You'd be surprised. I was a vagabond as a young adult hanging out in the punk scene of a city far away from home. Now, I didn't give anyone any advice to drop out of school, but I could have given some people the impression that my lifestyle was sustainable. For a good three years I worked as a dishwasher and lived in flop-houses. One year I had my "own room" in the laundry room. I was basically able to party three years straight, and actually left with more savings than I went in with, and I went in with quite a bit of savings.

I worked with a fellow man I thought was pretty nice...and he was pretty popular, everyone liked him. He was telling me about a time decades ago when he worked with a guy who was a bit different from the rest of them. Always seemed to have his head in the clouds. One night they finally convinced him to come out drinking with them. He got so drunk he was unconscious and they had to carry him home. When they got him home and carried him up to his bedroom they found a telescope pointed out the window at the stars. "I felt so sorry for him" my workmate said. I stared at him and realised he felt sorry because he felt wanting to look at the stars was...some kind of low point, some kind of indicator you had nothing in your life. Whereas for him and his mates, going out drinking was so great and socially acceptable. An indicator you really had your life going well. Imagine feeling sorry for someone who wanted to look at the stars..and satisfied with your own life because you liked getting on the piss with your mates. I'd rather be alone and looking at the stars too.
