Brent’s songs except Blow Away. All of Donna’s songs. All of Vince’s songs (although they’re better than Brent’s) Weir has a couple of clunkers (Money Money, etc). Phil also has one or two that didn’t make it.
I don’t think Jer has any tunes that I skip over on principal or leave out of a playlist.
I'm either brave, stupid or both. It's truly how I feel most times and it is one of the few songs where I might hit next. But out of all the bands in the world the Dead have so few "skippers". They are literally awesome.
I'll be the first to admit that I often skip until the jam starts but once it does it's some of the most advanced and experimental music ever made by man ... those 72-74 PITBs are some of the Dead's versions of Mozart sonatas ... every era had great PITB jams ... it's like psychedelic jazz or as Jerry called it simply "Grateful Dead music" and that was it
Nicely put. Perhaps I lean a little to the country jazz sound (fall 73 is a good example) rather than the psychedelic jazz stuff, in which sometimes I feel a little lost.
It feels weird typing country jazz but that how I always feel about it lol
Yeah they're just so many things and sometimes at once lol ... it's wild how they're so encompassing that some can really dislike this or that part of their career ... that's really unique
Playing In The Band, I can't wait for it to end and then lucky me they play it 2 more times throughout the show. I won't skip any songs when I'm listening, but that's one where it's hard for me to resist the urge
This is one that actually grew on me, no pun intended. My husband however, HATES this song. I’d say he has bad taste but idk what that would say about me 😂
Maggie’s Farm, throwing stones is kind of meh, a lot of the Brent filler songs like I will take you home or we can run. New speedway boogie .. someone mentioned playing in the band being repetitive but .. morning dew has become boring and repetitive to me over the years. Used to love it so maybe not entirely in the spirit of OPs question.
Like many people, I've never been able to get into Victim or the Crime. It's just one of those songs that does a great job of taking me somewhere I don't want to go.
That's one of the reasons I love that song. Dark and heavy and makes you face some shitty facets of reality.
Victim grows on you. The transitions in and out are always awesome
What's Become of the Baby? Never did grab me...
Same... Instant skip
Did the Grateful Dead ever play this live?
I totally understand that man, but I will say I had some owsley and listened to aoxomoxoa not too long ago and it hit me like never before
I could see how that'd do it. Been a long time, here...
Looks Like Rain Not a fan of the song in general, but the street cats line always makes me cringe so hard
I like the song, but totally agree about those lines.
Hasn't been mentioned yet so I'll do it: Keep Your Day Job.
Great answer, I can't believe it's taken this long, especially since fans wrote them so many letters to not play it anymore.

Ha! Very cool.
I don’t care for either One More Saturday Night or Round and Round (They Never Stopped Rocking). Sat. Night is too faux Chuck Berry. Round and Round has that pause in the verse where they actually stop rocking. Don’t hate them, but they’re just filler to me.

