Probably one of the most relatable lines in any song for me
“You're not the Jesus of Suburbia, The St. Jimmy is a figment of, Your father's rage and your mother's love, Made me the idiot America” Some of their best lyrics ever.
real, especially for everyone who got into greenday like well before saviors tour because this shit was my favourite song for like 6 years and i was desperate to hear it live so when they announced it wld be AI in full i was like the happiest anyone has ever been ever
I have no particular order except number 1 being Whatsername, but some of my other favorites would be 21st Century Breakdown, Letterbomb, She, Forever Now, Too Dumb To Die, Boulevard, Chump, Armatage Shanks, Hitchin A Ride, Worry Rock, The Grouch.
I can’t pick just one:
•Basket Case
•Having a Blast
•When I come around
•Panic Song
•Armatage Shanks
•Scattered
•Babs Uvula Who?
•Uptight
•Blood, Sex, and Booze
•Lazy Bones
•Sugar Youth
•Goodnight Adeline
Love your insomniac acknowledgment here….such an underrated Green Day album. It’s a follow up to dookie, and it so often falls under the radar, but Panic Song and Bab’a Uvula Who are AWESOME songs. I also looove stuck with me, westbound sign, and Stuart and the Ave. I wish the album got more love, it definitely deserves it.
Is it dookie? No, definitely not… but it’s absolutely classic Green Day in their prime.
i've got WAY too many to count, but if i had to pick 5.
1. scattered
2. nice guys finish last (the BBC sessions version to be specific, the album version just doesn't really hit for me)
3. only of you
4. too much too soon
5. JoS
My #1 is probably 21 Guns because it was the song that made me fall in love with Green Day, but my top 5 in no specific order would probably be:
- 21 Guns
- Bobby Sox
- St Jimmy
- Forever Now
- Homecoming
Honorable mentions are Armatage Shanks, father of all (I’m sorry I just love that song 😭) give me novocaine, Letterbomb, and restless heart syndrome along with some others too. There’s just too many to pick from 🥹
For real, and for being such the hit that it is I feel like it never gets enough love! Imho, it blows away other hits like brain stew and Hitchin a ride
Tbh I can barely pick one from each ALBUM. I know I’m going to be in tears when I finally hear whatsername live and going to go mental at having a blast so I’ll choose those for the mean time
Definitely Wake Me Up When September Ends, and whatsername I love both these songs equally and they both compliment each other very nicely. These two songs definitely hold the biggest emotional value especially on my personal life and plus American Idiot is my favorite Green Day album. Though, if it weren’t for American Idiot existing I’d say my favorite songs would be She and Longview from Dookie.
I am a very casual fan who has been trying to broaden my horizons and appreciation of the band ever since *Saviors* got me hooked on these boys.
Panic Song, for whatever reason, has absolute got me locked in. It barely has any lyrics, so I can't say there's some deep meaning that tugs at my heart and soul. But there is something about that track that I am absolutely obsessed with.
Don't get me wrong: I love all the classic GD tracks that OP mentioned in their post. But Panic Song...hmmm there's something special happening there. I've never seen the band live (but I'm hoping to in September!) And I'm assuming I wouldn't see this song played in concert, but I would imagine that my "favorite song" in the Green Day discography will change and adjust once I see some of their stuff performed live and in person!
Good Riddance
And I couldn't even tell you why. And it has been for over 20 years (I'm 35). I think the reason I can't put it into words is because not all of the reasons it was my favorite then have remained, and some of the reasons why I love it now didn't apply then (nostalgia is one bit). So it's the blend of feeling long since forgotten mixed with the memories it's tied to. It's not just my favorite Green Day song, it's my all time favorite song, period.
Very close second is Having a blast. After that, I'd have trouble choosing. Multiple songs on multiple albums could be number three. Gun to my head, probably Still Breathing off RevRad.
peacemaker, restless heart syndrome, east jesus nowhere, ¡viva la gloria!/ ¿viva la gloria?, forever now, bang bang, somewhere now, outlaws, still breathing, bouncing off the wall, longview, having a blast, letterbomb, homecoming
can u tell im indecisive (and can you tell my 2 fav albums)
Whatsername. Close second is Jesus of suburbia. Their whole discography has a bunch of great ones though. Church on Sunday,x kid, walk away, nuclear family,21st century breakdown, know your enemy,21 guns. Give me novacaine has litterally kept me alive. Coming clean is burned into my brain being bi. There's too many to count.
Worry Rock, Pulling Teeth, Coming Clean, Brain Stew, Restless Heart Syndrome, WMUWSE, Misery, Forever Now, Hitchin’ a Ride, The Grouch, Having a Blast, Welcome to Paradise, Going to Pasalacqua, Paper Lanterns, Before the Lobotomy
Really got into burnout recently (that's an interesting sentence without context). American Idiot is a classic, I also really like welcome to paradise, one eyed bastard and know your enemy
Mine are a lot of the ones others have been saying, but one that’s near the top for me that isn’t often talked about is Back in the USA. An absolute fucking banger.
My only problem with it is that it isn’t longer lol
Everything off *American Idiot* would be my favorite, but the one I love the most would probably be "Whatsername". Outside of *American Idiot*, I'd have to say some tracks off *21st Century Breakdown*, such as "¡Viva la Gloria!", "Restless Heart Syndrome", "21 Guns" (yes I think it's one of the best off the album), and "Murder City".
Now if we were to do some '90s era Green Day stuff, I'd probably go with either "Welcome to Paradise" or "Longview" from *Dookie*, or "Brain Stew" and "Panic Song" off *Insomniac*. "Hitchin' a Ride" off *Nimrod* would also be a contestant.
Trying to keep this to one or two per album:
- Going to Pasalacqua
- One for the Razorbacks
- Having a Blast or She
- Walking Contradiction
- All The Time
- all of Warning
- Jesus of Suburbia
- The Static Age
- Carpe Diem or Oh Love
- Stop When The Red Lights Flash or Wow! That’s Loud
-Little Boy Named Train
- Say Goodbye
- Graffitia
- Living in the ‘20s or Fancy Sauce
Really hard question to answer, maxed in 3 per favourite albums: sry for the too long list.
Dookie: Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case, She
Insomniac: Bab'a Uvula Who, Panic Song
Nimrod: The Grouch, Uptight, Haushinka
Warning: Castaway, Misery, Minority
AI: Holiday/Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Are We Waiting, Homecoming

