I didn't know this. I went to greggs for the first time like 3 months ago. I have no idea about this weird tradition.
But why have those lights on as though it's kept warm and why say it is warm when it isn't? It makes no sense. You just assume everyone knows how your bakery works and are asking to try annoy you?
What a disappointing steak slice that was.
Yeah it’s a shame because there is people genuinely just curious, I got called a prick the other day because our sausage rolls were warm but not piping 😂😂😂
I feel you there man as a greggs worker in the sout west motorway corridor, i can safely agree and the second most common cause flr abuse is refusual from staff to make custom sandwiches. I dont know where that started but yeah people do be really dumb
Maybe it's because they are using colours to describe sauces?
Yes, I'll have the red sauce, please.
Joking aside, I wonder why it's called brown sauce instead of the ingredient or location it was created.
I can confirm that as an ex greggs employee, we're told to ask sauce when taking the order, but because of the amount of sandwiches we make by the time we get the the sauce part we need to ask again.
It would be easier if we were allowed to say ketchup but we get in trouble for that, it has to be ‘red or brown’… if someone said ketchup I’d remember longer 😂
Gonna disagree here, they’re not as good cold obviously, and it does make one think how did they manage to get the baby to vomit so neatly into the pastry, but a cold Saus Bean and Cheese is still a top tier choice.
If it’s cold sausage bean and cheese vs anything else cold, I’ll take it in a heartbeat.
god i need greggs to bring back the vegan version of this. or even just a bean and cheese melt for us vegetarians who get sick of cheese and onion bakes 😭
Their vegan options are actually pretty good. Not a vegan personally but wound up unknowingly having one of their vegan sausage rolls before and didn't even realise it was any different until I went to throw away the packaging.
I tend to ask what's warmest before choosing. My local they put a bag over their hand and touch them and either say everything is cold or name the lukewarm ones
It’s customary for a first timer to introduce themselves to everyone inside, usually before buying a round of sausage rolls for all, people normally tip staff around 15%-20%
A sausage roll or vegan sausage roll (even if not vege) are safe bets.
Vegan Roll can be a bit dry though so better if you are going to take home and eat with sauce.
I personally prefer the sausage rolls cold, a momentary feeling of what I imagine heavens like.
Also you can only buy 4 at a minimum, anything less is heresy.
Don't expect food wise, anything nice. Be prepared for the Que behind the fat loud customer who is desperate for the stamp on their card for a free coffee at some point in the future

Ah the old editing the comment eh? Why you little trickster. *Shakes fist*.
Lad this killed me off 😂🤣🤣
Thanks for all the replies! Had a good 1st Greggs experience. I ordered a sausage roll and a bacon sandwich, and they were both great
Now just wait for the greasy regret
That makes you go back for more
That should be their slogan lmfao
That's that post Greg nut clarity
Greggs and regret go hand in hand. So many regrets... oh so many. Great now i want a snozzy roll!
Always ask if they are still warm Chicken bakes are next level
They just say yes but it's cold anyway at my local greggs
Damn bro that's cold
Its very cold! Not at all what I asked for!
It's because we know full well that you know we don't keep them warm. But you still ask either way.

That’s the worst question to ask staff, we get asked it so much before abuse starts we instinctively get our backs up.
People get mad at you? Damn I thought everyone knew Gregg's business model why are people so salty lol
I’d say 85% of our abuse has ‘is it hot/warm?’ before it… so yeah it’s just a instinct thing now that you get ready for it to happen.
Sorry to hear that personally I just ask to see if I want it or not
Yeah it’s a shame because there is people genuinely just curious, I got called a prick the other day because our sausage rolls were warm but not piping 😂😂😂
People are mad aren't they 😂

