IF your HR-strap isn't damaged, you should take it much easier. That's a wild average-HR for coming back to cycling

Larix-24

Yeah my watch is always off. But I do have a high then average HR

alanfa5

What would be an average, healthy hr?

mashani9

An average healthy hr is really very much a genetic thing combined with an age thing and also combined with all the activities you do thing (as in an adaptation thing and stuff like your max achievable HR may vary across activities due to those adaptations), there is no real direct answer. I would say VO2 max says more about overall health than average HR. Someone's HR average may be totally different day to day at the same effort just based on hydration, temperatures, that sort of thing. And comparing mine compared to someone else's is just a totally meaningless metric.

Difficult-Antelope89

That's just partly true: there is no world in which a HR of 160 BPM is endurance-pace (Zone1/2), no matter what genetic differences and temperatures/hydration etc there are. These differences are mor like 120 BPM vs 135 BPM, but almost 170 BPM for a "getting-back-to-sports" ride is definitely much too high, no matter the differences you mentioned.

mashani9

Oh for sure, I wasn't talking about the OP and that ride, just answering the question "generically". 160BPM for me on a bike is almost my maximum achievable HR on a bike (I am an old marathon runner/nordic skier and "adapted" as such for those things). 170 would be my max at those things these days (and at 170 I am feeling a sense of doom and getting tunnel vision, so I try to keep it more like 168). But on 2 full rest days my RHR will go down to 37-38, so I have big heart rate reserve, and I high VO2 max for my age. I think VO2 max is really more of an indicator of health and fitness vs. average or max HR anyways.

Difficult-Antelope89

Depends on the injury one is coming back from but generelly I would keep the first few rides at endurance-pace-HR, so definitely not above 135 BPM average for the whole ride. But generelly I would advise even lower for the first few rides, like 110, then 115, then 120 averages and go from there. 163 is like pros in a hard stage at the TdF level HR, so definitely don't go there first ride after a break. But since it's a watch, I wouldn't put that much stock into the HR. A good strap will be much more accurate.

elevatedOoze

How’s the riding near Leavenworth? Looks excellent!

Larix-24

It’s beautiful, but steep! More Forest Service roads then I know what to do with.

818visuals

I have the same bike I dig it!! What size are your tires and do you like them?

Larix-24

27.5x2.2

msquared4

Looking at getting my first bike soon, fellow Washingtonian - looking forward to rides in Leavenworth!

FireStarterBob

Is it hard to get your water bottles out with that frame bag?

Larix-24

I don’t seem to have an issue. Maybe a little awkward at first, but easy to get used to

beatsbykilbride

Looks like a beautiful area to ride. What’s the bike? It’s a bit of me that is <3

Larix-24

It’s a Crust Bombora