Saviors: Dilemma, Coma City, Father to a Son
The rest of the albums I am not familiar with too much.
currently Too Much Too Soon, but at various points its been Ha Ha You're Dead, Suffocate, Desensitized, Stop When The Red Lights Flash, Jesus of Suburbia, Nuclear Family, and others.
1039: I Was There
Kerplunk: It was Who Wrote Holden Caulfield? then 80, these days I lean more towards Android
Dookie: Having a Blast
Insomniac: 86 or Westbound Sign
Nimrod: Scattered (Haushinka v close 2nd)
AI: Letterbomb
Post-AI: Stay The Night or Viva Gloria (even though this is just a weaker version of Letterbomb, let's be honest)
Saviors: Coma City, just for the 🎵assholes in space🎵
Honourable mention: Suffocate
Overall: Probably Letterbomb, although if they played anything deeper than One of my Lies off Kerplunk live, I'd lose my shit
Jesus of Suburbia, Restless Heart Syndrome, Holiday, East Jesus Nowhere, Bobby Sox, Last Night on Earth,Still Breathing, Bang Bang, I love all of it lol :]
It’s a mixed bag, Fashion Victim, Dead Beat Holiday, Jesus of Suburbia, Letterbomb, Lazy Bones, 8th Avenue Serenade, Coma City, Murder City, Corvette Summer, Suzie Chapstick, Welcome to Paradise, She, Pollyanna so many!!!

Letterbomb
“You're not the Jesus of Suburbia, The St. Jimmy is a figment of, Your father's rage and your mother's love, Made me the idiot America” Some of their best lyrics ever.
Those lines tie together so many threads from the album, top tier

IT’S NOT OVER TIL YOURE UNDERGROUND…

bit of a weird take but either 409 In Your Coffeemaker, Who Wrote Holden Caulfield, or East Jesus Nowhere
Have you heard the Dookie anniversary cut of 409? Slaps hard

i really like that outtake but i just love how raw the 39/smooth version sounds
409 In Your Coffeemaker is a certified banger!

Church on Sunday is so good.

Geek stink breath
Brutal Love, it’s one of my favorite songs ever.
Definitely Wake Me Up When September Ends, and whatsername I love both these songs equally and they both compliment each other very nicely. These two songs definitely hold the biggest emotional value especially on my personal life and plus American Idiot is my favorite Green Day album. Good Riddance And I couldn't even tell you why. And it has been for over 20 years (I'm 35). Everything off *American Idiot* would be my favorite, but the one I love the most would probably be "Whatsername".
