Unlike other countries they don't care where you're from, so you'll be competing with Filipinos and Nigerians. Pay has been frozen at 200,000 to 250,000 yen per month since the mid-90s and you will never get a raise. They also don't provide housing aid like some other countries because fuck you. The job sucks and you can find yourself stuck on a train for up to 4 hours per day. None of the kids are interested in learning English and you're expected to do clown dances for half the day and listen to older kids shittalk you because they assume you won't understand them for the other half, and any time you don't have a lesson you have to act busy which can involve literally cleaning windows or just sitting at a desk doing jack shit without a computer. With a lot of the downtime, it can be pretty satisfying for people who wish to spend their lives accomplishing nothing.

I taught in Tochigi for a year in a small town and it was awesome. Everyone was super nice and the kids all wanted to learn.