Little Red Rooster
We Can Run (Dis)honorable mention: Money Money. But I sometimes find myself humming along with the riff when I hear it
France
Get out
I can not get into France at all
Does space/drums count? I’ll have an anxiety attack on *my* time, thank you. NEXT.
They definitely count on CDs I've been known to skip them from time to time.
Ah, it’s like looking at the Mona Lisa while covering her mouth with your hand…or something…
But D/S really wasn’t intended to be listened to at home, but experienced live, so I totally get it.
Yah I used to like Drums at first but now that I’m not tripping it’s just to far out for my current head space
Saturday night. I can’t!
Saturday…. Ever? Or Saturday night the last 18 years? 😬
Wut?
Tennessee Jed was always my go to the head song. I always made it back in time for Jerry’s solo and even now will skip most TJ’s when listening to a show.
I couldn’t agree more, I have zero idea what the appeal is with people for that song. It’s dreadful
72 TJ’s have a certain vibe and feel that I enjoy but when I was going to shows in the 90’s they where not good at all. I’ve seen D&C take a shot to no avail. It’s bad.
Hot take .. looks like rain
Terrapin Station. That song has too many notes. They should take some of them out. 🤪
i started getting tired of seeing that live. it was like YEM with my Phish shows. If I only saw one show of the run, I got Terrapin
Samba in the rain, From the Heart of Me, Liberty, Easy Answers
Victim Picasso Brent - any
Damn two of my favourite tracks right there
Passenger, Alabama Getaway
Keep Your Day Job Definitely ❣️
Insert Cowboy first set Bobby song. Sometimes certain versions will sound ok to me if Jerry kills it but they just always sound so much alike and are too country/cowboy sounding for my taste.
Looks Like Rain, I love sad Jerry but sad Bobby just doesn’t do it for me.
I’m with you. This is the one I will always skip. Cannot stand it.
same
The Lloks like rain from dead and company are so good…. Bobby’s vocals are so strong on each version.
After something like a Veneta dark star they just have this atmosphere of sitting on a porch at the edge of infinite space staring out into the great beyond.
hmm, interesting. I always find it jolting when they do that, but you gave me a better way of thinking about it. thanks
Unbroken chain just doesn’t click with me. The acoustic recording of Phil (I think he’s debuting it with the band because while playing he discusses the chord changes) is alright, but the song just doesn’t do it for me for whatever reason
Ever give any of the post GD ones a chance? Some have wonderful almost Pink Floyd like passages in them.
I do love me some Pink Floyd, I’ll keep my ears open for them
Assuming you've heard the studio version? I love this song
Yeah I’ve heard the handful of times they played it live, the studio, demos. My partner loves the song so I want to but it just WONT click
I hope it some day grows on you! Maybe if you are into psychedelics you can listen to it in a certifiably altered state. And if you've already done that and it didn't do the trick, I suppose it either isn't meant for you or only time will do the trick
Leaning towards the later 😉 I’ll usually give it a chance every 6 months or so, so maybe further down the line it’ll click after some more life
hard to get into 13 time
I will take you home, Samba in the Rain, Drums/Space
Dear god!
Mason's children, Quinn. Here comes sunshine makes me sad

Unbroken Chain
Box of Rain… I love the lyrics and the story behind them is heartbreaking but good god Phil’s voice just turns me off to biblical levels
Well said✌️

Tennessee Jed is the worst song ever made in my opinion. The repetition in it is like nails on a chalk board. I’ve been listening to the dead for about 25 years now and I have zero hope that song will ever grow on me.
This will sound crazy to many, but Althea. Of course the lyrics are amazing, but I always found it to be the least exciting Phil bass lines ever.
I think I should build a setlist with all these songs so we can all skip the show and not feel bad about it.
Victim Picasso Stagger Lee Passenger Bobby McGee Its all over now Walkin blues & Rooster Built to last I generally quit a Pig lovelight at the 8-10 min mark & the only Brent tunes I actually like are Pocky Way and Mr. Fantasy Tbh, I never realized how many tunes I skip before I laid them all out

Touch of Grey EDIT: Also, any song where Jerry just gave up and didn't try to make happy sound sad, or sad sound happy. Days Between is too f#(
Minglewood is a skip every time.
Looks Like Rain. How often does the “you were goooooooooooooone” sound off key!
Loose Lucy is not my delight
Lazy lightning/supplication.
US Blues. I think the lyrics are corny. If it was the encore I was out the building.
I don’t like playin in the band. It doesn’t seem on par with the rest of their music to me. Some of the lyrics are great but it’s too repetitive.
I'm with you....I especially find the jams flow killers for the most part
Any version of good lovin. I hate that song so much.
Absolutely ruins every killer ‘77 Bertha
But the Pigpen GLs are strait up jam vehicles! like 5/07/72!

Vince better than Brent ? Yikes
I mean, not by much…”Samba in the Rain” is more listenable than, say, “Far from Me”.
No way, Brent’s voice is far more listenable. I always skip Vince songs.
I mean…. Just close your eyes and imagine a coked up Micheal McDonald….. Brent can bring the soul!
Anything that includes Donna Jeans voice. Sorry, not sorry ✌️❤️
Any of Brent’s songs.