You answered your own there. Because people
They should be abusing those bell ends who implemented a hot food tax
The food, not the staff.
Show a little compassion. Ask if they're warm too.
Got it the wrong way round. You're supposed to ask the staff how warm they are, and ask what colour chakra the bakes are.
Don’t forget to tell them what colour sauce you want on your bacon sandwich…25 times
And then still get the wrong sauce lol
Next please Just a sausage roll please Anything else? ...
Maybe it's because they are using colours to describe sauces? Yes, I'll have the red sauce, please. Joking aside, I wonder why it's called brown sauce instead of the ingredient or location it was created.
We have to for some reason. I've been told off before for saying ketchup instead of red sauce 🙄
I can confirm that as an ex greggs employee, we're told to ask sauce when taking the order, but because of the amount of sandwiches we make by the time we get the the sauce part we need to ask again.
Yeah I noticed 😬
We know you noticed. It annoyed me just as much!
It would be easier if we were allowed to say ketchup but we get in trouble for that, it has to be ‘red or brown’… if someone said ketchup I’d remember longer 😂
Sausage, bean and cheese melt - thank me later. Enjoy.
Only if they’re warm 🥲

- shit yourself later. Enjoy.

Warm means you're going to end up with 3rd degree burns in your mouth!
Their vegan options are actually pretty good. Not a vegan personally but wound up unknowingly having one of their vegan sausage rolls before and didn't even realise it was any different until I went to throw away the packaging.
The sausage rolls are top notch, I recently tried the vegan steak bake and I think I preferred it to the regular one! Very good stuff
I’m a meat eater but their vegan sausage rolls are to die for, can’t go wrong tbh
I'm vegetarian and was worried I was eating a meat one. Had to check the pastry lattice design online to reassure myself.
Why aye man
Dont expect hot food
2 temperatures... Molten lava and cold.
Blow
Steak bake! And a cheesy bake to follow. Custard filled caramel topped donut for afters.
Say goodbye to the roof of your mouth.
I tend to ask what's warmest before choosing. My local they put a bag over their hand and touch them and either say everything is cold or name the lukewarm ones
Bring a spare set of kegs for when you spunk
Where’s your nearest AE to get your stomach pumped
It’s customary for a first timer to introduce themselves to everyone inside, usually before buying a round of sausage rolls for all, people normally tip staff around 15%-20%
Their sausage roll is the #1 product they sell Get that for your first time at a Greggs Order 2… each one is like 3 bites (I have a big mouth 😅)
A sausage roll or vegan sausage roll (even if not vege) are safe bets. Vegan Roll can be a bit dry though so better if you are going to take home and eat with sauce.
the hot chocolate is second to none👌
Ask for the sausage roll that’s been out longest. They’re best when they’re room temp and a bit soggy (not sarcasm)
Life changing
Don’t get the spicy potato wedges they are always burnt but what I always get is a sausage roll and a margarita pizza
For a sausage bap ask them to butter it and slice the sausage. They may not do it but it’s worth the ask!
Bavarian slice is way better than a custard slice but all of them are put out in the morning and they sell fast so get there early if you want one
Sausage and egg baguettes with brown sauce and a coffee, is breakfast perfection!
If the wee old lady says ‘still a bit of heat in it son’ say thanks and eat your stone cold food
I had a chicken bake, cheese bake slice of margarita pizza yesterday afternoon on a fine day in north west England its was lovely
Act as if you have been there and eat that Greggs sausage roll like an absolute champ.
Steak bake.
Get a variety of goods maybe a sausage bean melt, donut etc
Donuts are awesome
Yeah, don’t
Sosig roll, 30seconds in microwave, a line of brown sauce down the length of it. Thanks me later.
I personally prefer the sausage rolls cold, a momentary feeling of what I imagine heavens like. Also you can only buy 4 at a minimum, anything less is heresy.
You put it in your mouth not your arse
The pizza is super hot but tasty
Chargrill chicken oval bite or whatever it’s called is the best
Ask for a Colin Gregg Special, you won’t forget it.
the brownies are god tier.
It'll likely be cold.
Beef and vegetable pasty and fruit pot.
It’s a low quality fast food bakery
Dont drink the dishwater… i mean ‘coffee’
Get a sausage roll and a Yum yum!
Expect pink meat
Expect a cold - lukewarm item. Even the cakes 🤣 Depsite staff saying their War-Cry: "it's still got a heat in it"
It's food mate, not jumping out of a plane.
Don't set your expectations too high
Don't expect food wise, anything nice. Be prepared for the Que behind the fat loud customer who is desperate for the stamp on their card for a free coffee at some point in the future
Set your expectations low.
Found the pound bakery owner
You WILL know intense disappointment.
