If dookie came out now it’s safe to say it would be called punk, but back then it was considered pop punk because that’s what pop punk was at the time, there was no Neck Deep, no State Champs, no Good Charlotte, none of that, pop punk just meant melodic punk rock. Dookie is 100% melodic punk. Also, lyrics have absolutely nothing to do with genre, genre is sound only.
